Comment: Man I hate to see them go, but the show really wasn't all that with out Toni(Jill Marie Jones). The show was spending out of control with the last couple of episodes before the strike! Monica was getting on my nerves, and Golden Brooke she is just crazy. I prefer the re-runs on BET anyways! Although I did not like when Toni married Todd totally bomber to the show! Man I am going to miss Tracee maybe her and William can have a spend off show! LOL, Tracee Ross should join The Game

Comment: Incredibly Girlfriends got all this press yesterday about the episode being Tracee diretorial debut with a focus on teen driving. If this is true it's definitely a casualty of the writers stike. A lot of people lost production deals (Taye Diggs among others) due to the strike. It wouldn't be the first time a Black show just disappeared...it happened to A Different World, Kevin Hill, and many others.

Comment: Dang, it seems kinda cold to not even let them finish their last season. I guess it's a money thing (isn't everything? lol) I never regularly watched but when I did catch it, I thought it was a quality program, though I haven't seen any new episodes. I'm not sure if the lead character ever got to get married, but if not, it's def. time to move on, nine years is a stretch to carry the same story line--single professional seeks marriage, lol. I'm inferring from your post blaquebaby that the character did finally get married? If so, good deal...(and that spinoff idea is not a bad one, a lot of successful shows had successful spinoffs, "Cheers" and "Frazier" come to mind.)

Comment: It was nice that it lasted this long but this has always been a thing with African American shows whether they're comedy/sitcom, drama, etc. - THEY DON'T LAST! White-TV as I call it has been like this for a very long time. No more quality family shows (on the local channels) since Good Times..lol If you notice all the 'new' tv shows gearing towards families and young contain a full White cast and maybe one African American and/or Spanish, Asisan character. White-TV sadly has taken over and will continue to do so. I know we have BET and TVOne but there really should be a local African American channel that we can watch, that has quality tv shows, not the sterotypical drug-dealing, murderer, gang-banging, promiscious, etc. as we're always portrayed as. Sad, very, very sad.

Comment: I agree with Khufu the writing was good. It's terrible that Jill left the show. Although I like Monica, I can only take her in drips. William and Joan were the strongest characters on the show. I think many underestimate the fine acting skills of William. I hope he reappears elsewhere. Golden Brooks and Persia were the worst characters. I wouldn't mind seeing the show sans those two.

I'm sure that they've lost a lot of ratings since she's left. And I too think Tracee Ellis would do a great job on the game. Her comedic timing is excellent.

Comment: As much as I love "Girlfriends," I personally feel that the show has run its course. They have really run out of ideas. It was much funnier with Toni's character, her mother, and even Mr. Swedelson (who was funny as hell!). But I also feel that the network should at least give it a proper sendoff by letting Joan and Aaron finally get married.

Comment: The lackluster box office performance of The Great Debaters hurt my heart. It was a learning experience for me and an opportunity to be proud of the talent of our people as well as the tenacity, courage and faith of those who believed that we were capable of learning and accomplishing much. They persevered under challenging and dangerous circumstances. We owe it to ourselves to learn as much as we can about them and pass it on.
I'm all for a good laugh, but something is wrong when Roscoe can hit #2. We have enough money/time to support both. Why don't we?

Comment: Girlfriends cancelled is unfortunated but it was the best written show. I found it NOT funny at all. I stopped watching by 3 season. Yesterday on FOX LA morning show Tracee was interviewed for her directoral debut on the show and now they say they are cancelling it. What irony! I don't care for Will's wife. We don't need Tracee moving to the #1 black show , the Game. She'll ruin it. That show does great without any need assistance.

Comment: Successful black shows never get the send-off that white shows get. 'The Cosby Show' is the only black show that got a somewhat proper send-off which was tame compared to Seinfeld and Friends given that Cosby helped NBC reach number 1 in the 80s and defined "MUST SEE TV." Sorry to see 'Girlfriends' go. It was one of my favorites. The show's storylines were declining NOT because Toni was no longer on the show (good riddance), but some of them were just too much. I can't stand 'House of Payne.' It's not funny. It relies too much on physical humor and over-the-top acting. Also, the little girl grates on my last nerve. Khufu...'Soulfood' ended after 5 seasons because that's the normal number of seasons Showtime series receives. I don't recall any of Showtime's successful shows running beyond 5 seasons.

Comment: Girlfriends was a good, positive show about driven Black women (except Lynn), so I'm sad to see it go. However, the past two seasons weren't very good, and the way the story lines are set up, I don't think there's much more the characters can do. My GF spinoffs: 1. Joan and William get married. Joan becomes a lawyer again, and they live on the East Coast. They act too well together to not have their own show. 2. Darnell walks around without a shirt for a full hour. ;)

The show never matured their characters - it aged them and all of them feared 30 like it was the big bad wolf! Not a good message to send to an aging fan base.

Comment: I quite enjoyed Girlfriends during its 9-year run. I could relate to those story lines and was proud to see a show about single, professional African American women. Their relationshp woes, drama with their employers, friendship drama resonated with me. I just get so tired of seeing shows about po' blacks living in the hood. The African-American life is multi-faceted and we ain't all shuckin', jivin' and living it up in the projects! I am really disappointed in the CW.
