Comment: What????HELP pay off her debt? aw heyell no! Just 'cause it's the process, don't make it right. As long as he doesn't make her a running mate, i'm cool with him.

Comment: I don't think he should pay off her debt. She was the crazy one that kept campaigning and spending money she didn't have. That's her fault not Obama's!

Name: fanteeking
Comment: As Roy Rogers and Dale Evans used to sing back in the day, "Happy Trails to you". Obama has to help her with her debt to ensure party unity. He must do all that is humanly possible to stay above the fray to win over her voters. There are a lot of angry, white, female voters who may support McCain or that sorry azz Ralph Nader to demonstrate their hatred for Obama and the press that they declare treated Hillary so badly.

Comment: Pay off her debt? Are you kidding me? Let me get this straight? "BO" has to pay off her debt? To get Billary's endorsement. If this is the way the political game is played. I most certainly wouldn't play it. In the immortal words of "BO". It's time to change business as usual in Washington. In other words I wouldn't pay off nothing. As far as Ralph Nader is concerned. Ralph Nader as a candidate for President. Is a joke at best.Anybody who votes for McCain or Nader needs their head examined. (lol)

Comment: It's a bitter pill to swallow that he has to pay off her debt. It's also a sin and a shame that after all their actions and negative words it seems bill pimped and sillary 'ho'd their way through this election - all on Obama's back. I'm glad he cut the conversation before they got too used to talking about her in reference to the veep position. No matter - I hear the fat lady (who went to jenny craig and is now a curvaceous queen) running through her notes.

Comment: "Clinton wants Obama to assist black officials who endorsed her and who are now taking constituent heat, including, in some cases, primary challenges from pro-Obama politicians." umm I don't think Obama can help her there UNLESS HE BECOMES PRESIDENT... if he loses the election and black officials had anything to do with it, then they've committed political suicide. The mayor in Philadelphia especially comes to mind. He picked the wrong team IN THE WRONG STATE and he's cooked. I gotta chuckle at that one cause I didn't like his attitude.. I only have 1 wish and that is for B.O to NOT pick Hillary as his running mate. I would drink 2 gallons of Clorox and then call 911 and hope they could save me so that I could do it all over again. PLEASE, ANYBODY BUT HILLARY!!!!!!!!

Comment: GHank, I'm not sure I follow your post. What rules? Anyway, I don't know what to think about the paying her debt thing. If that's what it takes to get RID of her, then so be it, lol. And maybe it will calm down her RABID, irrational supporters and warm them up to Obama...maybe. DrKnow, I think you're right about people like that Philly mayor. John Lewis also comes to mind. It'll be interesting interesting to see how their political futures unfold. On the race, Obama REALLY needs to close out with two wins today. HC has beat him a lot over the past couple months. He needs to be able to claim both the popular vote and the delegates just so she can have no more strings to hold onto. He needs to close out with winning momentum. *Crossing fingers*

Comment: Clinton wants Obama to assist black officials who endorsed her and who are now taking constituent heat, including, in some cases, primary challenges from pro-Obama politicians." ...I actually think this applies to Hillary and definitely a whole host of politicians in Harlem. Makes me wonder if Hillary kept running with the intention of Obama using some of his money to help her. I just hope when it's time for re election NY City voters (and NY State if appropriate show her just what they think of her). Bottom line: The democratic party is DEEPLY divided. If Barack Obama can not unite the party, how can he substantiate core of what his campaign is all about. I have all the faith that he can find an appropriate middle without selling out. He never sold out to the Black "old guard" who were trying to fleece him, he didn't out to Wright's antics, so I don't think he will do that here. How does the saying go "when people show you who they REALLY are...believe them the first time!"

COME ON EURWEB...GIVE HIM THE RESPECT DUE..even if the white folks never did back in the days!! ..NOW TO THE CLINTONS...they want Obama to assist the black folks who supported her?? what it sounds like is these black folk who supported HER even though the people who voted them in didnt, now want to come crawling over to the "dark side" and still can show face in their own areas of representation. Black folk dont forget when it comes to re-elections.

Comment: TGen it's one of those rules that continue to help convolute what should be a pretty straightforward process. In a situation like this the person that gets the nomination pays off the debt of the other (if they are in debt). Of course it rarely happens and I think never to this magnitude. Obama, like this article stated, is basically buying their support but it's not unheard of for the primary process to end this way - it's just rare AND unfair - but who said fair and equal has anything to do with the political process.

Comment: Barack may have an appetite for CHANGE but he has even a BIGGER appetite to be PRESIDENT...so bump what all the naysayers on this board say about how he shouldn't help pay off her debts...dang what any of you says, he's going to play the GAME and help pay that debt off...he needs HRC to go and go fast and while she does leave to also calm down her super AVID supporters too that do not think rationally...My first choice was HRC but hey boo lost so now I'm supporting Barack and that's fine. However, I still need a little healing time and I'm not BSing - I'm being straight up. I consider myself to be a rational and logical person and I still need some "cooling off" time - I can only imagine how much "cooling off" time the HRC fanatics will need.....Moving on to Barack assisting black leaders that supported him to quell down some of the backlash in the black community for supporting her. Please he will not have to do much because typically our community has a short memory. Prime example - Last week, my cousin had three of her kids to graduate from high school that night. Sheila Jackson Lee spoke at the graduation. In the beginning of her speech, she was greeted with boos but by the end of her speech they were yelling at the TOP of the lungs...standing all up and ish...it was WILD!!!

Comment: Unlike most Obama supporters, I haven't had a problem with Hillary staying in the race. In fact, all the pressure for her to drop out before now only highlights a flaw in the system in my opinion. The primary season need to be structured differently so that no candidate is able to get the nomination early on; it also needs to be shorter. Look at the Republican side, by McCain winning the nod so early, basically that means that people giving in those states who hadn't held their primaries had no voice. I say let it go all the way to the convention; I just wish it was that way on both sides, otherwise what's really the point of even having a convention in the first place.

Name: realuvbaby
Comment: It's all God's money, anyway. It all belongs to HIM. We are just custodians who are called up to do the right thing. Remember the two loaves and the five fish! Whatevah, as long as she is not the VP candidate, then whatever works. She ran up this debt to buckle him anyway because she could have quit anytime. All this crap and the end result is the same. And now $20 million goes to Hillary as opposed to using that $20 million for the Democratic party to set up the more than 200,000 posts needed for the general election. I'm no fan of Hillary, am so disappointed on how she ran her campaign and how she ended the race, but SHE'S GONE, and now we can move on to the business of capturing the White House and beginning to attempt to repair or at least move ourselves away from, the policies of the last 30 years. We need to go back to the things that MADE America great for everyone who wanted to take advantage of the opportunities rightfully theirs. And our leaders did not use fear, terror and hate to accomplish those goals. GOBAMA 08.

Name: KMJW
Comment: McNasty & et. al - Lets keep it real, OBAMA being the CHANGE candidate that he is does NOT have to help pay HRC's debt off if he really wants to change how Washington is run. He is choosing to do so because he needs HRC. At this point, HRC can make his presidency a living nightmare - 1) She can decided to wait until the Aug convention, 2) She can decide to run as an independent, or 3) She can drop out and just not actively support Barack. Barack cannot survive either of these three because it will be a close general election and just 2-3% of her supporters in key states staying at home or voting for McCain will end Obama's presidency hope. Now if she does this, I can absolutely NOT support her ever again - she's already threading on thin ice with me when whe for whatever reason brought up the subject of %*$assination. But hey HRC does play the GAME well...think about it, she stayed in the primary until the very end hoping to stop Barack by any means necessary and in the end, Barack has to help pay for it. Like I said, HRC is a nice piece of work.

Comment: Hey, McNasty. Agreed. That's why it's politics, but it seems our whole lives have been policitized instead of the process. I balk at those who say Hillary was treated so badly. Homegirl flung enough mud, but when someone fights back or say they ain't havin that sh**, it's now a fight and somebody is getting beat up. Well Boo Hoo Hoo, nothwithstanding all the acrimony, Mr. Obama won the nomination the old-fashioned way. He earned it and I'm proud of the way he ran his campaign and have great faith and hope in his candidacy and his run as President of the United States. I believe leadership inspires and that leadership trickles down. That people emulate the actions and objectives of their leaders. Karl Rove, Reagan, the two Bushes inspired a certain politics; and thus, Mr Obama, I hope will inspire others to do and be better, at least try, because the status quo gots ta go!

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: Obama will not use any of his fundraising totals to as.sist Hellary in paying off her debt. What he can do is agree to fundraise w/her or on her behalf. He will have a much harder time to getting his supporters (LIKE ME) to donate but he can get others who are not as anti-clinton. The whole idea of helping pay off debt is not really a rule. Rather, it's something that has been known to happen. Not a rule though. Re:L the anti-obama black officials, good luck. The idea that they must now come back b4 their own people w/tails 'tween their legs and a hand out will not be forgotten. Yes we do have short memories w/our own. But, we have much longer memories for those who are seen as slavishly choosing a yt candidate over a viable black one. So, we'll see how much they'll be able to come back home. Rest as.sured, these people WILL soon face opponents that they otherwise wouldn't have to. Elijah Cummings (MD) learned that lesson when he lost his 15-term seat. A tide is turning on these black leaders...and that's a good thing. KMJW, I think you give Clinton waaaay too much credit. Her deciding to stay in would damage her...not necessarily Obama. The unknown factor in this election is whether Obama is able to build enough of a coalition in non-traditional blue states to win the nod even w/losing some of her supporters. W/that in mind, him NEEDING her remains to be seen.

Comment: BTW, no one can dispute that Kevin Garnett knows how to ball well. But knowing how to play well and winning the finals are two different things. She and her husband are political masterminds who lost what should have been an easy election. Longstanding political prowess lost this election. The democratic party now belongs to Obama.

Name: Grace12_34
Comment: If it's any consolation, it's not like the money is going to come out of Barack's personal pocket. WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL?! This is about the unification of the Democratic party. If Barack is being crowned, then get this over with, and LET'S MOVE ON. Make a big issue out of this and say hello to President John McCain in January.

Name: realuvbaby
Comment: For all the CHANGE that's got to take place, sometimes ya gotta KISS A*** before you KICK IT. He ain't gonna change nothing unless and until he becomes an insider. When he BECOMES President, he can attempt to CHANGE the rules, but he must play with the rules such as they are, first. This is why I lost respect for her. I felt that she thought that if and when Obama get the nomination, he would be so bloody and wounded, that McCain would win and she would point her face in America's face and say SEE I TOLD YOU I WAS THE ONLY ONE TO BEAT MCCAIN. Yet she did everything she could to knock Obama to his knees, including that %*$assination talk. Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's rain, Hillary. I believe we ALL underestimated Mr. Obama's candidacy, but in the end . . . let the chuch say "W A I L ." GOBAMA 08

Comment: Musbdherbs - Like I said, at the graduation, Sheila Jackson Lee was greeted with boos by the end of her speech that were up on their feet, clapping, and give her mad positive response. I doubt it will take a long time for our community to "get over" black leaders supporting her - will some fall by the wayside - yes - a lot? - probably not....Now, are you joking or serious - Barack doesn't need HRC? PLEASE!!! I can tell you have only been going to Barack Obama's campaign community meetings. Well let me tell you what I see in the HRC campaign community meetings - she has a core base of STUPID supporters that will not vote for Barack unless Hillary comes out and support Barack. These people are MAD, not upset, but MAD. They need HRC at a minimum to come out and say I support Barack for president...if not, what is the purpose of him helping to pay her debts off - what is the purpose? Is Barack doing it just because he likes HRC - get out of here with that line b/c that is pure garbage. He's doing it because he needs her and that's it. Otherwise please provide another rational other than it's been done before.

Name: KMJW
Comment: RealuvBaby > Thanks for keeping it REAL. Barack is kissing HRC %*$ b/c at this point in time, he has too. Eventually he will not have to do that but at this point in time, he has too. To suggest anything else is ridiculous. Please, you couldn't even get Michelle to say she would support HRC if she won the nomination but now all of a sudden Barack is willing to help her fundraise to pay off her debts - please, he needs her for now and that's the bottom line.

Comment: Duh? do you really think white american wants a Black candidate...too much unnecessry uncertainty about stuff we have long let go. I can't co-sign with barack kissing any butt. He hasn't so far and I seriously doubt he'll start now. He's a principled man -- let's not forget that's what got him this far...and let's also remember he got those principles from a white mother.

Name: KMJW
Comment: TGEN > First you have to split them into three categores - 1) Those that will never vote for a brother or sister (and this is not just white folks...you'll be surprised how many hispanics squirm at the end of a black president)...they try to mask it behind other issues about Barack but it's obvious their real issue is because Barack is black - I totally throw these folks the duece and don't waste my energy on them...2) Second group of them are OLDER women that have been waiting all their life to vote for a WOMAN president and they honestly feel she was treated bad by the media because she was a woman. They also believe that Barack "allowed" the media to treat HRC in such a way...they typically view these in a male vs female point view...for instance, many of us watch one of the many interviews btw Keith Olbermann and Barack - I saw the interview one way but when we got to the meeting, these women were %*$!ED at Barack and Keith and vowed to never watch his show again... 3) And finally you have those that are EXTREME LOYALISTS to the CLINTON and anything leading to non-support of HRC is just awful...It is the folks in category two and three that Barack has a bigger chance to influence if HRC comes out and avidly supports him. This primary is the most divisive since the Bush - Gore campaign and that was btw republican - democrat. I'm somewhat young and I have never seen so much disagreement within the democrat party. HRC needs to drop out soon so folks in categories 2 and 3 can heal by the time the general election comes around. The other day, one of them asked me if I wanted to purchase a HRC supporter for John McCain shirt and I just looked at them like WTF?

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: KMJW, I'm not sure if a high school graduation is the appropriate barometer for how blacks will respond to those of the Sheila Jackson ilk. Obviously they are concerned. If they were not, I doubt they would've petitioned (as they did) for Hellary to lobby Obama on their behalf. You rightly noted that a 2-3% (although small) loss of support amongst the Hellarites in a close election is a potential disaster for Obama. That same percentage applies to black officials who may "need" that 2-3% to keep their seats. So I'm not able to say that black people will get over it but yt people will not. Maybe both won't. Unless you can foresee the future it remains to be seen how much he will NEED her in the fall. Conventional wisdom suggests that he will. Conventional wisdom also suggests that these MAD white women will come back home. It's hard to predict the future and then say we can't predict the future in the same breath. Yes I have been going to his meetings. I don't know of a Clinton supporter who has attended ours and vice versa. You don't have to tell me about how her supporters have an emotional detachment from reality. I witnessed at the RBC meeting on Saturday and was standing less than a foot away from her supporter who (while being intereviewed) called obama an "inadequate black male." So yeah, I know the detachment exists.

Comment: What a a shame this country has been exibiting over the last few weeks. First the Supreme Court; A handfull of judges overrule the entire state of California and overturmns a gay marriage ban, one that was "voted" on by the "people". Second; Michigan and Florida decides to seat these delegates, even if they have a half vote, both candidates agreed the votes wouldn't count until Hillary started losing and complaining; we just showed everyone that if you complain enough you can even "break the rules". And now this; If someone wants to leave the campaing trail the other candidates have to buy them off? Man, one would think they're married and people wonder why these other countries fight western influences. One things for sure you won't see me at the polls anymore. I refuse to spend hours waiting to punch a piece of paper only to find out that a handfull of people can decide my voice doesn't count anyway. Why vote??

Comment: Politics or not, I just don't think it ever pays off in the end to 'buy votes' from people that clearly hate you. Those HRC supporters hate Sen Obama for solely existing. Period. I mean I personally think they if they can't get past the fact that he's only 50% White and not 100% like their girl, Hillary, then the Republican Party is who they should vote with in November. That kind of hate belongs with them. And we're talking 'OJ Simpson killed a White woman' hate. And I can see Sen Obama paying off Billary's debt(don't those two have their own money???) and not getting a thing out of it. I mean if this was the reverse, and Sen. Obama was broke and Billary helped him pay it off in exchange for getting his supporters...I just can't see how that would make me support HRC. I don't think it will be enough.

Comment: I say let's go all the way. Make Clinton the Vice. I promise you Obama and Clinton would whip McCain's %*$. As far as the money goes, heck Obama has raised millions of dollars so paying this debt would not be a problem. It is key to remember that "Money talks and bull %*$! walks."

Name: ChiDiva9
Comment: Okay folks - Barack Obama is not the first candidate to have to do this. It is customary. However I do believe that Hillbilly stayed in the race to make it cost him more. I remember two months ago when the buyout would have been only between 4 and 10 million. She clearly wanted to make a brother pay for every vote she can turn over. So he is not kissing butt he is playing the game as it has been played. Believe you me he is no sucker MC - he grew up politically in Chicago and folks here play rough and reconcile and work it when the time comes.

Comment: KMJW - great insight. I have a question to...sorry to put you in the acting representative role :), but I've been curious about this. Your point 2 about people thinking BHO "allowed" the media to treat her that way - - I think a lot of BHO supporters, or at least ones I'm closest to, also felt that HRC "allowed" the media to treat him the way they did. As if he's a closeted Black Panther or something. David Gergen even talked about this last week on CNN...how HRC could and should have come out and said "I know the man, so I know he doesn't agree with these hateful things his former pastor said." But that hasn't come. So genuine question - has this subject ever come up from that angle?

Comment: KMJW, I appreciate the explanation, but honestly #2 does not fly. I was looking for specifics. What SPECIFICALLY did BO and Olb say that outraged them? I'm really curious. My hunch is what LazySusan said. They just hate him for existing, and I can't say it wouldn't be the same if he was White. I don't know if they're racist (some are of course) or if they're just RABID feminists or what. Tinkius, I hope you reconsider not voting. Don't give up yet...

Comment: CHICAGO - History within his reach, Barack Obama was primed to claim the Democratic presidential nomination Tuesday or soon after as voters in Montana and South Dakota bring his months-long contest with dogged rival Hillary Rodham Clinton to a close. Clinton appeared ready to bow to the inevitable and spare the party an even more protracted fight. ADVERTISEMENT Clinton campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe said Tuesday that once Obama gets the majority of convention delegates, "I think Hillary Clinton will congratulate him and call him the nominee." The outcome could come by the end of the day with some choreography by the party's superdelegates. The party insiders were lining up behind Obama at a rate that could seal the nomination once results are in from Montana and South Dakota — or even before. Two more superdelegates endorsed him Tuesday morning, from Michigan and Missouri, leaving him just 40 delegates short of the 2,118 needed to put him over the top and make him the nation's first black presidential nominee from a major party.

Name: bigchassie
Comment: Clinton, once seen as a sure bet in her historic quest to become the first female president, was still pressing the superdelegates to support her fading candidacy. But McAuliffe indicated she was not inclined to drag out a dispute over delegates from the unsanctioned Michigan primary despite feeling shortchanged by a weekend compromise by the party's rules committee that she could still appeal to a higher level. "I don't think she's going to go to the credentials committee," he said on NBC's "Today" show. Taking the matter to that committee would essentially extend the dispute into the convention and deny Democrats the unity they sorely want to achieve against Republican John McCain. Seeing the cards fall into place for his November rival, McCain planned a prime time speech Tuesday night in the New Orleans suburb of Kenner, La., in what is essentially a kickoff of the fall campaign. Obama told The Associated Press on Monday that "we've got a lot of work to do in terms of bringing the party together" with the convention approaching. "Once the last votes are cast, then it's in everybody's interest to resolve this quickly so we can pivot," he said. Obama said there were a lot of superdelegates who have been private supporters of his but wanted to respect the process by not endorsing until the final primaries were done. "We're still working the phones and we're still talking to people ... so we'll certainly have to wait until a little later tonight to see what the final tally is, but we certainly feel good waking up this morning," Robert Gibbs, Obama's spokesman, told CNN on Tuesday. In a defiant shot across the GOP bow, Obama, who returned to hometown Chicago late Monday, planned to hold his wrap-up rally in St. Paul, Minn., at the arena that will be the site of the Republican National Convention in September.

Name: bigchassie
Comment: Clinton returned to New York, the state she represents in the Senate, planning an end-of-primary evening rally in Manhattan after a grueling campaign finale as she pushed through South Dakota on Monday. "I'm just very grateful we kept this campaign going until South Dakota would have the last word," she said at a restaurant in Rapid City in one of her final campaign stops. Polls suggested Obama would win both South Dakota and Montana. She still sounded buoyant. Her biggest booster and most tireless campaigner, husband Bill Clinton, didn't. "This may be the last day I'm ever involved in a campaign of this kind," the former president said somberly as he stumped for her in South Dakota. Ahead of Tuesday's concluding primaries, Obama sought to set the stage for reconciliation, praising Clinton's endurance and determination and offering to meet with her — on her terms — "once the dust settles" from their race. "The sooner we can bring the party together, the sooner we can start focusing on McCain in November," Obama told reporters in Michigan. He said he spoke with Clinton on Sunday when he called to congratulate her on winning the Puerto Rico primary, most likely her last hurrah. That fueled speculation for a "dream ticket" in which Clinton would become Obama's running mate — but neither camp was suggesting that was much of a possibility. In the AP interview, Obama was asked when he would start looking for a running mate. "The day after I have gotten that last delegate needed to officially claim the nomination, I'll start thinking about vice presidential nominees," he said. "It's a very important decision, and it's one where I'm going to have to take some time." Clinton finished a whirlwind four days of campaigning that took her from New York to Puerto Rico to South Dakota and back. For a campaign pushing against long odds, it was a show of determination. The former first lady, suffering from a recurrent cough, had to cede the microphone to her daughter Chelsea twice Monday as she struggled to recover her voice. Chelsea promptly took the opportunity — to discuss health care. __

Comment: Sonnyd > Not in my circle - it has not come up...eventhough I use to always give my initial Barack supporters a hard time about their blind support for Barack, it's the same way on the HRC side - HRC can do no wrong in her supporters' eyes. Luckily I wasn't one of them...yes, I supported HRC but my girl lost and she lost hard but I have always been able to stay objective unlike some...Believe it or not, it was a difficult decision for me when I got to the voting booth - In my head, I went up there knowing that I would vote for HRC but when I got to the booth, I got nervous...seriously...how could i vote for HRC (first viable woman for president) over Barack (first viable black for president). In the end, I chose to vote for HRC because I honestly thought that she would do a better job. Like I said my girl lost and now I have enough common sense and humility to support/vote Barack. Some democrats don't function like that and it's a shame.

They are really on the "they are only doing that because she's a woman" tip. That's the subject of almost all of their conversations. For instance, did you see the last interview btw Keith and HRC. In the meeting after that interview, they swore up/down and that Keith was confrontational with HRC unlike his giddiness with Barack in previous interviews. Comment: KMJW - Interesting stuff. Yeah, I guess there are some like that on both sides. I'm an HR person, so it's an occupational hazard that causes my objectivity :) I can see how that would be a hard choice to make for a black woman between BHO and HRC. I personally had been a supporter of his since the DNC convention in 2004 and started following him, reading his books, etc. I'd always been an HRC supporter, too, but he just made sense to me. And she has just really shown me something through this process...I'm really disappointed. But oh well, those are breaks. Thanks for the insight, though!

Comment: No, no, no. This is wrong on a couple levels. First, it looks like he is paying her a bribe for her to back out, when he doesn't need to do that. The delegates and soon to be superdelegates will be in his favor. He doesn't need to pay her to leave. She should do that on her own anyway. She made that bed with the debt, so she should lie in it. Billy has enough money to pay it off once she drops out. Secondly, he doesn't need hers or Billy's support that badly. It might even be a detriment to his campaign to have them out stumping for him. They have shown their true colors during this process, and people are tired of them. Also, he already has to keep fighting an image problem because of what somebody else in his inner circle did, and the Republicans will come up with more garbage to throw at him. This payoff won't help.

Comment: TGen...they really do suffer from a severe case of detachment realiticus..lol. These people don't analyze the news they just base their opinions on those who are in support of their candidate and against Obama. Case in point, the protestors were there to protest the votes NOT being counted. When they were counted, they started saying that she was being forced out of the race and how unfair the process was. They don't know WHY they are mad...they are just MAD. I talked to one women (old and white) who was initially screaming about inequality while watching the coverage downstairs. She went from that too literally crying and I mean crying. I asked her when was Obama sexist and she brought up the incident where obama "brushed the dirt of his shoulder" in response to the ABC/Hellary debate. She was CONVINCED that the move was sexist. Yet, she admitted that no one...and I mean no one has been racist in this campaign BUT the Obama campaign. There were hoards of them vowed NEVER to vote for Obama because he was trying to push Hellary out and was a blatant sexist.

Comment: The article was a bit irresponsible in its use of the term "pay off her debts." Federal election law prevents other candidates from paying off the debts of other candidates. What Barack CAN do is assist her with fundraising to cover the debts incurred in her campaign. While I have some hard feelings about this since she should have been out of the race (and hence having a lower tab) a month or more ago, I could understand if he were game. But, I believe that bringing her on to his ticket as VP would be a mistake.

I saw a lady cry at our county convention too - her crying blew my mind - I couldn't understand why she was crying and her response was that she can't believe we are bypassing the best candidate for the job b/c the candidate just happened to be a woman. It's pure passion is all that I can say.

Comment: Nope, nope, nope. It is a good thing EUR does not allow profanity, b/c there would be some strong words here. However, Hillary loan her own campaign money. That was her dream. Obama raised money from the people...Hillary paid for her own, which says a lot....i.e., people would not contribute to her campaign. If Obama agees to take on her debts, then I thing the GOP will really run with that. In other words, their are going to say Obama is trying to purchase the positon of president. This is a bad ideal.

Comment: KMJ, yes I saw it firsthand and was AMAZED. I read blog but I never thought I would witness the insanity. Most of those in the meeting were rude and constantly interrupted the proceedings. They booed, yelled and everything else. They complained about Obama TAKING votes. The person (Aussman or some'n like dat) who filed the initial Florida suit wanted the delegates seated as they were voted on. The Obama camp didn't protest but AGREED w/that. It was the Hellary reps who were cried foul EVEN THOUGH the committee voted in the same way the Dem party in Fl voted AND the person who filed the suit. You should have seen how heads turned when the lady called obama an inadequate black male. Many of us were like WTF? Believe you me, there is no shortage of Hellary supporters who feel as if she's being treated badly cuz she's a woman. The irrational part of it is that she is (according to her twisted logic) has had more people vote for her than ne1 in history. Yet, they say the race is fixed in Obama's favor. I do believe that these old white women have set the feminist agenda back a couple of decades.

Comment: WASHINGTON - Hillary Rodham Clinton will concede Tuesday night that Barack Obama has the delegates to secure the Democratic nomination, campaign officials said, effectively ending her bid to be the nation's first female president. ADVERTISEMENT Obama is 40 delegates shy of clinching the nomination, but he is widely expected to make up the difference Tuesday with superdelegate support and votes in South Dakota and Montana. Once he reaches the magic number of 2,118, Clinton will acknowledge that he has secured the necessary delegates to be the nominee. The former first lady will stop short of formally suspending or ending her race in her speech in New York City. She will pledge to continue to speak out on issues like health care. But for all intents and purposes, the two senior officials said, the campaign is over. Most campaign staff will be let go and will be paid through June 15, said the officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to divulge her plans.

Name: bigchassie
Comment: The advisers said Clinton has made a strategic decision to not formally end her campaign, giving her leverage to negotiate with Obama on various matters including a possible vice presidential nomination for her. She also wants to press him on issues he should focus on in the fall, such as health care. Universal health care, Clinton's signature issue as first lady in the 1990s, was a point of dispute between Obama and the New York senator during their epic nomination fight. Clinton was at home in Chappaqua, N.Y., with her husband, former President Clinton, and was placing calls to friends and supporters. On NBC's "Today Show," Clinton campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe said that once Obama gets the majority of convention delegates, "I think Hillary Clinton will congratulate him and call him the nominee." In a formal statement, the campaign made clear the limits of how far she would go in Tuesday night's speech. "Senator Clinton will not concede the nomination," the statement said. Clinton field hands who worked in key battlegrounds said they were told to stand down, without pay, and await instructions. Speaking not for attribution because they didn't want to jeopardize their jobs searches, many said they were peddling resumes, returning to their hometowns or seeking out former employers. Clinton officials have said they would not contest the seating of Michigan delegates at the convention in Denver this August. The campaign was angry this past weekend when a Democratic National Committee panel awarded Obama delegates it thought Clinton deserved

I was wondering for the longest (esp. after that Ronald Reagan thing waay back in the primary when Hill and Bill blatantlay lied about what BO said to that newspaper, that's when I first started seeing the light, lol) how people could keep supporting a liar, even after Bosnia sniper and RFK azzazzination. Now I realize we're dealing with sickos, nutcases, people who are not all there. NOW I see how Hillary was able to keep winning! I understand, but it does not make me feel better, it makes me kinda scared. There may be virtually no way for BO to pull in these type of uninformed, emotion-driven, irrational voters. Comment: WASHINGTON (AFP) - Democratic White House candidate Barack Obama has pulled ahead of Republican John McCain in the latest Gallup voter opinion survey, published Tuesday in USA Today. ADVERTISEMENT Obama lead McCain 47 to 44 percent, in a reversal from Gallup's findings a month ago, which saw McCain ahead of Obama 47 to 45 percent. Both leads are within the poll's four point margin of error. A matchup pitting Hillary Clinton against McCain saw the former first lady with a sharper advantage of 49 percent versus 43 for the presumptive Republican nominee, Gallup found. Obama was favored to win Tuesday's final two primaries in Montana and South Dakota and also to clinch the Democratic nomination, possibly in the same day. The poll found that 58 percent of Americans have a positive image of Obama, 56 view McCain favorably and 54 have a good opinion of Clinton. But President George W. Bush's approval rating was just 28 percent. And the poll depicted Americans as pessimistic about their buying power, with 55 percent saying they are worse off now than they were a year ago and just 26 percent saying the reverse. Americans have not been so gloomy since 1976, Gallup said, adding that such sentiment generally leads voters to oust whatever political party is currently in the White House.

Comment: Hillary's life is just full of chaos and confusion. She thrives on drama. All this back and forth today is what the country and superdelegates need to see, to further understand that this woman does not need to be president of anything. She is absolutely unstable and overwhelmingly manipulative. One of the reasons they denied the statement is because voters won't come out for her today if they think the race is over. Harold Ickes told a House Member today that it was over, yet Terry McCauliffe goes on record saying it isn't. It's just never-ending and unnecessary drama with her. So freaking immature. They shouldn't have said anything at all. I can't stand her. She refuses to let Barack have his moment. Just refuses. He BETTER not pick her as his VP. Her and Bill are misery.

These people live in alternate universes from the rest of us. I believe "those" people are a lost cause. Interestingly enough, of all her supporters protesting outside the meeting, I would say that most of them were old, white women. Comment: Clinton denies she'll concede tonight From news services Published on: 06/03/08 CHICAGO — Hillary Rodham Clinton will acknowledge Tuesday night that Barack Obama has the delegates to secure the Democratic nomination, the Associated Press reported, citing campaign officials. Clinton's campaign issued a statement denying the report. Clinton said she was "absolutely" not prepared to admit Obama has beaten her in the race, according to Terry McAuliffe, her campaign chairman. Reports saying she was ready to concede are "100 percent incorrect," McAuliffe told CNN. Obama "doesn't have the numbers today, and until someone has the numbers the race goes on," McAuliffe told CNN. For every one shady person BO may know, HC knows 20! lol Scandals plagued the Clinton presidency. The lady has A LOT of dirt that a real opponent (Repubs) would be more than happy to bring up. There's even stuff dating back to her pre-Bill days, when she was a young lawyer and got fired for trying to do some shady stuff during the Nixon impeachment. Oh yeah, you won't hear a lot about that, but trust, the lady has A LOT of skeletons. Comment: Hillary is not to be trusted. She's too bitter to entrusted with the vice-presidency of the united states. I can see her totally going against the president, to embarrass and humiliate him/her, not caring that how you treat others speak more about you than the person or person you are mistreating. After all this, and not even conceding at this point, she'd never settle for VP. Her ACTIONS are very telling and she comes across as bitter, to me -- a victim and we need strength in our government, not folk with axes to grind. But, let Hillary do Hillary with all her issues of integrity, etc. She shouldn't be handed jack because her husband was president. She's where she is like most of us, because of the decisions and choices she has made. This time, it didn't work out for her. Oh, comma well, June 5 will be here in two days and Hillary will be forced out of her misery. Anybody who ever crossed a Scorpio knows, it'll take 50 years, but you will be paid back for going against her. <<loll>> Scorpios HATE TO LOSE . . . she's got that venom and she's not afraid to use it. I question her judgment, I really, really do.

Comment: AP tally: Obama effectively clinches nomination By DAVID ESPO and STEPHEN OHLEMACHER - The Associated Press Published 10:44 am PDT Tuesday, June 3, 2008 Barack Obama effectively clinched the Democratic presidential nomination Tuesday, based on an Associated Press tally of convention delegates, becoming the first black candidate ever to lead his party into a fall campaign for the White House. Campaigning on an insistent call for change, Obama outlasted former first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton in a historic race that sparked record turnout in primary after primary, yet exposed deep racial divisions within the party. The AP tally was based on public commitments from delegates as well as more than a dozen private commitments. It also included a minimum number of delegates Obama was guaranteed even if he lost the final two primaries in South Dakota and Montana later in the day. The 46-year-old first-term senator will face Sen. John McCain of Arizona in the fall campaign to become the 44th president. Clinton was ready to concede that her rival had amassed the delegates needed to triumph, according to officials in her campaign. These officials said the New York senator did not intend to suspend or end her candidacy in a speech Tuesday night in New York. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they had not been authorized to divulge her plans.

Comment: TGen, like you I also evolved to where I could see an Obama/Clinton ticket. I wasn't altogether happy about it, but I resigned that on a number of levels it made sense. I've since gone back to my initial position that it does not make sense. There are personality issues between Barack and Hillary and Bill that I just cannot see working smoothly. Let's face it, Hillary and Bill have been bought by a number of their big money donors. There issues are very similar to John McCain's lobbyist issues. Hillary would use the VP spot as a de facto presidency ala Dick Cheney. Bill would use his wife's role as a defacto presidency. And I sincerely believe that any Clinton participation in Obama's presidency destroys his brand of change and grassroots support from and by the people. Plus, she and her husband have said some dirty things about Obama, down to Bill's comments about Barack yesterday while ranting about the less-than-favorable Vanity Fair article. It's really difficult for me to see Barack joining forces with Hillary when she and her posse can't seem to separate his name from the trash.

Comment: Grace, I disagree. Barack needs the majority of voters to win...not a landslide. The last two elections were won w/in a 2 point margin. Again, it's not "standard" for the winning candidate to help pay off debt, it's something that "has been done." Professo, Cheney changed the definition of VP which mos def increased the importance of that slot. That is one of the many reasons I do not support such a ticket. W/both Hellary and her uncontrollable husband in the yt house, Obama will be sandbagged. It's one thing to "want" the ticket so that he can win. It's another to not even consider his ability to govern if that happens. Moreover, it sounds great in theory. But, we (along w/the media's help) seem to 4get the Clinton legacy. We should not, for one minute, think that the Repubs do not have a ready-made arsenal against that ticket. the media (and other hellary supportets) will have you believe that he "needs" her on the ticket to win. I do not agree. If Obama has baggage, Hellary has the entire Samsonite luggage section at Macy's.

Comment: Creenj: You nailed it on the head, most supporters on both sides "can't promote their candidate w/o insulting the other person"...I had this conversation with Musbdherbs a while back...In the end, like you said, the Clinton name carries weight and yes some of that weight has been reduced but nevertheless it still has enough weight to make 2%-3% or maybe more of her supporters stay home and not vote or vote for McCain. Going back to another comment - Because something has been done before doesn't make it a necessity to do again. Negative campaigning has worked a million times in the past but it didn't seem to work out this time for you-know-who. Point is, BO does NOT have to help HRC pay off her debts by holding joint rallies. He just doesn't and I don't care how old you are or what has been done in the past. It's Barack's choice to do so and that's that....Moving on to the next hot topic, HRC camp says she's not conceding but will say that Barack has enough delegates to win...so she's doing the same thing that Romney do and just suspend her campaign...that way if Barack messes up, she's there to fill in the gap.

Comment: Taurusingr, we're here > < today, homey. They won't let it go, but if and when he does get it, he'll be hobbling, bloody and barely standing on one leg. She can't tap into his popular base, but we git them in the pocket and that'll slow him down. I read also about Hillary on CNN, somebody said: Hillary's motto is if you can't stand the heat, strike a match and burn down the darn kitchen and everything standing in it's path. I mean, if it's not her who is winning, what does she care. It's not just Hillary, I believe it's her deeply-pocketed sponsors who have too much to lose by allowing to just walk away with dignity. Mr. Obama was underestimated, plain and simple. I had my Michelle Obama moment when Obama began to win. I never believed that the majority of Americans was even ready to entertain the idea of Obama being a candidate, far less a President, but when I saw the win in Iowa and begin to see the Clintons self-destruct, for the first time in my life . . . I am proud to see that America may very well be color blind if the powers that be who insist on being move out of the way. Many of us just want some good leadership, and we don't care if it's a man, woman, black or white, just a good leader who is God fearing, whom we can respect and who can inspire others to be their very best, instead of being at their best greed for power and is willing to put America first.

Comment: The paying off of debt is common; the losing candidate's debt gets absorbed into the general election fund. It is to help pay for the people that worked on the campaign among other things. That is why John Edwards "suspended" his election, rather than quit. The surplus that Sen. Obama raised was for the primary, there's still money for the Presidential election to be made, and some is already in the bank. I will be suprised if she steps down tonight, she very well may, but I don't see it unless the SDelegates show their cards heavy tonight after the results.
