Comment: On point Ms. Cannick - when I read lil rule's justification for us overlooking his use of the words I thought someone should slap him. You kinda did - now if he can read hopefully he will read this article. Also, those lyrics don't make a lot of sense and any female who has done him should never tell.

Comment: Well said, Ms. Cannick. But really, no one really gives a rat's azz what comes out of Ja Rule's mouth. Now if he 'fessed up and told us what goes IN his mouth, then he'll have my attention.

Comment: Jasmyne you could and should have wrote something on Hilary Clinton's comment on Jenna 6...but you gave this dumb mutherfvker just what he wanted...attention.

Comment: Remember Ja rule plays with women maybe men too that are hoes and bytches. This is part of his lifestyle. I believe and you know these people (hoes/bytches, whatever) exist. Now he can't blame Viacom for promoting gays because gays were doing their thing(gay festivals/parades, etc. ) long before MTV decided to add it into there shows. But Ja Rule forgets that gays have been part of the artistic, music, film scene since the beginning. His issue ie he is insecure around these type of people. I don't like to hang around drag queens and feminine men. To each there own but I do still have respect for drags, trans & fems but it's not my crowd. I don't like to hang around drunks and druggies cause they have no sense. We all have our comfort zone but I know I can walk away if I'm not feeling it. Also there is a freedom of speech, if it comes on the radio little Jerome is hearing it, then the parent should change the station. It's the parents responsiblilty not Ja Rule. Ja Rule is just twisted cause it's more of a cover to me than actually how he truly feels. ALRIGHT WHO'S THE NEXT CLOSET NEGRO RAPPER!!!! I tell him the same damn thang.

Comment: Oh because Ja hasn't had a hit recently he's not entitled to voice his opinion?? OH please.. I'm so tired of columnists and bloggers constantly "talking" about what's wrong with the black community.. Who's community?? My community if full of hardworking parents and respectful children, and most of the families are black... I don't see hip hop brainwashing kids into believing women are h-o's or b^t*h*s... I see women walking around half %*$ naked and acting like exactly what people perceive them to be, giving people a reason to think negatively..... I'm as black as they come and yet I've never felt inclusive when people speak on the "black community".. I think you're a bunch of self hating confused souls trying to make sure everybody else's life is as messed up as yours.. Stop hating yourself and handle your OWN damn business.. A community is made of several individuals, individual families.. until you, the individual, handle your business then this so called community will never be right..Hip Hop is sooooooo far down the list on issues in anybody's life.. I hate how you try to make hip hop the "black community's problem" when 90%^ is being sold to whites and other groups, yet they escape the ridicule and negativity that comes with hip hop..please... that's more evidence of the self hate YOU have if you feel like you own hip hop and it's negatives..

Comment: Great column. Ja is nuts. But, I have to admit his homophobia is so typical of many in our community, and not just young men. But, the woman-hating is shocking and hurtful. It affects how black women, including me, feel about black men, and, of course, it affects how black men feel about black women. The coursening of our culture is the result of junk like this from Ja.
