Comment: I think Julie Newman produced that show ans what a shame....however folks knew the deal before buying that ticket. I was oh so up for a Sly reunion until I saw himon the Grammy's. Overcoming deamons can be very difficult.

Comment: Ticket to see Sly in New York live? $100.00 per ticket....To stay at home and listen to Sly's CD's remastered? Priceless and free....HaHa

Name: fanteeking
Comment: Some things change, others stay the same. I clearly remember leaving Englewood, N J in about 1974 going to the Apollo Theatre in Harlem with my wife to see Sly and the Family Stones. His big hit was Family Affair. There were two sold out shows. One at 9pm and the other at midnite. The 9pm show started at midnight and that was it. Black folks from all over were enraged!!! Sly thought it was cute to stand us up and go back stage and do those drugs. He should be happy somebody wants to see his crack addicted azz let alone pull the same old bullshyt he pulled on us at the Apollo that night. I can see him smiing now with those GIGANTIC teeth. When I was a child, I acted s a child........"

Comment: Yo...I love Sly's music...I don't know 'bout paying 100 bucks for a tix...Then his azz leaves and dosen't come back...That would make me wanna put my foot higher, higher, higher up his azz...

Name: khufu
Comment: 3 simple solutions next time: 1) pay as you exit 2) He can no longer perform the song, "I wanna take you higher.." 3) In advance tell him "no bathroom breaks 'cause the bathrooms are all out of order.."

Name: GHank
Comment: Old habits are hard to break. Sly....just give it up.

Name: Luke_Cage
Comment: He returned to perform "If You Want Me to Stay" and, ironically, started singing "I Want to Take You Higher" - LMAO!!!! Now that's entertainment! @fanteeking: " I can see him smiing now with those GIGANTIC teeth." - You're not kidding. He's got some serious chompers!

Name: DCGG
Comment: What kinda dumb azz pays a crackhead 100.00?? Hell they coulda got the neighborhood crackhead Tyrone to do a medley of songs for 20.00...

Name: SpecialK
Comment: Hey Sly your last name is Stone but you don't have to stay Stoned! After seeing him on the Grammy's, there is no way I would have paid $100 to see him. How much can his body take? He's been druggin for quite some time. I think it's a wrap for Sly.

Name: Train
Comment: What did Rick James say to Chappell, "Cocaine is a helluva drug".

Name: pn2ppr
Comment: "he was clearly in a changed mental state and, yes, sleepy." Well that says it all people. Crack/Cocaine does not make you sleepy...it's the other white powder that does that. Too bad and so very sad. I'm was surprised to read that it was a sold out crowd, I mean sure, his music was good but his last appearance on the Grammy's left much to be desired. Ain't no way in this world I would have spent $100 to see that mess in person.

Name: Teigh
Comment: There were two sold out shows scheduled. Sad thing is Sly has learned that folks still want to see him (musicianship is pretty much dead save for a very selected few artists today) thing is, he can't stay clean long enough to make the money.

Name: mydchomegirl
Comment: People paid to see Sly Stone because we like to hear REAL musicians. I grew up listening to Sly Stone, Marvin Gaye, Earth, Wind, & Fire, The Brother's Johnson, Aretha Franklin,Parliament Funkadelic, Boosty Collins, Graham Central Station, Miles Davis, RUFUS featuring Chaka Khan, Steely Dan, etc. It is very hard for me to go to a concert today because the quality of music just isn't the same. I will pay to see Prince, The Jacksons, Whitney Houston, Morris Day & the Time, Sade, etc.

Name: lilred1
Comment: Wow! I am so disappointed with Mr. Stone. I grew up listening to Sly and the Family Stone, my father is a friend of Mr. Stone, and he will be in my prayers to recover before it's to late.

Name: soulmusic101
Comment: mydchomegirl...Adding LTD featuring Jeffery Osborne, The Isley Brother's, Aretha Franklin, HeatWave, Natalie Cole, George Benson, Quincy Jones, The Bar-Kay's, Cameo, ConFunkShun, Norman Connor's (Michael Henderson & Phyllis Hyman), Peabo Bryson, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, Tenna Marie, Rick James, Luther Vandross, Stephanie Mill's, The O'Jay's, Harold Melvin and The Blue Note's featuring Teddy, Ashford and Simpson, The Temptation's, Barry White, Stevie Wonder, Anita Baker, Keith Sweat, Atlantic Starr.....Man this is a long list...HaHa..oh plus The Whisper's, The Emotion's, The Dramatic's, Deneice William's, and Shalamar.

Name: pn2ppr
Comment: mydchomegirl and soulmusic101, I feel you on that. I still have vinyl from the greats that you mention. I love them all and have been shaking a tailfeather to their artistry since the very late 60's, 70's & 80's. For me, there is no music like the music they put down. We have a very rich musical history to be proud of and it is a shame that today's "acts" have not contributed by taking it to the next level...then again...maybe there isn't a next level because they all did the damn thang back in the day...

Comment: Pray for the brother

Name: soulmusic101
Comment: Did anyone actually see this show? You know Roger loves too Lie. I hear Marvin Gaye was known for coming in late back in da day also. But I may have to shank somebody for talking mess about MG...lol...side note for the gospel lover's, somebody sent me a copy of Coko's Gospel CD and it is actually pretty good.

Name: PBF_19
Comment: Sly is gone, his mind is gone. I heard of past performances of him acting "crackish" da.mn shame.

Name: soulmusic101
Comment: Correction:They purchased a legal copy at Amazon and sent me the CD as a gift. Oh and adding Alexander O'Neal, Cherrle, Gladys Night and her Pip's, and The Gap Band featuring Charlie Wilson.

Name: jess
Comment: Learned my lesson back in the day...as big a fan as I was of the Family Stone, I vowed I would never, ever pay another dime to see him in person again. It's beyond sad and tragic that he is still so messed up.

Name: vincent2for2
Comment: Sly has been doing this for at least 20 years...when will folks stop spending their money to see this zombie??

Name: Zumbagirl
Comment: Sly: Retire In Peace (R.I.P.), pleeeze. mydchomegirl and soulmusic101: I hear you and add a few more to the mix: Gap Band, Donny Hathaway, Patrice Rushen, Stephanie Mills, Commodores, Main Ingredient, 3 Degrees, The Emotions, Patti Labelle, and the Stylistics.

Name: Zumbagirl
Comment: soulmusic101 -- oops, missed your recent post re the Gap Band/Charlie Wilson.

Name: zuluman2
Comment: Add to that: The Dramatics, The Manhattans, Blue Magic, The Chi-lites, Archie Bell & the Dells, Kool & the Gang and even a little Slave (I'm Slidin')

Name: zuluman2
Comment: I meant Archie Bell & the Drells and the Dells (ooops!)

Name: zuluman2
Comment: Oh, and how about Barry White & The Love Unlimited Orchestra! The ultimate "Hustle" music.

Name: Zumbagirl
Comment: The sheer number of musicians noted above (70+) speaks volumes. (and it's a partial list).

Name: Gurlfrand
Comment: lol at these comments. Sly was ALWAYS known for either not showing up for a gig, or, showing up late (he must have invented "CP" time for musicians) - but, as someone mentioned, who in their right mind would spend $100 dollars to see him knowing his "state of mind." Love ya, Sly, but, love ya better on C.D.

Name: mydchomegirl
Comment: Good lookin out people... let's not forget, Zapp w/ Roger, Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Cameo, Rose Royce, The Dazz Band, Chic, O'Jays, Brick, FYI, (The Isley's are not good live), Mandrill, War, I can go on...

Name: TheBrownOne
Comment: What about Chuck Brown and the Soul Searches? Man, he's older the sly and don't miss a beat on that stage. Saw him last year and danced all damn night.....

Name: mydchomegirl
Comment: >thebrownone .. How can I forget my homey! Chuck Brown is off the chain! I know that he turned out the Hoodie Awards in Vegas with Steve Harvey.

Name: Teigh
Comment: soulmusic101...I actually thought about Alexander O Neal when I read this story. I remember back in the day he was so "candied" up that he sang the same song twice and didn't even realize it. I couldn't believe it -- he was tow up from the floor up. Cherelle would not even come out to sing with him. Alexander is huge in Europe today and I hope that his antics are a thing of the past.

Name: Zumbagirl
Comment: I wouldn't mind hearing Alexander O. sing The Drummer Boy three or four times in a row. lol

Name: stellababy5
Comment: I was just wondering to myself if the rumor is true, that Joss Stone is his daughter and this is why she prefers not to use his name in public. Can any one confirm whether it's true that she's his kid.If she is,what a heavy burden to carry.Peace and Blessings!

Name: soulmusic101
Comment: Teigh...I heard the rumor's about Alex and Yayo...Wow. mydchomegirl...I thought I was the only Black Person that appreciated "Kid Creole And The CoConut's and Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band"....zuluman2...good taste but how did everybody forget about Al Green....Adding The Spinner's, Tina Turner, Smokey and the Miracles, and Minnie Riperton. I had heard about Jamiroquai when he/they 1st came out with "Virtual Insanity" but I got their entire output before that cut and after that track, about a year ago. They are heavily influenced by Philly Soul, Chic, Patrice Rushen, Heatwave, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Ashford & Simpson among other's. Gotta love em for trying to keep Soul alive.
