Comment: I am with the brotha on this. I was one of the statistics. I grew up without a father. he cheated and went off to live with a woman who had a little boy after leaving the hospital the day I was born because I was not a little boy. I heard him say things to my mom that has definitely colored my feelings about men and it is not at all positive. So I am glad that he is putting fools on blast. Not because of my own circumstance but because of the fact that if children need their father's to be around to show them how to be a man and how a man is supposed to treat a woman. I never got that. I had to pick it up from other people's father's. Besides he isn't saying anything that the white man aint been saying all along. but some blacks can't take hearing it...not even from a black man. they wanna sweep it under the rug with the "we know our faults so he ain't gotta talk about it" speech. When ya knew better...you did better but some of us are content to continue the trend. It is time to talk about it and I am one person who is glad about it. JMO

Comment: On another note, I am glad that he is urging black people to take more responsibility. There is nothing worse than momma and daddy dropping their kid off at school with no work and no lunch money and expecting me to part the red sea. LOL I am human and can only do so much. I had a child who came to school and Lord have mercy, the baby didn't have anything. no school supplies...nothing. But momma picked him up everyday in a new baby phat outfit and had a different color weave in her head every single day. But you can't afford a 10 cent package of paper? smh Come on! If I could come from where I did and get to where I am now, a whole bunch of people can do it too. we just gotta get to work.

Comment: Until a reasonable definition is given for a person, place or thing, people, places and things will settle for whatever substitute presents itself. In our community, there have been far too many wrong definitions of what a man is because most of the males in our particular community have not seen, been taught to be or accepted as men. Making babies does not make you a man. Being incarcerated does not make you a man. Having lots of girlfriends or being a "pimp" does not make you a man. A man is a male that is honest. He is reliable as well as self-reliant and he assumes responsibility, not only for his own actions, but for the actions of those persons or things he is responsible for. We, as men, must teach that definition to the men we are building- our "Men Under Construction."

Comment: Excellent comments Javonne77 and Counselor2, simpley excellent. I'm still miffed at how anyone can have a problem with this message. I think that says a lot more about THEM (Jesse this means you) than it does BO. Apparently Jesse et al equate Black with "trifling," else what could "talking down to Black people" mean? The "get your ish together" message is pointed directly at those doing trifling things, so the only way you can be offended is if it applies to you! lol It's a shame that with all the other mess going on, it's THIS message that some people have a problem with. I mean, really. There are some real substantive things to go after Obama on, this message he gave last night and at other times, is NOT one of those things.

Comment: I agree wholeheartedly with Obama's comments. For so long we have blamed our shortcomings on whites, the government, other blacks, and anyone else who we felt should take the blame. Black fathers do need to do better, our community as a whole needs to take responsibility for what we instill in our children as success. We've come a long way but we've got a long way to go. Black people, let's do better.

Comment: Nothing Obama has said in the past really bothered me. Is the message true? Yes it is. But the problem for me now is that even I am starting to see a pattern here. No one is disputing what he is saying, but I have to ask this question. Does Barack think African Americans are irresponsible? It seems that his speeches always have some comment in them about how we need to be more responsible. I know there are many of my fellow supporters that are so caught up in defending him and his message that they lose sight of what I considered to be a bigger issue. The issue for me is now the fact that almost everywhere he goes he goes on and on about how "we" need to be more responsible. Is that what he thinks of us?

Comment: yunvme> That's what my feeling is, too. It is not the message per se but what is this about 'responsiblity' only pertaining to us? American society in general has declined in terms of morals and ethics. America has taught the ideas that if people don't agree with your way of life or philosophy, invade their country. We make 'stars' out of people infamous for doing the wrongs things or simply because they've done something 'outrageous'. There is alot of work that needs to be done in our communities but let's give praise to those who are doing the right thing.

Comment: The pattern started when we as black men and women began to let what is in our control get out of hand. As has been said many times before! If the shoe fits wear it, if you have done ALL that you can, take what fits you and throw the rest to the side for those that need it. Many tend to get defensive when things tend to hit home, directly or indirectly. Look at your situation and those around you that you may be enabling(sp) or not helping to rise to the occasion, think about whats being said, take what you need and call me in the morning!!!

Comment: Great post Sdedee84. I would also encourage all to read the full speech, link provided by EUR on BO's website. The "responsibility for self" part was like one or two paragraphs, lol, maybe a fourth of the whole speech! So the EUR headline is misleading (probably intentionally so to facilitate more controversy and discussion), but it does not paint an accurate picture of the speech in sum.

Comment: I agree with yunvme and the others. Here is the problem that I see. Is it not the responsibility of every father whether they are black, white, asian, latino, etc. to be there for his children. Is it not the responsiblity of every parent to sit down with their children and go over homework with them. I wholeheartedly agree that some black men need to stop being absentee fathers, but there are white men who need to stop being them too, their are latino men that not stop being them too. Would Obama be as relentless when it comes to taking them to task on what they do and don't do?

MUSB, you know i've been looking at BO with a side-eye all along, but he's really starting to beat a dead horse. now there are a couple of reasons for his speech and talking about black responsibility. mainly, i think b/c he was addressing a majority black audience, he felt comfortable saying that. but i don't think he would've dared to say that to a majority yt or hispanic audience about their members. there are just as many deadbeat yt and hispanic fathers as there are black ones. i think JJ was right to say what he did, but said it at the wrong place. he is talking down to black people.... and y does he feel comfortable enough to air our dirty laundry, but not address the outbreak of yt kids in Mass who voluntarily got pregnant.

Comment: Nobody is getting defensive here or 'enabling' anybody's behavior. How many times has this subject about black irresponsbility come up on this board? Time and time again so what Obama is saying is not new. Farrakahn said the same thing 13, 14 years ago during the million man march. A march, that some black women criticized him for having despite the fact he was addressing the same issues that Obama is doing now! There is nothing brand new about this. The point is how do we move beyond it and support those who are ALREADY doing what they are supposed to do. Let's give them tools and not cut budgets for grassroots organizations that are trying to change the tide in our communities. Being optimistic is not the equivalent of denying or enabling bad behavior. Our communities can change if we all work together.

Comment: LOL@Crenee. IMO, Obama is a middle-class..well upper now..black men and he believes in a message that not just middle class blacks believe in...but ALL blacks. The problem I have w/his message is illustrated by his comment about "people say i've been too tough"
bullshyt line that black folk always like to throw out there..including Cosby. Obama is smart enough to know that prolly over 80% of blacks support a message of personal responsibility. If he does not believe that...then he don't know black folk like he should. Who are these people he is referring to? Jessie never talked about it? Al? That's as big a lie as the lie he continued to tell about the numbers of black men in jail vs. college. Black folk...especially middle class blacks have a habit of isolating every problem to the hood and perpetuating stereotypes germane to that area. Hence, his speech about "don't feed your kids popeyes chicken for b'fast." I ask, who does that? Who does he know that does that? Does he know somebody who knows somebody..who knows somebody who does that? Prolly not. I need some watermelon cuz he bout to rise my pressha up in here today.

historically, these are the types of speeches that have always taken place at the naacp meetings. this is nothing new. one of the reasons for the naacp meetings is to discuss uncomfotable topics. thats what we do. so for u to say "airing dirty laundry" is quite frankly, you been ignorant of the naacp mission.
that same "airing our dirty laundry" does not bode well when u are talking about the black church. thats what we do. historically thats were these discussions took place. some of dr. kings best speeches to place in the church. did he "air dirty laundry"? Comment: NYC...Farrakhan...Jessie and Al said the same thing at the MMMarch just two years ago. Personal responsibility...fathers needing to be involved. There's another problem..as noted in this AP clip. The reporter said, "Obama first sent that message on Father's Day to the black community." The majority of the clip does focus on the smallest part of his speech. BUT, that's the headliner and what the media will focus in on. Fact is, Obama first sent that message in his book and has been repeated throughout his political career. The resposibility in how "we" present ourselves does not stop at the the line leaving the hood. It also goes all the way to the burbs. He should be mindful (now that he is Barack the phenom) of how he presents our concerns and the stereotypes about us.

Comment: MsBlake: "On a serious note I know firsthand the kinda folks Obama is trying to get through to." Me too. That's why, when I find myself about to get offended at BO's/Cosby's/et al comments, I stop and think. My OWN brother! lol He grew up middle/upper class, both parents, the whole nine, and STILL went by the wayside, became a rolling stone, not an absent father (though having multiple kids by multiple women *smh*), but triflin as all get-out. Now do I think he's a lost cause? (Sometimes lol), no seriously, hopefully not. But I know for a FACT that hearing that it's not everyone else's fault, that he needs to take PERSONAL responsibilty for if not all, most of his life, is right on-time. And I think BO's father leaving him gives him more license to speak on such things than others. Would I like to hear him applaud and show more diligence to those who, like him, lead responsible lives? Of course, and I hope he decides to increase that part of the message more in the future. But for right now, I think his message is appropriate, would love for him to give it in front of prisoners and juvenile delinquents even more, but I still don't have a problem with him giving it. I feel for him, as Huey stated, trying to be all things to all people. Politics is HARD! lol Good luck trying to appease both scared White folks and offended Black folks Barack! I do NOT envy you.

Comment: musbudherbs: I'm sorry but you would be AMAZED at what parents do to their kids....black ones included! It only takes a few hot seconds of talking to a teacher, or a prinicipal, or hell the woman in the cafeteria to know that parents DO neglect their children. Do you know what I buy with my pwn personal money at the beginnign of the year? a file cabinet drawer full of snacks! y? Because in the 6 yrs I have taught I cannot tell you how many times I have fed a child who hadn't eaten since lunch on sunday. I cannot tell you how many times I have sent a child to school with stomach aches at 8 am because they were feed something inappropriate or spoiled. It only takes a minute of research to discover these things. He doesn't have to know anyone who does these things personally. The fact is that they are out there and he knows it. So I will have to respectfully disagree with that part of your comment.

If the light is on us we can't hide. I double-dog dare you to find out how many people on this board had some kind of father issues. It might have turned out alright because there ended up being a man who stepped in and helped out. But what about those who don't have that? Don't worry...I'll wait...But don't try to act like it is not an issue that needs to be disscussed...in the open. Is Obama getting some points with conservative voters (both Black and white) for this? Probably, but I don't think it is at the expense of Blacks as some have suggested. It is not an either or situation. I wanna see a President who has the ba11s to call you out and then help provide the tools for you do something about it. I think it will still be up to us to demand then provide the tools. Government can help, but we have to do the rest ourselves. I think that is all he is saying.

Comment: In my humble and perhaps long-winded opinion [sorry ] If I could chime in here. I don't believe he's stating that blacks are irresponsible. However, the positive influences in our community don't get the press. The good fathers who are boring, homebodies, going to work then coming home being there for their family -- I mean, where's the scandal in that? Bottom line is we cannot be affected by everything people say to and about us. But if the shoe fits, we have to wear it. Our community needs work. It's about you being the change you want in the world at this stage in this world. We make choices. This is not the civil rights era, it's the 21st Century, and there’s a different message, mindset and world out there. We’ve gotten the wealth, the affluence, the education. Now what?! It's about self-preservation and taking responsibility for our actions. We always want to say it's somebody's fault, but truth is, we make the choice to have unprotected sex with multiple partners, fashion plates, and engage in otherwise social and sexual deviance and there are consequences. With power comes responsibility; and power without responsibility is anarchy and chaos. Now that our ancestors have fought and won civil rights, what are we using those rights to do? Have a clothing line? Wear ten tons of jewelry around our necks? Go the strip club? What’s wrong with being responsible anyway? Irresponsibility has a huge negative impact on our families and the community as a collective. Sure, we’ve been the victims of inequality and iniquity, but so has everyone else at one point or another, and we've got to move past our past. Not forget, just move past it. The difference is the chips are not stacked up against other races and folk of other heritages ike the way they are stacked up against the African. But the only way to do that is to change the mids of people by behaving differently. We’ve got to have some pride, responsibility and self-esteem enough to love ourselves enough such that we don’t bring harm to ourselves. SELF-ESTEEM. Like Kat Williams says: it's called self-esteem. And that's esteem of your EM EFEN self.

dont shoot the messanger. barack is qualified to broach the subject if anyone is. he is the product of this disconnect. the idea that some people feel that he is "calling us out" for the sake of votes is ludacris. we need to be called out. and im a black brother speaking who has mentored young black brothers so i see the problem and know the history.

The part of the speech about persoanal responsibility was a mere blip compared to the rest of what he talked about. And he didn't even mention fathers specifically. He talked about parents in general. That's the problem with how this article is spun. It's sensationalism just to get people to comment on it. He focused mostly on getting this forclosure situation right, the amount of money we spent on the war which could have gone to strengthening the public school system and paying teachers better, and how much big business is getting over on the middle-class. He also talked about getting our kids off the street and curtailing the violence, and getting jobs for ex-offenders so they don't go back to a life of crime. He even talked about how little girls need to stop looking at t.v. to define their self-image, and that little boys need to be taught how to treat girls. That was something even my 7 year-old boy and 5 year-old girl could comprehend.

It's about time we hear this message from one of our own that can be a positive influence and can encourage others to make a difference. The problem with people like Jessie and Al is that they are always quick to yell black verses white but they never send messages to the black communities where it should actually start. Also, for those of you who think it's a pattern, in the near future, take a look at some statistics and you will see what Obama is talking about. It is better to hear this message from one of our own than hear it from McCain right? It goes back to what I always say on this message board, "Many of us hate to hear the truth."

As far as I see, we are going round and round in a circle and I get tired of these kinds of discussions. As for Obama's comments on other issues, he has his work cut out for him because besides some folks wanting him to part the red sea, they want him to fix all of Bush's mess in a 4 year span. With the high unemployment rate in our community, 50% of black men in NYC, it will be interesting to see if corporations will be investing in creating more jobs. GM is laying off about 12000 workers with other corporations laying off everyday. Corporations are more interested in generating profits for their CEOs than keeping people employed. It will interesting to me to see how Obama will handle this issue once he becomes President.

Comment: Its a safe bet that most if not all the people on this board have some idea of the issues facing black people. Since BO talks about responsibility, is it not our collective responsibility for the raising of our children? It is one thing to say black men should be more responsibil but the question is: how do we help that black man be more responsibil? How do we help young women make better choices in men? Families don't exist in a vacuum. They need the support of the ENTIRE COMMUNITY!! BO is correct, the govt has failed us. Is anyone surprised? How do we as a community help that child who does not have appropriate role models. Since we are talking about responsibility, let us call out the racist white muthafckers who are activiely trying to destroy black people via discrimination, racial profiling, redlining, sub prime loans, enviornmental racism, inadquate access to healthcare, inferior public education systems, the prison industrial complex, racist enforcement of drug laws, etc. If you are going to tell the story tell the whole story!!!

Comment: naturalsista> That's always the case. The stories here are posted half %*$ed is one problem. The other is folks who are debating can't refrain themselves from name calling or personal attacks because someone sees something in a different light or actually saying the same thing but with a different slant. Everybody sees things differently but some of us can't accept that.

You need to be debating John McCain, not showing white folk how you can chastise us. You need to be up in John's face more, who frankly had a pretty good retort to your scheduled speech today on a strategy for Iraq (which was, shouldn't there be a conversation with the generals/a trip to Iraq before getting too deep into specific strategies?). Your speech to La Raza was pretty sympathetic, at least from the excerpts I heard. Is it because you got us locked in at 90%? Is that why you feel comfortable with two speeches just weeks apart admonishing Black folk? Saw an online election poll yesterday, broken out by states. John McCain had won every state. Let's get on track, brother. Otherwise November will be an embarrassment.

If someone (a white person) gave a speech about how black people need to be more responsible and somewhere in his speech he said, "some n1ggers is just lazy and there is nothing anyone can do about it." Will you scratch the part you dont like because the rest of the speech was on point? Silly of you all to think that we dont have brains and only read headlines. BTW how many black women are still offended by rappers calling women b1tches, h0es and tricks? Its ok if they keep repeating those things because those tricks need to be put on blast, and they are not really talking about you anyway right?

Comment: Ya'll drinking the koolaid. I would suggest that more of you READ or listen to Barack's speech for yourself. The speech was not the "Says Blacks must take responsibility" as EUR and virtually all of so-called mainstream media describe. They want us to believe that his speech was all about that. But it's clear as the text and the tape that three paragraphs out of maybe thirty even discussed responsibility. The vast majority of the speech was honoring our past of heroism and struggle. It's irresponsible for them to do these things... but YT folk gotta be YT folk. And organizations like EUR wants to sell copy over stupid stuff taken out of context.

What also tends to happen is that we think that he is talking only to folk in the hood. No, he is talking to everyone. And yes Society in general has the very same problems we do but guess what? Black folk are disproportionately impacted by the negative happenings, we are also the only community that no longer looks out for each other. There was a time when Black folk did that, not any more. We already know what the government needs to be doing, which is why we supported this brother to get in there and shake things up, ending the status quo. But we also need to do our part and apparently we aren't hearing it enough. I like the quote Counselor had about our "men under construction." If more of the positive brothers would step up and encourage, promote, praise, influence and enlighten the rest, our community will start to improve. This cannot be emphasized enough. Stop blaming the white man, stop blaming the government, the police and your sisters, Black women. We all have our part in this degrading culture but Black Men, Brothers need to finally step up once and for all and make positivity happen. Look within, if brothers really start doing that across the board, I guarantee you %10000 that the Black community overall would improve. Did you see many people in here (other than maybe 2 or 3) suggesting that we listen to JJ's comments in full other than the snippets we heard? No you didn't! Yunv's point is not naive. If Bush had given a 20-minute about america and focused 2 on parents should be feeding their kids popeyes chicken for b'fast, Jerome shouldn't be hanging out on the street corner, TGen shouldn't be going to a job interview w/pink hair, huey should know to pull up his pants if he wants to be taken seriously...DO YOU HONESTLY believe that people will be asking that we should refer to the previous 18 minutes of the speech? Nobody would be asking about the entire speech becuz we wouldn't care. Fk OUTTA HERE! The fact is that "if" he had said nething similar to that...we (as in most of us) would be fit to be tied and anything contrary would be a complete LIE. This whole faux controversy is at the crux of the problem why I believe Obama should tailor save his tough love conversations. Based on the clip, what did he talk about...black men. Who is not at home..black men? Who is hanging on the corner..black men? Who needs to learn personal responsibility..black men. MAS90..I liken his dicussion about "responsibility" and the response to it...to him (if he were a gay activist) making a speech about the "irresponsibility" of homo men who sleep around unprotected...many times involving women..spreading diseases...destroying families etc. Sure, that may not apply to you. Yes the message is true. I simply doubt that most gays would be walking around giving him high 5's.

MER82,
Barack also said something similar to this in his speech, that these things are not just happening to us. The thing is this was an NAACP crowd for the most part, even though there were politicians and others sprinkled in. Plus, it was Youth night last night, so the ones who needed the message, our children, heard the message. I ran into one friend of mine afterwards who had his children down there to witness history, and now each of his children have to write him a report based on what they saw and heard.

Comment: Ultimately what I think Rak was trying to say, is that we can't wait for 40 acres and a mule, we cannot wait for reparations, and despite our upbringing (which could or could not have been pleasant), we need to make a choice. And sometimes that includes falling on your own sword - which ultimately he means accepting responsibility for your actions, atoning for them (which is all people want is honesty), and then go from there.
I don't think that he is clowning black fathers more than he is describing the desperate need that we have. We need them no less (contrary to some people's opinions) that we need mothers. We have never been designed (neither men or women) to go it alone, and there is where the frustration comes from.
I believe that he is calling us to be self reliant, and self contained, and not waiting for any handouts, because frankly, we're not going to get any. I believe he wants us to position ourselves and prepare ourselves to be HIRE-ABLE without any baggage (though I'm far from DUMB - Some people will still not like the fact that my skin is brown), but being an HR professional, I can tell you that most of the time, people are looking to hire the BEST candidate (doesn't happen all the time, again I'm no fool).
I think that Rak has a great affinity for black folks. I also believe that Jesse and Al do as well. However, in their 'time', for lack of a better word, we needed what they had: Demanding our rights, protesting for us, and making room for advancements, so that we could get to a place (and we are NOT there yet) where someone like Rak can say that. Someone on here said that yes, black folks are all for personal responsibility. They are right. We've just never had a public figure show it as much, and as a result, sometimes YT thinks that we want handouts, when actually all we want is the same thing that everybody wants for themselves and their families.

And that was only because one of her co-workers approached my 5 year-old daughter, who was sitting behind me, and gave her a campaign sticker without asking me first while I was talking to my son. The problem was she did it without my permission, and after I already told her I didn't want one. Then this other woman had the nerve to try and run down the candidate's platform to me, and the first thing out of her mouth was that the lady works with children in Africa, as if that's going to the one thing that will sell me on her campaign.

But he also made similar remarks at the town hall meeting in Powder Srpings, GA last week (I was there), and at places other than that church on Father's Day. Obama, we get it. We need to get our stuff together. Cosby was correct when he said it, and we heard him. We got it. Why do you feel the need to continually talk about it? My criticisms to him are like those I'd lob toward my biological brother. But something is going on. It's like when Eddie Murphy, in a Saturday Night Live skit, disguised as a white man, went into a store, and discovered that---when white people were alone---the white cashier wouldn't charge the white customer anything, but let him/her have their items for free. I sense some other such pact slowly forming, where white folk (McCain supporters, Hillary supporters, the straight-up racists) are whispering to each other: "we ain't letting this n*gger lead us." Paranoia? Crazy? Yeah, maybe I'm losing my mind. But Obama needs to get more aggressive towards McCain, or this historic opportunity will be lost.

Dring SLavery Black men were socialized to be irresponsible as they were Bucks and breeders..taught and used to make babies so the slavemasters could sell them.....during this period of socialization (we learn what we live), Black men became indifferent and insensitive to family commitment as they wre often faced with the reality that their off spring could be sold off at any minute
Black men in AMerica were historically BUCKS and BREEDERS....so, if that's true, what did that socialization do to the Black woman?

Comment: Interesting speech but I'm also getting concerned about how the highlights seem to be only about how horrible AAs are, yes I realize there is more to each speech he has given but at this point I do need to hear about what he is going to do as President, food prices, gas prices, continued lay offs, a war etc., need more details about that instead of constantly preaching to the choir saying the things that have been said since before Martin Luther King was alive. None of this is new and there needs to be a change of venue, instead of talking to people that already know, take it to the people who are actually having the problems described in the speech and as I said about Cobsy offer another solution aside from stop that, don't do etc. Yes we are in jeopardy but as with every body who has said this they have not addressed how these problems have occurred, and how to deal with some people who do not seem to have the ability to resolve the issue on their own without help. If we have to talk about this, how about Obama saying that he is going to assure that each school no matter where has appropriate tools to teach, teachers have higher salaries, perhaps mandated parenting and nutrition classes epecially if you are receiving public assistance, reinstatement of funding for the after school social centers emphasizing tutoring, reading, computer skills etc. keep in mind not every parent is gifted enought to help with homework. Perhaps a change in the laws so that two parent families get incentives like so that it isn't easier for daddy's income not to be counted to get benefits for medical and groceries if you are at a certain income.

Using that tired excuse about how they were socialized doesn't even play well with the NAACP. It is time to wake up and straighten up! How do you think black men who conduct themselves properly and do what they are supposed to do feel about that? Frankly, it is condescending and insulting.

Comment: Jamer..all is well in the land of herb and honey...lol I am still 100% in Obama's corner. I have been witnessing things that I have been uncomfortable w/re: black folk. Make Farrakhan, Jessie, Al or anything identifiably "non-ken doll like" a pariah to Obama's candidacy and ultimate presidency. I notice how we are willing (good or bad) to accept the situation Obama is in, rebuke ourselves all in the name of electing him. Kewl. I happen to wonder what happens when he does become president? Black men have been fodder for people who mean us no good for too long. Obama adding fuel to that fire is bothersome. As much as we talk about Cosby, HE admitted that he had second thoughts on how he initially chose to talk about "us" because he didn't realize that it was just "us" who were watching. I read his book and enjoyed it immensely. At the same time, I criticized him heavily because I felt that he was allowing himself to become a pawn for the media. Despite the good, simple advice found w/in the book (balanced diets, doing homework w/your kids, taking them to museums, speaking to each other on the street etc) most of his interviews dealt w/the more headline worthy discussions. BLACK ON BLACK CRIME, 70% of black babies, speaking incorrect english etc. which represented the smallest part of the book. BUT, that's how it will always be remembered because that's what the media wants to focus on. That's the problem I see w/Obama's "black men" speeches. Yeah it's good to talk about, good to hear. But at what cost? Perpeutating falsehood? Black folk aren't knocking him for speaking the truth. Black folk aren't feeding their kids popeyes for b'fast. As much as we like to say that Obama is talking about "everybody"....what yt folk is her referring to w/popeyes chicken?

It seems that folks want to acknowledge that something's wrong but only want to keep it to themselves. A few months ago, I was listening to a morning radio show when the commentators were saying that Obama in office will shift the thinking of some folks. To this day, there are some that think they can't go to college but Obama squashes that theory because he has a BA and a law degree from Ivy League institutions.

One day the little girl was playing outside over a friend's house. A guest of one of the neighbors was coming out of the house and noticed her and started talking to her and telling her she was a pretty little girl. Turns out, dude didn't know he was talking to his daughter. Damn shame. As time went on they eventually met again and he was told about that particular day. She wrote him a hateful letter but her mother urged her not to give it to him. Anyway, he is now a man of the cloth, he is married to a white woman has other children and STILL does not talk to his daughter. She asked him how could he talk about God to other people and not acknowledge her. I said all that to say that responsiblity know no race.

Comment: Jamer...my problem is aptly demonstrated by naturalsista's recent post and those on this board. Everybody is on this board talking about the message "we" need to hear. Analyzing "our" community's problem. However, I have yet to read any message that talks about our problems outside of "black men." I wear a 9 1/2 and that shoe doesn't fit me. That does not mean that I should just be gung-ho about each and every time there is a discussion about what "we" need to do...black men are the sole focus of the discussion. Have you, at any point during this OR Cosby's tirades heard anyone focus on black women....other than how black men have failed them? Hell, the day that americans reserved for all the good men out in the world (Father's Day) could not have gone by w/MORE focus on what black men aren't doing. Plainly, I am getting sick and fkng tired of hearing about what people who look like me aren't doing. If you got your shyt right..good for you. But, it is not good that the only good things you hear about black men are bad. Is it something wrong w/talking about how the brotha in the hood made some'n out of himself. That's not a abnormal story. It's an everyday fkng story. More black men were not in prison than in college. Most black men are fathers to their children. Most blacks in the hood do raise "good" kids. The incessant need to "air our dirty laundry" is not airing the "our" laundry. It's painting black men as what society sees them as. Would it damage Obama to have a wall full of "real" black men standing strong behind him in ANY sort of event? Prolly not and he prolly will never do it. But, he would have a wall full of black women...or yt women for that matter. I need a mid-day drink cuz ya'll rising my pressure again.

Obama is an embarrassment and those congratulating themselves for swallowing his bullshyt must have some serious issues if you need that kind of "talking down to". Obama will continue holding you up for humiliating public beatings. I'm voting for McKinney and could care less about Obama. He has no love or respect for you black folks...keep believing he's showing you tough love. How utterly sad. Obama seems to believe he's now MLK and Malcolm X all rolled into one when talking "down" to blacks. He's putting on a "show" and buck dancing to save his life. Why aren't the social ills of different audiences exposed? No ones sees that as peculiar, huh? Comment: Barack delivered a speech on the war in Iraq and national security in Washington, DC this morning. He laid out his strategy for making America safer: ending the war in Iraq responsibly; finishing the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban; securing nuclear weapons and materials from terrorists and rogue states; achieving true energy security; and rebuilding our alliances to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
He said...
I am running for President of the United States to lead this country in a new direction – to seize this moment’s promise. Instead of being distracted from the most pressing threats that we face, I want to overcome them. Instead of pushing the entire burden of our foreign policy on to the brave men and women of our military, I want to use all elements of American power to keep us safe, and prosperous, and free. Instead of alienating ourselves from the world, I want America – once again – to lead.
As President, I will pursue a tough, smart and principled national security strategy – one that recognizes that we have interests not just in Baghdad, but in Kandahar and Karachi, in Tokyo and London, in Beijing and Berlin. I will focus this strategy on five goals essential to making America safer: ending the war in Iraq responsibly; finishing the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban; securing all nuclear weapons and materials from terrorists and rogue states; achieving true energy security; and rebuilding our alliances to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

Comment: yunvme, I agree with you but the truth be told, we as black people are irresponsible. How many white teenagers you see doing drive by shootings. 50% of african americans have bad credit, we'd rather buy bling then save the money, we'd rather go to jail then college. We are already sterotyped and we live up to those stereotypes every day and it gives the white man more and more leverage. We have it bad and I agree, we need to be reminded of it because if we are the original people and that's why we can do anything better than a WHITE man but yet we're still stuck in that slave mentality. I agree with Obama, get your azzes up and do better so we can take over this country and handle our business!

There are some that feels threaten, that if he can inspire a generation to do things differently that would mean that they failed. There are still causes that Jesse and Al can fight. I have never heard the brothers (Al & Jesse) speak about the staggering drop out rate, have you?

Comment: Obama was clearly trying to pander to white voters. If that's what it takes to become President, so be it. However, Obama knows Black folks and at some point he has to talk to us of us who are responsible and are doing the right thing. Let's focus on them sometimes. I know that there are a lot of Black fathers who are not being fathers. But the majority of the Black fathers that I know are very good fathers. This is my reality and I'm sure that it's the reality of other Blacks. The "personal responsibility" and "be a good father" speech is important, but it is tired because it has become the "Black speech". It's the standard message that is given to Black people whenever we are in a large group. The funny thing is that the people who need to hear the message the most are not sitting in the audience. The message in the "Black Speech" is universal and there are a lot of non-Black people who need to hear this message. I hope Obama talks to them, even though they ain't gonna listen.

I understand the frustration, but trust and believe that there are a lot of people out there who know positive brothers and know that they are the majority. The fact is that as human beings, we tend to look at the negative and that is what sells papers and has people writing on blogs lol! My feeling about all this is to start at the mirror which is the only place that you can 100% make a difference and then from there be an inspiration to others. I belive that to be true about Obama as well. He went through a lot trying to figure out who he was as a black man. I'm sure it took a lot of introspection and responsibility on his part.

When I grew up there were only (2) families within a mile radius that was a single family household. Now you would be lucky to find (10) black families within close proximity. This is a big deal. More and More children are being raised by one parent household. The grandmothers of old who used to help rear those children are all gone. We now have new grandmothers that like to go out with their children. Everyone has to play their part. Other nationalities has surpassed us economically. We are becoming the poorest nationality.

I don't go to therapy but I do personal development work on the regular through companies like Landmark Education (www.landmarkeducation.com) because to me its more thorough and definitely has a faster impact. Now, do I believe that's what most black people are suffuring from --ptsd and the like--I'm not sure, but I do believe that we certainly pass down from generation or maybe its through environment a collective thinking of how we are in this world. I know that discrimination and racism are real and that we could benefit from personal development or therapy so that we don't internalize these issues and can move forward through personal responsibility. I think a big part of the problem is that most young men aren't taught or encouraged to share their thoughts as openly as women do so that in itself causes problems because they internalize their feelings and get mad at the world instead of dealing with the issues...

So short of dying or dropping out of this race, so that their rat faced candidate can have another chance, there is nothing Senator Obama could do or say that would be right. And I love the fact that he himself is an excellent father. And you can see he is determined to make sure that his pretty little girls have what he didn't have...a father's love and presence. It makes all of the difference. And for those that are defensive, if you're a good father then he's not talking about you. Remember when your mother made you do your homework before you went outside to play & you better not go out with your school close on. Our foundation is dissolving right before our eyes. Hillary only suspended her campaign. If Barack is perceived to flip flop any more or disappoint his supporters anymore before the convention, the super delegates can still throw their support to Hillary. Comment: FYI:
"Double consciousness," in its contemporary sense, is a term coined by W. E. B. Du Bois. The term is used to describe an individual whose identity is divided into several facets.
|
|
|
Name:
khufu
Comment: The term originated from an 1897 Atlantic Monthly article titled "Strivings of the Negro People." It was later republished and slightly edited under the title "Of Our Spiritual Strivings" in his collection of essays, The Souls of Black Folk. He spoke of “this sense of always looking at one’s self through the eyes of others, of measuring one’s soul by the tape of a world that looks on in amused contempt and pity”, and of a two-ness, of being "an American, a Negro; two warring ideals in one dark body, whose dogged strength alone keeps it from being torn asunder."
Du Bois explained:
The history of the American Negro is the history of this strife, — this longing to attain self-conscious manhood, to merge his double self into a better and truer self. In this merging he wishes neither of the older selves to be lost. He does not wish to Africanize America, for America has too much to teach the world and Africa; he does not wish to bleach his Negro blood in a flood of white Americanism, for he believes that Negro blood has yet a message for the world. He simply wishes to make it possible for a man to be both a Negro and an American without being cursed and spit upon by his fellows, without losing the opportunity of self-development.

Here's a thing that made me go hmmmm? During the Rev. Wright and Jackson controversy Obama replied directly. Hispanics get special classes and special treatment...white kids go to white schools where there are no hispanics. so who gets the shaft? black kids!I see black kids in my classroom looking a hot mess and I try to be the mother/father that they are not getting at home. so when a teacher tells you she does not get paid enough..I urge everyone to believe them. We are mother, sister, pastor, cook, counselor and a whole bunch of other stuff. educator is the LAST thing we are on the list because if they are hungry I could talk all damn day and they would not remember anything. so I have a vested interest in my black kids cause if I don't care about them, they'll be left out in the cold and I can't have it. a black person is already treated as if they inferior. they won't feel that way in my room. and we as a people have to stop letting people including US treat us that way. I applaud Barack for being upfront and honest even when he KNEW he would be criticized. Black people are the hardest on their own kind. Look at how the brothas and sistas treated Bill Cosby. Barack knew what was gonna happen and did it anyway. Somebody cares about the perception of black people out there even if some of us don't. Keep on talking Barack!

http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200807/consumption
About seven years ago, University of Chicago economists Kerwin Kofi Charles and Erik Hurst were researching the “wealth gap” between black and white Americans when they noticed something striking. African Americans not only had less wealth than whites with similar incomes, they also had significantly more of their %*$ets tied up in cars. The statistic fit a stereotype reinforced by countless bling-filled hip-hop videos: that African Americans spend a lot on cars, clothes, and jewelry—highly visible goods that tell the world the owner has money.
But do they really? And, if so, why?

My posts about "media snippets" are consistent despite what you or ne1 else may think. I am NOT choosing today or this issue to decide that's it better to look at the whole context of the conversation rather than the snippet. FACT IS, we didn't nor did we inquire about "context" w/JJ. WE immediately went for the jugular. Not suprisingly, NOW we want to go back to 'read context." I said the SAME thing w/Wright because I thought it was unfair to base our outrage on the "snippets" from his NPC appearance. He said a lot of stuff..some I agreed w/some I don't. But yt folk also "got the gist of what he said," based on those snippets. JJ has said a lot I've agreed w/..some I don't. Yet, the resounding theme now about JJ from the BLACK community is that he has never talked about personal responsibility. WHy is that you ask? Because the media would NEVER air a story about him doing such and WE will follow suit..bolstering their claims about JJ blaming the yt man for everything. So the inconsistency is NOT on my part.

I'm sure she knows she's in the minority and that her comments will draw some opposition. But, like ya said and I've also said in an earlier post, she's entitled to her opinion. Life would be soooo boring if we all agreed on everything. It's nothing personal here as far as I'm concerned. Just comments/opinions. And if we don't agree with another's comments, we should be able to share that too. No?

You are OFF today homeboy. But I still love ya! Peace out

You don't have to grow up in "the hood" to be black or act a certain way or say certain things. His background is different so for him to pretend that he grew up in the hood or act that way would be disingenious and we would see right through it--what test do you want him to pass to show he's black--isn't the color of his skin good enough? He has to be neutral when trying to be president of a diverse coutry such as US--you don't get that??????????????

McCain is 71 going on death and I see very little about his age why b/c the less it's talked about the more people forget about it. His people try their darnest to not have the age discussion. He has to appeal and be concerned about all. If you read the article, he addresses other issues of concern and his solutions. By the way, why aren't you on the board questioning how McCain feels about all this? Newsflash--Obama will not solve all our problems--why not use him as an inspiration to take care of what our problems are. MY THING IS THIS--WHEN HE TALKS ABOUT THE ECONOMY AND NATIONAL SECURITY AND HEALTH CARE SOME ON THIS BOARD ACT LIKE THOSE AREN'T OUR ISSUES--THEY ARE!!! WHEN HE TALKS ABOUT PARENTING AND FATHERHOOD--SOME ON THIS BOARD TAKE IT ON AS ITS ONLY AFRICAN-AMERICAN ISSUES--THEY'RE NOT!! AND THAT'S NOT WHAT HE'S SAYING HE'S TALKING TO WHOMEVER THE SHOE FITS! Comment: Let me give you a little illustration here so you will see what I mean about choices to do better or not. A few months ago, my mother reminded her mother that it was her birthday. She didn't even give her the courtesy of saying "Happy Birthday," much less offer a present. It's like this every year.
Fast forward. This past weekend, they were having a phone conversation in which my grandmother asked my mom if she was going to attend her upcoming birthday party and bring her some money. She is bold like that. My mom said no. My grandmother then replied "I should have killed your mf azz when you jumped out of my azz." She also emphasized that she meant what she was saying. Mind you, grandma is 88. Yesterday, my cousin called mom and put grandma on the phone. She wanted to make nice and ask about flowers and so forth. My mom has experienced a great deal of anguish, stress, etc. as a result of this woman's behavior, but always swallows her pride and goes back. I can't even imagine a stable mother saying (and meaning) anything like that to her child under any circumstances.

Comment: The Holocaust Insurance Accountability Act of 2007 is now snaking its way thru committees, in preparation for what is to quite possibly be a huge extortion of money from the American tax payer.
Copied from the bill is this:
Experts estimate that the value in 2006 of unpaid life, annuity, endowment, and dowry insurance theft from European Jewry from the Holocaust and its aftermath ranges between $17,000,000,000 and $200,000,000,000.
(Dowry Insurance? WTF? We're supposed to pay off for a wedding ceremony that never took place?
What's next, puppy dog life insurance policies that weren't collected when "Spot" died?)
Who in the hell are these experts? They're not named, so we're supposed to take at face value an utterance from a Congress that will drop everything in a sec to service their Zionist masters in Israel, but could care less whether or not We the People sink or swim... literally.
This act will give Holocaust™ survivors, heirs, dependents, and others, access to U.S. courts for the purpose of entertaining legal actions against insurance companies, even when those claims have already been denied by European Courts. And let them pursue legal action and seek redress--MONEY--against insurance or RELATED companies and seek damages. (Related Companies? Is no one safe from the latest Holocaust™ money extortion scheme?)
And the amounts are to be TRIPLED and include interest.

But when it comes to him doing something specific for our group, then its, "we shouldnt expect that cuz JUST BECAUSE HES BLACK"...well if the 1/2 negro is black enuff to correct US (directly), shouldnt he black enuff to openly support/help US (directly).

In my neck of the woods besides the universal problems my folks have their their own agendas that need to be addressed. But, I'd love to move to a place where we can all be happy or suffer equally. It's all good though, rarely do I get involved in these deep conversations. I just had some free time on my hands today.

Comment: Kufu, I can see your point on that because I believe that some parents emotionally distanced themselves from their children because they could be taken away at the drop of a hat. Some also responded with cruelty and verbal abuse because that is all they knew. My point is that you have choices now. Why run your pressure up, stay awake half the night, call everybody down south to complain about what was said only to put up with the same mess all over again? Doing that only enables my grandmother. If she can think of something worse to say next time, she will. If ANYBODY said something like that to me, they wouldn't have to worry about hearing from me again, much less in a few days.

Comment: TGEN...oh really? Let's look at what I posted, "The majority of the clip does focus on the smallest part of his speech. BUT, that's the headliner and what the media will focus in on. Fact is, Obama first sent that message in his book and has been repeated throughout his political career. The resposibility in how "we" present ourselves does not stop at the the line leaving the hood. It also goes all the way to the burbs. He should be mindful (now that he is Barack the phenom) of how he presents our concerns and the stereotypes about us." ###### So I don't know who you are speaking of when YOU say to ME "if you read that whole speech and still only come away with "he told Black folks to get their stuff together and that was condescending," then that says more about YOU and less about Barack. You are OFF today homeboy." Based on the the earlier part of this post, most sane people would gather that your analysis of my position is WRONG and OFF! But I forgot, you can't disagree w/an Obama method less you be accused of "not seeing the bigger picture."

My grandmother has never been as bad as yours but she never treated everybody the same. she has one daughter that she likes and made a new will disinheriting my aunts and uncles for this one aunt. and she talks all kinds of nose. when we were at our brokest...she would go buy a family of four 10 bucks worth of food on her gold maerican express card. my mom has given her refrigerators and all kinds of stuff and all she did was give drama and talk crap. so when I was younger I would ignore but when I got older and she started talking %*$! to me...man I give the %*$! right back to her in SPADES! some people just talk crazy cause they know people are ginna take it. my grandma figured out I wasn't the one real quick and now she is sweet as pie. It may only go back a generation or it could go back prior to slavery for that matter or maybe it just started with that one person. You have to look at each each individually and not just say well, since she is black, it must be to slavery or if she is Asian it must be this, or WASP, it must be that. Without any level of objectivity, you will only find what you are looking for; hell, if you believe that the dysfunction is due to suppressed memories resulting from alien abduction. Again, I'm not saying that it could not be, but you always just can't assume.

Comment: Javone..so you would rather Obama talk about the 10% of parents who feed their kids popeyes for b'fast. Hence the problem, if we can acknowledge that 90& of black families send their kids to school prepared, why shouldn't the focus (publicly) be on those who are doing well. As a black man who hopes to raise a black son, I simply cringe thinking about the fact that he will have to endure the wrath of america against black kids. Where are the messages of "black men doing it big" publicly? Where are the messages of encouragement/empowerment for young black men pubicly? Can we really say that "we" hear it? Can we really say that our young black men are more prone to hear good things about people who look like them than those bad? If so, I would like to to start watching those channels. If we acknowledge that messages are POWERFUL (think hip-hop) why is it beneath us to acknowledge that there are very little positive messages being put out by our community and the media as a whole about black men? Our desire to "get the laundry out" should not absolve us of the responsibility of controlling our own message..just like we require of hip-hop. The people who are concerned about the perception of "us" does not stop at Obama's door. Most blacks are. Naturalsis...no foul. Your post simply reiterated my position that any talk about the "black community" is isolated to discussions about the ineptitude of black men.

But, he can't do nething specifically for our group (like he would Jews/Hispanics) JUST BECAUSE HE's BLACK. Does ne1 find this troubling. That we will allow him to talk to us about our problems...but he can't be seen as offering nething to us that isn't applicable to other groups. His talk of defending Israel has nothing to do w/black folk. His talk at La Raza about immigration and illegals being rounded up like cattle has nothing to do w/black folk...but a specific category of americans.

He's running for president so he is looking for the problems that we have as a nation that he can solve as well as what different groups of people need solved. Hence, he's not going to talk about the 90% that are doing right--he's talking about the 10% that needs to be corrected. He's talking to most Hispanics about immigration which is of great concern to them and to jews about israel which is of great concern to them. To us, he's talking about social issues which are of main concern to us. With all these groups he also talks about what universally affects us all. So, please tell me--straight question---if you were running for president what exactyly would you talk about then--if Obama is so wrong...

But back to gingerg's point, at some point a person has to make the decision to change, and if couseling is needed, great, however, everytime a black person comes in with a issue, a therapist shouldn't assume it can be traced back to slavery when it could just has well be related to a childhood trauma completely unrelated to any family issues.

Nobody knows a child is being abused until someone makes it known, and as good as some people try tomraise their kids it will come to your doorstep especially if that child is in your son's class and they become friends. Think about it this way Mus...let's say that a child is being abused at home but no one is taking notice. the child dies. what are we supposed to say? "aw damn! we could have done something about this child but we were too busy stroking the egos of those parents who do what they are supposed to." that is backwards reasoning. no one needs a pat on the back to be a good parent...that is something you should WANT to be whether it is acknowledged or not. our job is to protect children and help those who are not being helped by the people who are supposed to. I am not going to sweep one child under the rig just because the people next door are te perfect parents and if any of us do that then shame on us.

My mother deals with it by being a workaholic and damn near slave to her clients. She cleans houses and they will ask her to sit for the dog while they are on vacation, pack up the house when they are moving to anothe rcity, clean the windows, do the gardening, etc. and she says yes just to hear them say how wonderful she is and how they don't know what they would do without her. Yeah yeah yeah..we have the hill harper's of the world on our side. How many times have you seen him lead a national dicussion? Be interviewed on a major news network? Have his work or other black men who are doing their part acknowledged publicly? I don't "expect" Obama to be nothing more than what/who he is. However, I WOULD expect a black man..concerned about the image of all black men...to recognize whenever he begins these speeches where he criticizes black men..that it WILL be used to continue to tear us down despite his good intentions...that is unless you can show me a time where these conversations about black men have proven to be effective when presented publicly. Fact be told, Obama REALIZES that there are both social and more important, political ramifications of him continuing to make these "black men" speeches even though he recognizes that whenever he does...it only affects men who look like him and not the "community" he likes to talk about.

That way you can talk about the 'problems' without coming off as someone who is only pointing fingers. It's a subtle difference and I get Musbdherb's point. I still disagree, because when you READ the speech the whole "blacks must take responsibility" is not the central theme in there. And 'Herbs ought to understand nuance and context, because any other day on any other issue he's one of the first to point out context... or the lack of it.

Comment: JAMER/Exmun..so what else are we gonna have to "understand" about Obama's presidential run? I would much rather him say NOTHING about black men than just talk about us like we're worthless because he KNOWS that it exactly how yt people love to see us. Ex..I read the speech and yes subtle differences do matter. Through over 400+ posts, no one has even addressed the fact that black men are routinely beat over the head in our community and on the public stage and that Obama should be mindful of that when he speaks. The resounding theme is "well you gotta understand the position he's in"..."we need to hear it"...."he's speaking the truth" and blah blah blah. Factually, Obama is making some of these statements because of their acceptance by the wider community. BUT this same community is not really interested in doing anything positive w/his message. They only want to use it as justification for y they believe what they believe. When a black president is telling you that black men are trifling and we laugh it off and high-five him...don't expect the wider community to say much different. End result---black men on the receiving end. I don't care who the person is...context matters less in those instances...especially when the reasons are political. Although I'm sure many will conveniently not remember, I felt the same way about his political reasons for denouncing and rejecting the non-support from Farrakhan and his throwing Wright under the bus. I don't have to like everything he does and those things..coupled w/his refusal to have speeches about black men who are doing big things...does not draw me closer to him AT ALL. I work w/black men often who take the same approach when mentoring young black men. Instead of CONSTANTLY speaking messages of empowerment...they always come in telling "who not to be like" or what the rest of them are doing wrong. Enuff already..just STFU. THAT is just not a very effective message. It's just not.

A soldier that is having mental issues due to fighting in Iraq; if he's white its due to the war, but if he's black, it's due to slavery. GIVE ME A BREAK. There are any number of things that can happen in a person life at any time that could cause them to seek help. Comment: Once again Barack has made fools of us. I think his message is timely and necessary. However, the more he repeats it the more he sends the message that we as a group are irresponsible. As if we are not having this conversation in our barbershop, homes, schools, jobs, etc. Stop treating us like a bunch of uncultured savages. I don't hear him saying anything about police butality (i.e. Sean Bell), currently day racism, redlining by insurance companies, low performing inner city schools, etc. Sure we have many issues that can be solved with a upgrade in our personal behavior. But are we the only group??!! When he goes to Central Pennsylvania he bowls with the white boys and throws gutter balls and laughs about it. In rural Indiana he shoots hoops with white boys and yuks it up. Why is it when he comes to hang out with "us", he brings this moral responsibility message. Unless I'm seeing something different, I see a politician attempting to win over that golden prize required for winning---working class whites. He will do anything to blow smoke up their azz. Sounds like that slave on the plantation that massa uses to admonish the other slaves and remind them to obey. Remember the movies "Life". There was the character that always had the shotgun ready to shoot anybody that massa didn't approve of. Not saying BO is an uncle tom. But in his drift to the center, he's really beginning to sound like it.

Comment: khufu > It's interesting that you always find the need to put black women down when the subject is about black men. You mentioned earlier how promiscuous black women are and that they need to stop sleeping with these men and having babies. You seem to imply that women of other nationalities are not promiscuous. I’ll have you know I grew up in a predominantly white environment, Work in a predominantly white environment and have several friends of different races. Of them all, white women are the nastiness, most promiscuous of them all. Again, in high school and college, I was shocked at how many white girls drank and gave it away. Men would run trains on them all the time. Guess where I and the other black girls were? In our rooms, studying and helping the white girls get cleaned up when they came back to the dorms pissy drunk and raped. It's just an illusion.

Comment: Guys if you get a chance, always look for the online (news)-papers (NBC/ABC/Daily News/Daily Breeze/Telegram Press) in your areas, especially if they have a comment section following stories. Many of these are hosted by www.topix.com and any story about Blacks are immediately swarmed by racist whites with humilating comments about Blacks. I really could use the help of other Black reader disspelling the stereotypes Whites are writing about us in those comment sections. In this day and age, whites are hiding behind the internet to take shots at us as opposed to hiding under white sheets as in the olden days. See you on the net in your city.

Comment: He is right we need to stop blaming others and circumstances on why some of our communities are in the state that they are in. Racism and prejudice exists but our ancesters fought and died for equal opportunities and that did not stop them from achieving what they wanted and for future generations to have and continue to have. The fight will never be over. Some African-Americans believe the fight was over in the sixties but injustices sitll linger today and sometimes we are our worst enemy. We need to buck up! Especially alot our black men, buck up!
