Comment: Goodnplenty1957, while I understand your point, I can also understand why the show wouldn't be on if it was about a black man/white woman. Nobody would want to see that because we see it in everyday life, ESPECIALLY in the sports and entertainment worlds. (I know I sure as hell wouldn't want to see it.) Statistically speaking, black men are more likely to be with white women than white men are to be with black women. I also have to disagree with the just-another-notch-on-the-belt theory. If the show does pull the flava flav vets and winds up being the trash McNasty predicts, I hope it is taken off the air and someone figures out how to do it in a more TASTEFUL manner. It is DEFINITELY a subject for which there IS interest. For example, looking at people like Grace Hightower and Robert DeNiro, what are some of the challenges they face? What makes their relationship WORK?

Comment: I don't know why black women make a deal about yt men 'finally' giving them some play without there being underlying intentions. For years, black women kept saying 'yt so and so has some love for the sisters'. It seems to me that we have issues too, namely low self esteem and think that no other race of men are interested in us. When they are, we make a deal out of it. For me, yt men are not my cup of tea but this current 'phenonmon'(sp?) you'd swear that the yt boys were giving away something for free! The show is a waste of time and how is it they never should loving black relationships or dating shows? *shrugs*

Comment: I don't believe VH1 gets "a pass." This is a business and ratings and Flava Flav's desire to cash a check are the only reasons Flava of Love gets renewed. Blame VH1, but do acknowledge the complicity of Flava Flav and the "ladies" - all of who willingly participate.

Comment: See? People have always crossed the color line. Seems only the white-male dominated principles dictated that this shouldn't be. Meanwhile as they crept to the slave quarters whenever they wanted . . . It's the 21st Century and we are much more open and tolerant and it's out there and it's a very good thing. But reality shows? I'm up to here with heels on with them, though. If reality shows gave folk better understanding then that would be one thing. However, reality shows seem to be very voyeuristic and/orthe hams who just want to be all up in the camera. These days 15 minutes of fame can translate into millions of dollars.

Comment: Since PTown cannot be identified as gender specific, before I start off I want to identify myself as a sister. With that said:
This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard off. And not because it's interracial, I gives a dayum about that. Simply because it's not necessary. They are trying to rile up people with titillating stories, and just as Trianna said, the programming on VH1 is, at best, questionable. (though I find myself tuning in occassionally no lie). The title, in and of itself is going to draw a certain quality, if I may, of people watching it. And, anytime someone fixes their mouth to say "I'm not racist against my own people", you already have a problem. Because if love, is in fact, LOVE, then it wouldn't matter who you choose, and barometers such as ethnicity would be irrelevant. Now whether it's a physical or emotional connection he feels with black women, that's HIM, but I find it hard to believe that anything like this would get the green light if it were the inverse (a black man looking for a white woman. And FORGET about a white woman looking for a brother, that would have been crushed at the door).
As for ME and MY personal preference, I keeps it black. For no other reason than this works for ME. I loves my brothers. I'm not saying that other sisters who don't have a brother DON'T, but I don't prescribe to the notion of the 'no good black men' philosophy. Please. I've never had any problems, and neither have my friends. It's what you choose, and what you attract. I'm not trying to get into the philosophicizin "law of attraction" stuff, I'm just talking about keeping your focus, and allowing your instincts (and a lil prayer) to guide you in the right direction, not to mention being patient.
That's my two cents, and I'm sure I got off the subject, but that's just me being me.

I told her "They very carefully considered who would be what race/sex for each role".The fact that WW marry and date outside their race more than all American women ,other than Asians ,but the opposite is true onscreen speaks to more White male trickery in Hollywood.They will show an Asian woman with a White dude but never with an Asian one! No matter how many Black men date white women off screen, the power and white cultural supremacist bias of this show hurts us:
1) If a white man is looking for a Black woman to be HIS queen, then who is "KING?"
Surely not the Black man....
2) TV promotes greater socail norms therefore most Black women seeing this on TV will see this as normal and desireablw
3) You control a nation by controlling its women..you control a nation's childen by controlling that nation's women....you control a nation's future by controlling that nation's children....

I could care less about these dang reality shows. What they need, if they are going to do reality, is a show that focuses on a child who is struggling in school that got assistance & is trying to better him or herself despite the problems they may be experiencing at home. IMO

Comment: My only take on it is this, Why is it that when brothers choose to date white women or white women choose to date black men, the slave/ancestor loop is never regurgitated like it is in reverse? Why is it only a problem when you see a sista with a white man. What is the difference? Its way more common to find a brother with another these days and yet you often hear brothers complaining when a sista chooses to date a white man? Why do black women feel like we always have to be obligated to say we prefer our own? Of course we do, but there are slimmer pickings for sisters out there, this is not fictional, otherwise there wouldn't be so many single black women. Give me a break.
VH1 is surely circling the drain with their programming but if Flav can have his show, why not in reverse? If fools watch it, it ain't gone stop.

If Black men date white women then WHO are the Queens? The same can be said, we can't focus on old school chauvinistic mentalities, we have to deal in the now. Some brothers have already made it known that they will worship white women or any others just as soon as a sista so we can't put this all on the white man. The quickest way to not worry about the social norms and all that you state is for brothers to bring their black azzes back home. Until that time they better get over it because more and more black women are deciding they are tired of being alone and by themselves. Fortunately its not the case for me, but it is for far too many of my sisters.

Comment: It will be intersting to see the quality of women that will be on the VH1 show. Will they be real women or the Flava Flav types? The whole concept of the show is flawed. Maybe a better reality show would be about blacks and whites with the same qualifications applying and interviewing for the same jobs and showing the VH1 audience how much progress has been made, but that might be too enlightening.

Comment: No Khufu, your take is the narrow one here. I was not posting to say you were hypocritical, I totally get your analysis of this however, history is being made today. Today, black men are choosing others, not all of course, but a large number. So, if you are not concerned about your sisters being by themselves, then they are not your sisters. And you are not concerned about all of these single female-headed households. And you are not concerned about the diminishing number of ethnically black babies being born and so on. The world is composed of men and women. The issue I take with your analysis is that it comes from the mindset a man would have. Women are not properties to be owned. They are part of the unity of God's light. We are of the same breath. Just because in our more recent history Men have told the story and taken power from others doesn't mean that is how it always was or always will be. We have to look at today and what black men can do in particular, and black women can do in general to get our people on track. If you are only concerned with what the white man is doing, you are not fighting a full battle.

Now she did play the wife of black Charles S. Dutton in 2003's Gothika, but technically, she starred opposite yt Robert Downey Jr. I had to back TEN years to Why Do Fools Fall In Love... but then that was a "black" movie. 1997's B*A*P*S...another "black" movie. There was 1995's Losing Isaiah where she pas paired up with Cuba Gooding Jr... But you definitely got me on that one. Personally, I think she's powerful enough to say "hey, gimme a brother..." I wouldn't mind seein' her and Cuba together again, but hey.

I just want it to be known I leaked the story about vh1 turning down this reality show “Interracial Love”. A close friend of mine works in the New Development Department of VH1 she told me that vh1 had interest in this show until they found out that it would be showing educated Black Women. Once they received the Treatment for the show and show that this would not be a ghetto minded show they turned it down. I was also told that vh1 said this “White America can only see black women as guetto having educated Black women on this show will not sell. How is it that a white man sitting behind a desk tell us black people what we can and can’t watch. I am so tired of networks like this making a joke out of black women. Is it not true that all their shows about black women are type casted as ghetto? I think vh1 finally got their hand caught in the cookie jar. I am glad my friend told me what happened with this show. It is very funny to me what white people say and thing behind closed doors.

Comment: My problem with this show is more with the premise than the interracial dating. This show isn't necessary, just like all the other "reality" shows. Why Flavor Of Love is still on the air, I have no idea. I'm willing to wager that the women are going to be just like the people on Flavor Of Love. I have nothing against interracial dating, but if love is blind (and it should be), why would a person's ethnic background matter? I think people who have "preferences" of the opposite sex of another race have that preference not because of love. It's because of stereotypes and media's portrayal of a certain group of people. And there is so much more to some blacks dating outside their race than love and lust, as pointed out by people like MER82. And, forgive me if I'm "living in the past" (rolls eyes), but it does remind me of the slave auction block, where white guys would literally buy black females and males. As for me, I won't watch the show, along with Flavor Of Love and every other "reality" show. Personally, I don't have a preference. I like ALL women. Love is blind, right?

Comment: First of all, khufu, it's not right to make accusations, especially if they're false. I don't think Maqueen is making excuses for black women who are willing to sacrifice their integrity and dignity for fame and money. I, a 21-year-old black man, think she makes some good points. How can you attack black women who sell their souls for 15 minutes of fame while not attacking black men who beat their wives/girlfriends, make babies and don't take care of them, kill other black men and sell drugs? I attack both parties because they're both at fault for continuing the destruction of our people. Let's be honest, without black women, there will be no black people. And without responsible black men to lead the way to greatness, we will forever be disillusioned. Just look at the amount of black girls that are having sex and getting an STD. Of course, the mother should have taught the girl self-respect. But, without a good, strong, black male role model, the girl will crave attention for the wrong reasons from bad guys. I, too, can't believe some black women are willing to sell their souls to the devil for fame and money, no matter what the man looks like. I apply that logic to Flavor Of Love. However, the black men cannot keep bashing good black women over and over again.
