Comment: What a wonderful, thought-provoking remembrance from a son to his mother! I can relate to every instance stated in this poem. As a mother, I can understand what he's saying about his hidden feelings of love and hatred for his mother, the duality of emotions. This is a book that I must have ... Kudos to Mr. Powell!

Comment: I am not hating on this man's poem. In fact, this is very similar to my life exisitence in the presence of my late, duly loved mother! I received spankings and harshness, but you no what? I am so eternally grateful for it, because without it there's no telling what type of man I would havwe become?! I love my child-rearing ways that my late mother established. At the time we as kids think the parent is totally abusinve, but when you become an adult you tend to realize without someone guiding you to do better you would have failed from the start! I love mother's, especially Black mother's because of the strength they must possess, and frailty they sometime show only to close family member's or friends. My mother was the bomb and I do miss her sooooo! I love you Mommy! From a loving son!

Comment: OMG, this was a wonderful poem. I loved also that a man was able to open up and write such beautiful words!!! Before ya'll start, I know that there are men with feelings out there, it's just not often that they are highlighted. Bravo Mr. Powell.
