Comment: This is just another chapter in the strange life of the King family.

Comment: This is bad! i know MLK and Corretta are rolling in their graves. Dexter, you better watch out, Coretta is gonna haunt you and slap you upside the head in the middle of the night.

Name: NYCsoul
Comment: If I'm not mistaken, didn't Coretta recommend that Dexter be appointed the head of the King Center? Basically, what it boils down to is that Mama King allowed Dexter to have what he wants and now Bernice and MLK3 want him to be accountable. The King Center had problems for years even when Coretta was alive and the allegations about Dexter misappropriating the money surfaced during his reign. Now it appears that the 32M that the family got for those papers have also been 'misappropriated'. Sorry to say but Coretta created the monster called Dexter King.

Comment: DK is all the way out in Malibu.... something tells me he must like the snow

Name: NYCsoul
Comment: BlkATLTop> DK wants to be an actor so I guess he felt that he'd get work by being close to Hollyweird's rich and infamous.

Comment: It happens in every family where there is alot of money...its a shame but that's life....

Name: Closet_Nerd_Girl
Comment: *sigh* Cosign Bigchassie- Daddy and Mama king must be tired from all the flip-flopping going on in their caskets. To NYCsoul's point, alot of this started with Coretta. She had to die before any of them were able to get married. She wasn't dead a good 2 years before Marty III got married and became a father. Those grown children were not able to have lives of their own. As for Dexter, with his fine self (I met him at the Mayor's Ball years ago and I had to stop myself from swooning...), he's a little shady and it doesn't surprise me that he's accused of mishandling money. How is he able to afford a home in Malibu? Does he have a real job?

Name: Mas90
Comment: Dexter live sin Malibu... why does he have so much money??? Malibu is the most expensive city in the Los Angeles area. Did the government give payments back for slavery and didn't tell us?

Name: vroger2
Comment: LOL with ClosetNerdGirl! You covered ALL of that family's issues! I also found it peculiar that not one of the four children (who were all over 40 years old) married while Mrs. King was alive. She probably 'ran off' anyone they tried to bring home! Now that she's gone, the King Family's 'E-True Hollywood story' is about to blow up! (For the record, have ANY of them ever had a job? And Yolanda's 'acting' doesn't count! No wonder they're scrapping over the money.)

Name: BlkATLTop
Comment: Dexter is like Tommy from the Martin Lawrence show- "He ain't got no job!"

Name: khufu
Comment: Well, Dextr has always been the playboy in the family...they know how he is. Question is: why did Mama King appont him knowing how he is? This is easily reconciled: 33.33333% of all Daddy King's estate especially Intellectually property to each child

Comment: BOOT> LMAO,LMAO,LMAO!! This is soooo unfortunate. Why can't they just work with one another to preserve the legacy. I know Martin and Coretta are rolling in their graves, wondering how in the heyell their family has gotten involved in something like suing one another. Ridiculous.

Name: Teigh
Comment: Really unfortunate but not so surprising. There has been a rif with the children for years. What was shocking was the fact that those papers had been sitting in boxes for years and they were willing to tag and sell em to whoever wanted them...yet when Julian Bond wanted use of some of the papers for a book they wanted to charge him something like 1 million dollars (and he was there with King when it all went down). Greed has become KING for the remants of the King family. Which really is a shame. I still find it hard to believe that Coretta wound up in some Mexican quack facility which is where she died. What I admired most about Betty Shabazz was that it was real jacked up after her husband was murdered. She got herself a job, went back to school and handled her business....these King kids...triffling, and as Harry Belafonte said "we need to sit back and ask ouselves how did we let this happen" -- (spoken after he was dis-invited from their mother's funeral)

Name: khufu
Comment: TEIGH nothing wrong with wealth associated with Intellectual property...problem is Niggahs

Name: gingerg
Comment: Dexter is shocked that his siblings finally found the courage to stand up to him. Since he can't act right, take him to court. This probably should have been done a long time ago. Dexter appears to be a man who was the favored child. He's apparently let that go to his head. And what the hell is he doing trying to run a corporation when the MLK Center fell into disarray under his "leadership?" Also, you know he isn't living in tony Malibu on his own money from "acting."

Name: gingerg
Comment: PRDC, it can also happen in families where there is a modest amount of money. My maternal grandmother has always favored her light skinned youngest son over all of her children. She can't read or write and he's been robbing her blind since his teens. He's now in his fifties. He convinced her that she couldn't own a home and receive social security benefits, so she put her house in his name. He sold it and blew most of the profits. She now lives in a roach infested apartment and spends 70% of her income on rent.

Name: gingerg
Comment: Now, the lawyers are going to get many of those millions. If they had to WORK for their money, perhaps they would act right.

Name: butterpecanrican
Comment: this is so sad

Name: Mas90
Comment: I went through this same sh*t with my oldest sibling. All of us other siblings (6 total) were %*$!ed. But the oldest one is going to get what's coming to them. What goes around, comes around twice as hard.

Name: Teigh
Comment: khufu...If you sell the intellectual property then you sold it. You can't expect to control what you sold and thats the problem with the King kids. Their Greed is coming back to bite them and their father never operated like that.

Name: Teigh
Comment: they had boxes of materials that could have bee used to create books, organizational data, etc. that could have been sold for use in schools, etc. No they sat in a dusty basement for years...King is/was about so much more than his I have a Dream speech, problem is their lack of respect for their father's work has really made his teachings somewhat irrelevant to the younger generations. Beyond the I have a Dream speech what do young people really know about Dr. King?

Name: khufu
Comment: TEIGH did they sell it meaning they transferred the copyright? or did they license? did they know the difference?

Name: Teigh
Comment: Come on Khufu...they knew what they were doing, they wanted money and control. It was a sale! Sotheby's does not transfer or license -- they sell!

Name: Southernbelle
Comment: It's a damn shame it had to come to this. Black folks are becoming more Europeanized with each passing day.

Name: khufu
Comment: becoming more europeanized?

Name: Closet_Nerd_Girl
Comment: Yep, Europeanized. It's like "the oppressed taking on the characteristics of the oppressor." There once was a time when "we" wouldn't dare think of doing certain things (but "they" always did). Now, we are getting just as bad as "them." Case in point, the D.C. snipers. There was a time when no one would even CONSIDER that a black man would go around using random folks as target practice.

Name: Closet_Nerd_Girl
Comment: >vroger2, LOL @ "The King Family - The E True Hollywood Story." Now THAT would be a hot mess for real...

Name: khufu
Comment: becming...ahhhhhh...Black folks in AMerica have ben europeanized since how long ago? why are people still having revelations about things that atre centuries years old? that's part of the problem......thhese continuous re-revelations about sheet that Kunta Kinte figured out long ago

Comment: Did I mention that my uncle sold his mother's house AFTER she spent years paying it off?

Name: gingerg
Comment: Today, he's bankrupt (again), the IRS has liens on everything he "owns" and he's a walking skeleton, in part due to having relations with numerous women.

Name: gingerg
Comment: Closet, they may not be called snipers in the traditional sense, but plenty of folks are using their own for target practice - only they are not missing. See any major city in this country. Interestingly, they can control their behavior because they don't try that shyt in other communities.

Name: gingerg
Comment: You can't tell some of these folks nothing about their favored sons. My paternal grandmother is in the same boat. Her son convinced her to "sell" her house and move in with him. She reached a verbal agreement with a neighbor and turned over the keys to her house. Problem? The neighbor can't get any money from the bank to buy a bike, much less a house.

Name: Kyenn
Comment: This is sad. I hope they can work it out and move on as a family. I just finished the biography oh Betty Shabazz (Malclm X's wife). We have NO CLUE what these families have to go through living in the shadows of our fallen heros. They spend soo much time and energy trying to "uphold the King name" or "carrying on the legacy" that they do not get to find out who THEY really are. That book was definately a eye opener. Let's cut them some slack. They did not ask to be born in the legacy of Dr. King and I'm sure they are doing the best they can. Why don't we just sit back and let the be.....regular people and stop expecting them to live up to our expectations of what we THINK his children should be.
