Comment: I remember when Steve started the Hoodie awards in L. A. now he has gone big. That is a good thing, folks need to know their Mom and Pop business are appreciated. I will attend next year but will leave early to beat the traffic coming back from Vegas! :o)

Name: Bad_Kitty
Comment: I HATE the name, "Hoodie" Awards. Not every black person comes from the "hood." Couldn't they have picked a more universal name to personify blacks in business who excel (regardless of whether the business is in a black neighborhood or not) ? Also, that hat looks too damn big for Steve Harvey's head in that picture. LOL!

Name: NYCsoul
Comment: I love my people but dang, Steve got some big teefus! LOL!

Name: 5thSymphony
Comment: Hi Bad_Kitty; I thought the same thing until someone broke it down for me. "Hoodie" doesn't mean the HOOD that you are refering to. It is a 'cute-sy' way of say "neighborHOOD", which is why he honors LOCAL businesses and people. I guess he added the "-ie" onto HOOD to make it sound more like an award like the GrammY(ie) or the TonY(ie). Just my thoughts...

Comment: sounds great. i hope i remember to tune in.

Comment: ...Why... Oh Lord I ask...Why

Comment: Bad_Kitty, you took the words out of my mouth. What a HORRIBLE choice of names for awards like this! 5thSymphony, the breakdown in the meaning is appreciated, but really it doesn't matter. People continually underestimate the power of first impressions...and the first impression of a name like "Hoodie" is something ghetto, not something positive. The name was not well thought out at all.

Name: Gurlfrand
Comment: People are so hung up! If you live or own a business in the neighbor'HOOD, then that is who the awards represent - there are some businesses that are owned and run by blacks, whites, latinos, arabs, etc, that are in the 'HOOD - what is the problem?

Name: naturalsista
Comment: we all live in a neighborhood unless you are living in isolation. these awards have been around for at least 5 years and give props to local businesses, schools, chuches, etc. the winners proudly display their 'hoodie' awards and it's a way of advertisement for them. sometimes we get stuck on semantics rather than the sentiments behind an action.

Name: TGen
Comment: We'll have to agree to disagree. I'd much rather tell someone I won a "Community Leadersip" award than a damn "Hoodie." But um that's just me. Oh well...

Name: Bad_Kitty
Comment: TGen: I agree. 5thSymphony, thank you for breaking the meaning of the name down for me. Gurlfrand... first impressons mean A LOT. And to have the first impression of your award show come across as something other than what is considered steller, then, I think you missed your mark. Just my opinion.

Comment: The Hoodie's are wack and have always been wack. The awards are stupid. Best Fried Chicken, Best Cleaners, Best High School, Best Car Wash, Best Church and shyt like that. How are you going to have a "Best Church" award? LMMFAO! Terrible...Just terrible.

Name: Bad_Kitty
Comment: TesticAl: LOL! Are you serious?!! THOSE are the type of awards that are given out??? If so, they named it correctly... HOODie.

Name: Gurlfrand
Comment: LMBAO @ TA! That's what the awards were mean't when Steve and the crew invented it when they were still at the Beat five years ago. This ain't the dang grammys, people. It's a wacked awards show that gives attention to businesses that ordinarily would never receive any attention. Get over yourself. It is for businesses in urban areas, known as the 'Hood. It ain't gone get you to the Whitehouse, but, it might get you some additional customers picking up some extra chicken or fish dinners.

Name: Zumbagirl
Comment: I can't believe how negative black folks can be about truly positive things -- especially those who have never even attended the Hoodies. I have and I can tell you that the local business persons who are nominated are very proud of the recognition and are excited about being receiving the award by a celebrity presenter. Importantly, a nomination or win means real dollars to the nominees. I know of a nominee whose sales increased by 25% just by being nominated. What's wrong with recognizing legitimate and necessary businesses like cleaners, car washes, beauty/barber salons, restaurants, schools, etc.? Nobody else has offered this kind of recognition for such a variety of urban businesses. To the haters, I agree with Gurlfriend, get over yourselves!

Name: TesticAl
Comment: WACK! Answer this question for me, how can you have an award for best church? Type of shyt is that? You're telling us to get over ourselves, you get over yourself! This award show is stupid, as well as others. Allowing this bullshyt to even take place is stupid. And some you have the nerve to get mad at BET. GET OUTTA HERE! Fuckk Steve Harvey and the Hoodie's! Yes I'm MADD. LMFAO!
