Comment: goodnplenty1957:...You forgot one!...my favorite is...do a chicken have lips!!??? LMBAO!!! Hey, this shyt is just a comfirmation that Jeremiah "WRONG" is in bed with...massa!! On yesterdays board, I profusely stated...there's NO WAY IN DEE HELL J.W. didn't know or think his actions would do hella damage to Obama!! And that is what HE WANTED TO DO!! This house "N" will probably be held...the next Al Sharpton!! It IS about time for another (newly elected by YT) Black %*$ leader!! I mean, if he really wanted to do some GOOD with his "truth",....wouldn't it have been better to have waited until "O" was IN THE WHITE HOUSE!!??? That way, he would've had the ear of someone who would've & WANTED TO...LISTEN!!??? He could've...THEY COULD"VE did some serious damage in THAT POSITION!!! But this "crab" just had to try & pull his own...back into that F'n bucket!!!....FO MASSA!!! And all who STILL can't see this....keep on drinkin that "WILLIE" juice!!!

Comment: whaddup T..well its about 5:20pm in the evening here in Shanghai China, 12-hours ahead of east coast. ..and now Hillary is saying, if she was in cherch and heard what Rev Wright was saying, she would have gotten up....but i bet when her her ministers in her church talk about how homosexuality is bad, pre-maritial sex, etc is wrong..she never got up, even though stuff like that is suppose to be in the bible.

Name: bigfriend
Comment: I may have been inclined to think so, which would have been a good strategy for clinton btw if so, except that i read that this person had tried to get rev wright 2 years ago for a press club thing and they turned the rev down saying he was not newsworthy. So conspiracy no. He sure is newsworthy now (at least for 12 more minutes)!

Name: Taurusingr
Comment: goodnplenty1957:...You Knooooow she sat her lying %*$ right there & said...AMEN!! lol!! Plus.. Bill & Sillary say this man Jeremiah "WRONG" is sooooo bad!! But if I'm not mistaken, this is the SAME MAN who Bill ran to when the "Monica thang" went down!!! THE SAME DAMN MAN!! That ALSO ties J.W.to the Clintons!!! But really...should we expect anything different from a woman who doesn't know NOT to lie about gun fire that never happened, b/c the F'n trip...... IS ON TAPE!!! This beeeeaaaaatch is twisted, dizzy & SAD!!

Comment: Surely Barbara Reynolds had a inkling of a notion that Reverend Wright would get on world TV and make an absolute azz of himself and stick a Judas knife in the back of OBAMA. My MaMa used to always say "there's no fool like an old fool" and it certainly fits Wright as snug as a Stacey Adam wing tipped shoe. Perhaps, the student, staff, faculty and administration should storm her office at Howard University Divinity School and run her out of town on a rail. What she and her co-conspirator Wright did was certainly not DIVINE.

Name: SoopDawwg
Comment: Stop the B.S.,nobody was responsible for the loon Rev Wright, but Rev Wright. No one put words in his mouth. People are always looking to blame others,BLAME THE PERSON THAT DID IT!

Name: fanteeking
Comment: Watch for the good Reverend Wright to make the talk show circuit a la Jay Leno & David Letterman and maybe even Bill O'Reilly and Faux News. He really is enjoying his 15 minutes of world notoriety and "he don't wanna jump of de ferris wheel". It's so sad that the 20 years of "pulpitic good works and social ministries" has been reduced to a snippet of him dancing and clowning in front of white folks talking about how fluid Florida A&M marching band is and how robotic and "Frankensteinic" Michigan & Michigan State U.'s bands are. His entire ministry has sadly been reduced to a men's room joke. (Shakin' my head and sighing)

Name: Taurusingr
Comment: SoopDawwg:....I'm not one for falsely accusing or blaming!! I just know the history of YT & house "N's"!! Plus...ask yourself why no one rightfully blamed McCain for the BIGOT he had open his fund raiser/rally!!?? And why no one called that lying beeeeaaatch Sillary on HER LIES!! (the bigots SHE HAD in her campaign & that F'd up lie about the "bullets" & shyt!! Sooooo, let's INDEED...BLAME ALL THE PEOPLE THAT DO THE SHYT rather than someone who wasn't even in the same area code when the shyt went down!! I.E...Obama!! One!

Comment: Taurusingr: Joe Andrew's endorsement is "nice" but please know that I live in Indianapolis and this town (not big city) has the LARGEST per-capita amount of republican-voting negroes in the universe. SOME of the leading mega-churches are led by folks with pro-republican, anti-Obama sentiments. When Evan "I am the law" Bayh says "JUMP!!" a lot of these black leaders say, "Massa, how high?" Reverend Wright has torpedoed Obama's chance to win the Hoosier primary and Hilllary & John McCain are givin' Reverend Wright a "high five".

Comment: fanteeking:...Damn!! And let's not forget bout their "crossing the party line" strategy!! How is THAT SHYT even...LEGAL!!???

Name: fanteeking
Comment: Taurusingr: Here in Naptown, voters can declare a party affiliation and vote accordingly. Don't be surprised if a lot of repubs. "re-declare" and vote for Billiary just to stir the pot. There are Black city department heads who keep their job regardless of which party is in power. They are chameleon-esque and sho-nuff know how to "re-declare" errry four years when their jobs are on the line.

Comment: fanteeking:...I guess they have RESTOCKED the shelves with that "WILLIE" juice!! HUH!!???

Name: fanteeking
Comment: Yeah, they be a lot of Willies here ESPECIALLY in city gov't. Indiana has traditionally and historically been a "red state" and conventional wisdom dictates to young, upwardly mobile Blacks that if you wanna maximize your career opportunities, don't wait in the long democratic line, just sell your souls for 30 pieces of silver and join the repubs. Didn't they free yaw from slavery?

Comment: Wow, when will negroes learn??!! Didn't yall read Malcom??!! And how many times do we have to watch this type of stuff play out before we understand the game??!! Maybe cause i was a psych major it's easier to see. 1. Take one attractive, likable person with the average ego, boost that ego by telling them they can win the democratic nomination (no matter the unlikely reality of any such thing coming to pass because said person lives in a rabidly though covertly racist society) 2. Use that person to stimulate the passions of naive youth and the guilty (due to prospering on the backs of the disenfranchised) and or disenfranchised persons in said racist society. 3. Translate that passion into voting registrations. 4. At the last minute find someone or anything to discredit said attractive, likable person and watch them flounder, get desperate, melt down and do or say damn near anything to salvage their reputation/standing in the community/marriage/job/ego, etc. (Obama hasn't gotten to this stage yet) 5. Watch the games keeper sweep in to collect all those newly registered voters and sway them to go with the "the only one that can obviously win" (Hillary in this case) 6. Put this new "underdog" up against the superhero and then watch McCain win. Hope it doesn't go down like this but history is a mighty teacher.

Comment: PgDn, if we have seen an opposition's contrived series of events to do a take down on an opponent, it has failed . . . . . . as more of the balanced, nuanced O-BA-MA!! characteristics are revealed through incredible and damning circumstances that would destroy any lesser person, more people are seeing that this man is the real deal . . . . . . win, lose, or draw, O-BA-MA!! has been a mighty wonder to behold and I am mighty proud of him . . . . . no, hellary supporters, the man does not walk on water but I think it interesting that people make perjorative comments about him that reveal the awe in mindset of people who make those comments: you try to overcome your awe with vehement negative statements - the audicity of O-BA-MA!! ought to be inspirational to your aspirations

Name: professo285
Comment: If this is the case, this is a true definition of vindictiveness going on. Also, if true, Clinton and this so called supporter of hers better be careful because what goes around comes around. However, Rev. Wright was in control and he should have handled it much better than what he did.

Name: professo285
Comment: Iss CNN getting on anyone's nerves with this %*$!!!!! It looks as if they're the biggest media organization that is dwelling on this and is making it more difficult for Obama.

Name: CRENEEJ
Comment: professo, why should someone make it easy for BO? and Harris, please. i don't think anyone here is making vehement negative statements about BO, so that's more directed at another site. and the only reason Rev. Wright did so much damage is b/c he pulled the curtain up before BO could 'put on his face', and now a lot of people are looking at him differently. he painted himself into this corner. i believe he can come back from this, but ultimately i don't really care if he does. any democrat is better than a rethuglican so i'd get over it. let's not forget that i hear aka read so many insults about HRC on this site and on CNN, it's ridiculous....

Name: McNasty
Comment: If it wasn't a ploy by the clintons why didn't the black pawn in clinton's camp invite hagee and parsley so they could all explain their remarks?! I'm about sick and tired of black folks following so close behind those clintons they can't see what is right in their faces. We can talk conspiracy theories all day long but as long as we continue to jump from bandwagon to bandwagon we have no one to blame but ourselves. Since this all happened sillary continues to campaign like she is oblivious to what her camp is up to and for me that is suspect. She has never missed an opportunity to twist, turn and misconstrue Obama's words but right now she is suspiciously quiet. DON'T GIVE UP - GO OBAMA!

Name: kwrob
Comment: Now these organizers stated that Wright was invited abouta year before this whole dust up. But everybody knows that speakers get uninvited to speak at events all the time, based on that speaker being in a controversial situation. I'm sure they could have scheduled someone else to speak in place of Wright, if they really wanted to. Reynolds has played the role of Linda Tripp in this situation, and Wright was a virtual Lewinsky.

Name: Renetta
Comment: I live in a building full of Rev Wright church members and even THEY think he went over the top to the white press. "Rev" Barbara Reynolds is another sell-out turncoat liar supporting a liar (hillary). This race goes on GOD will not be stopped. God picked him NOT hillary.

Name: McNasty
Comment: Tavis' commentary is on now and he likens the media storm about Rev. Wright to crack and he asks what does the Rev. remarks have to do with the price of gas? with the medical care I can't afford, with the house I just lost. He is saying that there has been so much on this nothing of a story some are fiending for it like the crack pipe. One good point we need to take the energy we are using on this board and bombard MSNBC with questions about the issues on the table, not about what a church man said. He went on to say that while Wright may have been wrong about where AIDS came from it matters not because nobody died - bushit=4,000 and still counting.

Comment: If this is true, its no surprise. There is always one that will do this to their race....so sad

Name: CRENEEJ
Comment: harris, i beg to differ. it's not that he's really losing support. allegedly his 'approval ratings' are down, but do prospective candidates have 'approval ratings'? but i digress, he presented this picture of a person who wants a transparent gov't, and people involvement, and that he's not your typical politician, when he is.... now say what u want. he has been boxed into a corner b/c he presented himself as squeaky clean not resorting to negativity, but now needs to so what does he do? does he go negative? they'll jump all over him for that... does he stay silent? they'll call him a coward and jump all over him for that too. i think from the very beginning he should have handled this better, but what's done is done. also for whoever ^^^ that said God will not be stopped, and God has decided. did God tell you that? cuz i'd love to have that type of convo w/ him. noone knows what God has decided, and everything that happens is according to his perfect will, so if BO loses, it is also because of GOD's PERFECT WILL!!!

Comment: The only thing that can "save" Barack now is a NEW CAMPAIGN MANAGER -- a brilliant, albeit ruthless, one.

Name: Winn30344
Comment: Excellent point McNasty that I never thought of..why wasn't other ministers invited? Hagee was just with McCain in New Orleans still making those insulting, homophobic and racist statements and that's not newsworthy since that's the reason they're saying Rev. Wright was invited?

Name: HarrisThomas
Comment: a politician is not squeaky clean and/or above the fray because he proposes to discuss issues and then is hypercritical when he goes toe-to-toe with a negative ad producing opponent . . . . . for certain, when a campaign goes negative, it is very difficult not to respond as in Pennsylvania when hellary's negative ads were put on blast immediately by her opposition . . . . . now, hellary's 527 supporters are robo-calling with bad voter registration information and that type of thing has to be dealt with immediately . . . . . . in 2004 during the general election, Ohio AAs were called and told they could wait and vote the next day: in AA voting districts, fewer voting machines were available, the lines were longer and some people didn't get to vote, especially the next day . . . . . as one routinely sees, some negative ads are not just ad hominem attacks on opponents, they are community-based negative attacks to disenfranchise voters

Name: BlkATLTop
Comment: McNasty- you wrote- "preachers don't turn down opportunities to speak - try again." No need to try again. I stand by what I wrote. Just because she extended the offer, he didn't have to accept it.

Comment: Rev. Wright need to sit his old azz down somewhere. He should know how much harm he's doing to Sen. Obama and he doesn't seem to give a dayum because it's all about him now. The hell with him.

Name: LazySusan
Comment: I actually am beginning to feel sorry for Billary supporters. I truly am. Hillary knows she can't win this nomination. And yet like the criminal she is, she still continues to take money from supporters....and it's probably used to cover her debts. So people like Barbara Reynolds and others, should either prepare themselves to either vote for Barack Obama, vote for John McCain, or some third party candidate. As for Rev. Wright, I still think he's probably resented Barack Obama for awhile and Sen. Obama was just unaware of it. Just from some of the things I've seen from the gossiping pundits, I think this may be yet another pseudo-scandal that the great senator may bounce back from as well.

Comment: Why are some of you blaming yt? Sometimes we really are our own worst enemy!! I just don't understand when we were so close that one of our alleged own who brags/speaks about being light-skinned has brought the downfall of what could be our first African-American president. This so reminds be me of the slaying of Malcom-X. Sometimes were our own worst enemy.

Comment: I mentioned some of the conspiratorial dynamics that could possibly be in play the other day and this connection just adds to those suspicions. However, since I'm not a resident of any of the states that are in play this coming Tuesday, there's nothing I can do except wait. And send in a $25 campaign donation.

Name: McNasty
Comment: Winn the story about sillary's preacher being sentenced today for molesting a 7 year old is on another BLACK website but I have yet to hear about it in mainstream news. MSNBC should have jumped on that just like they did the Rev. Wright story. We come to this board to this story instead of using the power of the pen (e-mail) and MSNBC is getting away with all this biased reporting. Every national news station that has reported this story ad nauseum should have an e-mail from every Obama supporter - that's if we're serious about our support and the slant the msm are putting on this campaign. It galls me that it is painfully obvious that even sillary thinks she can't win - otherwise she would fight fair - as it is she and her campaign staffers can't get any lower in my eyes.

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: Ok this is stupid subject..really stupid. So did Hellary MAKE Rev. Wright have the press conference? Did Hellary have some sort of "convo w/god" where he told her that "the Rev. go act a complete fool, please invite him." This is silly season for sure. Rev. Wright was the who accepted the invitation even if it was as the invite of a Clinton supporter. More importantly, w/all this talk from black folk about "he's derailing his campaign," Fk outta here. If anybody will be responsible for Wright, it will be Barack H Obama. He said he was the "crazy uncle" so he knew he was a fewl a long time ago. It's HIS fault for not handling it. That's like inviting your loud azz, uncouth, uncle (who always get's drunk and shows out at any and every function) to your wedding and then get pizzed w/him when he shows out. No, that's YOUR fault. Your uncle was being who he is. Let's put the REAL blame where it lies. If there was no relationship...this wouldn't be a story.

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: BTW, MSNBC was our beloved station when there was good reporting on Obama..now they're the anti-christ. Well, IMO, they never stopped being the anti-christ and I have never given them a break on their poor campaign coverage.

Comment: if O-BA-MA!! prevails and becomes the democratic candidate for the general election, his supporters will have to love and respect Rev. Wright as Michelle says, and to be mobilized in every state to encourage the vote and to function as election day monitors

Name: HarrisThomas
Comment: By Nedra Pickler . . . . . May 1, 2008 WASHINGTON (AP) — A leader of the Democratic Party under Bill Clinton has switched his allegiance to Barack Obama and is encouraging fellow Democrats to "heal the rift in our party" and unite behind the Illinois senator. Joe Andrew, who was Democratic National Committee chairman from 1999-2001, planned a news conference today in his hometown of Indianapolis to urge other Hoosiers to support Mr. Obama in Tuesday's primary, perhaps the most important contest left in the White House race. He also has written a lengthy letter explaining his decision that he plans to send to other superdelegates. "I am convinced that the primary process has devolved to the point that it's now bad for the Democratic Party," Mr. Andrew said in a telephone interview with the Associated Press. Bill Clinton appointed Mr. Andrew chairman of the DNC near the end of his presidency, and Mr. Andrew endorsed the former first lady last year on the day she declared her candidacy for the White House. Mr. Andrew said in his letter that he is switching his support because "a vote for Hillary Clinton is a vote to continue this process, and a vote to continue this process is a vote that assists (Republican) John McCain."

Name: krizdj
Comment: Why isn't there a thorough examination of HRC and McCains pastors sermons. Can't we find some soundbites of controversial things their pastors said and loop them over and over to put this all into perspective. It would be interesting what HRC pastors have said about gay rights for example.

Name: Exmun
Comment: A lot of ya'll are missing the facts and are resorting to media spin for argument and discussion points. It is a FACT that Barack Obama is leading in pledged and total delegates by a margin of somewhere between 135 and 150. It is a virtual MATHEMATIC IMPOSSIBILITY for Hillary to even catch up let along surpass him in delegates. All this media spin and Clinton spin about popular vote and "electability" are the creation of people who are hell bent on changing the rules to win (Clinton) or hell bent on continuing the soap opera (mainstream media) so that they can continue to get record ratings for the coverage of a presidential primary. There is NO WAY that the Democratic party superdelegates choose Clinton over Obama. No way. They will not risk tearing the party apart and having black folk and young folk stay home in November. The vast majority of uncommitted superdelegates (many of whom are close to the Clintons) are looking for the race to seal the fate of the losing candidate so that they can save face by saying that Obama has won the most delegates and should be the nominee. It's their only way to not offend Bill and Hillary, whom many are close to or indebted to. The media would have you believe otherwise that there is a chance for Hillary to win this thing, but it is not going to happen. So stop talking like this Wright thing is the deathblow to Obama. Wright said what he said because he wanted to. I've known a lot of people like him and their sense of right and wrong along with a dash of ego doesn't permit them to back down, especially when there's a few dollars on the table and a bright limelight to espouse their opinions... regardless of the cost. Don't buy the media hype. Wright was never news. This story is a media creation for ratings and the dollars that come with them.

Comment: Just to clarify ---- the Internet is carrying stories that a former pastor of the Clintons has been convicted of first-degree sexual abuse for touching a 7-year-old girl in the wrong place. Comment: from a huffingtonpost writer:I've spent all night playing the new Grand Theft Election VIII and it's the most exciting First Political Shooter since the original Grand Theft Election: Bush v. Gore. I don't want to ruin the game for you, but it's just so huge that there's enough game play to last until August...or June, in case your Mom and Howard Dean come into your room and tell you to stop playing. With all the hype, you've heard the basics of Grand Theft Election VIII by now -- you duck sniper fire, attempt to control superdelegates and do whatever you need to do to win the election. Here are my favorite missions.... ******Loose Cannon - This is where the fun starts -- as Hillary Clinton. You can literally do or say anything you want - switch accents, change your biography from state to state, and even change the rules as you go along. It's really exhilarating -- the first time you realize you can run up to the Straight Talk Express, grab John McCain from the driver's seat, throw him to the ground, and then actually hijack the bus to run over Barack Obama while your character cackles wildly in 7.1 surround sound. That's when you understand what politics is really all about. ******Whack Judas - Playing as Bill Clinton, you get a tip from a very realistic avatar of James Carville. (Insider sources say they reused the Golem avatar from the Lord of the Rings video game.) You pilot Revenge Force One to New Mexico where you track down Gov. When news cameras catch you beating Richardson over the head with a churro, you must angrily point at the camera and deny that you hit him or that you were ever in New Mexico. Bonus points if you can convince reporters that Richardson was actually playing 'La Raza' card and that Richard was hitting YOU in the hand with a churro. ******Operation None Of Your Business - In this short episode, you are Chelsea Clinton. Name: musbdherbs
Comment: Exmun..why is that so hard to figure out? Is it because we are so reliant on the media to make and report the news that we just can't think for ourselves. It's crazy. I don't care what ne1 says, it was a sad day in black america that yet another black person had to disassociate from a relationship w/Farrakhan that they've never had. It's a horrible standard. It is a modern day lynching seeing a black person having to apologize for what their pastor says and even worse when black commentators co-sign it. I have been to churches that have damned homos to hell, bashed bush, talked about slavery, america, ex-slaveowning presidents etc. Rest assure, the black church IS under attack and the next black national figure will have his/her pastor's sermons scrubbed and it's nothing we should say but, "that's the game." Crenee...there are names created for Bush, Cheney, Condi, Al, Jessie, Hellary, and even Obama by those who are not in their corner. This election doesn't differ in that regard. You may not see Hillary supporters on 'this' board calling Obama names. But, I can azzure you that he's being called erthing but a child of the king on other sites. Hell, Rev. Wright is being called names that I don't agree w/.

GWB let them move in 2003. she didn't say that GWB allowed for the sale, just for the move. ummmm no dice on that one. and let me ask u this one as well: if she did come out and say well this was bill's idea and i think it was a bad idea, that would make her look bad too. if she disagreed w/ him at the time, it's not like she could really go public w/ that.

Comment: Musb, I agree with you and Rev. Wright on his point that this media story is a not-so-veiled attack on the Black church. Truth be told, as much as I hate to admit it Al Sharpton's approach would have been the best to shut this MF down. Sharpton (for all his flaws) would have asked each reporter asking about Wright's sermons how many times they've ever been in a Black church service. The truth about it is that MOST of the reporters creating this Wright media stories have never even seen the entire 2-3 sermons that were looped over an over in this Wright fiasco. Can you think of something so irresponsible... people reporting (as fact) on something they haven't fully reviewed? Didn't that Back reporter Jason Blair get fired from the NY Times for making up stories. What's differnt here? Case in Point, the Damn National Press Club HOST and chief question-asker admitted to Rev. Wright in the post speech Q&A that she hadn't reviewed the entire sermon (the one with the 'chickens coming home to roost' comment). I'll repeat... her group invited Jeremiah Wright to the shindig, prepared questions in advance and hadn't even bothered to look at the ENTIRE sermon before she decided to ask questions about the sermon on national TV. This kind of media irresponsibility needs to be check and challenged loudly. YT has no place to judge the traditions of Black churches. The Black church is DIFFERENT than your typical white church. I've attended both types and there are marked differences. It's a damn shame that Barack is too classy to get into this debate. Because an offensive approach to question the reporters asking dumb questions will easily shut the mofo down.

Barack Obama ******By Deval Patrick****** The first time I met Barack we had coffee together at a shop in downtown Chicago. He was in a small law firm, and I was at the Justice Department's civil rights division in the Clinton Administration. Like many who meet him, I hoped he would one day run for public office. You just want people of his caliber to lead. When at last he decided to run for the Illinois Senate, he called to ask for my help, and I was eager to give it. "I'll contribute at the max," I pledged. "Deval," he said, "in Illinois there is no max." I said, "Brother, I'm sorry, there has to be a max!" Barack, 46, has already changed American politics. We often hear about the size of the crowds he attracts, as a measure of the excitement about his candidacy. It's the variety of the crowd that is the real phenomenon: little kids who sit on the floor in front of the podium, and the 101-year-old gentleman who stood up from his wheelchair in Iowa and said, "I'm with him too." Farmers in overalls next to people in business suits. Every race, religion and creed. Every political party and no party at all. You can feel their excitement about being in Barack's presence—and about being in the presence of one another. They glimpse for a minute what it might be like to find common cause across differences. That's how Barack has changed politics. ******Patrick is governor of Massachusetts

Comment: Crenee..I just watched the clip as well. Based on it, this is what I see: Hellary is in Vallaparaiso(sp) decrying the 2003 move of Mangnequench (makes high tech magnets included in defense application such as smart bombs) to china and now China has a monopoly on the technology. She says that the "chinese bought Magnequench and then they decided they were going to move the 'whole' company from Indiana to China." She is criticizing Bush for dropping the ball on a national security issue by allowing the company to be "moved" to China back in 03. She isn't necessarily incorrect. She just omits critical info that would put her argument against Bush in context. It's more of the Clinton triangulating. The company was "sold" in 1995 under Clinton despite national security concerns in part because the companies were owned by sons-in-law of ex-chinese leader, Dong Zhou Ping (sp). As part of the buy, they only agreed to keep technical production/jobs in the US until 2005. They reneged and did it in 2003. So, the company was "sold" under her husband and although they may have promised not to move until a certain date, they never promised it wouldn't be moved at all. So she's going around beating up Bush for something her husband approved...despite the same concerns she claims to have now about jobs/national security. She may have been opposed to the initial sale. But, it was under her previous joint presidency that it was approved. They just moved it (the company they already owned) two years early. It's called triangulation.

Rev. Wright did not hurt Obama. Rev Wright exposed those people who were'nt going to support Obama anyway. On one hand we talk about how we need to have an honest talk about race issues or we say that non-Black support of Obama is proof that we are dealing with race issues. Comment: You know I am starting to look at this latest incident another way. Maybe Wright did this intentionally to draw attention to himself and sever the opportunity for the media and voters to equate him with Obama going forward. He may have even done this so Obama would be forced to cut all ties with Wright publicly to get the media and political scrutiny off of him. This would be a way for Obama to be able to refocus on the issues from here on out. He may have even strategized this whole thing with Obama's camp because something as outlandish as this had to be done to derail the media's constant coupling of Obama and Wright. Think back to the antics, to him having the FOI around him, and saying Farrakhan is not his enemy. If you notice Barack got the media to back off of the Farrakhan reference by denounciing him publicly. So what would be the point of Wright talking about Farrakhan, except to force Obama to also publicly denounce him as an advisor, and even a friend?

"This has got to come to an end," former Democratic National Committee Chairman Joe Andrew told reporters in his hometown of Indianapolis just days before Tuesday's crucial state primary. He said he planned to call all the other superdelegates he knows and encourage them to back Obama. Bill Clinton appointed Andrew chairman of the DNC in 1999, and he led the party through the disputed 2000 presidential race before stepping down in 2001. ADVERTISEMENT Wright, former pastor to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, was selected to be honored at the June ceremony in Evanston, Illinois, on the recommendation of faculty committees, Alan Cubbage, vice president for university relations, said in a statement. ``In light of the controversy around Dr. Wright and to ensure the celebratory character of commencement not be affected, the university has withdrawn its invitation to Dr. Wright,' Cubbage said. Obama, an Illinois senator, has repeatedly denounced Wright's statements, which have included praise for Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan and a suggestion that the U.S. government was capable of developing AIDS to infect black people.

"A group of Jewish Americans all across the U.S. believe Barack Obama would make the best president and hence are in the process of preparing a full-page New York Times ad -- to be signed by all of us who would like to be included -- showing the U.S. Jewish community?s widespread support for Barack," Levin writes, adding that the ad's sponsors will be known as "American Jewish Patriots." . . . . . The need for such an ad is a mark of Obama's continuing struggle to secure the allegiance of Jewish voters -- typically a solidly Democratic group -- in the face of often inchoate concerns, urban legends, and viral emails that he's worked hard to rebut.

Comment: Sorry, I got cut off from my thoughts. This is what I think happened with BO and Wright. Trinity is "the" church to be for upwardly mobile black folk, esp local politicians. In addition, BO is biracial and found unconditional acceptance of him at Trinity (a black church in a lily white UCC denomination; a denomination which is heavy on unity in diversity as a basic theology). Barack felt safe there and could form his adult identity as a black man there. However, Rev. Wright knows that BO was ALSO there in large part for political acceptance and reputation. Now, we all know that BO hardly physically attended church there. As a public figure, he just traveled too much. Anynbody with half a brain would know this. So of course, he probably did miss out on some of Rev. Wright's more colorful sermons. And it s true that as people age and reach "posterity", as Rev. Wright was doing, they just let it all hang out. Compare Bill Cobsy now to who he was 20 years ago, and you'll see the parallels in "I'll say what I damn well feel like saying" attitude. So, Re. Wright probably HAS gotten more vitriolic in his delivery over the past few years (and with Bush, perhaps with good reason). Now, Rev. Wright probably was ticked as all get out that BO "used" his church for a political stepping stone and then had the nerve to politely distance himself last January 2007 and again in Feb 2008. JW wasn't having it, and his cadre of black preacher friends probably egged him on to finally let loose this week. "Man don't let him do you like that.. I don't care who he thinks he is... You're a man of Gawwd... You better show him you that you're still his senior, and he ain't nothin but an upstart, etc..." Barack didn't see that coming. His vision and the vision of his campaign members is so unified and on point (to the likes of what this nation hasn't seen since the civil rights era), he just didn't forsee that Rev. Wright wasn't down with the vision and felt sold out by the political process. I think the friendship is gone. Perhaps one day Rev. Wright will have the humility to realize that his reaction was immature and damaging to BO - and in my opinion - to black America.

Comment: I also want to comment on the "government created AIDS" statement. Nothing could be farther from the truth and for any black person to actually believe that is mind boggling to me. We will never be politically relevant if we don't educate ourselves first. HIV came from animals, converted into humans from somewhere (doesn't matter) and took off in populations that were sexually risky. Period. We can't create viruses, because we don't *understand* viruses. In this country, there is NO scientific knowledge that is on the down low. Peer review, peer competition and the reality that "great minds, in fact, DO think alike" make down-low scientific research impossible. If a "secret" researcher is thinking it, please know that 10 other "non-secret" researchers are thinking it - and publishing it- too. And frankly, what propels research is funding. And, trust, government labs don't have it. Government basic research is among the worst supported endeavor in the nation as has been for quite some time.

Comment: Shula..that's an interesting perspective if you buy into the "jealously" angle that many are trying to put out there in order to explain "how could wright do this to a black man." I don't buy it though. It's been over almost two months since the story broke and Wright hadn't said nething til now..even though him, his church, and his religion has been dragged through the mud. He showed his azz. Oh well. It won't be the last time a black man does that...Obama being president or not. You can replace Wright's name w/Al Sharpton and the comparisons and condemnation from black america and the media will be just the same. The difference is that most people realize that whatever they say about Al needs to be done outside of his earshot cuz he'll rip 'em a new one.

Comment: musbdherbs wrote "it's been over almost two months since the story broke and Wright hadn't said nething til now". Well, I guess he had a lot of pent up feelings, then. People can hold on to a lot of resent for a while, and then given the right trigger (eg. I need to show these arrogant white reporters how smart I am, how dare they bait me with questions) he just lost it. Christian scripture says "be slow to anger, slow to speak, and quick to listen, for by doing this you serve the will of God" (James chapter 1). We all miss it and screw up; Rev. Wright just did at the near wrongest time in American history. That's all. :-(

Comment: Shula...oh lawd..I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. HOWEVER, did you just say that the gov't can't create viruses because we don't *understand* them? Does that not mean that we also wouldn't be able to create cures? Do you know what is done in research facilities such as NIH or the CDC? The US created biological weapons which we sold to Sadaam. The US used black men as experiments by injecting them w/syphillis. How can you educate us on HIV w/out knowing its origin? It came from what animals? Did humans have sex w/animals and then spread it across continents? You do realize that what you posted is yet another "theory" as they still dont know how the first transmission from human to human occured. that's why it's called a theory.

Comment: and uhm...you must didn't watch the press conference cuz nowhere in it was Wright "angry." No, Obama chose to be friends w/the wrong person during the "wrongest time in American history." Don't blame wright for Obama's obvious lack of judgment.

Comment: musbdherbs... Sit down, grasshopper, for I am about to school you. 1st point: No one can back-engineer what they don't understand, because back-engineering as a discipline requires detailed step-by-step methodology. What do you know about where viruses decide to integrate into human DNA without accidentally and permanently turing the virus off an estimated 80% occurence, btw in gene transfer? To give you spacial image, I'm asking you to show me how to throw a frisbee from the middle of Manhattan to San Francisco and make it land on Embarcadero Blvd at Warf #40. Or what can you tell me about when viruses decide to selectively turn on or off their protein production depending on the ethnicity of the host that they are in? Did the government back in the 1950s have secret knowledge of single nucleotide polymorphisms required to get specific virus protein production in black folk? The knowledge to do what your resoning would require of the government simply DID NOT exist, anywhere. And as far as creating cures (and by this, you really mean treatments) to things we don't understand, it is very easy to create cures to *symptoms* that afflict people. However, curing the actual cause of the symptom requires target validation, which requires SPECIFIC knowledge of how the target works. Which takes me back to my questions I posed above. Point #2: Syphillis was not engineered. It was gathered from the blood of previously infected people and given to black men. Point #3: We have 98% genetic identity with chimps. Seroconversion doesn't come from sex with animals. It comes from exposure to animal products (blood, improperly validated vaccines, meat). Point #4: HIV is the human version of SIV (in chimps) This type of homology is very common; not just for viruses. Point #5: IHIV would have eventually died out in humans if humans had been sexually responsible. If black people have HIV at the rates we do, and we represent the largest portion of the US population with HIV, then we have ourselves to blame. Wrap it up when you're having sex, stay monogomous with the same partner forever, or stay abstinent. The government didn't give HIV to us. We did.

Comment: The point is that the US Government hasn't "created" any biological virus. The US government can be aware of a public health concern and then choose to withold information/treatments or spread misinformation/mistreatment concerning a diease. But it cannot create a disease. It is true that the government has learned about disease progression by unfairly using particular subgroups. Blacks are just ONE of them. Orphan children are another. Prisoners are another. That's why we now have informed consent laws. But to run around saying that the government sat 60 years ago to create something that NO ONE had the tehcnology to do is just dumb. And it is even dumber to reiterate that on a disease that is behaviorally transmitted. If you don't have unsafe sex or shoot needles, you won't get the disease. It's that simple.

Comment: shulamite >> what about the ones who have contracted HIV via blood transfusions before the 'awareness' was brought out?

Name: shulamite
Comment: Caliredbone, are you asking if the government purposefully allowed spreading of the disease in blood transfusions? How odd. I didn't realize that the hemophiliacs (who are mostly white, btw) had ticked the government off so badly.

Name: shulamite
Comment: I'm sorry for my snide remark. The government can't screen what it doesn't know to exist. HIV mRNA was not sequenced until the mid 1980's precisely BECAUSE the government desperately wanted to know what the "flu-like sickness" actually was (you can't grasp how many other illnesses got put on the funding backburner when HIV came out). Keep in mind that the technology to do this had just been discovered and was still being worked out (by this I mean sequencing, hybridizations), immunology for virus protein blood counts). Like I said, you cannot engineer what you don't have the technology to do. Academic researchers did not get the technology from the government after 40 years of secret research. Academics gave the government the technology and the government slowly used it to launch public health efforts to screen for the disease.

Name: CaliRedbone
Comment: noooo, shulamite, not the "government theory" there are folks that allegedly" contracted HIV/AIDS via blood transfusions

Name: shulamite
Comment: There was no "alleged" contraction via blood transfusions. That contraction was real and wiped out 90% of hemophiliacs from the US population at the time. That's why people were desperate to learn how to identify the virus. From a research point of view the time it took from people learning what the "flu-like illness" was to making a cocktail to TREAT it (not cure it) was a miracle in efficiency. That timeline has never been replicated before in any nation for any diease.
