Comment: I remember when we used to have the TJMS here in L.A. a few years ago and it was first announced that Obama was running for president, Tavis was not in support of him back then - right from the beginning - I wish Tom Joyner would air that tape from that morning then when Tavis was in the first stages of airing his grievances against Obama - I just don't think Tavis believes in Obama - or a black president.

Comment: Najee, excellent article. You spoke the truth. Homerun indeed. If ever you decide to run for president, you have my vote. Thanks bruh!

Comment: G'mornin'MsBlake: I'll love Tavis Smiley like I love that poisonous king cobra that's coiled up in my kitchen ready to strike me or that kkk klansmen smiling wickedly with a rope in his hand ready to loop it around my neck or that vicious child molester waiting to abduct an innocent child or that Unka-Tom, sell-out tribesman directing the Portuguese slavemongers to my village.........get my drift? How can you love anybody whose "soul purpose" is to DESTROY your dream? Tavis needs to get clinical help like yestiday!!!

Comment: I use to turn up my radio when Tavis would come on but his incessant rants against Barack Obama were becoming insulting and his ego driven commentaries to Black people as if we were idiots enraged me. After the way Tom treated J. Anthony Brown this morning i'm thru with his azz too. Just because J. Anthony ain't whining and begging Tavis to come back you tell him to shut up and then kick him off the show..that was very disrespectful and make you look as childish as Tavis. How dare Tavis and you bemoan the e-mails, calls and letters telling Tavis what we think when he was the main one adovocating that when we disagreed with Congress, Senate or this present administration. Now that people are expressing their minds with him he nor you can take it so you both pout like children. I have no intention of listening to Tavis tomorrow "explain" his leaving this show. We are embarking on history and Tavis leaving this show is not going to defer my dream. Now on your show instead of talking about Obama you're begging Tavis so now he has what he wanted..everyone to talk about Tavis and not Obama..both of y'all need to grow up!! In my opinion Tavis missed a great opportunity to be a part of history.

Comment: Najee Ali, Here Here. Great piece! I don't think I ever thought of it that way--dream killing, but in many ways, you are so right. And in that sense, Tavis' antics are even more egregious. Shame on him for that...and also for trying to throw Black folks under the bus with him, lol, those who didn't speak his "love language" (read: kiss his arse, lol). His--and some of the pro-Clinton Black reps--painting Black folks as a simple, trite people incapable of handling dissent, so-called "threatening" them and such, just fuels the negative images "others" have of Blacks. So there's another reason Tavis is a busta, lol. Good guy I'm sure, smart no doubt, given a lot, absolutely, even very friendly in person, but too much EGO has tainted him and all his good works. It's a shame, but I'm sure he'll come around one day. *Sigh*

Comment: AMEN. Thanks for pointing out the Wal-Mart and AllState Insurance points that many have overlooked. I have also said in response to the ill advised whining he did about Obama not attending his conference on the STate of The Black Union, that I can't think of anything more important for the STate of the Black Union than to have a black man at the head of the Union. Duhhh. All of those big mouth, talk a lot, camera hogs should have cancelled that DAMN conference and picked up a change poster and hit the streets if you want my opinion. Further, Tavis is making it clear that his efforts are self-serving for the most part. He, like many, has gotten into the business of pimping our business. SAD SAD. Sounding like Reverend IKE used to sound hoodwinking my grandma into buying that prayer cloth under the guise of him caring so deeply for her soul. This spade is definitely a SPADE. Tavis, quit while you are ahead, you're LOSING. Is the position Hillary promised you and her company Wal-Mart's money really worth losing your base and lucrative career over. When those 90% voting for Barack stop listening to you, why would those companies pay you or Hillary need you. Guess you have more loyalty for her than the 90% of the base you are supposedly fighting for. Reminds me of that Cosby joke when the kid puts his hand in the cookie jar and then when caught, he says, I was getting this for you, Daddy. Well, the mothers and fathers of our race have stopped listenings and there are plenty other flagrant loud mouth know it all Negros out there hungry for a microphone. Think on it and REPENT.

Comment: Good ridden and bye....He got started and known fromt he OJ case now he want to be all of that...no no no...He has had several State of the Black Union...and to this day, what has come out of it. He has great speakers and that's about it. They won't listen to the ones that make sense, they just like talking year after year...Stop talking so much and start some action. I guess that's why BET got rid of him....so what Tavis you want to leave...well you brought it on yourself.

Name: McNasty
Comment: Not bad and one of the few times I actually agree with him totally. Perception is reality and thousands of us did perceive Tavis' remarks to be harmful. It was almist like he was intentionally being divisive which is what Sillary has been doing - first between the parties and now she's over here trying to mix it up in the black community. The last thing I need is for a white woman to try and tell me what a black man said - I can hear perfectly well with my own ears.

Comment: Men in the Barbershop need to look at their house first than check Tavis. I admit Tavis ego has gotten in the way.. But DO NOT TOSS this man aside.. We ALL smell ourselves once in awhile. He's been held accountable now let's move on to REAL ISSUES and that's stronger MEN presence in the schools....

Comment: Couldn't have said it any better myself. Thank you Najee! Love ya!

Name: MelodyCool
Comment: Tavis is only trying to make you folks "think"! Obama is not the messiah and people will not change their behavior because this "mortal" is running for President. Obama has no substance at all and people will soon know he's afraid to even acknowledge blacks for fear it will upset whites. It's unforgivable that he didn't attend the events in Memphis for Dr. King. Folks need to wake up before it too late.

Name: Winn30344
Comment: And neither is Tavis and i'm old enuff that I don't and have never needed Tavis to make me "think"!

Name: Tiedie
Comment: MelodyCool, did you attend the events in Memphis? I'm sure Dr. King would have much rather had Obama our "realizing" his dream, than to be sitting around with countless other who only wanted to gather to "remember" the dream for as long as the ceremonies lasted, before returning back to their respective states of doing absolutely nothing. Black people are intelligent enough to know this is not about a messiah or any other mystical figure appearing to take us to glory. It is about a moment in time that many thought they would never live to see. For once in our lifetime you see a black man in the news who's not on trial for killing his white wife and her gay white male friend (OJ). Nor is he the on the receiving end of a beat-down by the Los Angeles police department (Rodney King), who later ended up getting into more trouble anyway. We've found so many reasons to rally behind the wrong men, so now that we have one who just might make a difference,we find silly arse reasons to attack. My momma always said the biggest problem with our people is that we don't stick together. White people can be the worst of enemies, but they will band together against one of us. This election is proving that. And true to slavery, you always get the Black overseer on the plantation to beat the other slaves, just so they know "Massah" is in full control. Glad to know house %*$!(@ are still with us.

Comment: Bro Najee, Excellent response and article. I had questioned his corporate sponsorships particularly Allstate Insurance paid propaganda advertisments. This is also true of Tom Joyner's acceptance of the same or similar business interests.

Name: MelodyCool
Comment: Tiedie, you got it ALL wrong. No one group is monolithic and it's dangerous for us to try and censor any dissenting voices because some of you think Obama walks on water. Perhaps you don't see positive examples from your perch...but Obama in NOT the ONE! It will be business as usual whether this man makes it to the White House or not. It's SAD that one slickster has the black masses foaming at the mouth and ready to attack on sight anyone who doesn't share the same warped vision. I hope there isn't a riot in November. I feel nothing short of embarrassment the way blacks are behaving over Obama.

Name: Tiedie
Comment: Melody, this isn't about thinking the world is going to change if Barack becomes president. One man can't turn the tide of hatred, corruption, deceit, murder, and mistreatment of minorities that form the very foundation of the United States goverment. Ask the Indians and the Mexicans. Ask the Japanese citizens who were forced into concentration camps during WWI. Ask the Vietnamese when we went traipsing over there during the Vietnam War. Ask the Iraqi people with all those WMD that have never been found. Better yet, ask the parents of every child George Bush has murdered by sending them to fight a war so he can get more oil money. With such a rich history and record of outstanding service to the world at large, what would it hurt to have a chance to do something different? I don't know Obama personally, but I think he is as qualified as anyone else. We know McCain is only going to pick up where Bush left off. Hillary will continue lying about her so-called experience and tax records, which to mem you can't get any slicker than that. Of coure we should have an open mind when it comes to anybody, and yes, people are entitled to disagree openly and freely. My only problem is that in pointing out Obama's imperfections, you and others like you are implying that the others are perfect and above reproach. Are we supposed to just overlook them? Hillary was caught in a baldface lie about Bosnia, but she's a positive example? McCain flat out said he didn't care about the millions of American's losing their homes because of poor money management, AND admitted that he was not very sharp on the economic front, but you think that's a postive example? And above all else, how dare you insult the collective intelligence of the black masses to whom you refer by saying they are mindless shells with no capacity for critical thinking? You sound like them other people. Know what I mean?

Comment: As a Black Owned Businessman, who counts Wal-Mart as my largest client, I disagree about them being anti union. Unions have destroyed what little hope low and middle income workers have of advances, Hell, people need to do as I do, pay for your own health insurance. I worked for Obama when he ran for senate, and did not like the experience. I don't think Tavis is hating on the brother, and all Black folks don't have to like him. I am a John McCain man, but changed my registration to be able to vote for a Black candidate like Obama. I don't like him because he is a Black man, but because he seems to have some ideas that might work. Without Tavis, the TJMS is going to tank. I wish we could disagree without everyone taking things so personal. I know a lot of pro Black brothers who just don't like Obama, but that is the good thing about American, you can like who you want. Tavis, I still love you and appreciate all you do and have done. A lot of folks on our Blog just don't like him either. Political Black.com http://www.bigloo.wordpress.com When did we get to the point of deciding that soldiers are murdered? Soldiers fight war and we have been in wars all our lives in America. A soldier's job is to do as the commander in chief asks him, and our job is to vote a commander in chief out of office if we don't like his policies.

Name: Tiedie
Comment: grayeyesliu, you should have the courage to address me directly if you disagree with my statements. I am not of the mind that all Black people should vote for Obama, however, I do wish those of you who support Hillary or even John McCain, would just have the courage to say that? Why portray the rest of the black community as being incapable of making solid choices based on facts and issues rather than skin color? And what would you call a it when a war is declared and fought on an utter and complete lie, and yet we won't pull out, but rather force more soldiers to continue fighting? And as far as voting for a commander in chief, as I recall, the current administration stole that position as well. God bless the good ole U S of A where all men are equal!!

Comment: i have stayed out of this feud over Obama and his worthiness 4 pres. simply b-cuz we as a people can often be so skewed n our beliefs/thinking. but MELODYCOOL> i feel like i have 2 address what u wrote. n reading your comment it is no doubt we, Black people, have lost our Godly minds. your words epitomize the very psychology written about n the miseducation of the negro. what is wrong with black people being proud of Obama, being proud to support a Black Man they feel respectfully represents them. no Obama is not the great Black hope, but i don't perceive him to b duplicitist or dishonest. furthermore, he represents something of greatness 4 Black people and there is nothing wrong with that. if Black people can rally behind an actor n hopes of winning an academy award why not for ceo? yes many Blacks r voting 4 Obama b-cuz he's Black, but it's much deeper than JUST b-cuz he's Black. as Najee Ali wrote, he really does represent a "dream" 4 millions of Blacks. he's a qualified, dignified brother who millions of Blacks feel they can b proud of and ain't nothing wrong n acknowledging that.

Comment: Let's all hold up people. Najee Ali criticizing Tavis is like the pot calling the kettle black. On numerous occasions we have all read of rallies for causes that Najee Ali has held that many people on this board disagreed with. In fact, many people here on this EUR message board called Najee Ali "crazy" over and over. So, my point is, that even if we disagreed with some of Najee Ali's stances on issues, we still supported his right to voice his opinion and he was still considered our brother. We don't need to agree with Tavis, but he is our brother. So to Najee Ali, if you are seeking to silence Tavis, then you too will need to disappear the next time we as black people collectively disagree with you too. You too Najee Ali need to look in that mirror and "man-up" too.

Comment: MelodyCool. Excellent post.

Name: MrNajee
Comment: First of all im not seeking to silence Tavis,he silenced himself?? t The difference between me and Tavis is i dont care what you or anyone says about me I have never quit or got discouraged. I keep going and doing what i personally believe in. Like i said Tavis is a personal friend i didnt bash him. But he needs to be balanced if he going to hold people accountable, then he should start in his house with the white corporate sponsors who have mistreated Blacks across the nation that he advocates for.

Name: MelodyCool
Comment: barnone, none of what you write resonate with me. Know why? You espouse a person's personal right to do and think as they please and don't give a dayum about the breakdown of the black community because black men have basically abandoned it and black women. Can't do right for shyt unless they are upholding white supremacy and delivering for non-whites and their community. Now you want me to when "buddy up" and back the so called "black" candidate because it's convenient. He's not black and I don't care who takes pride in him. It's not about taking pride...it's about taking "stock". Try to pick up on that concept! Personally, I believe so many take pride in Obama because they aren't doing anything with themselves to take pride in. Think about it.
