Comment: What is the big deal? it is simple. If you do not like what he is doing do not support him. Is he really hurting black people? or just hurting thier spirit? Or is it the blackface people don't like? If he was out murdering blacks then I would be outraged, but this is a comedy show and to pretend like this satire of black life is unbelievable is stupid. Everyday I come across blackpeople that talk just like he does with risiculous kids names like laderrshaday and stupidity like that. It is just comedy. Once again is he really doing harm or you just dont like it? Why not complain about the black comedians that have whole shows that all they do is talk about whites? I don't see anyone up in arms about that. You know if EUR did not keep putting stories up about him I would not even know who this guy is. So These stories are actually giving him pub.

Comment: >Ridiculous is what I meant

Comment: You know what the most effective tool would be is to get the segment of black women he is making a show of and get them upwardly mobile (in a perfect world). Get them to speak good english, get them to stop having kids they cannot afford, and naming thier kids those way out names (I mean come on some are waaayy out there and don't try to say they are african names), just being ghetto. Then when you see some stupidity like what he is doing you will just laugh and know that it is impossible because our women are not like that. Maybe people don't like it because it is hitting to close to home is some cases? Hmmm. Oh, and before someone comes and tries to say I am white because they don't like what I say, I am not white. It happens all the time on here to everyone that does not "go with the program".

Comment: so: how is a white man in black face denigrating black women worse than black men in fat suits denigrating black women

Name: BigBlackRod
Comment: Ban this sissy and next they gon' ban "Madea", and y'all KNOW y'all don't want that! PEACE.

Name: BlkATLTop
Comment: What's crazy is that if he were Black, making the same jokes about black church names, and "who's yo baby daddy" and "Wal-Mark", many Black folks would find this amusing.

Name: sweetpea
Comment: As a black woman, I'm offended just looking at him. I read about this guy last year and was thinking he can't get away with what he is doing. This is a modern day minstral show.

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: So how are black men in comedy/song denigrating black women by calling them bytches and ho's different from black women who do the same? This is IMUS all over again. As long as black people denigrate themselves, yt people are excused.

Name: tinkius
Comment: Wrong!!!

Name: dst89
Comment: bigfriend, everyone is entitled to their opinion. doesn't matter what skin tone you are, speak your mind. as far as this story goes, I can't say that I am personally offended but I do not agree with him making a mockery of black women or any ethnic/racial group with denigrating stereotypes. And yes bigblackrod, I do have a problem with Madea, I think it's all buffoonery.

Name: blackdragon
Comment: I hope Ms. Cannick is successful. This guy is doing a modern-day minstrel show. I also hope she goes after black men who do the same thing like Tyler Perry's Madea character. Bigfriend, you may have your views, but this is blackface. Anytime I see that, I think of disgusting people like Al Jolson and the makers of "Birth of a Nation." I guess black pride is dead.

Name: BlkATLTop
Comment: Blackdragon, I don't think Black pride is dead. I think we've become selective on which issues to become prideful (like this one)

Name: realuvbaby
Comment: It's not only that he's doing, it's the spirit in which he is doing it. How and why did he get so well-versed in black culture anyway? Why doesn't he do gay humor then, because that's what he is? He can't speak for black women because he's not black, nor is he a woman, so he is not an expert on anything. He's just trying to carve out a market for himself. No, he's trying to be offensive and folk are responding to it. I'd cast him in the same vat with D.L. Hughley, however. Offensive humor just ain't funny, I don't care where you fall on the rainbow.

Name: DOne
Comment: Where's the connection between the Madea character and Shirely OLiguor or whatever she's called? There's a long history of comedians and actors playing female characters, from Milton Burrell,Harvey Harmen, Flip Wilson, to that asian guy on MADTv, the list is long, however, this people always played characters of their own race and the sole purpose of the character wasn't to be demending

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: Done..I agree..and there is also a such thing called self-deprecating humor in movies such as SuperBad (which was funny as hell). Such humor tends to strike a different sort of chord when black people are involved. Suggesting a correlation 'tween Madea and Kipp is ridiculous.

Name: blackdragon
Comment: BlkATLTop, for a lot of blacks, black pride/Afrocentricity is dead. Look at what's going in your local black community with things like drug dealing and guys not taking care of their kids. Look at what's going on in rap music. Look at the way some blacks think when things like blackface (bigfriend) and the n-word is discussed. I think it's dead.

Name: MER82
Comment: Thank you DOne! Negroes are a trip, so if Michael Richards would have had on black face when he kept screaming out N!gger to the blacks in the audience, that wouldn't have been so bad I guess. First of all, Madea and the others were not meant to be demeaning as much as a tribute. Now, the character in Norbit is another story. But this is a white man who is making a mockery of an entire race of people. And yall negroes know good and dayum well when it comes to white folk, they are not compartamentalizing the humor, "oh, he is referring to the ghetto ones, not my best black friend." In fact, the more prominent Obama and other people become in this culture, the more we will continue to see white folk acting out. There is nothing cute or acceptable about this. Its true that black comedians have been dergoatory to their own in the past, but it did stem from what Mus describes as self-deprecating...and now the tide is turning on them as well. Blacks who made a living on making fun of their own will have to step up their game-but then again, the way some of you see no problem with what this fool is doing, maybe they have nothing to worry about. Whites and self-hating blacks can join together and keeping making the fool of black culture. Nah, bigfriend, I don't see you as white, I see you as white on the inside. Just keep doing you, its always good to know the real from the fake.

Name: McNasty
Comment: First there is the black face which is a battle we've always fought against. Then the fact that this is an overweight fag parodying black women. I said before that there are too many similar images in the white community for him to make fun of without stepping on anyone's toes. I too think it is meant to be demeaning which brings me to Madea. That character mirrors a similar character in a lot of black families - TP just tends to lean toward humor. When it comes down to it the lesson/message from any play or movie by TP usually is delivered by Madea. I don't see the comparison with her and this sorry excuse of a gay white man. Instead of trying to police Isiah Washington the gay mafia should be all over this!

Name: McNasty
Comment: I'm not going to get into what we do to our own because other than what we have let some of the rappers get away with - we have always found a way to laugh at ourselves and I don't think thats a bad thing. I do think there is a line that should never be crossed and maybe to back up off all this kinda jazz black comedians should stop with all the white jokes. Although I don't see ANY similarities with that kind of humor and what this punk has done. Seen any black comedians in drag and white face lately?!

Name: DOne
Comment: Thank you musb; For the most part, Mexican comedians build their entire routine around being Mexican. I seen Jewish comedians do whole routines around the whole Jewish mother sterotype. There's a whole new chop of white comedians who have built careers around being rednecks. Comedians for the most part pull from what they know for their humor; its when they step outside of their bounds of knowledge and simply sterotyping others that they become offensive and that includes black comedians who decided that they want to do a string of asian or Mexican jokes.

Comment: I don't mean to stand in the way of my justifiably angry people. But, prior to this article, I'd listened extensively to this guy's impressions of a black woman. For a time, not even knowing he was white. As an admirer of impressions, I was amazed at how intricate, detailed, and just dead-on he was of a certain type of sista in our community. It was funny to me and all my peoples. And I will admit: It was only wide-open Funny UNTIL I found out he was a white man, who (to be fair), I found out also does impressions of white hillbilly's, old white lady's, and other white types. I then had to ask myself some serious questions: Why did I stop thinking it was as funny when I found out he was white? Even though his detail in impersonating some of the most privately beloved aspects of our culture had to have come from someone who looks at it (our culture) with the same up-close&personal, loving amusement that we do often-times. But I can't pretend to know his heart for sure. And as a black man, I have to honor any of us who say we are offended. Just, in light of my own personal experience with this comedic material (found on a whim, on youtube, one day). I had to ask myself some soul searching questions about why our human family has not healed enough yet that we ALL can joke and fun about one another without malice and without offense, yet. You know, like family does ;). And I came to the realization that: I am looking forward to that day.

Comment: Bottom line. If any Black comedian tried to make a living out of portraying sterotypes of Gays, Gays would have a field day. And rightly so. It has always been some what acceptable for people to make fun of themselves. We all know of or heard about someone who might fit some of the sterotypes that this fool is presenting. But we know that the images don't fit all Blacks.

Comment: black people need to wake up! this is not acceptable. if you are black and need to ask what the big deal is; know that you are brain dead and lacking decency. when one disrespects your women---they are disrespecting YOU! i have to put it in those terms because most black men are SO selfish they can't see anything unless it affects THEM. if you want respect you have to earn it! tyler perry, martin lawrence, eddie murphy---NONE of these clowns get a pass from me. looking at their mate choices they don't really even like black women. the so-called hip hop community doesn't get a pass either. it is called self respect. it is called black women have had enough! it is called respect for humanity. just as black men before insisted "i am a man" we are women and insist on respect. black women, we had all better come to grips with the fact that black men don't care. white men don't care. no one cares about us. we had better get it together and focus on ourselves. respect, love and accept ourselves. stand in unity and command respect. lily livered, spineless, cowardly black men are content to demean, degrade, and disrespect us for crumbs from the white man's table; and whine about freedom of speech. hurting us is the only time this type of so-called black man will exercise his "freedom". support for the blackface wearing white boy---race traitors! black women, stop making excuses and get the message! then get busy! if we are to have value we must bestow it upon ourselves. now. it will only get worse. trust. http://focusedpurpose.blogspot.com

Comment: The sad thing about this story is that many, many blacks laugh at this kind of satire and think it is harmless. It marginalizes and stereotypes blacks in the most dinigrating way. We have been taught to despise ourselves and our culture. This is has been by jealous whites as long as blacks have been a part of this society. We have made tremendous contributions to the United States but we as have people as a whole have forgotten how much black people have contributed to make this society what it is. Somethings are just not funny, for instance "put down humor" We have such a subconcious self-hatred of ourselves that we allow performers like this to mock us and marginalize our people as a caricature. I do not support nor will I ever support humor that is directed as us to put us all in a bad light. When we again become outraged at such performance then it will stop. "If you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything."

Name: archcookies
Comment: additionally I don't like Madea, Big Momma or any of Eddie Murphy's female characters. Black women if you don't demand respect you want get it. Black people we are the biggest reason this kind of shyt flies today in our society. We are so immature and want to laugh at everything and everything is not funny. They delibrately attack the black church and marginalizes it's importance to black people. Some things are just not funny, but if we continue to allow our minstrels (rappers)to disrepect womanhood, and reduce all females as bytches, Hos, etc. then the whute performer considers us fair game.

Comment: I'm a black guy and I agree with focusedpurpose. A lot of us are brain dead.

Name: dede0320
Comment: bigfriend>>>Even though you are not white you must be an OREO, or something vanilla, but anyway...we have to start within our communities and ourselves. I have nothing else to say about this, just sad...we allow so many things to come upon us by our actions and our willing to settle and let by gones be by gones. I'm so glad that my ancestors and those before me did not settle. they stood for something and did not fall for anything...where is our esteem and our pride of being black...

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: Arch..you obviously dislike all humor and it shows your immaturity. Focused..you sound as crazy as a right/leftwing nutjob. All people hate black women, black women need to, black men don't...yadayadayada..whateva negro

Name: DOne
Comment: Hold up, focusedpurpose, the majority of men who have commented on this have an issue with the protrayal, but you come up in here with this "ALL BLACK MEN" stuff. All the black men you talk about were raised by who, black women. So it could be argued that if the women were on their job, their sons wouldn't have turned out so selfish. I'm no fan of "popular" rap, however, both black women and men are equally responsible for the state of both our young blk men and women.

Name: archcookies
Comment: >mus No I don't dislike humor, I dislike stupid, stereotypical, inmmature, humor. I consider myself intelligent and able to distinquish between real intelligence and thought and stupidity.

Name: archcookies
Comment: >Mus you must have alot of time on your hands to sit and pick apart other peoples thoughts and idea. There really must not be a lot going on in your life and you speak of my immaturity, I speak of your self-hatred. If it is important that you be right so be it. I am merely stating what my feelings are about this particular subject. You always come in defense of the rappers and their right to freedom of speech. Do you consider your sisters, aunts, female cousins and especially your mother as a bytch? I can only speak for me, if you support rap music and their artist that's your right as an American, but conversely it is my right to have my opinion about what I see as moral decay and degradation. Everything is not funny and I am offended that you support a racism white person rather than be outraged that such entertainment is permitted to go forward. Maybe you have so self-pride or racial identity, but as a black mature woman I despise anything that oppresses any people not just blacks.
