Comment: That's pretty fuckked. Bob Marley is my favorite singer of all time (in any genre). I look forward to both documentaries. How the fuckk are you going to have a Bob Marley documentary without homey's music? That's like watching a porno without a pop shot. Makes no sense!

Comment: Steve Bing wait? I can definitely see that. Martin Scorsese wait? I don't think so. Rita Marley knew dang well that if Marty wanted to make a movie about Bob (just like he did with the Rolling Stones) that the music is a given. If Martin Scorsese knew that the music rights would not be available (for additional costs) when the Weinstein company bought the book rights -- they WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT THE BOOK RIGHTS. This family is infamous for jumping the gun. Firt they wanted to sue the record company...but when told if they sued, the marketing for the anniversary project would be withheld they backed off. The project didn't get a lot of marketing. It's really a shame because Bob Marley is a very interesting story (and not just all the baby mamas part) He really accomplished quite a bit during his short life. This family is right up there with the King kids....makes me wonder, what is the Bing project based on (can't be Rita's Book) perhaps it's the book by Timothy White which is why the family wasn't involved in that deal beyond Estate licensing. Such a shame

Comment: i do not blame them(Marley family) it would be great to have his music along with the story but if you purchase some as a deal & left out a big key part, we must go back to the table to negotiate...his music is what made him successfuly & also brought reggae to a global market & still love by many ! Once again i have my latest reggae mix cd out, titled "Royal Roots", if you appreciate Marley you will certainly love the latest of the new Rasta breed on the tracks, such as Jah Cure, Sizzla, Natural Black & many more, just hit me on email with your info : rawblendmusic@hotmail.com..put in subject "REGGAE MIX"

Comment: Kulchaman> this isn't a case of not knowing they have to pay more for the music Scorsese is a veteran filmaker -- he knows the deal. This is a case of not TELLING scorsese when Rita sold the book rights that the music was not available because of another project -- the family knows that the Scorses project will undoubtedly be better received in the film industry than anything Steve Bing creates. It's like comparing the Damon Dash documentary "Mr Untouchable" to the Ridley Scott period piece "American Gangster" and giving Damon Dash's documentary all the meat -- leaving the bones for Scorsese and the Weinstein brothers....and on another note (I'm jut kidding so don't get mad...you don't blame the Marley family -- I just wonder are you paying royalties on your mixtapes to the songwriters........don't they deserve to get paid for what they create?)

Comment: Teigh, i see the mix-up in the story, true thing...now concerning my mix cd, royalties ??? well it works this way in music business, if you giving something away free, it's promo ! the purpose to draw interest in artist work, DJs get lots of free or advance music, actually we have paid fees into a 'record pool' to promote artists but "reggae world" works totally different, for instance, no artist has such a standard to follow when its comes to their obligation to any label.

Comment: Another article written in such a way that it is hard to follow. From what I understand, Scorsese is doing the doc film that is allowed to feature the music and the other dude is doing the fact-BASED film that is not able to use the music. A film w/o the music ain't gonna work. But my thing is this - both can work and both can be successful. I could see if they were both fact-based films and not docs but this happens all the time. Example - I've seen "Mommy Dearest" and I've seen docs/biographies of Joan Crawford. One doc was done on TMC, the other on A&E. Both were great. Both were different, done from different points of view. One made her look like a monster like the movie, the other made her look more human. The movie was so over the top that I love to watch it because it's comical and it's a revenge movie written from the daughter's point of view who didn't get an inheritance. So, all of that said, I don't get why there is drama when they are 2 very different projects. But that's me...and EUR needs to write their stories better.

Comment: Kulchaman...really I was just pulling your leg because I know you're not but basically what you're doing is copyright infringement. The fee for the record pool is to get advance music -- generally that's for DJ's and radio. I work in music publishing and bootlegging has severely crippled the industry yet no one ever considers that when we do this we are basically stealing from each other -- doesn't really happen in most other genres (and I mean Rap, R&B and reggae -- you don't see Frank Sinatra on a homemade CD) And keep in mind that the artist and the songwriter are not always one & the same. I guess you gotta eat too but consider how you would feel if when you got to your job someone else was sitting there...and they decided to do it for free...and your employee decided that they were cheaper! It took years for the Marley family to get control of his music, yet there still seems to be a split in how it's licensed because an internal conversation could have prevented all this.

Comment: and I take it all the artist on your mix tape are not signed to labels meaning their music isn't sold in stores...if it is...then that's bootlegging -- don't care how you slice it up and serve it. Advance copies are given to radio, DJ's, press, and tastemakers -- not to make copies and give them away but to create buzz by playing it, talking about it or writing about it.

Comment: This is a clear cut one. Ziggy has all the juice. He has Scorsese. He has Bing. He has a support group of various investors. And, he has Marley music. Sounds like they want to squash Rita's project. Rita is the thorn in their flesh. They will not jeopardize their investment on the Scorsese side. So, bet that Rita's project will either never see the light of day or, it will have someone else's music. What is curious about all of this is the family division. Are these not Rita's sons??? And how did a SON get more juice than the wife regarding the estate???

Comment: Teigh....I totally agree. I use to work in the music industry as well (lost my job due to bootlegging) and I preach the same thing to everyone I know, meet, etc. People just don't understand the consequences of their actions or they don't care, unless it personally hits home for them. The reason why music is so watered down these days, is because of the lack of people behind the scenes to get a quality product on the shelf. Most records lables have laid off masses, closed thier doors, merged and/or have enlisted free help from a countless amount of street teams and interns to get the job done...SAD.
