Comment: Of course he had to change the damn title, even his hardcore fans were threatening to boycott it. I bet he's feeling a lil silly now. *rolling eyes*. The content was never the issue, its the title that was the problem. Def Jam is not a charity, if they're investing in Nas they'd want to make their money back. Most mainstream outlets woulda been too uncomfortable promoting an album with that kinda title and probably decided not to go there, so no promotion - no sales.

Comment: "The streets have been waiting for this for a long time. The people will always know what the real title of this album is and what to call it." Just...wow. lol Is there anything more sad than seeing a once respected fall off? Dude has made himself irrelevant with all his foolery. Quite sad. :(

Comment: C'mon now, we know the real reason...Mufasa, Khalid and 'nem told that lil muthafuccer they'd stomp his black azz if he didn't change that dayum title...He can say whateva...even old azz Mr. Willie and Miss Lula Mae Jackson told him they'd fucc his azz up if he didn't change that title...I saw some elders gathering switches and sh1t to whup his azz with...Dayum right HE HAD TO CHANGE THAT TITLE...

Name: McNasty
Comment: Better it have no title than that one. Too bad it's all about the bottom line and not a new found sense of self coupled with a healthy dose of plain old self respect! Nicca!

Comment: Boot you done lost your mind!lmao

Name: lucyrose
Comment: LOL LOL LOL @TRAIN & BOOTS LOVE YOUR POSTS U R A FOOL LOL LOL OH YEAH FORGOT ABOUT THE TEE SHIRTS

Name: Luke_Cage
Comment: Siiigh... I had no doubt that this album would NOT be released with that title. Not in 2008 it wouldn't. He had to have known that going in, but what a way to draw attention to a new release. Usually, rappers are out there making believe they are victims of a car jacking or shooting their friends in the stomach over money. But this way, no law enforcement involved. Very clever Nas. -lol

Name: Closet_Nerd_Girl
Comment: "The people will always know what the real title of this album is and what to call it." EXACTLY. That's why nobody is going to buy it. OR those insipid T-shirts! (shout-out to Train)

Name: Closet_Nerd_Girl
Comment: LMBAO @ Boot!!! Honey, you KNOW they done took 3 switches each and braided them together to "tap his legs" with. LOL!!!!

Comment: What was this kid thinking when all this came about? Was it to pub the album? He had to have knmew how much of a firestorm this was going to cause. Either way I'm glad that he saw the light and hopefully these other cats will follow suit.

Comment: What a total fuvkin loser...Nas and Kelis whack azz should go jump off the brooklyn bridge some damn where...

Name: MorrisOKelly
Comment: Sanity wins out...and so much for him using this as a "publicity" stunt. There's no mileage in releasing a statement that says there's no publicity now to be had. Black people 1...ignorance 0.

Name: Sexee
Comment: Nas, get you some bidness! You are a modern day coon dressed in pro-black attire.. Your no better than flavor flav.

Name: Southernbelle
Comment: If you're so passionate about your title why not release your cd underground? Seeings how "the streets have been waiting for this". I know you won't b/c it's less about passion and more about pesos. I still like your flow Nasir but I cannot/will not support this one.

Name: bnww
Comment: How ridiculous to even WANT to name an album by that name. We've got to get beyond the N-word, folks -- it's not working for us. And you know why? BECAUSE IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO. We must educate-empower.com...

Name: MzTee
Comment: Damnit Southerbelle if you don't get of my head...I was going to write the same dang thang (LOL). His decision to drop the n-bomb as his album's title has nothing to do with him seeing the light of day or coming to his senses but rather seeing the loss of dollar bills. The good old love of money won this round.

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: Nas..don't backtrack. Name the CD NYGGER and whoever don't want to buy it..wont. In fact, the people complaining won't be buying ne of ur CD's neway. All these negroes pizzing fits over a damn word. Get a life. PS..please let the damn album be good or i'ma be real mad at cha.

Name: blackdragon
Comment: When I heard about this, I was glad Nas finally saw the errror of his ways. It's obvious the man is not as good as he used to be and his last few albums were huge flops in the sales department. I believe he did this for publicity. He knew he couldn't get away with that stunt. As MsBlake put it, the content or songs were not the issue. The title was. Of course, some people who supported this garbage gave excuses like "Nas is a punk for backing down" or "free speech." This isn't a free speech because it applies to the government, not ordinary citizens who have the right to free %*$embly (i.e. boycott). As for the punk statement, he's not a punk for doing this. It shows he has some decency and class. However, after everything he has done, he is, without a doubt, a fool.

Comment: That brother saw 'dem dere mounting bills in the mailbox, and had a wake up call.

Name: MsBlake
Comment: Co-sign MZ Tee & 6footah and others. I believe Nas thought he could actually get away with this title, before folks start showering him with praise talking about 'he saw the light', pls remember, he did not have a choice!!!

Name: B00TANEB00TUS
Comment: He coulda called it the river Niger album and got over...The graphic department woulda had to cross out a g...What 'bout the Swarzen-negger album?...Nobody woulda said sh1t then...Ni(agra)gger Album...Yeah, if he wanted to...But I still think Black folks woulda whupped his azz for that sh1t...

Comment: Get ready for a long comment. Musbdherbs, the First Amendment is an amendment to the U.S. Constitution, prohibiting Congress from interfering with freedom of religion, speech, %*$embly, or petition. The text of the amendment is: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to %*$emble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." In other words, the First Amendment prevents politicians from city council members to the president from passing laws that interferes with our freedom of %*$embly, petition, religion, and speech. However, it doesn't prevent Americans like me to speak out against foolishness and stupidity. I believe in in freedom of speech WITH RESPONSIBILITY. There is no such thing as absolute free speech. Everything has a consequence and speech is one of them. Don Imus, anyone? Freedom always comes with responsibility and consequence. Freedom of speech does not mean you are exempt from criticism or backlash from society. Far too often, rappers and other people have used the Constitution as a coward's way of justifying their own greedy, self-serving agendas. Freedom of speech states you have the right to speak your mind without fear of criminal prosecution. It does not exempt you from people boycotting your album, record stores refusing to sell your album, or radio stations refusing to play your album. Now, I fully agree that no one should be ever criminally prosecuted based on lyrics (barring a complete confession to a crime on wax), but just because you can, doesn't mean you should and if you do, it does not mean we should support you.

Comment: "Of course, some people who supported this garbage gave excuses like "Nas is a punk for backing down" or "free speech." This isn't a free speech because it applies to the government, not ordinary citizens who have the right to free as.sembly (i.e. boycott)." So it isn't a free speech issue because it doesn't apply to the gov't? But it is a free speech issue because people have a right to protest what they find unacceptable abuses of free speech. I think you are conflating the judicial interpretation of the 1st amendment to make a point against Nas. It IS a free speech issue. You just have a right to object to it if it offends you. Don Imus was subject to FCC regulations due to the broadcast of his show. "Free speech" wasn't his defense. It really isn't the same as a rapper/writer titling their book as they see fit.

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: and we're not gonna agree on this neway soooo.......

Name: DOne
Comment: >musb, I don't understand how this is a freespeech issue. Nas has the choice of releasing the cd under the original name. There are other distribution means other than the big department stores. He could have provided it for download only. Although I might disagree, I would have more respect for him if he stuck to his guns. By caving it appears that it was just about the $$ which makes the whole thing seem like just another marketing ploy.

Name: adifferentpath
Comment: BOOT you are a fool! the River Nyger album- LOL. I'm in tears!!....LOL

Name: TesticAl
Comment: blackdragon, you don't know what you were speaking of. Nas' last few albums were huge flops in the sales department? Come on my nig, since when has Nas ever sold a lot of albums? He goes 2x platinum at best. ALL of Nas' albums are platinum except Hip Hop Is Dead! How are his last few albums huge flops? You're killin' me. You claim you hate rap music so much, yet you keep up with it and stay posting in rap related threads. Sup with that?

Name: HarrisThomas
Comment: free speech has nothing to do with this nonsense, this comment really says it all for me: Name: MorrisOKelly Comment: Sanity wins out...and so much for him using this as a "publicity" stunt. There's no mileage in releasing a statement that says there's no publicity now to be had. Black people 1...ignorance 0.

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: DOne, free speech is what allows Nas to release the CD under original name. If it's not and we are talking about his ability to title the CD as he see fit, what exactly do you call that right? Personal perogative? A hunch? I think he should've left the CD titled as is and damn wut the hip-hop mafia has to say. For that reason, I won't be buying it and will get the bootleg version. Their opinions are like azzholes. No need in caving to pressure when you're supposed to be so pazzionate about it. That does sounds like a marketing ploy. AL, dragon doesn't like hip-hop, r&b, classical, gospel and I can't think what else so please excuse him, he knows not what he speaks about.

Name: DOne
Comment: musb, but nothing is stopping him from releasing the cd under the orginal name. Now, the sales might not be as high because certain outlets won't carry it, but he can release it, none the less. He has the ability to say fvck the stores that won't carry it and stations that won't play it. Having your music carried by any particular store is not a right. I think we would agree that either he cares more about money than principle or the entire thing was just one big marketing ploy from the beginning.

Name: DOne
Comment: However, I would agree that's its a form of censorship

Name: TesticAl
Comment: Herbs I know he doesn't like rap but he loves to talk about it. He told me he likes techno and house music. THA FUCKK? LMAO! That speaks volumes.

Name: ladybyrd
Comment: musbdherbs> What are you talking about? Don Imus and his producer were trying to use "free speech" defense, but no one was buying that bull!

Name: MorrisOKelly
Comment: Free speech is a dialogue...not a monologue. Nas had his say...he wanted the title as N*****. His label and retail outlets "responded" with their say. It was "no." His label has to front the promotion money which is recoupable against CD sales. But CD sales are based on advanced purchases by distributors such as Wal-Mart etc. If they don't pre-buy the CD, the label is not likely to get their money back...and nobody gets paid. Nas' dumb a$$ simply doesn't understand the BUSINESS of this all. Nas is "free" to title his CD whatever he wants, but as long as he's dependent upon other people's capital in which to package and distribute it...they are "free" to say hell no. See that's where we as Black folks never learn. We don't own any means of distribution. Having a "label" doesn't mean jack. It means you control the content of the product, but you lack any and all means in which to have it promoted and/or sold. It means, you ain't rush ISH!!!! As has been said...if he were really trying to make a STATEMENT, he'd release it independently. But it's all about money. And like I always say. If you have to sell it for $18.95 to get your "point" across...you don't have one. It's just modern-day slavery. Hurray for the respect of Black people.

Name: sweetpea
Comment: My respect level went down for Nas when I heard what the title of his upcoming CD would be. I'm glad that the CD title will be changed.

Name: sweetpea
Comment: Thank you bnww for your comment. I agree with you a 100%.
