I once has a minister who told all of the women in the church not to compliment him on his appearance, suit, etc. unless they had also complimented their husband. I also noticed that too many sisters were suddenly called into the ministry and had to sit in the pulpit. Fortunately, his wife was an Evangelist, so she was sitting up there, too. When the woman comes to town, she picks her up at the airport, provides her with shelter, food, etc. My mom was recently stranded in their town due to a snowstorm out west. The weather was nice there, so my mom assumed that they would go out. The woman had the nerve to tell her that she had spent most of the day at church, came home early and was now relaxing. She didn't call her again until the next day - 15 minutes before she knew my mom was leaving to catch her plane.

I could go anywhere in the community and tell them who my grandmother is and get a hot meal and place to stay if I needed it. Now, there are just pockets of that and they are far and few between.

They would feed, clothe and shelter you and all and be the symbol of kindness. Many of these southerners moved north and got the Yankee Inhospitable flu and while in Rome they started to do like the Romans. My late Mom used to send for her so-called childhood 'friend' EVERY year and fly her to Jersey. She would take her to Bway plays, museums, have parties for her and provide clothes for her trifling azz daughters and granddaughters 10 zillion kids. When my Father was dying, this 'friend' came to our house and was asked to help clean the kitchen and ONE bedroom and then had the audacity to charge my family $30!! This could've been the time to return a small favor, but NAW!! I'll NEVER FORGET THAT!!! There are some people, no matter how well you treat them, will USE YOU LIKE A TOOL!! IT'S IN THEIR DNA AND THEY SEE YOU AS SOMETHING TO BE USED!! Recognize these kind of folks, kick them to the curb and keep on keeping on!

Then, she started calling suggesting that I should send her clothes, etc.
I was like WTH?!! This past Christmas, I didn't even bother to send a card. Do you know she called on Christmas Eve? That call hasn't been returned as of today and won't be.
I used to think that as long as you treated people well, they would have sense enough to reciprocate. Not out of obligation, but because it is the decent thing to do.

When I wuz small, my Daddy used to turtle wax his car shinny as a new penny, shine his stacey adam shoes,slick his hair back, put on a shirt and tie and dress me like Little Lord Faunteroy. It was proper etiquette for southerners who moved "Up South"to places like Indianapolis, Chicago and Detroit City(southerners said this!)"to put "ON the Dogs" when they returned to tiny McKenzie & Huntington, TN. You were spozed to impress upon your southern relatives how "high on the hog" you were living. I witnessed "a many o' grandiose lie" being told about how rich my family wuz.LOL!! Ironically, there would be some visiting folks who would come to your house and knock on your door while visiting south, but who wouldn't DARE knock on your door the following week after returning to the north. That wuz strange! That southern hospitality came DIRECTLY from West Africa. My college roommates were Yorubas and Igbos from Nigeria and WHENEVER you came to our house food and drink wuz offered to you. Black southern students did likewise, but NORTHERN Black students had YANKEE INHOSPITALITY. They would cook food and run to the kitchen to eat while you sat hungry in the living room. LOL!!!

If you take your family to a relative or friend's house in Chicago and it's dinner time, this is what will happen: While you're sitting and chatting with your family and friends in the FRONT ROOM(this is a southern term for LIVING ROOM)the host family's members will slip ONE BY ONE into the kitchen and eat and NEVER ask you if your family members are hungry or thirsty. It happened so often to my family as a kid that we would bring shopping bags full of fried chicken, greens, macaroni & cheese, corn bread and a humungous jar of kool-aide and eat on the outskirts of town BEFORE we visited the Chicago home. I know some people can be so DAMN SELFISH!!! We loved our Chicago relatives and friends but we knew they were selfish and ugly actin'.

Khufu, I caught on the first time you listed the addresses of Clinton's office and the Atlah Church. I knew something was screwy. But, anyhoo, this guy is gaining too much publicity. He's on Bossip and now this site. I'm sick and tired of him. Right now, we need to focus positive energy and vibrations towards Obama. Ignore the divisive mind games - no matter what shape or form they come in.
