Comment: in that case, interscope should be put on notice! i'm sure that the same label that banks on the likes of 50 cent, could giv a damn about what happens to black women. (or men, for that matter!) they need to know we've hit the wall w/that behavior. it's no longer 'business as usual'. and if they wonder why the 'record business' threw a rod, they need to look in their rearview mirror!

Comment: Now that R-ruh has, had and will continue to abuse "young" girls with parental consent obiviously), NOW they want to start of group exploiting women???? I wish them success, but I'm not impressed!

Name: javone77
Comment: The only way they are going to finally see that we are not with this negro is for us to stop buying his albums! I have NEVER been a fan of R.Kelly. When the first 12 play came out I was disgusted. hwo are you gonna be singing about what you and your girl do in the bedroom? UGH! You singing "He changed me" while peeing on little girls. Nasty motha %&^$#(**&!

Comment: It is good to see where our people will take stands, and boycotts have been quite effective in sending messages to those who do things that are disrespectful to our community or in general. Now the question I would ask are we going to boycott Michael Jackson ?do we boycott Lil Wayne or T.I.who not only has a drug past like Lil Wayne but is currently awaiting senticing on gun charges ?do we shun Will Smith for his quoted statements about his marriage?I in no way am going to defend R. Kelly although I will accept the verdict no matter how I feel just like in OJ's case, what I want to say is I would like to see the same type of energy in our communities for larger issues. Those who post here who are from the Atlanta area who are familiar with Clayton county which is in the metro area,it is over 60%black and has a school system about to lose it's accreditaion which will affect over 52,000 kids because of the school board, they will not qualify for state scholarships, there are problems with the sheriff, the DA,and the school board, all of the people in these jobs are AA (the scool board did have two white members)and yet with these issues there was only a 21% turnout at the polls just last week!I used this example to illustrate that the things that can alter not just how we live now,but futures still developing and certainly important it seems the commitment is so lacking, the type of outrage that I see when an Imus or Jesse,or R kelly disturbss us I hope will rise when these things much closer to home occur, and to borrow a phrase create some change we all can believe in.

Comment: well, for the record, i had a copy of "12 play" in my collection. had been there for years. i came across it last week, appluad me for trading it in at a used cd store for a copy of "theolonius monks dream".

Comment: Considering that Kevin Powell was the brother on one of the early 'real world' shows that was asked to leave and that blamed racism for everything - brother has come a long way - and now he's a congressional candidate?! I wonder if this boycott is too little too late? I wonder if it can be effective since ruh has such a large stupid as.s following. Best of luck but I already have never purchased the man's music - I don't care how good it is!

Name: javone77
Comment: somehow it doesn't surprise me that you have a copy of that cd huey lol

Name: McNasty
Comment: Good choice Huey - I love TM!

Name: McNasty
Comment: Gr888 You'd be hard pressed to get anyone to boycott MiJac - he had no credible witnesses at his trial but his downfall and absolute shame took a toll on his finances and his reputation in the US. He has already suffered and continues to suffer - especially at the man in the mirror. As for the rest - their crimes have nothing to do with what ruh did or what MiJac was accused/acquitted of. You reached for that one!lol

Comment: >Mcnasty, Kevin Powell has a long and violent history, including armed threats against women. There was an article about him in the Daily News Op-Ed section yesterday. He should feel free to STFU!

Name: javone77
Comment: huey: we'll work on getting you to a new place mentally lol if you would just stop being so stubborn!

Comment: the difference with R-uh and Michael is that there was a tape clearly showing what R-uh was doing with a minor. As much as it may have seemed suspicious with Michael, there was no explicit evidence like that. As far as comparing with those with a drug past, usually with drugs you hurt yourself (unless you are abusive or stealing from those around you), with R-uh he was clearly hurting another person. I dunno, i guess people can pick and choose their battles as they choose. And for me, what R-uh was doing is one of those battles. But as the poster mentioned, none of these celebs is perfect. they all have some kind of dirt in their lives....

Comment: Can I just say reading this, “Black Men Against the Exploitation of Black Women” made me smile. I was like, "FINALLY." lol And McNasty, you're right, Kevin Powell--a confessed former woman beater--has come a loong way. Good for him. But G888, you bring an interesting broader perspective. Good post.

Comment: I will still support him, he was found not guilty on all charges and that's that. Why now is this group coming up with this, rappers have been disrespecting females for so long but I guess now they feel they can cause harm to Kelly. They should be very careful what they do, God is the only judge here.

Name: kwrob
Comment: The R to the K to the E, okay enuf ole school talk,...he did a whole Gospel album and other Gospel songs before he got caught on tape. Talk about hypocritical. An Javone, I understand your sentiment about never being a fan, but there a vast amount of people who are still fans and always have been. So it will be quite hard to put a dent in his bottom line just based on that, but not impossible. About the only thing that would definitely derail his career is if people outgrew his music, or he just start putting out wach stuff. Look at Michael Jackson. The kiddie games in his bedroom wasn't what really hurt his career. It was his wack music. After he did Thriller, he just couldn't live up to that expectation anymore, even the album with "Remember The Time" on it. Of course there may have been some other factors as well, (his basic weirdness in public, his discoloration and disfiguration of his original face, his lackluster public performances on t.v., and the public outgrowing him). Incidently, Mike loves R.Kelly's music.

Comment: Okay this mutherfuvker been going through this shyt for how many years and now a bunch of trifaling azz brothers want to start a boycott...everyone of them should have individiually boycotted the sick fuvk years ago as I have...

Name: kwrob
Comment: DCGG, Well people didn't. But that doesn't mean because they didn't they should not now. Anytime is a good time to start a boycott of something that is wrong, whether they waited a long time or not. How long do you think our ancestors have been going through lynchings and other atrocities before somebody got fed up and decided to sit in the front of the bus or at the lunch counter? If Black folks had your kind of thinking, we still would not be able to vote, work at Fortune 500 companies, or be in a real postion to be a mayor of a city let alone President of the U.S. Get your head outta your butt for once.

Name: Mas90
Comment: Kelly is going to get that deal with Interscope, I can almost guarantee it. Interscope is nortorious for picking it up raunchy/controversial artist. I don't if Kelly go independent because he has spent so much money in paying lawyers. The real threat or reaction should be will be the artist that boycott from using Kelly has a songwriter or feature artist on their songs. That's the real true boycott... your own peers!

Name: huey
Comment: kwrob ----ditto...

Name: SUGA32
Comment: Mas90, you made an excellent point regarding his peers. He has written and featured for many. We shall see.....mmm

Name: Mas90
Comment: *Correction: I DOUBT if Kelly go independent because he has spent so much money in paying lawyers. The real threat or reaction should be IF OTHER artists will boycott from using Kelly has a songwriter or feature artist on their songs. That's the real true boycott... your own peers! GOD ONLY IF I WOULD PROOF READ!

Name: B00TANEB00TUS
Comment: ....Yo, didya know that Robert-pee-Kelly is a Senator Obama supporter...He even wanted to write a song for the Senator...Somethin 'bout young girls joining hands and walking in a shower of gold...Raks people told him to GTF outta here...Kelly's gonna do 'nother gospel CD...and people will buy it 'cause if they boycott it...then Kelly will say folks are boycotting the Lawd...Because he was inspired and ya'll know folks aint 'gon boycott the Lawd...Then once he's been forgiven he'll go back to pissing on folks...'cause that's what that sick-muthafuccer does...While I applaud the efforts of the community group to boycott Robert...I don't think it's gonna be effective...He's gotten too powerful now...We shoulda stopped him or at least contained him long ago...Now, I feel we're too late to stop him....He's outta control and will doom us all....

Name: unclekipper
Comment: why can black folks always divert the issue? the issue is r. kelly! not kevin powell. not o.j. not michael jaxon. not clayton county schools, (and i do understand. i live in atlanta.) we are so good pointing the finger and not being accountable. either we are going to stand up for r. kelly and support his right to have sex /and urinate on our daughters/nieces, or we were gonna stand up for them and not support his child molesting activities.

Name: javone77
Comment: Boot: PLEASE don't let that fool write a song for obama lol that would do me in.lol and you can blame huey for the love line.lol anyway, while I have read the posts the main thing I can think of is that when talking about those other people..of course micheal only had words this fool has a damn video! and he decided that he was going to pick on the most vulnerable group in society...children. and that little girl got no justice because of her greedy %*$ parents. smh

Name: DCGG
Comment: KWROB nobody said that folks couldn't boycott his azz now...the point that I was making was where were these black males all these years? Sometimes things have to start on an individual basis and I made a conscience decision years ago NOT To support his azz or anyone associated with him...black folks love all that bullshyt "feel good" protesting and marching and so-called boycotting...then go back home, fry up some chicken, high-five each other and act like their work is done...

Name: adifferentpath
Comment: even if kevin has a violent history, I appreciate him for standing up to his own demons (IF) as well as this and other actions he's taken. he has grown. and frankly, what does kevey kev, have to do with R-uh? that chump molesta-molesta is a piece of gar-bage' and we know it. 12 play 4 quarter with 20 seconds to go, you can punt that shyt, his %*$ is outta here on a flagrant foul and he's done! -in my book. I ain't neva bought that mess and Huey- STANDING UP CLAPPING- gone and get your T.Monk on! Kelly's pissy behind.

Name: SweetieDarlin
Comment: This is real funny, when men try to stand up for something, we shut them down, then many of the same people turn around and say where are the strong men, how come they aren't trying to do something to protect the community, JEEZ! People talking about R was found not guilty, yeah but he still is a fricking molestor, so what he's talented, with that kind of backwards thinking we can forgive anyone for anything if they sing well enough or are cute enough....

Name: Mas90
Comment: sweetie... ur right. the beautiful, fine, good looking people get a pass. I can relate. :-)

Name: MER82
Comment: Much respect to real men for standing up for women and girls without waiting for accolades and women to do it for them!!! Perhaps no one boycotted in the past because folk thought in due time (dam!) justice would prevail, since it did not, its time to take action. Its never too late to act and negroes kill me, we can't NEVER be satisfied. I say boycott the heyell outta that mutha%*$!a and maybe it will shame the fools out there who still support his trifling azz and the artists who still want to work with him. Maybe folk will finally get a clue and get out and do something-instead of just poppin their jaws.

Name: Mas90
Comment: WOW! Is a change really coming??? (Obama, R Kelly boycott, Black women not Black video-hoes, Gay marriage, Electric cars, Legal Mexicans) LOL

Name: MER82
Comment: Mas...u r a fewl!!!!!!!! LOL.

Name: MzTee
Comment: SD...kudos my sista on your post. We as black folks ain't never satisfied and when folks do take action, they are criticized for it being too little or too late. HELLO...we all gotta start some damn where. Give the brothers some credit for standing up and taking action. The name of the group is 'Black Men Against the Exploitation of Black Women,' which leads me to believe that other groups and individuals will be targeted in due time. R. Kelly is probably their first target.

Name: bigchassie
Comment: i'm curious. what i want to know is this. eventhough R-ruh has been aquitted, did the courts register him as a child molester?

Name: Mas90

Comment: Black men against the exploitation of black women??? What the hell is that?? First, Im sick of black men taking the clip for everything wrong in black womens lives. Second, I wouldn't lift one finger for you sad, ungratful women of today, with your shouts of "independence" and we don't need men, I'll just sleep with and rely on my girlfriends; chants and raves; and the ever increasing violent movies, lyrics, videos, and tv shows that depict violence against men done by women. Funny how Angelina Jolie can beat the crap out of a man/men on the big screen and everyone in the audience claps. If the shoe were on the other foot films like those would be boycotted! So, come to the aid of women in society?? HA HA HA!!! You must be joking! You people let me know what you think of men everytime I step outside, turn on my radio, tv, and especially when I drive past all the "women only" places that have "polluted" our cities. I remember seeing signs like those in books, except they said, "WHITES ONLY". Chew on that ladies. You drew first blood.

Name: Justconcern
Comment: javone77 and mandinka99 said it all 4 me LOL Pee-ing Piper thats a good one! Me personally I've never been a fan of R Kelly as a mother of many daughters and sons his behavoir is dispicable 2 me!!!!!! be gone R Kelly I support the boycott pray it works!!!!!

Name: chelle73
Comment: tell kevin powell to start a boycott about black men who abandon their kids. who refuse to pay child support who refuse to work who call black women %*$!(es and hos why isnt kevin powell boycotting rappers? cause he know one of them will clown him and dig up some dirt on him. has anybody even read that petition. many of the names on their are fake. and kevin powell and his other lap dogs are jokes. they don't give a sh!t about black women they have their own agenda and it isnt helping the black community.

Name: Lancealot
Comment: Can't they think of something more helpful to the cause to boycot. Inner city schools, black men killing each other, black pregnat teens, drugs, black men going to jail instead of college, Asians running most black business, etc.
