Comment: If those designers wanted black models they could get them.
It's not like there aren't any, there are black models and black agents to book them so that's a bunch of bull.
My question is, are there any black designers featured in fashion week?
And for the people that continue to spend their hard earn money on the white designers overpriced clothes, shoes, purses and luggage, but they can't make an effort to find black models that are available to put in their shows? Give me a break if black models were used in the 60's when it was more difficult for our people to do much of anything they can certainly be found today.

Comment: Because models travel all the time wouldn't it make sense for them to send a rep here or at least connect with one of the agencies here? Hell they can even call Tyra - I'm sure she knows some! The fact is one of their white models thought she could fly and jumped off her balcony in manhattan last week so they might not find any black ones with that cloud not yet disipated!

absolutely right, missgee. we as consumers can make our demands heard through our pocket books. i don't have the figures off hand, but i'd guess african americans spend a good chunk of income on designer clothes. if we withheld some of that cash from the marketplace until we saw more reflections of ourselves in the fashion world (both designers and models), the industry would have to take note.
better yet-i'm all about the noi's concept of doing for self. why not create our own fashion empires?

Comment: Well said everyone. And let's not forget about all the black celebrities who flock to the fashion shows. I wonder if they notice the lack of black models or if they even care?

Comment: DCGG> That's exactly how I feel about this situation. I don't care. I don't see the point in this. Why not support Ebony Fashion Fair that has TONS of black models wearing designer clothes from blacks as well as whites?? Once again, we'll complain but we'll be buying the next Cosmo mag to find out what the latest fashion trend. Ugh!

Comment: DMaxx Tyson Beckford was interviewed and he was actually complaining about the lack of black models but that didn't change how he operates. I am not one to buy designer anything because I believe in getting bang for my buck. I've never seen a pair of $300 shoes that wore better than the ones I pay 60-80 dollars for and since designers don't create clothes for everyone they ain't on my radar. The quality is no better than if you purchased good quality merchandise from the department stores. Having a designer label is not a guarantee of anything but spending too much money on one item.

Comment: McNasty,
$60-$80 is a bit high for me more like $30-$40 on sale.
I have one of two designer coats one is a Bill Blass that my Mom brought for me for Christmas about 20 years ago and it still looks new,the other is a somebody Klein they both keep me warm in the winter, once I drop a few pounds I'll wear the 20 year old coat it again. If it last I'll continue to wear it.

Comment: if I have designer anything, it musta come from TJMAXX, you should go, but anyhoo, I'm all for saving my pennies and not purchasing the clothing, the thing is, these clothing lines run into different markets and stores under different brands. we gotta get the names of all that stuff, it's not just the high end names but you got design houses putting clothing in target, etc. Support PZI jeans - black owned jean company based in ATL, GA - check 'em out http://www.pzijeans.com/
