Comment: Its good to see Gingrich and Kemp speak out on this, and pretty quickly too. They should be rebuked by more top Republicans. And by conservative talk radio too, but that's not likely to happen. Bush'a people should call these frontrunners and tell them how much of a dumb move this is for them. Its a shame; no one party has all the good ideas. There are some Republicans who actually have good ideas on the economy, immigration, tax policy, education etc, but when party leaders perpetuate junk like this, many Americans (especially people of color) are just going to tune them out. I figured Billary Clinton was going to win it all anyway, but the Rethuglicans are just making it a little easier for her now. And Alan Keyes? Brotha, please. Just go home.

Comment: It's stuff like this that makes it difficult to votes as a Black Republican

Comment: Republicans have been doing this for YEARS. I recall in the late 80s when Wilder was running for Governor of Virginia, the Republican front-runner refused to attend a major Black sporting event in Richmond. The spokesperson for the Republican candidate was quoted as saying they didn't feel their time would be well spent at the event since the majority of AA's traditionally vote Democrat anyway and that our stance would unlikely change. The spokesperson was subsequently fired; Wilder won the election.

Comment: Pardon me for nitpicking, but ...I find this line interesting:"The only reason the so-called Republican frontrunners give for not appearing at the debate is that their schedules won't allow it.". huh? "so-called"? EUR, is this supposed to be a news article, or an opinion piece? The tone of this is clearly very opinionated, so it couldn't pass for an objective article. And if its an opinion/commentary article, then why not post the name of the writer, like you do with JCPhillips, Morris O'Kelly , etc. ? You'd think EUR would know by now that's how its done: don't inject your opinions out in "news" articles if that's what its really supposed to be. Just comes across as very unproffessional.

Comment: Doc...uhm...that would be a bit too much like right for EUR. Please don't expect much professionalism on EUR. Remember it 'is' an entertainment news site w/a bit of real talk. From the moment I heard about this story, there were some top repubs who spoke out against the decision. From Mehlman to Gingrich on. I think most black repubs have serious problem w/the decision. I'm personally glad that they won't be there. It would be a delight to see the empty podiums with water bottles stationed at them. If that doesn't send a message to people, I don't know what will. This debate needs to happen quickly cuz I don't want them to change their minds..lol

This debate needs to happen quickly cuz I don't want them to change their minds..> Now see that is what you do. You don't whine about their decision not to come you just be proactive about their decisions. Setting up podiums that will have empty spots there sends a resounding cry as to how the republicans feel about the votes of not just blacks but across the board. They would never recover from that. Dang Tavis, you had an opportunity to really make a statement here.

Comment: MUSBDHERBS... I guess you're right. We just have to accept EUR for what it is. Look how long people have been asking for a "real" message board now - years, and it still hasn't happened. It is what it is. Like I said before, this just makes it a little easier for Clinton/Obama. It wouldn't surprise me if they use video footage of the "empty podiums" in campaign commercials next year. (Of course, the podiums will have the Guiliani's/Romney's names on them too). That would be like sticking in the knife and twisting it. I for one, wouldnt be crying if Hillary/Obama won , even though I'd never vote for them. It might take a whole generation for a bunch of new Republicans to wash away the racial stench that now lingers in the Republican party. I actually thought Guiliani might be an effective president, and I believe he's very qualified; but when you choose to alienate folk, rather than build bridges, maybe you're just not ready to really lead this country.

Comment: Smokie...lol..That is what Tavis plans to do. I think that was his idea. Doc>it's gonna take much longer than a generation. W/the way politics is so poisonous now, many in both parties are teaching their kids how to act just like them. Ever seen these young dems/repubs? They aren't too far removed from their parents. I think all of the candidates are qualified to be president. I just don't think all would be most effective. Everything I've read about Guili before this only explains why he chose not to attend. Keep in mind, his policies are..well weren't ultra-conserv. He never seemed to be a friend of blacks but he's at a different place now. Much like Romney who admitted that he was pro-everything because his state was...not because he was pro-everything. That's the shyt I don't like. Don't change when you become president. Not surprisingly, Thompson is making no news. Yet, he was heralded as the next best thing since muscadines.

Comment: And the podiums should have their names on them so we can remember so and so did not show up!

Comment: it's not coincidence that pubs don't do debates in all venues . . . pubs may make noises about working a little harder to be inclusive but it's mostly noise . . . pubs are working on changing how electoral votes are assigned in presidential elections with California as a test case and they have deep pocket resources to put the initiative on the ballot . . . here's where dems, browns and blacks need to be concerned: assigning electoral votes from gerrymandered districts based on electronic, paperless voting . . . electronic, paperless voting is the holy grail for pubs because they have to resources to cheat to win without detection and they won't have to debate anybody at anytime because they will "win"

Name: HarrisThomas
Comment: the change that the pubs want is from the winner-take-all system for electoral votes from each state . . . somebody tell me why electoral votes are preferred over popular (direct) votes

Comment: LOL...Black Conservatives don't blame EUR for the top tier Republican's Cowardice and lame excuse...LOL...Look to your canidates and tell them the buck stops here!...HaHaConservatives must take personal responsibility for their leaders and not blame other's. On the real I love when Repub's show their true colors and admit it by their action's. We are not comfortable around People of Color.

Name: fanteeking
Comment: Now Alan Keyes, Condi Rice, Colon Powell, J C Watts see up close how racist, exclusive and elitist their beloved party is. The repubs feel that it would be a mortal offense if they appeared before people of color. I hope that sends a strong message to fute 'black' republicans that their party considers them less than human.
