Once modern man got hold to it was, well let's say changed to fit the needs of the times. "Translations" of the Bible have been used to start wars, keep people oppressed, fight against abortions (didn't know they were performing abortions during that time )and now more recent as a form of homophobia. It's unfortunate for him that someone he loves is using it against him but his grip is with that person. I told my brother who I was and he told me he didn't want me to get AIDS as if it only goes after gay people and safe just didn't exist among gay folks. I tell you ignorance exist big time among str8 folks. They believe any sh*t they hear about gays. They support the stereotypes about gays just as much as gays. LOL! I will admit the gay world use to be quite underground. I know when I came out I was blown away about how much of it existed. A very dedicated and talented brotha named Joseph died of AIDS. During that time in SF people were dying left and right. There were vigils almost weekly. This time it became personal. We saw his body at San Francisco General Hospital when they pulled it from this long storage drawer. Before he died Joseph suffered some extreme indignities from both family and friends. They made him eat from disposable dishes. He slept on the floor with separate blankets. As he got sicker his family threw him on the street. At our meeting, members asked "was Joseph gay?" I stated that it didn't make any difference. Joeseph was a good brotha and he is just as dead gay or straight. At 23 I still had my share of homophobic baggage. Many "progressive" black organizations were profoundly homophobic then. Fast foward to 1998 when I served on the HIV Prevention Planning Council of Alameda County in Oakland CA. There I met some of the most talented, brilliant and incredible people you would ever want to meet in life. The fact is many of these people have since passed on while in the prime of their lives. I am now the Director of several HIV prevention programs. I am one of the few straight brothas who do this work. It has taught me a great deal about myself and I am very comfortable with my masculinity. After seeing what I have seen and being touched by so many lives, it would be impossible to turn my back on the LGBT community. I am honored to serve!!!

Comment: First of all, as a christian I don't dislike anyone, I may dislike your ways but that does not mean that I don't love you and I think that is where some of the sterotypical thinking comes from. second of all, I have a sister that is a lesbian and love her to death, but do I disagree with her lifestyle? Yes, but it is her life and who am I to judge. There is no where in the Bible where you will find that God did not love his people, but he did hate their sin. The Bible is God inspired (2 Tim 3:16) and is there to correct, direct and give encouragement. We all must understand that we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, so other than Jesus Christ none of us are perfect (Rom. 3:23-24). All I will say is in the end of it all the Bible says that we all will confess to God (Rom. 14:11). So I said all of that to say this, be what you want to be cause the judgment is not ours (man) to do, that belongs to God.

John 1:12 says, But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name. 1 John 3:10 says, in this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God. This dude really needs to let it go. People don't have to like you, accept you or any of that. It would be cool if they did, but they don't have to. If you accept yourself, that's great. Hopefully, when you stand before God and give an account, He will accept you as well. Really, that's all that matters. Instead of seeking to file a case, he needs to seek therapy.

Comment: First of all, I didn't author the Bible, thus I will not defend it. If one reads the Bible, they would understand that it is the inspired Word of God. Either you believe it or you don't. That's a person's individual choice. God gives man/woman free will. Secondly, if one is gay and they are secure in that lifestyle, so be it. You cannot, I repeat, CANNOT make people accept it. If you are happy, then don't worry about what someone else thinks. If reading the Bible was so distressful to this brother, then he should've put it down. You can't make people like you. Now if it gets to the point where someone is harassing you, that's another story. No one has the right to abuse, harass, or put their hands on anyone regardless of their race, sexual orientation, color, etc. Even though I have gay friends and associates, I disagree with the lifestyle, however, I accept the person and do not judge them.

REAL CHRISTians do not turn away others because of their lifestyles but show love toward them. REAL CHRISTians know that ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Rom 3:23. Homosexuality is a sin. Research it and you will see it. Scripture was inspired by God. You are correct, God did not write the bible, but He inspired it. If the bible had nothing to do with God and only represented the desires of men. Men would have done away with a lot of stuff in the bible. Why would man create a bible to tell you to love someone who hurts you. Why would man create a bible that sends them to hell, and in any way shape or form restricts there own lifestyle. Man has been selfish for centuries, which would mean the bible would consist of a whole bunch of selfish principles. It does not. If you are a woman and you love a woman in a sexual way, Knock yourself out. If you are a man and you love a man in a sexual way, Knowck yourself out. The problem I have is when people try to make wrong right. I know it hurts and is confusing to genuinely feel like you love someone of the opposite sex, and read the bible and see that it is considered a sin. Just like it hurts me to have to continue to love someone who has done me wrong, to pray for someone who wants to dispitefully use me. Doing those things go against everything that feels natural. It feels natural to want to hate someone who has done wrong to you. It feels natural to not want to pray for someone who has run over you and taken you for granted, but the bible says that's what you should do. The bible tells us to love our enemies, who wants to do that??? That goes against what I feel to be natural, but that is what the bible commands. For those of you that it feels natural to be with someone who is of the same sex as you, I understand why you would that to be a legit thing to do biblically, unfortunately, it is not. We each must choose our own path. I honestly pray that when you stand before God, He will be pleased with what you chose to do with your life... Just as I pray that He will be pleased with what I chose to do with my life.

Comment: Scripture is to be discussed and debated. That is called the search for truth. Reading the Bible word-for-word is not understanding the bible. It's one thing to know that the sky is blue. It is a deeper thing to know WHY the sky is blue. So, in that, you must read the Bible within the context with which it was written. If God is the Creator then we are all His children. It's in there. Now, whether we obey our Father...that is a different story. Homosexuality is not a sin as I mentioned before, because the comptemporary concept of homosexuality is not what is meant in the Bible, which is evident in Leviticus and Romans and throughout the rest of the books.

In fact, the only reason why I continue to respond to you and others is because those who may not have picked up the bible for themselves may believe the non truth that you are displaying in this comment board. 2 Timothy 2:15-16 says, "be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. The amplified bible puts it this way...Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved (tested by trial), a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing [rightly handling and skillfully teaching] the Word of Truth.
But avoid all empty (vain, useless, idle) talk, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness.
The bible says that God gave people the right to be sons of God when they believe on His name. It also talks about being adopted by God as sons. Now, why oh why, would the bible say that if all were children of God. Also, the bible refers to Jesus as the firstborn son of God. HMMMMM, according to your theory that wouldn't make sense, considering the fact that there were several people created before Jesus came into the earth. Romans 1:27 "Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due." Think the bible is very clear on men on men relations. How you could argue with that is beyond me, but knock yourself out. All I can say is that you will stand before God and give an account not only for the life you choose to live, but also for the things that you teach others. That being said, unless you can justify your stance that men being with men and women being with women is okay with scriptural references, I would think twice about spreading your version of truth.

If we rely solely on when Jesus was born then that means we must exclude Adam, Eve, Moses, Abraham, Noah, Deborah, etc. Have you ever heard of the Old Testament? Furthermore, the Bible also says that “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1) Clearly, John is referring to Jesus, evidenced in John 4-8 with the recurring reference to the “light…coming into the world.” This places Jesus before Adam, before the Earth; so that we can even rely on your narrow interpretation. However, John 3:16 says that “God so loved the WORLD.” Not Jews or Gentiles nor gay or straight. This, however, does not negate the necessity of Christ-like behavior, but if we are all God’s creation and we come from God we are His children. (cont)

Which is why he asked them the question, which one of you would not loose his ox if he was bound on the sabbath. (paraphrasing). I said there were people created before Jesus came to the earth, I am well aware that He was with God from the start. That's why God said let US make man in our image and in our likeness. What you are failing to realize is that it is a requirement for you to believe in Jesus to become a son of God. Jesus had not yet been manifested in the earth, had not died for everyone sins. Moses and everyone who came before Jesus died and went to hell. Jesus went there a preached to them, and they became sons of God, when they believed on His name.

Comment: Funniest thing you wrote though was that Romans 1:26 was referring to those who were naturally heterosexual who engaged in homosexual activites.... If you are a man, and you love another man beyond the phileo or agape kind of love, and cross into the eros, you are a homosexual if you are a man who is attracted to another man or lusts after another man, your are a homosexual, and if you are a man who sleeps with men, you are a homosexual. Are you a non-believer? The definition of homosexual 1. is of, relating to, or characterized by a tendency to direct sexual desire toward another of the same sex 2. of, relating to, or involving sexual intercourse between persons of the same sex.

Comment: Guess next you are going to argue/debate the dictionary. Why not, you debate the bible. Here's what I am going to do. I am going to do what I know I am supposed to do and stop debating the bible. Jesus told his disciples to go out into the world and preach the gospel, if they entered a city and the people did not receive them to dust off their feet as a testimony against them and keep it moving. If you refuse to accept scripture, and choose to use semantics to try and get around scripture, I have nothing left to say to you. You "don't fear the judgement of God," I hope that works out will for you. I do because the bible says we are going to have to give an account for every idle word spoken. I love God with all my heart, all my mind, and all my soul. I love my neighbor as myself. But the bible also says that he that loves God, hates sin!!! That includes sin within myself and sin within others. Good Luck!!!

In the OT, same-gender sex is rendered under the term sodomy, which in looking in the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, we find that the context is rape, not the contemporary idea of a loving gay relationship. In the NT, we find that the context is also idolatry and also lust, which is the converse of the contemporary idea of a loving gay relationship. 3. I believe I explained this thoroughly as well. Comment: Not only were the Pharisees hypocritical and self-righteous, in this passage, they very simply erred in their literal understanding of the Law. Jesus gave a hypothetical, "Suppose one of you..," not a literal parallel like when he called the Pharisees whitewashed tombs. So rather than justifying his point by criticizing the priests' own self-indulgence he used a general, common-sense example. Additionally, he addresses their ignorance in Matthew 12:5 ("Or have you not read in the law...") and not their self-indulgence. It's a bit insincere to tell me to focus on "all points of reference" when you only focus on one to make your point. "Moses and everyone who came before Jesus died and went to hell?" Elijah ascended into heaven in the OT (2 Kings 2:11). There is great theological disagreement over the nature of hell. Is hell 2 parts? Does "Paradise" actually mean heaven? So its a bit hard for you to be dogmatic in your opinion. I'm definitely not.

Comment: Eros is not simply erotic in a sexual sense (as seen in the writings of ancient Greek philosophers like Plato) and there is no moral dichotomy between agape and eros. Agape (selfless) love can inform eros (erotic)! With regard to the dictionary, Webster was written when...? Thus, my differentiation between the etymology in Biblical times and the contemporary beliefs we hold today. My only prayer is that people use wisdom when they quote Biblical texts so that it does not condemn people based on their innateness, but rather on their love for God and their love for their fellow man. If you are going to preach the gospel, you first have to understand the gospel. Understanding comes from discussion and debate. Do justice not self-righteous judgment. Peace.
