He lied under oath that "I did not have sex with that woman....NEVER!" (Sound Familiar) and they have those "booty call text messages". Now, he resorts to using the "race card" to gain sympathy in Detroit. That makes it bad for us when racism truly raises its ugly head and we need Kwame's card and its all used up. I ain't judging him, because I don't walk on water, but if you make your bed hard then you gotta sleep in it with or without the "race card".

Comment: I would feel bad for him but I remember people calling him the party mayor at the time he was elected. I chose to focus on the fact that he was the youngest mayor, black or white. Another coup for us right?! Kwame knew going in that Detroit had problems and while he has done some good - this situation has all but overshadowed the majority of it. He knew that we have to work twice as hard to get there and stay there. It doesn't stop there either because I can only imagine how voters who truly supported him feel and his family? his wife? damn, the kids! Comment: Mayor Kilpatrick probably deserves some jail time, as he KNOWINGLY lied under oath, knowing how our government view such offense. And he definitely should retire from office, he's brought more ridicule to a city that already has its fair share. But this attack is a bit much. The context in which he used should not have been offensive to anyone, he was merely telling a story. Thats tantamount to when a child is telling his parents a story about what someone called him and he gets a pass for saying it to his parents b/c he's quoting it as opposed to using it.

Comment: Another silly activity as of late? This "burying" of the word ni-gg-a. I've never seen a people let one word have such control over them. Personally I associate the word with a certain set of behaviors as opposed to race, e.g., I know some white people to whom the term applies as well.

Comment: You all are assuming that he's telling the truth. People in Detroit aren't so upset over the use of the word, they are upset over him trying to make himself look like a victim and playing the race card. At this point KK as been caught in so many lies that there is no reason to believe anything he says. No, he shouldn't resign for the affair alone, but he should because of the lenght he has gone to cover up the affair. He has basically committed fraud against the city by deceiving the city council about the true nature of the settlement of the whistle blower lawsuit. The entire city legal department is now underfire because the city's lawyers, who job in is to represent the city, not just the mayor, hid documents from the city council then lied that such documents didn't exist. Now that those documents have been made public, KK was caught in more lies. Now the council has subpoenaed KK, Beatty, and the city lawyers to testify about the entire settlement issue. This is on top of the perjury investigation which as been expended to others involved. He's going to pull a lot of people down with him in this mess. Now, with some of his main supporters in the business community speaking out against him, other outstanding lawsuits against him, and the fact that this mess has already began to cost the city even more money such as when the Conference of Black Mayors just pulled out of Detroit and moved the conference to New Orleans, if KK really cared anything about the state of the city, he would step down.

As for the n-word, it's a racial slur that is attached to blacks, like kike is attached to Jewish people and chink is attached to Chinese people. No matter who uses it, it will always sting. And no, people who are poor or dumb are not niggers. And before somebody says "other people don't react to slurs," just take a look at the Jews. People from Michael Jackson to Jesse Jackson to Professor Griff of Public Enemy to Will Smith have been called anti-Semites because of using the k-word or saying something anti-Semitic, like when Jesse Jackson said "I'm tired of hearing about the Holocaust" back in 1984 when he was running for president. One more thing, words and images do have power. Countries have gone to war over them, people fall in love because of them and people fight over them. If a white person who has never been around blacks sees a rap musuc video of blacks shaking their butts and celebrating gangbanging, that will be their impression of blacks. Words and images are thoughts, without them we can't think. They convey concepts and ideas. They can also be funny, offend, be loving, etc.

Comment: I should have added earlier that I AGREE w/the idea of words/images conveying concepts/ideas AND they can be funny, offensive, etc. The question is how far we are willing to go to stop others from using words which can reasonably interpreted as unoffensive. Such as the case w/Kwame using the exact word he says he was called. Considering the context, I would doubt that ne1 was horrified or offended by him using %*$!(@ instead of n-word. I still think he needs to be pimp-slapped for participating in the funeral and THEN saying the word. It's like me running a anti-hip hop campaign, then vacationing w/the Ying yang twins..lol DOne, I understand ur concerns as we've addressed them b4. Again, if he is facing possible charges for doing nething other than what this and previous articles suggest, he should be outta there! Most blacks at some point probably have either used or been called a %*$!(@. Therefore, IMO it is not unbelievable that Kwame was called that. Maybe he was not. I couldn't even watch his state of the state because I feel similar to him as I do George Bush and that is...EVERYTHING THAT COMES OUT OF THEIR MOUTH IS A LIE!!! So if someone has been threatening him and/or his family no one really believes him because he lies so much (just like a doggone kid). And bottom line he brought this entire thing onto himself. He should not have lied about the party or once he lied he should have come forward with the truth. But now that 2 out of the 3 dancers at the party have been murdered (with similiar bullets that the police department uses and not used by a lot of criminals)in 2 totallly different states, come on now. He may not have prior knowledge of these hits but it makes everyone believe that this is the reason he could never admit the party because these women have both been murdered under suspicious circumstances. He's just so clueless, it's really, really sad.

Kwame, the charity that you started and run by your wife and other family members have raised over 500k for college schlorships, but only one kid have received a scholorships in two years. "Yall, just don't want black folk to have get an education" .................................and the list goes on.

If you were to catch someone redhanded stealing from your wallet, you not going to go around saying that they are innocent until proven guilty. That's nothing more than a legal technicality. If you were to press charges against the person stealing from you wallet, but for whatever reason they were to get off, you not going to say, oh well, I guess that mean they didn't do it. Proof of actions and being convicted of those actions are too different things. Yes, liers sometimes tells the truth, its like the boy who tried wolf, at some point there is not reason to believe him. Since his behavior follows a pattern whenever he does something stupid, there is no reason for me to believe that his family is being threaten. Folk in detroit aren't tripping over the N word, but over his pattern of making everything about race whenever he's caught in a lie. That is only the twist the national media is putting on the story.

Comment: Done- I don't even live there, but from what I've read in the Detroit Free press, there is no "if" anymore in regards to his wrongdoings. What's got me is those 2 strippers who have been murdered. I heard the 3rd is on the lam. Can you imagine- one day stripping at a party for some pocket change and then the next day, two of your friends have been killed and you're running for your life because your Mayor is trying to protect himself?

Comment: @McNasty, no the perjury charges have nothing to do with the affair but because he and Christine Beatty both denied that they fired the cops in the whistleblower trial (they said he was re-assigned) but the text messages show them talking about firing him (the internal affairs police officer)and that maybe they should have handled it differently. The officers in the whistleblower trial were all fired because they were investigating misconduct amongst his EPU (executive protection unit)i.e. padding timesheets, drunk driving that resulted in a car accident, illegal activities (not sure what specifically) at the Manoogian party etc.

It is written by a police officer (who had to take Kwame's administration to court when he was fired for starting this website a case which he won). If you ever get real bored read the deposition of former police officer Walt Harris. It's long but very interesting. He discusses Kwame's notorius womanizing, he also discusses an almost unbelievable vacation that the families of Christine Beatty (his chief of staff and mistress)and Kwame take (Christine her husband and kids, Kwame his wife and kids)and how they manage to hook-up sexually during this vacation.

Comment: DOne: You make excellent points. I'm not from Detroit but I have followed the KK story in online Detroit press for some time. More apparently irrefutable facts: After the $6 million jury verdict, the police officers and the City (mayor) met with a mediator and the mayor initially refused to settle. Then, once the cop's lawyer slides a sealed envelope with the text messages to the City's attorney, the attorney reaches the mayor at the airport and gets authority to settle for $8 million. Then there's a side deal calling for the destruction of the text messages that's hidden from the City Council and the press. So here is a city that can't afford even basic services shelling out $8M, $2M more than even the jury verdict, to cover up the mayor's indiscretions. This, along with the alleged mayoral stripper party, the first-lady-of-the-city's alleged beat-down of said alleged stripper, and two strippers' murders, make for a "life is stranger than fiction" situation. Where is Michael Clayton when you need him?
