Comment: According to the political pundits on CNN and FOX, this old geezer is considered a MAVERICK within republican party circles. Translated that means that if he's elected, he'd favor a more humane policy dealing with African-Americans. He would be in favor of a policy that would transport every African-American by air-conditioned Greyhound bus to Charleston, S. C. where we'd be placed on slave ships and returned promptly to Gold Coast and the Bight of Biafra in Africa. The rank and file republicans would favor a policy that we walk (trail of tears?) to Charleston, S. C. and voluntarily board the slave ships so that their party could save money on these ridiculously high gas prices that they've engineered. In life there a very few ABSOLUTES, BUT republicans absolutely detest African-Americans. Bryant Gumbel once stated on live T. V. "any African-American who is republican needs his/her head examined". Condi Rice, Amy Holmes, Clarence Thomas, Stephanie Tubbs-Jones, Colon Powell......HELLO!!

Comment: Okay, I'll start with the positives: This seems to be a decent interview. I applaud him for giving it and I applaud him for speaking in Selma and for his upcoming appearance at the NAACP convention he skipped last year. He could easily give a big fat "F U" like George Bush, but he, knowing he'll likely never get a lot of Black folks' votes (esp after continuously voting against the MLK Holiday), decides to engage the Black media anyway, so I give him props for that. Now my true azzessment, lol: I've never been a fan of his. Even b4 I knew a lot about him and used to see him on all the political shows, I thought he was way overrated, and really just a media hound. I don't believe he's a "maverick," he strikes me more as someone who likes attention and goes against the grain sometimes to garner more attention. Beyond that, I've heard he likes to read and is smart, but I have no evidence of that. He honestly seems like a mental lightweight to me, rarely says anything profound or provocative. He's predictable, montone, and boring. And finally, he might be the one person in America more obsessed with being president than Hillary Rodham Clinton--and that's some scary ish. Someone that obsessed with power and fame is a disaster waiting to happen. This is his third run for the high office, THIRD. To me, that says he thinks he's entitled, just like Hillary Clinton. And we can just look at her and see what "entitlement" and "power-obsession" can do to a person. So I'm steering clear of this dude...

I Guess if there is one positive thing out him courting the Black Vote, he is attempting to make an effort. However, is he sincere?(I DON'T TRUST HIM OR THE GOP AND I DON'T BELIEVE THEM)......

Comment: Good post y'all! McCain can't say anything to me about anything. In the last few years it has become painfully obvious how most of these folks feel about us. If you can't tell by their voting records for damn sure you should know by the first thing to fall out of their mouths. It's usually been racist and they, in the end after suffering the impact, have apologized. Insincere, coerced - fell on my deaf ears. McSwing has gone back and forth on his stance on quite a few key issues and now interviews at the black ladies magazine and touts his speech in selma. I'm not buying it - he should have been more careful all along and more considerate of the black community - he knew he wanted to be president and now he needs me - one of the ones he's walk by as if invisible, to accomplish that goal. I'm not buying whatever he's selling - he's bushit in hagar slacks!

Comment: Tonight, in the fullness of spring, with the help of those who stood up from Portland to Louisville, we have returned to Iowa with a majority of delegates elected by the American people and you have put us within reach of the Democratic nomination for president of the United States of America," Obama said Tuesday evening at a rally in Des Moines.
As he nears the Democratic prize, Obama has been concentrating his campaign more and more on John McCain, the Republican nominee-in-waiting, rather than on Clinton.
But Clinton insists she still sees a path to the nomination by winning over the party leaders and elected officials known as superdelegates, whose support will be needed for either candidate to be clinch the nomination.
"Neither Senator Obama nor I will have reached that magic number when the voting ends on June 3," she said Tuesday night in Kentucky. "And so, our party will have a tough choice to make — who's ready to lead our party at the top of our ticket, who is ready to defeat Senator McCain in the swing states and among swing voters."
She also continued to insist that Michigan and Florida Democrats deserve to have their votes counted, a reference to the lingering controversy surrounding primaries in both states held in defiance of Democratic National Committee rules.
Clinton and Obama both planned lunchtime campaign appearances in Florida on Wednesday and Clinton once again underscored the need for Democratic unity in November

Comment: "While we continue to go toe-to-toe for this nomination, we do see eye-to-eye when it comes to uniting our party to elect a Democratic president this fall," she said Tuesday evening.
Clinton won at least 54 delegates in the delegates from Kentucky and Oregon and Obama won at least 39, according to an analysis of election returns by The Associated Press. All 51 delegates from Kentucky were awarded but there were still 10 of 52 to be allocated in Oregon.
Obama has an overall total of 1,956 delegates, including endorsements from party and elected officials known as superdelegates. Clinton has 1,776, including superdelegates, according the latest tally by the AP.

Comment: While I somewhat understand Essence wanting to provide a forum for McStain and his conservative cohorts to address the 'issues' they perceive us to have and will solve (laughable), it is a direct contradiction to their record of working against the working class and those in need. It may have been meant to be a feel good piece but these excerpts are nothing but a magic trick that's about to go horribly wrong if McStain is elected.

Like TGen, I commend his willingness to reach out to Black media, but this is the same old tired rhetoric -- nothing substantive was said. Too little, too late and much, much too light. If Republicans were truly concerned with AAs, they would have a strategy for continuous outreach and engagement to minority communities NOT just during election years. They always pander to us at the last minute and expect us to be grateful because we're a stop on their campaign PR tour.

Comment: Republicans don't trust McCain why should we! Obama currently leads in the polls and he is getting more campaign donations. At this point I think Hillary would be better than McCain. Did you all read that one of McCain main supporters resigned. He resigned because he stated to McCain party if Obama (who he respected) received the nomination that he would not go against OBAMA during general election, this says a lot about how Americans feel.

You know as well as everyone else that had Obama been out of the race or losing badly, McCain would not have two words to say to Black folks about anything. But since Obama is the front runner and has over 80% of Black voters behind him, now McCain wants to talk to us. First it's this Essence article, and then it will be the NAACP national convention in Cincinnati this September. He's fooling anybody.
