Comment: I love listening to Ruby Dee speak. She is so eloquent and inspirational. I'm glad she's still around and getting work. I know she must miss Ossie terribly. Matter of fact, we all miss Ossie.

Comment: I'm torn about this movie. While I love and I mean love Denzel, Mrs. Ruby Dee, Russell, I am torn about seeing another black gangstar flick.

Comment: Ruby Dee is a brilliant treasure. She gives great insight into the complex relationship of the community with characters like Frank Lucas. She and Ossie were THE example of a loving, supportive and progressive partnership. I will be front and center when this movie opens on Friday.

Comment: I'm with you, ladybyrd. Denzel is an amazing actor, but I know that some of these young men are going to view the movie as further glorification of the "game."
I'm more interested in the historical aspects of the movie, what with the heroin trade coming to Harlem on the heels of the civil rights movement, then crack coming in the early 80's.
Frank Lucas is said to have considered himself a free man. He is anything but. He sold his soul and his people.
For what?

Comment: That movie isn't three hours long. It's TRASH though. I stated this a while ago. The acting is cool, but the movie is horrible. Shyt was funny when Ruby Dee Slapped Denzel.

Comment: I was talking to a lady today who saw it bootleg. She swears Denzel is the man. I'd like to see what they do in terms of cinematography, styling the actors, etc., but the more I think about it, I'm tired of seeing black men in these type of roles. And to have a lady of Ruby Dee's stature play the mother of a drug lord........ well, well, well.

Comment: gingerg > I agree. Now, the%*$!(@!( is sitting around considering himself "retired". My parents are law abiding citizens who put in hours to retire comfortably. Frank Lucas is retired..retired from what, ruining communities, leaving kids to fend for themselves or killing his people!

Comment: gingerg> I know... I'm think the samething. But you know the older you get the work stop coming. And regarding Ruby, it would be one of "our" films that would hire her for her talents. I wonder if Denzel put in a word. I heard he was good at doing that.

Comment: Much is made of Frank Lucas coming from down south and not having much education. I know plenty of people who did the same thing, but they didn't peddle poison to their own people to make a living.
