Comment: DAMN! What is going on? I think stress of jail cause high anxiety which must've lead to a stroke/heart attack.

Comment: What a tragic way to go. I agree with Mas90 and kwrob. Jail time had to have put an incredible strain on him. R.I.P. Sean.

Comment: I am very sad for the Levert family. I was one of those posted last week who did NOT show sympathy towards Sean's predicament (about being jailed for non-payment of child support). That was clearly his fault. However, Eddie and Martha Levert have been dealt a double blow in losing another child; they truly do not deserve this. I offer my condolences to them and the rest of their family (Sean's kids included).

Comment: R.I.P. Sean.

Comment: I agree with Ms. Benny. It must be awful for a parent to have to bury both sons before themselves. RIP Shawn.

Name: McNasty
Comment: I agree Mas90 not with the stress of jail, but with stress in general. That and I'm sure with him being a big boy he wasn't paying attention to a healthy diet. No matter he is still gone too soon. His kids and Gerald's kids, their parents and siblings to all I extend my sincerest condolences.

Comment: Not to preach but this should show all of us just how precious life is and how precious little time we have to live it. It is for all of us to work to be the best people we can, to say whatever needs to be said at the time you think of it because once the moment has pas.sed, it is gone forever. We all work for money which pas.ses through our hands like water and can be obtained again over and above what we had before. Time is not like that - once spent it is gone forever. Do what ever is necessary to make your time count and don' wait till someone is going or gone to express your feelings.

Comment: I heard about Sean's passing on Tom Joyner's show this morning and I was shocked and stunned. I just heard Walter Williams and Eric Nolan of the O'Jay's on Michael Baisden's Show on Friday. Eddie wasn't there and since I missed the beginning of the show, I didn't know where Eddie was. My heartfelt condolences go out to the LeVert family. To lose two son's in the prime of life has got to be hard to bare. Rest in Peace, Sean!!!

Comment: My god.... So sad so sad

Name: Mas90
Comment: Calidee... you must be white {gee gads} just speculating :-)

Name: Mas90
Comment: 6foot... that's not a generation curse. The Kennedys were a curse. Sean and Gerald did not exercise daily. Both of them were over weight and they knew it. Curse is something you have no control over. They could lift some weights and together. Why not work out with your brother? I'm sure they were close.

Name: ladybyrd
Comment: Did they say that he died from an unhealthy diet? I didn't read that, but I do find it disturbing that a 39 year old die of natural causes. I wonder what is the real cause. US has people bigger than Sean walking around here with no problems. There are kids who are 100lbs over weight. I wonder if he has a pre-existing condition of some sort. This is really sad.

Name: ladybyrd
Comment: Mas90 > US is the fattest country. There are Millions who live on fast food and they do not exercise at all, forget daily. I wonder if he had a pre-existing condition. These are times were I wonder if the term "it was his time to go" applies.

Name: deedeeVon
Comment: > Mase - Don't forget the drugs and alchol.

Name: Southernbelle
Comment: "natural cause" is the term used for we don't really know. A 39 year old man should not die from "natural causes" I hope his parent's and/or wife does not accept this explanation at full value. I'm no conspiracy theorist but it does seem a little suspect that two brothers have died within two years of each other from no identifying reasons and under similar circumstances, i.e. healthy one day, dead the next.

Name: Angel
Comment: Since when do 39 year olds die of natural causes?! That don't even sound legit. My condolences to the family.

Name: letmein
Comment: Nothing natural about a man dying at 39.

Name: Angel
Comment: Sbelle- Wasn't it determined that Eddie ODed on a cocktail of medications -- like Heath Ledger?

Name: Mas90
Comment: Co-sign & thank you ANGEL! People wake up. Natural causes means dying without help from outside causes. He had to suffer from something the body could not handle anymore.

Name: Mas90
Comment: Gerald died not Eddie..... Gerald died from combinations of medicines that should not be taken together.

Name: Mas90
Comment: Ladybyrd.... Pre-existing... He was FAT! Hello? All of our bodies operate different. Some handle being unhealthy longer than others. Just like with smoking.... some develop cancer and some don't! Some die from cancer and some die from a combination of matters.

Name: Sexee
Comment: R.I.P., this is terrible news...

Name: RSmi
Comment: I just heard on the radio something (heart attack, stroke, etc.) possibly resulted from a panic attack he was experiencing. Let us not jump to conclusions regarding his weight possibly causing his demise. I remember everyone thinking the same thing about Gerald (that his weight attributed to his death). I never thought his death was due to a heart attack. After seeing the most recent pictures of Gerald and noticing the extreme weight gain I suspected something else was going on in his life. People who make their bread and butter from their physical image (and yes the women loved Gerald Levert not only for his singing but because he was the fine teddy bear) do not gain an unsual amount of weight in a short period of time (with the exclusion of a medical conditions or pregnancy) unless something else is going on in their life i.e depression, addiction, stress, etc. So don't jump to conclusions. How many black men do we know that went into a jail cell healty and never made it out. There is waaaay more to this story we just have to be patient to find out.

Name: Southernbelle
Comment: Angel, yeah that's what's been posted. I believed it up until Sean's death. Maybe if they come up with something other than "natural causes" I 'll be swayed but there's something not right about this. I have my doubts about Heath Ledger also with his rolled up twenty dollar bill laying next to his body.

Name: Sexee
Comment: GOD stated that men will begin to drop like flies. WE all need to put our house in order. Stress coupled with unhealthy eating habits will kill. Our foods today lack the nutritional value needed to sustain a healthy existence.

Name: Mas90
Comment: RSmi... Being over weight causes a strain on the body. Being overweight causes diabetes, high blood pressure, strokes, heart attack, high cholestrol, etc..... how is it that weight wasn't a factor when he freaked out from having to go to jail??????? His body was under too much stress at one time so it broke down.

Name: Taurusingr
Comment: AngieBee: I heard that interview also. Eddie was in the 1st part of the interview, but Michael said he accidently disconnected them ALL! Then he got Walter & Eric back, But I don't think Eddie returned! Maybe he got the news THEN!? But anyway you you look at this, It's a DAMN shame & A TRIP how these things happen!! I mean after so many years, out of nowhere, we heard about this brotha & the "support issue" last week, & NOW HE'S GONE!? R.I.P. Sean, & god be with Eddie & the rest of the family!

Name: JudgeJoanieInLA
Comment: No matter how much speculation is done about why this young man unexpectedly passed away, it does not negate the fact that his family is, undoubtedly, suffering a loss that many of us cannot possibly comprehend. To lose two sons less than 1-1/2 years apart has to inconceivably devastating and, for anyone to feel that this forum should be used to cast aspersions about how or why Sean Levert died, is simply wrong! And, Angel, no disrespect to you about your misinformation which stated EDDIE O.D'ed on a cocktail of medications... it was Eddie's son, GERALD, who passed away, and it would seem far more respectful to know the facts before hastily posting erroneous informaton. I believe that the best way we all can support the Levert family is through prayer, instead of gossiping and speculating about facts that have yet to be clarified.

Name: Kensbroh
Comment: For a father to bury two sons that passed away within 18 months of each other is devastating. I just found out by going on the Yahoo webpage. It stated that he had high blood pressure. Maybe that combined w/stress caused his body to stop. Who knows. I really feel for his kids.

Name: WhtHousePressSecIJA
Comment: I haven't read the other posts so forgive me if I am repeating something but...Why do they keep saying 'natural causes?' It's annoying. He probably died of a prescription drug problem like his brother (that IS what he died of right). I think it's crazy that you can stay on crack and cocaine FOREVER but die from prescription drugs straight away. I am speculating here, but everyone take note, be careful with the prescription stuff. Wasn't Sean just in the news a few days ago for nonpayment of child support?

Name: RSmi
Comment: @Mas90, Are you saying a this could not happen to a thin person??? Stress affects a thin person the same way it affects an overweight person. All I'm saying is let's just not jump to conclusions like people did with Gerald. Just because someone is overweight doesn't mean they're unhealthy.

Name: mydchomegirl
Comment: God bless the Levert the family at this very difficult time.

Name: Stephanie
Comment: This is really sad...this also leads me to believe that the Levert's must have a hidden genetic disorder that's related to heart disease. Usually when there is undetected heart disease, one will die of natural causes. Were Gerald and Sean Eddie's only children? Peace, comfort and blessings to the Family...

Name: Mas90
Comment: RSMI... No, because even a thin person can suffer from a disease called homocysteine which is a build up of amino acid in the blood stream and it causes clogging which leads to stroke/heart attack. To keep this from happening you eat fiber(vegetables/fruit daily) and excercise and your doctor might put you on 85mg aspirn everyday. This all comes back to excerising and eating healthy. You have to cut back on fast food.

Name: Mas90
Comment: Homocysteine is a heart disease that can be hereditary.

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: Wonder if he wasn't in jail for being a deadbeat dad (BABBY DADDY), would he have had the attack or whatever it was.

Name: Mas90
Comment: RSmi... you said' "Just because someone is overweight doesn't mean they're unhealthy." Are you serious? You sound very uneducated regarding weight being healthy. I don't know Gerald exact height but lets take the average male height of 5'10". The ideal weight for 5'10" men is 166 lbs. Gerald was over that no doubt. If you don't believe me ask your doctor or check this website. So of you aren't getting this. http://healthcare.utah.edu/healthtools/calculator/idea lWeightCal.cfm

Comment: Correction= So should be Some

Name: Southernbelle
Comment: JudgeJoanie>It's no disrespect to the Levert family. At least not on my part. I'm thinking more on the lines of what Stephanie posted. There must be some sort of birth defect in the family. It's not uncommon for two brothers to die closely together but the circumstances are so similar it's unreal. That is why I wish the family look deeper into both of these deaths. I'm more than sure there are other siblings and they need to know what's up. Patti LaBelle lost all of her sisters (I believe it was four of them) to cancer. All of Luther's siblings and father died from diabetes. I feel really bad for Sean's parents. It was reported that his mom took Gerald's death really hard. I just couldn't imagine what Sean's death will do to her.

Name: Taurusingr
Comment: Look "yall"....Things happen to people. Sometimes it's within their control, sometimes it's NOT! Sometimes it's to healthy people, sometimes it's to those who are NOT as healthy as others! But one thing HERE is for sure....NOBODY KNOWS why this brotha died yet!!! I for one , think DEATH should be handled differently than other topics! So, out of nothing more than RESPECT for the man & HIS FAMILY, can all the "EXPERTS" just......CHILL ??? Damn!!

Name: McNasty
Comment: You don't die of 'natural causes' at 39 nor was it 'his time'. Calidee speculation is another one of those things you can chalk up to human nature.

Comment: Judge says Levert had drug addiction, untreated high blood pressure. Posted by Donna J. Miller March 31, 2008 11:24AM. Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Nancy Margaret Russo said Sean Levert recently admitted to having a $50-a-day marijuana addiction. He said the habit began when he was 14. He also had high blood pressure and wasn't taking medication for it, Russo said in a telephone interview this morning. Levert died late Sunday in Lutheran Hospital, where he was taken after he became ill in the Cuyahoga County jail. An autopsy is being conducted today. A spokesman for the coroner's office said no "foul play or trauma" is suspected in Levert's death. Last Monday, Russo sentenced Levert, 39, to 22 months in prison for failing to pay nearly $90,000 to three children. The oldest child, Keith Potts, is an adult and in prison. Potts' mother, Robbie Cayson, 39, was arrested in February and charged with leading a criminal gang. Levert told Russo that the only medication he took was an occasional Xanax, which treats insomnia and anxiety. He tested positive for marijuana while out on bond on the child support charges. Court records show he had been convicted a half-dozen times of driving with a suspended license. He was convicted of being impaired while driving in 1993 and having an open beer can in his car in 1995, when he was also convicted of drug abuse. He successfully completed a two-year substance abuse treatment program. Russo declared Levert indigent so that his money would go toward child support instead of fines and court costs, she said.

Comment: Bottom line, this is TRAGIC. And, no matter how poor Sean died, just as when Gerald passed, it reminded me of how we need to take better care of ourselves as a people. Dr. Ian Smith has a marvelous initiative to help our people with weight related issues. www.50millionpounds.com. My deepest sympathy goes out to Eddie (sweetest person!!!) and his family. May God comfort you somehow in your time of sorrow. I cannot imagine the hurt you must be feeling. You are in my prayers.

Comment: JudgeJoanie - Get a grip! I meant Gerald and typed Eddie. Everybody but you got that.

Comment: Mas90 is correct. Listen up, folk who don't know: BEING OVERWEIGHT IS UNHEALTHY AND DANGEROUS TO YOUR HEALTH. Believing otherwise is OLD-FASHIONED and OUTDATED. We have more information than previous generations had on this subject. I saw somewhere that Sean Levert had high blood pressure. I believe this runs in their family. My mother, at 5 feet tall, and around 300 lbs., passed away from hypertensive cardiovascular disease (high blood pressure), at age 56.

Name: gjohn510
Comment: After reading what Jacque posted, I'm even more disturbed hearing that this young man was addicted to drugs and basically broke coming from a hard working family! Declaring him indigent is not an adjective I would think I would hear when speaking of any of the Levert's. McNasty, you're 100% correct about how precious time is! BTW, I'm young and a former Olympic Athlete who is only 13lbs overweight and I just had a heart attack while vacationing in Hawaii during the NFL Pro Bowl week in Feb. Stress was the culprit, so anyone can be dropped to their knee's with too much of this so-called life! R.I.P. Sean!

Name: ladybyrd
Comment: His brother Gerald Levert, who had success as a solo artist after leaving their trio died in 2006 at age 40 of an accidental mix of prescription and over-the-counter drugs. The brothers had formed LeVert in the 1980s with childhood friend Marc Gordon. Their hits included "Baby I'm Ready," "(Pop, Pop, Pop, Pop) Goes My Mind" and "Casanova." "Casanova" was nominated for a Grammy in 1988 for best R&B performance by a duo or group with vocal. It was also nominated for best R&B song. At Gerald Levert's funeral service in November 2006, Sean Levert and his father performed "Dance With My Father" and personalized the words for Gerald. The elder Levert's group, the O'Jays, was known for such smash hits as "Back Stabbers" and "Love Train." Sean Levert found a new third partner last year and was trying to revive LeVert. An autopsy was done Monday but no immediate cause of death was determined, according to Powell Caesar, a spokesman for the Cuyahoga County's coroner's office, but he said there was no evidence of foul play or trauma. Levert suffered from high blood pressure and had been hallucinating in jail, Caesar said. Toxicology reports could take four to six weeks, he said. Warden Kevin McDonough said earlier that Levert had been sick and guards were watching him at the jail's regular cellblock because he had been acting strangely. Sean Levert had pleaded guilty last week to six counts of nonsupport involving children ages 11, 15 and 17.

Comment: What a sad time for the Levert family

Name: TAZBABY
Comment: Just heartbreaking! RIP Sean Levert and my prayers to his Mom, Dad and the rest of his family and friends. This is just so sad.

Name: nylaconnect
Comment: First I would like to send my heartfelt condolences to the family of Sean Levert.Strangely enough last night I was thinking how sad for Eddie Levert,he lost one of his sons due to death and now he has lost another son temporarily to prison. Then this afternoon at work I heard that he had passed. The second thing that came to mind after thinking damn I was just thinking about him was the posts that some people made about this man on Friday. It was horrible, just horrible.Calling him all kind of foul names.i wish I had followed my first mind and wrote then.I didn't because I felt some of the bitterness came from women who had to deal with absentee fathers and from others whose fathers werem't a part of their lives and that's where the anger came from. I also thought about Sean and how maybe one of the reasons behind his problem was the death of Gerald, maybe he was depressed about that.I know that since the death of my best friend, who was my brother,I haven't been the same,so I gave Sean that. In essence broters and sisters,we need to show more compassion to each other, because go and look for yourselves that was some foul stuff written about our brother, who all we know how money problems. He hadn't killed anyone, molested anyone but the venom toward him was intense, over the top and now he's gone.

Name: nylaconnect
Comment: Should be for all we know HAD money problems.(one of a few errors and I thought I proofread it,obviously not well enough).

Comment: What a shame. Too sad. My prayers go out to Eddie and Martha. They have another child to bury. May God's strength be a help at this time.
