Comment: Good morning y'all.

Comment: Good morning all. Regarding the University of Toledo saga, my sister and her new attorney - she fired the first one last week :( - met with UT president yesterday afternoon. He said he'll make a decision regarding her employment this Friday.

Comment: The song of the day is "The Theme from Mahogany...(Do You Know Where You're Going To?)" by Diana Ross.

Name: MrsPhoenix
Comment: Awwww GHank, that is a great song of the day!!!!!!!

Name: YLawdY
Comment: MrsPhoenix ....guess you were gone, but yesterday I asked how your sister was feeling about all of this.

Comment: Good morning, family.

Comment: Morning fam!

Comment: MrsPhoenix>>>Motown songwriters wrote a ton of great songs, but this song written by Michael Masser & Gerry Goffin was one of the greatest songs ever written. With all the things going on with with politics, socialism, & the individual dreams that we have, this song fits the bill. The song is really timeless. I guess that's why schools are forever using this song as their theme at graduations.

Comment: *runs and jumps into GHANKS arms and gives him a great big kiss and hug* oh good morning yall, excuse me, i got carried away! *kisses GHANK all over his face and gives him another hug* Oh thank you! thank you sweetie! i got my Chicago CD! i tell you, i turned the volume loud on them too. i love Chicago. but i'm curious G, didn't Chicago change their sound later on in the years? their sound got a little mellower or something? cause on this CD i know it was early Chicago and they sound like a rock band.

Name: bigchassie
Comment: GHANK>Now i'm gonna have to hook you up a CD of some songs that this guy i was seeing made for me. the songs are beautiful old R&B songs. and there is this one song on there i told myself, if i ever get married again, we was gonna dance on that song. you will know it when you hear it. it brings tears to my eyes whenever i hear it. it's so beautiful.

Name: GHank
Comment: bigchassie>>>>>Yes, by the time the late 70's came, Chicago went into a different direction like a lot of other groups. A lot of the old guard Chicgo members started to leave the group because of it. Peter Cetera started to do most of the lead vocals. 80's songs like "Hurry Tomorrow" and "Hard Habit To Break" were the result of it.

Name: bigchassie
Comment: GHANK>ummhumm. didn't they sing "Baby Please Don't Go" (*if you leave me now, you take away the biggest part of me...oooh, oh baby please don't go*)

Comment: Good Morning family. It is a great day. Not to hot. Great quote of the day Soror Hershey. I dont know if I ever mentioned how hard it is to read The Audacity of Hope. I have been trying for two months.

Name: JFromMO
Comment: osun - i have that book and it's tucked away in my foot locker. i don't think i've ever opened it. i wanted to read tavis' 'what i know for sure' first. i think i got to chapter 2. MAYBE chapter 3. and that was about this time last year.

Name: OSUN
Comment: JfromMo- I am interested in reading Tavis' book but I wouldn't buy it. I am fine with the fact that I bought Obama's book, but it seems to be an impossible read. Its like reading Moby Dick.

Name: JFromMO
Comment: osun - i've never read moby dick and since i don't see myself digging out bo's book any time soon, i'll take your word for it. i bought tavis' book last year when i still liked him. i don't dislike him now, but if he put out another book now, i doubt i'd buy it. i have lost a lot of respect for him. if i ever get done with his book, i'll send it to you.

Comment: First of all I want to pray that Obama wins both North Carolina & Indiana. Father God in the name of Jesus, I just want to thank you for this day, thank you for being the God that you are, thank you for allowing us to wake up this morning to see another glorious day, thank you for such wonderful friends on the EUR board, thank you for allowing us to come together on a daily basis & just having fun. Father God I want to ask that you would allow our brother Barack to win Indiana & North Carolina today, I pray that this election this day be a huge turnout in his favor. Your word says we have not because we ask not, so father God I pray that he wins big in both states & that you will allow him to go on & do your will to change this country in the way that it is suppose to be. I pray that you would protect his family. I give thanks always to you, In Jesus Name Amen!

Comment: JfromMo- I have never really been a fan of TAvis, long before this "debacle", but after learning of his background and what I consider abusive parents I am interested in reading his book. However I wont put any of my measly coins towards his wealth. I have his voice and diction and I have a feeling he probably writes like he speaks so I am not sure if I would enjoy it. I had to read Hilary's book for my book club but I couldn't read it either. I have never really been a fan of hers either. This campaign season just solidified my already formed opinion of her. I couldn't stomach how she was trying to portray her relationship to Bill as loving and it was really just boring.

Name: OSUN
Comment: that should read I hate his voice and diction.

Name: CRENEEJ
Comment: amen rayne!!!! protect his family. i'm changing the person i'm praying for in your prayer, but regardless, i pray for protection for their families. i also pray for peace amongst the supporters of both. i hope that we are all able to come together when a candidate is chosen. i pray that whoever the nominees are will unite our party and begin the healing process so that we can take back the yt house and our country.

Besides rising prices, the protests have been driven by shopkeepers' refusal to accept some bank notes, apparently out of concern over counterfeiters. On Tuesday, shop owners met and agreed to begin accepting the notes again. Tuesday's unrest was not as widespread as the day before, when tens of thousands took to the streets in rioting that spread to all 13 districts of the capital. Troops fired into the crowds on Monday, killing two people. On Tuesday, the protests were confined to the city's Dharkenley and Wadajir neighborhoods. But shops across the city remained shuttered, with traders fearing the riot could spread and prompt looting. "Down with those printing the fake money!" the young men yelled, denouncing the growing number of counterfeiters who have contributed to escalating prices. "Down with opportunists!"

Name: JFromMO
Comment: "We, the big traders, have already decided to accept the old note and today we want to tell other businesses also to accept the decision," said Abas Mohamed Duale, deputy chairman of the union. Protests and riots over rising food prices have recently hit other nations, including Haiti, Egypt, Cameroon and Burkina Faso. The price of rice and other staples has risen more than 40 percent since mid-2007. The Asian Development Bank said Monday that a billion poor people in Asia need food aid to help cope with the skyrocketing prices. Soaring fuel prices, growing demand from the burgeoning middle classes in India and China and poor weather have contributed to the jump in food prices worldwide, economists say. Africa has been particularly hard-hit. In Mogadishu, the price of corn meal has more than doubled since January. Rice has risen during the same period from $26 to $47.50 for a 110-pound sack. The cost of food has also been driven up by the plummeting Somali shilling, which has lost nearly half its value against the U.S. dollar this year because of growing insecurity and a market clogged with millions of counterfeit notes. The shilling has tumbled from about 17,000 to 30,000 per $1. Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed said Monday that he planned to create a new currency in a bid to fight against counterfeiters who helped spark massive inflation in the country. Ahmed — speaking in Paris, where he met with top French officials — did not directly respond to a question about the current situation in the Somali capital, saying only "the country has been in chaos, in anarchy for a long time." He said counterfeiters have long flourished in the lawless country flooding it with "an incalculable number of fake bills." "That led us to the kinds of financial and economic problems we're seeing," Ahmed said. "But today we are determined to fight that and to create ... a new currency." Somalia has been without a functioning government since the 1991 overthrow of dictator Siad Barre. Over the past year, thousands of civilians have been killed and hundreds of thousands forced from homes in fighting pitting Islamist insurgents against a U.N-sponsored transitional government supported by troops from neighboring Ethiopia. The U.N. food security unit warned last week that half of Somalia's population of 7 million faces famine. It blamed an enduring drought as well as soaring food prices.

Name: amethyst
Comment: crenee - That's a cute proposal, and a memorable one. LOL @ tipping her in the water. Has anyone known a situation in which someone proposed and the other person said no? One of my friends was dating this crazy guy and he asked her to marry him at his sister's birthday dinner. I guess he thought since they were in a restaurant in front of his family, she wouldn't embarra-ss him. She had told him while driving to the place that he better not do something crazy like propose. She said no. I thought he was inconsiderate for doing it on his sister's birthday, that was her time to shine. (y'all know I'm very serious about birthdays being personal) Another guy I know asked the girl to marry him and she said no, or didn't answer. I don't know the setting in which it took place. We were fresh out of college. A few years later she asked him because he had told her that he would never ask her again, she would have to ask him when she was ready. He still surprised her by inviting friends to dinner and presenting her ring. They've been married for years now.

Comment: In non-Black news, but very entertaining --- After two tell-all books, tawdry sex claims and 3 1/2 years of living apart, New Jersey's gay ex-governor and his estranged wife showed up for court Tuesday morning to begin the process of ending their marriage. "It's a beautiful day," former Gov. Jim McGreevey said as he entered alone through the back entrance of the courthouse. Dina Matos McGreevey had no comment when she arrived with her lawyer through the front courthouse entrance. The first three days of the trial will be closed to the media as Union County Superior Court Judge Karen Cassidy considers custody issues surrounding the couple's 6-year-old daughter. The judge has sealed documents and testimony about the kindergartner, their only child. McGreevey and his wife have been going at each other publicly for months about everything from his partner's financial %*$ets to their daughter's birthday party. The issues to be decided in the divorce settlement involve custody, alimony and child support, and whether McGreevey, now openly gay, committed fraud by marrying a woman. Matos McGreevey, 41, is seeking $600,000 for time she would have spent at the governor's mansion had her husband not resigned in disgrace. McGreevey stepped down during his first term after a nationally televised speech in which he acknowledged being "a gay American" and having an affair with a male staffer. The staffer has denied the affair and said he was sexually harassed by McGreevey.

Name: Jacque
Comment: Since his resignation in the fall of 2004, both he and his soon-to-be-ex wrote books about their time together, including their sex lives. She claims she never knew he was gay until just before he told the rest of the world. He claims their marriage was "a contrivance on both our parts," but that he fulfilled the marriage contract by providing companionship and a child. The most sensational witness could be Teddy Pedersen, a 29-year-old former aide who claims he had regular three-way sexual encounters with the McGreeveys beginning when they were dating in 1999 and ending two years later, after they were married and McGreevey had been elected governor. John Post, a lawyer representing Matos McGreevey, is seeking to bar Pedersen's testimony. Matos McGreevey claims the encounters never happened. McGreevey says they did. McGreevey, 50, who now lives with a male partner and is studying to be an Episcopal priest, wants joint physical and legal custody of their daughter. He currently has the child one night a week and every other weekend. Child support payments will depend on custody arrangements, lawyers have said.

Comment: Good Morning board! Long time no post...I have a question for the board. i've been at my job for 8 years, and the co-workers I have some are almost like family after kickin it after work all these years. My question is this: is it pos to discuss personal business and HAVE IT NOT SPREAD AROUND WORK? Sheesh, someone saw me upset a couple weeks ago over something bad that happened to me that past weekend, then the next thing you know I have my homegurl call me asking, 'Yo, Ned, who all did you tell this story to'? I was like, "only 2 people" then the next thing you know, I hear it is all around the office! and someone who I didn't tell the story to ON PURPOSE was the one who told my homegurl about it! Told her it is all around the office. I know next time if I dont want everyone to know don't say %*$!, however I am quite a bit peeved, being I only told 2 PEOPLE. whatever. tomorrow is a new day. I just needed to vent.

Comment: life in Sac'.... shortey did you hear about this..... Cops arrest man who had 300 dead cats in freezers - Published 12:00 am PDT Sunday, May 4, 2008 SACRAMENTO – Police arrested a 47-year-old man Saturday morning after finding about 300 dead cats stuffed into freezers in his house. Thirty other cats were found alive and were removed from the south Sacramento home by city animal control workers. Michael Louis Vondueren, 47, was arrested on suspicion of possession of an automatic weapon and obstructing police officers. Police Sgt. Jim Hose said Vondueren interfered with officers who attempted to enter his home on the 4700 block of 19th Street about 8:30 a.m. Once inside the home, Hose said officers found three freezers crammed with hundreds of dead cats. Hose said the house was littered with cat feces. An 81-year-old woman described as Vondueren's mother also was living in the house. Hose said animal control was looking into citing Vondueren on additional charges.

Comment: Hey, Ned, good to hear from you. We gotta get you a new supervisor or new job so you can get back to playing with us. I don't go to work to make friends, but I've been fortunate to make a few real friends on some jobs. It just happened naturally over a period of time. We have to be very careful who we consider a "friend" versus an "associate". You can go to lunch during the week or hang outside of work, but that's doesn't guarantee they are real friends. Obviously, those co-workers are not your friends, or they would have kept your business private. In the 8 years have you witnessed them running their mouths about other people's business? If they will talk about one person, they will definitely talk about you. Now you know to deal with them with a long-handled spoon and to be selective with what you say around them.

Comment: JFromMO - That proposal sounds crazy. Were y'all in a relationship? And where was the romance? My friend's (first) husband asked her to marry him. They were in the car and he said "Open the glove compartment." A ring box was in there. She said when they got home she told him "You can at least get on your knee and put the ring on my finger." And ya wonder why the marriage didn't last a year??? My cousin and her ex-husband had lived together for several years and had a son. They finally decided to get married. She saw a ring she liked in the Valentine's Day circular for Kay Jewelers. He gave her the money and she went to the store and bought it. I asked her, "Did he at least get on his knee and officially ask you and put the ring on? Or did you just put it on at the jewelry and ride the bus back home?" I hope that whenever God sends Mr. Amethyst he will make it a propsal to remember. I'm very romantic and hope to have a spouse who appreciates that.

Comment: Cali - You're right that the marriage is more important than the proposal and wedding. Still, this will be my first (and hopefully only) go-round and I hope it's romantic. I believe in compromise, he doesn't have to be Mr. Harlequin, but do something special. Heck, if you don't have ideas, ask some other guys or women you're close to. One (of the several) reasons the last boyfriend and I had to end it was because he is boring and doesn't celebrate holidays, birthdays, or Valentine's Day. I was realistic and knew that I could not spend the rest of my life like that. I didn't even realize that celebrating is important to me until he came to visit for Christmas and didn't buy me a gift. It didn't help that at Christmas dinner my mom and other family asked, "What did __ give you for Christmas?" (Note and I gave him gifts and he said he felt bad, which he should have) We had a long talk. I had never had to explain or discuss commemorations with anyone before because my friends and past boyfriends did the same thing I did. For special occasions you travel, get with family and friends, have dinner, have a birthday cake, etc. So, it was down hill from there. He sent me an email the day AFTER my birthday, apologizing for not sending it on the actual day. Uhhh, you at least could have done an e-CARD. I was so over him by then, anyway, it didn't matter.

Comment: NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Metro police said a 6-year-old brought drugs to school Monday. Police found seven grams of marijuana and two grams of rock and powder cocaine in the child's pockets. The student at Tom Joy Elementary School went to the teacher to show her what he found at home. The teacher immediately took the student to the principal's office. The child is developmentally challenged. There are nine students in his classroom. Police said no other students came into contact with the drugs. It didn't appear that the drugs were disturbed. The school was placed on lockdown until dismissal Monday afternoon. "We believe that she didn't know that the school was aware that he had the drugs on him," said Sgt. Anna-Maria Williams. "So she was trying to get to the school to get them off of him." The child's 27-year-old mother, Arthia Burrows received drug and child endangerment charges Monday. Police also are searching for her brother, who is wanted for arrest. He hasn't been charged yet. Police said the curious 6-year-old gave them all the information they needed to take down a known drug house in East Nashville. He told police he had his mother's "smokes."

Comment: ST. PETERSBURG -- A photographer for tbt*/Tampa Bay Times was beaten and robbed Monday night near the Vintage Ultra Lounge in downtown St. Petersburg, where he had gone to cover a celebrity's birthday party. Luis Santana, 25, learned that hip-hop artists Chris Brown and Rihanna were celebrating Brown's 19th birthday at a private party in St. Petersburg. He talked to the Vintage security and was told he could take photographs outside, Santana said. When he photographed Brown in a black Excursion or Expedition limousine, security guards chased him and forced him to the ground, Santana said. One guard put his knee on Santana's jaw and when he tried to push it away, the guards took his camera, worth about $3,000. Santana said he has abrasions and bruises on his chest, back and arms. "I’ve shot many many celebrities and this was just another notch on my belt," Santana said. "Then it just turned sour." Police said there could be four male suspects who are bodyguards, but their names are unknown. The suspects left the scene in the limousine. Santana took photos of Rihanna at International Plaza on Monday afternoon (including the photo shown here), and said bodyguards resisted his presence there. Rihanna opened for Kanye West at the Ford Amphitheatre earlier that night. Stephanie Garry, Times staff writer. Posted by Times Editor at 12:22:56 PM on May 6, 2008.

Comment: I was wondering where everybody went... go get yo' eat shortey!!! did anyone watch CSI Miami last night? Alexx is gone.... why was I alll emotional at the end??? ima a mess!!! LOL

Comment: CaliRed I was so heartbroken when she left! Wonder who is going to take her place on the show.

Name: CaliRedbone
Comment: okay, Taz' so Im not a wuss?? LOL, I had to get a tissue, the end was sad... I dunno, but it was good how she left, to take care of the family, least they didnt kill her off! I wonder how Warwicks gonna leave CSI (Vegas) ?? oooh, ok, not gonna say it...

Name: TAZBABY
Comment: No Cali you are not a wuss even though I didn't have a tissue I was sitting there looking sad. They did a good job with her send off and I am happy she left for something good (window for her to come back I hope)

Comment: Cali & Taz - I was sorry to see Alexx leave, too. But why did she have on a 5-foot long weave ponytail? I understand some sisters choose to buy their hair, but can't it look real instead of un-be-weave-able? Warrick is the bomb on the main CSI. I wonder how it will be without him. The word in the press is that he and Khandi Alexander are leaving because the cheddar ain't right. I didn't care when Sarah left, she was so weird and unattractive and her and Grissom's "thing" wasn't realistic. But I can't imagine not looking at cutie-pie Gary Dourdan every week. BTW - Ain't Callie (the Southern-talking girl) aging a lot in the face?

Comment: YLawdY & HersheysKiss and the EUR family: Sorry about not replying sooner. Big Sis believes she will have the victory no matter what the outcome is. She considers herself a servant of God and believes that He commanded her to do what she did. Who can argue with that?

Name: TAZBABY
Comment: Cali I think they are going to send Warwick to rehab for a year or fire him.

Comment: amethyst> is it me or does Khandi looked like she had some work done on her face. She looks very diff compare to the intro.

Comment: LOL@" un-be-weave-able" ... yeah Ame' it was a bit lonnnngggg....LOL, I wanted to see the husband.. shoot and why didnt they go back to the house? dang, it was her last show...

Name: YLawdY
Comment: MrsPhoenix....Can't argue with conviction. Is she prepared to possibly be without a job because of her statements?

Name: amethyst
Comment: Taz - Gary Dourdan was leaving anyway, before he got arrested last week. I hope they don't write him off the show with a negative story line. BluLuv - Maybe that's what it is, I thought maybe that 5-foot ponytail was pulling Khandi's face back. Her overbite seemed to be more pronounced. Maybe you're right, she had some work done.

Comment: MCCAIN MUST BE STOPPED IN NOVEMBER. McCain pledges more conservative judges WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. John McCain moved to shore up his support among conservatives by pledging Tuesday to nominate strict-constructionist judges to the federal bench. "It will fall to the next president to nominate hundreds of qualified men and women to the federal courts, and the choices we make will reach far into the future," the presumptive Republican presidential nominee said during a speech at Wake Forest University in North Carolina. "My two prospective opponents and I have very different ideas about the nature and proper exercise of judicial power," he said, referring to Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. "We would nominate judges of a different kind, a different caliber, a different understanding of judicial authority and its limits." Watch more of McCain's comments » Many conservative members are suspicious of McCain on the issue of judges because of his involvement in 2006 in the so-called Senate "gang of 14." That bipartisan group of senators sought to reach a consensus on President Bush's judicial appointees, blocking some of the president's most conservative nominations while promising to confirm others. The group formed after the then-Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist threatened to remove the ability to filibuster judicial nominations after Democratic senators blocked a number of Bush nominees. McCain also directly criticized Obama for not voting to confirm Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, saying the Illinois senator's justification of that decision sounded like it was written by an "activist judge." "Apparently, nobody quite fits the bill except for an elite group of activist judges, lawyers, and law professors who think they know wisdom when they see it -- and they see it only in each other," McCain said of Obama. In response to McCain's speech, Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean said the Arizona senator has a "radical, right wing judicial philosophy." "It's clear he's the wrong choice to safeguard that future," Dean also said. "No matter how far they have gone to restrict our fundamental rights or their clear records of gutting the reforms John McCain claims to care about, he has put loyalty to his party and a radical agenda ahead of the American people."

Comment: Nail Number Three: Obey God Our lives are made up of choices—difficult forks in the road where we must decide to choose God’s way or to pursue our own. And as Moses said to the children of Israel, the choice is really not between right and wrong but between life and death (see Deuteronomy 30:15-16). The prophet Amos said it very succinctly: “Seek the LORD that you may live” (Amos 5:6). Truly, the only sure path to life is found in obedience to God and His Word. So when you don’t feel like loving your spouse, obey God. When you’re tempted to steal or to compromise your integrity, obey God. When your boss asks you to do something you shouldn’t, obey God. When your lusts and passions are telling you to give in, obey God. When you’re suffering and feel like quitting, obey God. When the easiest thing to do is nothing, obey God. When you feel like being lazy, obey God. Whatever choice you may be facing, obey God . . . and live!

CALI and TAZBABY>Amethyst and I were talking about that "weave" during commercials last night, and I told her that Alexx had to "look good" on the show!!! Comment: YLawdY: She SAYS she is, but honestly, I don't think she is prepared to be w/o a job. She has been in HR all her life...and she is used to a certain lifestyle. She has a pretty expensive home in the suburbs; paying for her previous home (still unsold after almost a year), and an expensive car.

Name: MrsPhoenix
Comment: YLawdY: And while she is standing up NOW, it's a little "johnny come lately" because she hasn't stood up before (except for her own self-interests). This is why I question the "God made me do it" response she says whenever she can; she has used God as an excuse for not helping family, friends or the community KNOWING that she received help in terms of money and mentoring at the sunrise of her career. And as for her LOVE for white people...dear God, this is why will be a life-changing experience for her. We're not n*ggas in the eyes of God, but we certainly are to white people in their wrath!

Name: amethyst
Comment: Phoenix - Since your sister trusts in the Lord and knows HR much better than the average person, if she has to look for something else she'll probably be in a good position to find something. And hopefully she has a stash put away. I'm working on building a good savings balance 'cause you never know what life may bring.

Name: amethyst
Comment: Phoenix - You dropped some serious wisdom about race matters. When the going gets tough, that's when you find out who is truly your friend, black or white.

Name: MrsPhoenix
Comment: *cyberhugs amethyst* Thank you. Let me drop else on you (and everybody here): the man (who is white and Jewish) who put her on admin. leave is her MENTOR! The last 3 HR jobs she's had (a gas company in Michigan, City of Toledo and Lucas County) were due to this man. Every position he had at those places, he brought my sister right along with her (UNDER him, of course). Now she's shocked at what he's done, feeling betrayed, etc., never realizing that he was USING her by having a Black face get rid of "meddlesome negros".

Name: amethyst
Comment: Phoenix - And at the end of the day, the man is not going to allow harm to come to him because of hot water your sister brought to him. He'll let her go to save himself. Today on another board (I think the Oprah one) Khufu said that we still aren't free. As long as our livelihood, employment and wealth are dependent upon others' actions, we aren't free. That's why it's so important to never forget that it should be all about you, because it's always all about them. Take the opportunities and use them to benefit yourself by getting education, knowledge, and building wealth. When your wealth and as-sets are tight, no one can control you. If the guy is really a friend if he has to let your sister go to restore calm to the campus and city he will help your sister find something else. I hope she won't be surprised if he flips the script and as-serts that she messed him up or betrayed him. "After all I've done for you, how can you put ME in this position? I have to let you go?" Again, it's always about ME and US; not YOU and YOURS.
