Comment: I knew why Beyonce married him, Jay has a big heart! Keep doing great things. That is awesome!

Name: Deb70
Comment: Good for J.; I really admire that.

Name: Exmun
Comment: A good move (in principle) for Jay-Z. I do wonder, however, where the money is coming from. Is he personally putting his own money or his company's money in the trust? Or is he going to pimp out the would be Mrs. Bell to sell Rocawear clothes so that a "portion" of those sales be donated to the charitable trust? Need more info. Come on EUR that's what media does, finds out the whole story.

Name: javone77
Comment: I'm with that JIgga! That's a great thing for him to do. I've liked him but I like him even more now.

Name: ladybyrd
Comment: This is a great deed, why would it matter where the money is coming from? He doesn't need Ms. Bell to sell Rocawear URBAN kids are eat'in that crap up like candy and they don't know who the hell Ms. Bell is outside of NYC, remember that.

Name: Exmun
Comment: ladybird, It 'matters' because this story is being reported as a feel good piece where Jaz-Z is being portrayed as a benefactor who is taking care of these children who have suffered a great tragedy. Without further info I do not deny this portrayal. But what many of these types of reports tend to ignore is where the money is coming from. It is not uncommon for celebrities or business people to use the tragedy to pimp their wares by making the money come out of future sales of their goods (e.g. 10% of all proceeds of Rocawear sales/Jaz-Z CD sales go to the Shawn Bell Children's charity). The article is not clear where the money is coming from. Why it matters is that he may not be a benevolent as the article suggests once the whole story is disclosed. I'm not saying one way or the other, either way he's to be applauded. BUT, there is a big difference in saying "Jay-Z is donating $X to the Shawn Bell Children's charity" versus "10% of all proceeds of Rocawear sales/Jaz-Z CD sales go to the Shawn Bell Children's charity." The first is a pure charitable gesture. The latter is using the tragedy to stack dollars for yourself and giving the kids a cut. I'm just saying.

Comment: In Hip-Hop, more of this goes on than "the media" wants us to know. I think this is a stand-up move from Jay. I am curious though as to why it is a "stock-based" trust fund, why not make the fund fully liquid (make it cash-based)? The American stock market, in the very very near so-called future will be a has-been, a novelty of the past. So by the time Bell's children are able to use the trust fund, the NYSE/Amex/NASDAQ will be closed for business. And yes, I am assuming it is with American-based securities - there are other stock exchanges around the world. But we all know that America is the granddaddy of the "new" world economy, and usually as the head goes, the body follows. But back to the kids, this is the type of mindset that we as a community had (and nourished) back before we all assimilated, back when we all lived and worked together. We all helped one another, the "hood" was the "neighbor-hood" and the weakest link never got in the way because too much strength surrounded him/her on both sides. We gotta get back to the basics.

Comment: I feel you, Exmun...

Name: LadyTBD
Comment: ....regardless of where the money is coming from and the circumstances it's still and Awesome gesture! Kudos Jay-Z

Name: HarrisThomas
Comment: Exmum, you mean like the foundations that the clintons and mccains set up to benefit them as needed? . . . . . clinton donations come from foreign governments who need favors and goes to entities like a group that supports hill's presidential run [AIDS and Katrina victims get a small, small cut] whereas mccain donations money come from the wife who funnels the foundation money to schools that their children attend . . . . . Jay's foundation set up is no worse than clinton's and mccain's

Name: DCGG
Comment: I don't give a fuvk how nice a gesture it is...it irks the shyt outta me when some celebrity decides to do something good and gotta have press releases and hold conferences annoucing their so called good intentions...

Name: Taurusingr
Comment: DCGG:....I know what you're sayin!...But maybe Jay announced this, so that OTHERS would be aware & be able to contribute to the fund!! Just a thought.... I mean...Jay is usually NOT the type to be labeled an "attention whore"!! you know!!???

Name: sonnyd
Comment: Unfortunately I don't remember who did specifically, but Jay did not announce this. I do remember that this was not a recent thing, too. This was being set up prior to the trial, but they had to wait (per their attorneys) until it was over before it became public knowledge. Just big up the man and keep it moving.

Name: Taurusingr
Comment: Man....EUR is ....Trrrrrrrrippin!! This is the SECOND time in a week where they have taken a MORE IMPORTANT story from the front page of this site, & replaced it with some TABLOID B.S. SHYT! Almost makes you wonder...where they're reeeeally coming from!!??? The story I'm referring ti is The Sharpton Pray In" story on the "OTHER" news page!! Check it out yall!!! One!!

Name: ladybyrd
Comment: Jay Z decided how he wanted to give the money to the ailing family. Now if you want the money to be liquid, why don't YOU set up a Fund at a bank in the families name. <shrugging shoulders> No matter what you do, people will ALWAYS find a reason to COMPLAIN.

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: Exmun..I'm confused. If Jay is setting aside proceeds from Rocawear to benefit Bells' kids education fund, how is it less admirable than him writing a check from his own bank account? I buy tickets (or whatever they are) from my local supermarket and the proceeds are supposed to benefit local kids' summer program. Maybe I need to re-read the article and your response for better clarification.

Name: beegirl
Comment: That's a beautiful thing.

Name: Exmun
Comment: Musbdherbs, It's nuance. A subtle difference. Writing a check (now) is straight from him. No strings attached. He benefits no more than the kudos the public gives him. Tying the donation to proceeds from his companies benefits BOTH the kids and HIM financially... and from the cynic's point of view may just be an attempt to gain attention at the expense of these kids in their tragic situation. As I said, I'm not casting judgment... just asking questions.

Name: HevE
Comment: YES!! now Jay gets major points for this. Where is the rest of the hip hop community?

Name: javone77
Comment: Hey taurus Cyberboo! lol I see you are up and passionate again today :)

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: Oh ok gotcha. I guess I'm less inclined to question the possible "pimpology" of someone who made a decision to set up a fund for children when they didn't have to. The children are the beneficiaries even if the interests are self-serving.

Name: Exmun
Comment: Herbs, He deserves props regardless of his motives. And I will give him the benefit of doubt that his motives are pure. Hell, he's doing a lot more than I'm doing so... he who sits in a glass house will not cast stones. I am a bit curious as to the details of his charity... but ya know ... just me being me.

Name: MzTee
Comment: Good move J...much respect.

Name: FineBrown
Comment: hope the rest of the celebs and others--take notice and get out their check books--we need to support this family, one way or another as they have endured much pain. Justice does not always come from the court system--it takes more than a village in this case!!!
