Comment: I think the conversation being planned at that Summit next month is right on time. I especially appreciated Sharpton's last statement in this piece: "we protect the history of the pulpit in being a place that is free to speak truth to power but also by being careful to lead to healing and not to further exacerbation of those situations we seek to resolve." Right on. I'm surprised at the measured tone, I must say, it's refreshing to see some political savvy Rev. Perhaps you're growing...

Comment: Rev. Sharpton is actually an immersely intelligent man, and his commentaries are often well structured and well-versed. The problem often times is his delivery. Fact is, he is more beneficial to the cause of racial unity than people give him credit for.

Comment: I like Rev. Al. I like Farrakhan. But I do believe that they are hurting Obama. The media is already afraid of black militanism. Farrakhan and Rev. Al, being the public figures they are with very strong racial stances, are drawing attention away from Obama's positivity. They are making the Obama campaign go on the defensive having to explain on every major network how the feel about being endorsed by these men. Obama is having to "repudiate" men and organizations who have legal rights to vote but because of strong racial stances have drawn the negative stigma of the press. It's putting our boy Obama in a very tight and tense situation. I think that Obama should say he's trying to be president and will accept support from anyone who wishes to join his campaign. He should say "I will be president. Not Minister Farrakhan or Rev. Sharpton." Of course that's not enough. I watched Hannity and Colmes speaking to an black Islamic group leader last night and they wouldn't even allow him to answer their questions. They tickered acroos the bottom of the screen some of the radical statements this guy had made before such as creating a new country only for African Americans, reparations, etc. This type propaganda is extremely harmful to Obama's campaign if these men are going to be in the public's eye...

Comment: Mo, thank you for posting the info about Sharpton, the NAACP and the Dunbar Village case. I am stunned that they are standing up for these (alleged, tongue in cheek) criminals, rather than as-sisting this woman and her child. Black folks can't just criticize white folks when they do something wrong against us, we also must denounce our own folks when they victimize us. Please keep us posted on this situation; I haven't heard anything recently in the mainstream media about the case.

Comment: Mo he was a criminal - clown I won't touch. We never allow for growth and he moreso than Jesse Jackson has seemed to settle into the role of helping amerikkka understand exactly what it is we're trying to do in the black community. What we work for we all have to participate and the man does have the ability to bring numbers from all walks of life - it's time for us to let his past be just that - his past. I love what he said here, I heard him on the tjms the other morning and I can't help but think that because there was a camera in the pulpit we allowed the media to do what they've always done - distort the message and give it a name other than a sermon. I also think we do ourselves a disservice by feeding into the bullshat about any one of them being able to harm Obama's campaign. Rather than following suit and contining to try to as.sociate someone's personal life or thoughts with this man's campaign - how about take Obama at his word and his alone. These conversations just show how ridiculous people are willing to be for the sake of having a point - that's it and that's all!

Comment: Sexee whether or not they lay low the enemy has already shown it's willingness to make up, embellish or distort situations anyway. The worst thing we can do is feed into it. Neither of these men have publicly come out in support of Obama but whether they do or not black folks shouldn't be doing the tuck and roll - thats what they want us to do (thinking we must be puppets) and all things considered - I think all of them should just go to hell!
