Comment: and??? barack i understand you have to do what you must but there is no appeasing these people. next thing you know they will try to have you denounce your wife for the things she wrote in her thesis. they are scraping the bottom of the barrel to find something when there is nothing. they tell us to be law abiding, get a good education and you can be anything you want. barack has done this and this is the reward. oh america how i love thee.

Comment: naturalsister: I agree it's not fair but he really had no choice given the level of venom in the pastor's speech. And it's really not personal to him. By that I mean they excoriated the multiple-purple hearted John Kerry on HIS patriotism and Kerry was extensively criticized after the fact for not speaking out more forcefully. Sadly, if Obama wins the nomination, it will get exponentially worse. How tragic for the democratic process that we can't remain focused on the issues.

Comment: Pastor Wright is CORRECT on a lot of what he said! But the American media will try to get Barack Obama any way they can. Racism is alive and well in this country, so they will go down that path. Wright is speaking the truth, but America's not ready for it. And now comes the playing on people part of this game to ensure that Obama doesn't win. We'll see how the bait works...

Comment: i agree with pastor wright and if his church was in so. cali i would there. but that's alright because we need to say what president elect barack obama cannot say. rev. otis moses III did just that on anderson cooper tonite. obama can't say it but we can tell all those who think the path to leader of one of the free worlds is throught mud, slime and muck to kiss our azzez because you will not pick who we associate with. GO OBAMA, WE HAVE YOUR BACK!

Comment: Thank goodness OB dumped him - unfortunately, the closer we get to November, all of the radical wacko's are coming out of the dungeon from all ethnic groups; they realize that history is about to be made.

Comment: While I believe that what Senator Obama's pastor said is correct, I also feel that his remarks are ones that white America will never acknowledge even if they know in their hearts that what he says is true. Any time they are forced to look at themselves in the mirror, their sense of entitlement, superiority and privilege always tends to win out, and then they indignantly disparage the messenger. Unfortunately, Rev. Wright's remarks, so closely on the heels of the media uproar regarding Minister Louis Farrakhan, are so imflammatory that it could sway many voters to withdraw their support for Obama; particularly when we are continually fed all the footage they can find on Rev. Wright, nonstop. And at the bottom of all this... Hilary and Bill. Each day, we get to see a "new low" for the Clintons because it is their aim to win at all costs, with no concern as to how it will reflect on her, in the outcome. Their behavior and character are despicable and Rev. Wright was 'sho-nuff' right about Hilary's Black supporters when he said, "Black folks just don't get it!." We've got to stay prayed up on behalf of Senator Obama because, given the nature of a blood-thirsty and rabid media, it's going to get far worse before it gets better! Mark my word!

Comment: Bill and Hilliary (Billiary) are behind this smear campaign against OB. I never took to this notion that Bill was OUR first Black President a la Toni Morrison. I just have images in my mind of a MILLION TUTSIS being hacked to death by jealous azz HUTUS in Rwanda and knowing that Clinton could have saved a MILLION AFRICANS had he not been so concerned with being politically correct. If Hillary wins this nomination I'm just gonna stay home and let McCain have it if he wants it. I could NEVER vote for that slimy snake and the shyt she done pulled on OB!!

Comment: Obama must denounce and reject Rev. Wright, but Hillary can simply disagree with Geraldine Ferraro? We can disagree without being disagreeable. There's no need to throw away 20 years of teaching and relationships because of sinister politics and Clinton jealousy. I am waiting for the day when the politics of white priviledge is over.

Comment: Good for Obama, He had to do it. All Men and Woman are created equal...Oh and HRC dumped Geraldine. Looking forward to the next Debates. Obama's Press release response was perfect.

Name: shulamite
Comment: This will badly damage Obama. But if the Dems give Hillary the nomination behind this, they will definitely lose the White House.

Comment: On another note, I generally find this troubling for my country. Nobody is stating the obvious: the image of him in the ethnic garb, the pejorative use of "Hussein", the "angry black pastor" footage - is really speaking to white American racism. I am so sad that Hillary would want to encourage people's most racist fears. We're no better than Kenya in that regard re Kibaki purposely stirring up tribalism just to get some votes. Shouldn't we - America - be better than that by now? She would destroy this country by pandering to deep seated racism just to score a nomination.

Comment: It's not the end of the World...keep your head up...Obama did the right thing. O is not responsible for his loose-cannon Pastor.

Name: kwrob
Comment: I understand politically that Barack has to distance himself from people who make these kinds of statements, but basically I don't see where the right Reverand was wrong in what he said. His comments are not unlike the ones Malcolm X said back in the 60's whe he said the chickens have come home to roost. Plus, this is a former Marine, so I'm sure he's seen the mess from the United States goverment up close.

Comment: TRTR thank you for your post earlier in the column. "Loose Cannon"? exactly where should a proper clergy man in these days and times. The loose cannons that I hear about are screwing over the congregations with their get rich schemes, and prayer cloths.(Getting them rich quick) The whole election is too far off point at this time. Back to what really matters; if any body remembers.

Comment: This is sad indeed, but Obama's gotta do what he's gotta do to have a chance at winning. Dumping the "right Rev. Wright" was necessary. Just as Hillary shouldn't be held responsible for what Geraldine said, Obama shouldn't be held responsible for what Wright said. But sadly, that's the nature of the beast called politics. Anyone you are or have been associated with becomes fair game, and their words/actions reflect upon you. It sucks, but that's the reality. By the way, I do not believe that Hillary had anything to do with this. She's still reeling from the Geraldine fallout, and the last thing she needs is to be in the center of more racial strife. You can best believe that it's the far right Republicans and their sympathizers that are behind this. And if Obama survives this and gets the nomination, then this is just the tip of the iceberg. They have more vicious tricks up their sleeves that they are waiting to unleash at the "right" time.

Comment: I pray this is only another test from God regarding our true committment to support Obama. I hope with all my heart that remarks made years ago do not destroy Obama's political wise.

Comment: I agree with many of the comments posted above. I also agree that the truth that this minister preached cannot in all truth be called a lie. History bears the truth of exactly what he is saying. First they tried to get Barack on Farrakhan and that didn't work cuz Barack handled it so well, now they are trying to get him on this minister's words. I too am actually sick and tired of having white folks tell black people who their friends and enemies should be. We are now in 2008 going on 2009 and they still feel they can dictate to us who we should "categorically reject" and "denounce" and who we should befriend just so we can do what? Participate in "their thing"? It's so hypocritical because Lawd knows if the truth was really told these white folks out here in positions of influence and power got associates, business partners, backers, you name it and more that would make Barack's minister look like a lightweight when u compare it all together. I also agree with the earlier post that Barack needs to be careful rejecting and denouncing every damn thing these white folks are bringing up, It totally makes no sense. Sister, you are right before its all said and done they gonna make the brotha denounce his wife, his Momma, his Daddy, his Grandparents on all side and all his ancestors. Barack, be careful while they playin this game on you brotha!

Comment: Rev. Wright is aware and has stated Barack would have to distance himself from him. We here are all aware of that fact as well.

Name: Train
Comment: I'm trying to figure out what the big deal was. Hell, Rev. Wright was right on all counts.

Name: dcdouglass01
Comment: Because white America is so ashamed of its racial past, it has tried many ways of simply sweeping it under the rug: the "let bygones be bygones" approach; getting mad at Black people for bringing it up (blame the victim); pretending it (slavery, lynching, discrimination, etc.) never happened, etc. And these excerpts from Rev. Wright, Obama's spiritual leader, would provoke a conversation too honest and stark for white people to handle. So to avoid it, they'll now sweep Obama under the rug. Well it was fun while it lasted.

Name: duckapoo
Comment: Rev. Wright is a wonderful pastor who has seen alot in this world. What he speaks is the truth and some white people cannot handle it. I am so tired of white people telling us what we should think, who we should follow and how we should feel. This is dirty politics at its lowest. Obama is so wise that I am sure he will not be manipulated into betraying himself. He could do alot worse than have a minister who speaks the truth. I know in my heart that Obama will choose the right road.

Comment: This site is really starting to get on my nerves with this Editorial Opinion. However before writing this drivel why don't the "Reporters" for this site delve into exactly who Reverend Jeremiah Wright is and what he has done over 50 years. I hear and read only soundbites and clips and not context or content.

Comment: Just great!! See? we're doing it to ouurselves again!! I hope he cuts out that greasy looking, processes hair wearing farakan as well.

Name: PRDC
Comment: Looking for anything...can't find nothing onhim...so what's next...people you know...I pray he will be OK...I know he will as long as he keeps God first with him to kill the demons...always want blacks to distance themselves from their people...No way
