Comment: I didn't know anything about him pre-Tina but, I think I'm gonna check out the CDs, which has to be better than buying music from a pedophile(which I haven't praise the Lord). RIP Ike.

Name: ChocolateBrownGal
Comment: RIP IKE, RIP.

Name: blaquebaby
Comment: I only came to know Ike thru Tina movie, I would have love to hear the other side of the story! Rock on Brother peace be unto to you and your family!

Name: NueNue
Comment: Considering he was verbally and physically abusive to a human being I can’t really say anything but I hope he made peace with God. It’s a shame that most people are going to remember this man by one line off of a movie and actions he made while under the influence of drugs.

Comment: I WONDER IF TINA WOULD SHOW UP FOR THE FUNERAL?

Name: nightshift
Comment: BOY, you CRAZY!?!?!?!?!?

Name: Soulwriter
Comment: In my opinion, the reason why his brutal treatment of Tina dogged him for the remainder of his lie and career was because he remained so arrogant and unrepentant about what happened....at times, he even tried to rationalize it away or insult people's intelligence by trying to say it never happned at all. Had Mr. Turner been man enough to pulicly state that he regretted what occurred between them nstead of dismissing it altogether, it would've made a big difference. Unless you're R. Kelly, celebs generally cannot expect the public to separate their personal deeds from their professional accomplishments. No disrepect to this important musician, but every action has a consequnce, and he should've never expected to be an exception to the rule.

Comment: Ike the man was extaordinary in so many good and bad ways . . . the Ike Turner life-time was one helluva rollercoaster ride 'cause he did it his way . . . he will get more kudos and recognition in death than he ever did in life . . . Tina could not be Tina without her "seasoning" from Ike and I hope that she attends the funeral . . . RIP, Ike

Name: McNasty
Comment: Mr. Turner was a true talent in his own right and and already well established on the chitlin' circuit when he ran across Ms. Tina. Not because he was a womanizer and abuser will he always have a stain, it's because he never admitted it or acknowledged it and in turn never atoned for his wrongdoing. I heard about his grammy and was glad he was able to at least pull his talent out of the cinders - he'll never be able to do that for his character. RIP Ike.

Name: GQ_Boo
Comment: Even before Tina's book was published I remember hearing stories when I was a little kid that he used to hit her and beat her badly ..... My family remembered seeing her bruised up before a performance here in DC back in the early 70's

Comment: RIP, Ike.

Name: khufu
Comment: Tina Turner is a Buddhist....it's going to be interesting to see whether she chooses to practice forgiveness and attend the funeral or not attend because she detached herself from him a long time ago......

Comment: I could be wrong and if I am I am sorry...Hey NUE NUE arent you a staunch defender of R Kelly?

Name: bigchassie
Comment: i remember the days when Ike and Tina used to play at this Joint i used to go called "The Club Manhattan" that joint used to rock. one of my childhood friends father used to play guitar for him.

Name: TAZBABY
Comment: RIP Ike!

Name: oshun
Comment: "While contemporaries such as Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Bo Diddley crossed over to white audiences, Ike Turner never was never able to make the jump and was confined to the less-lucrative R&B category." CONFINED?? like not crossing over is a curse!

Name: Debonair
Comment: I hope that somewhere in his life he was able to redeem himself. We're all falliable in some form so i won't clown him. RIP and may the Most High bless.

Name: McNasty
Comment: Khufu she can forgive him without attending his funeral. I'm sure one of the reasons she made her home in Italy and bow Switzerland is so she would never have to lay eyes on him again. In her interviews it is evident that she forgave herself for the time she spent when she knew she should have left and that she bore him no ill will but she doesn't have a damn thing to prove by going to his funeral. After all is said and done he is prolly just another dead darkie to her.

Name: McNasty
Comment: 'now'

Name: NYCsoul
Comment: RIP Ike and I hope that he made peace with his maker. I tend to agree that Ike was the poster boy for spousal abuse and America never made him forget it. I tend to agree that his attitude didn't help the situation and that's what stuck out in people's minds. Nevertheless, he deserves his props for contributing the growth of R&R, which people ignore or don't know about. As for Tina, it's not necessary for her to attend his funeral. She can give her sympathies right from where she lives. I'm not a fan of Tina's by any stretch of the imagination but I could understand her stance.

Name: NYCsoul
Comment: oshun> you can thank Motown for fueling the desire for crossover and anything that charts on an R&B list is worthless. Black singers go along with this mentality because their desire is to make money and pop(Yt) music has it. This despite that R&B/Hip Hop has always sold more despite poor marketing. Too many folks have this mentality that a record is not good if it does not crossover. Unfortunately, black artists suffer from this disease.

Name: Missyutwo
Comment: Does anyone remember when He was on Judge Joe Brown? I can't remember what that case was about.

Name: Sexee
Comment: Wow, never thought htis would happen.

Name: MOTHERSHIP
Comment: R.I.P. Ike. Ike laid the foundation for what is now rock and roll and he helped discover many artists, including Tina and she is what she is today under Ike's tuteledge. Hell, Ike and an 'em when they walked on the stage, they shut 'em down and these included a lot of the shows where there weren't many Negroes to be seen. Tina hasn't seen or spoken to Ike in over 35 years but she is aware of his passing.

Name: MOTHERSHIP
Comment: There once was a time where their people was all they had and it was nothing to "crossover" to because anything on the other side was a dilution. We were an intense people and it showed and that's why it was "co-opted" and as our artists became "co-opted" their music became diluted in the "crossing over". Missutwo, I saw that Judge Joe Brown episode. It had something to do with either a guitar or a show of some kind.

Name: crazilyz
Comment: Only Ike, Tina and God know what happened in their house. All I know is that if those abuse allegations were untrue, then why didn't Ike sue Tina over the book and the movie? I'm sure Tina has forgiven Ike and hopefully they made amends before he passed. RIP bro.

Name: B00TANEB00TUS
Comment: ...Yo, I heard sumthing hilarious on the TMJ this morning 'bout this...The dude said...Ya'll bamma's know that Ike Turner died and NOT Lawrence Fishburn...Yeah, I wished Ike got the chance to tell his side...I just can't see how a man could be soooo dayum brutal and sh1t...It was like he was created by Alice Walker...Mister?...I'm not suprised Tina Turner didn't make a statement...What's she 'posed to say?...I didn't know Ike was such a prominent figure in the developement of Rock n roll...I just thought he beat up on Tina...It's fucc'ed up he's gonna be remembered that way...We don't know if he tried to make peace with Tina or not...I just hope he made peace with himself...Yo, he did look funny as he11 in that blonde beatle wig...RIP

Name: Southernbelle
Comment: I remember the first time I ever saw Ike Turner. It was a few years back he was on one of the Judge shows sueing some woman. At that time, I had never laid eyes on the real Ike Turner but I can tell by his conversation who he was. L. Fishburn played the hell out of that role! The man is gone now. Let's bury his demons also. RIP Mr. Turner, Just like all of us you've made some mistakes during your lifetime. It's now time to rest your weary heart.

Name: dport
Comment: McNasty, I'm glad someone else on here won't just look at his portrayal in the movie or what he did in his personal life. True, it wrong to be abusive to another human being but this dude was a musical genius from his era. I even dug listening to music through my parents as a kid. I also do remember my parents telling how Tina left Ike while staying in a hotel in the same city we lived in(Dallas, Texas). I'd love to know what happened to that crew that worked in the hotel that night....or one of Ike & Tina's son's I'd heard that continued to live in Dallas as an adult. Let's just be forgiving and remember this great artist.

Name: Gurlfrand
Comment: >Soulwriter - what you wrote was my azzesment of Ike as well; he always in interviews seemed very unrepentent about his relationship with Tina, like he never did nothing wrong.

Name: Soulwriter
Comment: I agree with NYCSoul---if their son needed her presence there to fully grieve over the loss of his father, I don't think she'd be too petty to comfort him there at the services, but funerals are for the living, not to prove a point. Tina's lived her life with dignity and hasn't attacked the man or contributed to his professional demise, so she has nothing to atone for here accept her part in the marriage, which I'm sure she did decades ago. she didn't attend her abusive mother's services, so I doubt she'll do that for Ike.

Name: Soulwriter
Comment: Thanks Gurlfand....his attitude was unreal; so sad and so uneccessary....

Name: Gurlfrand
Comment: >Soulwriter - I never thought of what you just wrote; in all of the years since Tina's big breakout in 1984, I never heard her ever say a negative word about Ike in public, in interviews - ever - she just never spoke of him again, and just moved forward with her life.

Name: dmsr70
Comment: Yes it is unfortunate that a large portion of Ike Turner's career will only be remembered by his abusive relationship with Tina. I have always known of his contributions to music and what a talent this man was. He definitely deserves his spot in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. I am curious to know if Tina will attend the funeral but would not blame her if she did not. I am sure she has made her peace with Ike and if she has not, she cannot deny that without him, she would not be where she is today. Jacked up with what she had to go through to get there but what are you gonna say - it's the truth. McNasty - why are you always calling your people "Darkies"?

Name: Gettogurl
Comment: Tina, I'm in here.

Name: beboyz
Comment: Ike was already dead to Tina. I lost a best friend after 16 years. We havent spoken in years. I can relate. That person no longer exists in the universe.

Name: Gettogurl
Comment: What the problem is?

Name: RealGAPeach
Comment: Question: If your ex died regardless of the type of marriage- would you attend the services or simply pay respect to the family?

Name: Gurlfrand
Comment: >RealGAPeach - that would depend on if we had children together, and the current age of those children; if they were still minors, yes, I would escort my kids to the services myself, unless we had a volatile breakup and bad feelings remain between me and his family, I might ask someone in his family to take my children - otherwise, I wouldn't attend, and just send my respects to his mother or family members.

Name: Calidee
Comment: We are the sums of what is good and bad about us. Ike Turner was a great musician, but not great in terms of his relationship with women. This does not and should not erase the fact that he played a very important part in Rock & Roll History. He should be honored for that contribution. To me it really doesn't matter what Tina Turner thinks, she has her life and Ike had his.

Name: GHank
Comment: Ike Turner and the Kings of Rhythm. "Rocket 88" with Jackie Brenston was one of the songs that started Rock-N-Roll.

Name: Gurlfrand
Comment: You are right about the musical history that he made; no body could touch that - I believe, musically, Ike was way ahead of his time. Most of the english/brittish bands that came along after the 50's tried to copy his style of music. From what I read, people came from really far to experience the Ike, Tina, and Kings of Rhythm experience at the "juke joints" in their day - no doubt about that.

Name: Soulwriter
Comment: I agree with Gurlfrand; I wouldn't attend my ex's funeral unless our son needed/wanted me there. I still have love for his brother and grandmother, but could take or leave the rest of his peeps, esp. his mother. I wouldn't want to seem like a hypocrite and attend, then be looked at crazy b/c I wouldn't be emotional about his passing. Like a wise poster said before me, once a person is healthily removed from your life, they don't exist in your universe anymore period.

Comment: Anna Mae eat the cake!

Name: My2Pennies
Comment: Here is what was printed in Ike's obituary in the LA Times...so don't expect Tina to be at the funeral. ....but on Wednesday a representative of Tina Turner delivered a terse comment regarding the death of the singer's ex-husband. "Tina is aware that Ike passed away earlier today," publicist Michele Schweitzer said. "She has not had any contact with him in 35 years. No further comment will be made."

Name: beboyz
Comment: Well now Ike is at peace. It had to be hell living in Tina's shadow. He had to live that humiliation day by day and I know that had to hurt. He was a legend in his own mind. As I stated in the Marion Jone's Post Karma is a beyotch!!!

Name: ladybyrd
Comment: Tina's publicist has spoken. Tina is aware of Ike's death and she hasn't spoken with him in 35 years, per Tina's publicist. Ike is a Rock & Roll Legend, but it's sad that he will be known for beating his wife (Tina Turner).

Name: nycGYRL888
Comment: I just wonder if this man ever re-married. If so, his wife must feel real bad that everyone is more concerned about Tina's azz! I mean it is what it is. What happened occured decades ago. If he didn't make peace with God prior to yesterday then that's between him and God. Tina has nothing to do with that man. If she has had nothing to say in 35 years, I doubt she needs to fly 1/2 way around the world to make a phony appearance for publicity sake. RIP Ike! You did it your way. (Be it good, or bad...you did it)~

Name: queeniebunz
Comment: You reap what you sow, karma, what goes around comes around, etc. As I read the article and the comments, all I could think of was Ms Celie's statement to Mister - "what you did to me, already done to you"...and "til you do right by me, everything in your life is gonna crumble!"...Ike never acknowledged the extent of the abuse, he never apologized and he never showed remorse. As a result, his legacy to most isn't the music he created. He's "that guy who used to beat the sh*t outta Tina Turner" and that's what he gets. Such is life. When you do wrong, you gotta pay, sometimes eternally. RIP, the guy who used to beat the sh*t outta Tina Turner. Dummy.

Name: My2Pennies
Comment: Per LA Times: Ike Turner said on repeated occasions that he was married 13 times, Tina being his second wife. He is survived by at least four children: sons Ike Jr., Michael and Ronald, and daughter Mia. (Tina Turner is Ronald's mother.)

Name: queeniebunz
Comment: And I'll also say this - if he did that rape thing to her in the studio portrayed in the movie, he shoulda been taken out and shot! We wouldn't be talking about him dying in his sleep. And I don't doubt that it happened or someone would have come forward and said it was false. But back then, there was no such thing as "raping" your wife. But that was rape and rapists are supposed to be locked away or put under the jail...That scene was so disturbing to me that I was mad all day after I saw it. My boyfriend at the time got the evil eye all day til I calmed down. The man was a monster, plain and simple. An unrepentant, remorseless, drug-addicted monster. He gets no sympathy from me. None.

Name: RealGAPeach
Comment: WOW just getting back to say something; i have children another man( we were and sometimes I wonder if I would go or even tell my sons about it. He was a nasty mofo(very similiar to Ike) and my oldest son will not even mention his name. Just a thought.

Name: McNasty
Comment: Dmsr why are you always riding my crotch?!

Name: McNasty
Comment: NYCGRL888 The white girl you see him with was who he supposedly married after he was released from prison.

Name: oshun
Comment: >>Name: NYCsoul Comment: oshun> you can thank Motown for fueling the desire for crossover and anything that charts on an R&B list is worthless. Too many folks have this mentality that a record is not good if it does not crossover. Unfortunately, black artists suffer from this disease. Exactly, NYCsoul. and the crossover r&b music today is crap! i was listening to the neo/rhianna duet (hate that i love u) and commented to my boyfriend that they might as well have been justin timberlake and christina aguilera!

Name: Gettogurl
Comment: Tina... I'm in here.... What the problem is?

Name: MsVette
Comment: In '85, an old bf's band was performing at a club in the L.A. area. We were all back in their "dressing room" during a break, when Ike walked in with a small wooden box in hand, said what's up to everybody, sat down, then proceeded with some kind of a card to "chop up" the contents of the box. I wasn't sure what it was until he actually snorted some from the corner of the card, right there in front of us all.

Name: nycGYRL888
Comment: You are right about that Oshun! The R&B of today is so wack. I hate that "I hate that I love you" crap. They sang it on American music awards and put my black arse to sleep! >>>McNasty, thanks for the update. It figures, only a white woman would tolerate his nonsense anyway.

Name: Kyenn
Comment: Like most of you, I remember hearing stories about Ike and Tina before the movie. From what I heard, Tina was no saint. That doesn't excuse the abuse, but it takes 2 to tangle. People keep saying karma is at play. The man was 76 years old and died in his sleep. It's not like he got shot or dies of an overdose. Let the man rest in peace and take his place in history. He is not the only famous person beating his spouse!

Name: Gettogurl
Comment: Amen, girl.

Name: Gettogurl
Comment: In the immortal words of Ike Turner...Tina, I'm in here. What the problem is?

Name: MissBee
Comment: If I am remembering correctly, Ike had some charges filed against him for beating his white wife not long after the movie had come out. He was trying to promote his and her new act since he was getting so much attention from the movie. Not too long after that, charges for beating. He died in his sleep from all the drugs he's done over the years. There is nothing in the world that Tina could have done short of kicking his @ss the way he did hers to be part of a tangle of any sort. He gets no sympathy here. He is definitely a bit more crispy looking now than in life, given where he is. It sure is hot in thurrrr!

Name: nightshift
Comment: Not for nothing, nycGYRL888: how can you say only a white woman would tolerate his nonsense? What was Tina doing? Going to a pilates class before picking up Biff & Suzy from their play date? or Having a martini at the Country Club?....SHE WAS TOLERATING THAT AZZ.. THAT'S WHAT!!
