But Sean Levert...wow. WTH is going on? I was wondering WTH he was doing in jail and found this snippet:
"Sean Levert, son of O'Jays lead singer Eddie Levert, was found dead in a Cleveland, Ohio, jail over the weekend, sources said.
Sean Levert, 39, was being held for allegedly failing to pay about $80,000 in child support. The cause of death was not immediately known.
Sean Levert was a member of the R&B group LeVert with his late brother Gerald Levert and Marc Gordon. Gerald Levert died Nov. 10, 2006 at the age of 40.
Sean Levert had recently completed an album with Gordon, sources said.
Sean Levert appeared in the movies Dope Case Pending (2000) and New Jack City (1991)."

While I'm not about to excuse ducking child support--even in death--I feel badly for his family. And I look forward to a full investigation, because there are A LOT of unanswered questions.

Anyway the reports are saying that he died of natural causes and I am saying 39 year olds don't die of 'natural causes'! Gone too soon . . . . my sincerest condolences to his family. The wounds that were healing will open up ten fold now!

Comment: Co-sign andryce. IMO this is not newsworthy IN THE LEAST. This is a case of dumb college students doing dumb things in bad taste. The fact that they were in blackface (while O is khaki colored) and they wore an afro wig further indicates to me, that this was something simply done in bad taste. I am disappointed that EUR picked up this story and ran it. This is yet another item intended to distract. This is getting old.

And it is tasteless to hold this type of ignorant event to raise money for diabetes foundation. Some white kids have absolutely no common sense or decency, and it's quadrupled when they get drunk. Comment: MsVanese, I just heard (over XM radio, Channel 62) that, yes, Sean died last night a little before midnight. As far as this racist skit goes, it's par for the course for Obama. Part of the reason I want to see an Obama/McCain race is so that America (and the world) can see, up close and personal, just how far it has yet to go to get beyond this cancer called racism.

Comment: This is the problem that so many would swear is no longer a problem. The students responsible should be punished but punishment is NOT enought. There should be a mandatory orientation for all the students addressing the history of black face in America. You could even throw in college credit if you want but it must be mandatory for all students to attend. While your at it there needs to be a mandatory orientation addressing the history of lynching in America.

Comment: *off-subject*. As far as Sean Levert's death while in jail for failure to pay child support goes, I've never understood that logic. What's he going to do while in jail? Sh*t out some child support dollars? I say federalize this child support issue, with automatic garnishment of a set percentage of the gross wages. Now of course in Sean's case, given that he was an entertainer, he most likely dealt with the taxes on the back end. Still, jailing a person (and in the process perhaps causing them to lose their job), while satisfying to the "serves them right" crowd, is counter-productive.

But you know he using the tactics of his ancestors to draw as much attention to himself that he could. And I don't get the guys playing Brokeback Mountain either. Comment: Yes, YT should "get it" re racism issues, but WE need to understand that they don't. The reality is that race issues are easily in the top 3 issues that black folks spend time thinking about. For whites - it's waaaaaaaaaay down the list. For most, race simply doesn't register and when the Rev. Wright's of the world go off like they do, YT is mystified. I think dcdouglas is right when he said that the true test of America's character will come when Barack is president. I suspect that, for white folks, race will immediately go to the top 5 of things they grapple with. It si very hard for people to wrap their minds around looking a a black man as president. For that, I can't wait.
