Comment: This has been one sad weekend. Two greats gone in as many days. Here in Memphis they've been flooding the news about Hayes. Makes me think about the inevitable.

Name: goodnplenty1957
Comment: info> i have a brother who lives in Memphis. him and his wife knew Issac for a very long time. they are saddened and shocked. But as you said, it does make you think about the inevitable. BLACK MOSES & THE MAC MAN. Two gentleman loved by all and who will be sorely missed by millions. R.I.P. gentlemen.

Name: missgee
Comment: My condolences to the McCullough Family. I thought Bernie Mac was a very gifted funny comedian and he will truly be missed May God Bless His Soul.

Name: huey
Comment: R.I.P. Mac Man, i will be purchasing a copy of "the kings of comedy" for my own documentation library of your comedic skills....

Name: B00TANEB00TUS
Comment: ...I remember watching Kings of Comedy...everybody on the bill was funny...but when Bernie came on and told those jokes 'bout his sistahs kids...the lil boy being a fagg0t..."I want some milk and coooookies"...and the one 'bout the stuttering boy and the bus driver...I was sore from laffing...My insides ached...It was like somebody punched the sh1t outta me...He was a great comedian...I didn't know him personally but it felt like I did...I was deeply saddened by the news...RIP

Name: Selah
Comment: It wasn't what he said, it was how he said it. I've heard that a comedian doesn't have to curse to be funny. But I tell you, nobody fired them off like Bernie.

Name: Penelope
Comment: I ain't scared of you! Bernie Mac, and then Issac "Shut your mouth" Hayes. Funny how I have to remember who actually played Shaft, but can always remember who wronte the song. These two fine men will be greatly missed. I know we often posts condolences when we hear of the passing of celebrities, but in this case, my heart is really heavy this morning. Rest in Peace my brothers!

Name: B00TANEB00TUS
Comment: ...I remember he was interviewd on O's show once...She asked him how was he able not to "go Hollywood" with his sudden fame...He said Hollywood didn't make him...His fans made him and thats where his loyalty was...He was one of the few comedians that I would stand in line to get a ticket...

Name: javone77
Comment: Boot you have never lied! Those parts were among the funniest in the show. My dad stutters so it made it even crazier to me. He fought for a long time and it was probably just God telling him that it was ok to let go. We love you bernie. I bought Kings of Comedy as soon as it came out on dvd....it was that funny.

Name: honee1
Comment: Wow Bernie Mac dead it seems sooo surreal. I feel like I have lost a friend. He is one of the greats and will be sorely missed. Much love to his family. "It's gone be trouble trouble" without you Mac Man.

RIP sweetie. i know you and Issac are cuttin it up in heaven right now, and all God can do is Shake his head and laugh and welcome you two home. but we will miss you on earth.

Name: oldschoolbrother
Comment: In shock is not even what I can describe this weekend. First Bernie Mac then Issac Hayes. The feeling of mortality never felt so cold.

Name: NYCsoul
Comment: My sympathies to Bernie's family and friends. I can't imagine what his wife and daughter are going through at this moment. After reading the circumstances surrounding his death, it makes one scared to stay in the hospital. The fact that he contacted a second strain of pneumonia in the hospital is scary. May Uncle Bernie rest in heavenly peace.

Name: bigchassie
Comment: YALL..WE NEED TO TAKE BETTER CARE OF OURSELVES AND OUR LOVED ONES. IF THEY DON'T WANT TO GO TO THE DOCTOR...DRAG THEIR BUTTS! we are clocking out way before our time. Bernie Mac was only 50 years old. at the height of his career. i know When God calls you, you got to go. we all gonna go, but dayimmit, don't make him call us home before our time.

Name: Exmun
Comment: RIP Bernie Mac. You'll be missed.

Name: QueenCityBee
Comment: I have a memory of having the pleasure of seeing the mac man a the airport one morning after he completed a show. It was a sunday morn. about 7am I was looking tore up, I had just thru something on to run & put up my tix for the bahamas in 1999. When I saw him come thru I couldn't just stand there & not say nothin so I shouted out "what up Bernie" He hollared back "what up baby" I felt good. Now when someone says who u wit he can happily say "Jesus"

Name: shulamite
Comment: NYCsoul... Bernie Mac's death was a perfect storm waiting to happen. Sadly, the hospital is really a place for the healthy - especially being on a vent (almost all hospital infections come from vents or caths). With his diminished lung capacity AND being on immunosuppressives... I'm not surprised. Sad, but not surprised.

Name: lilmocc
Comment: RIP, Bernie. I feel like I lost 2 distant family members this weekend with the loss of Bernie and Isaac. You will be missed, but you leave wonderful memories, loved ones, family and friends to carry on your legacy. Jangalang, Jangalang!! (smile)

Name: TAZBABY
Comment: RIP Bernie Mac and Thanks for the laughs. He was one of my favorite comedians and I was so hurt Saturday when I found out he passed away, I was praying and hoping he would bounce back. My condonlences to his Family.

Name: nightshift
Comment: RIP Uncle Bernie.

Name: amethyst
Comment: Bernie Mac was one of my favorite comedians. "Ameeerica, did you see that?" It was that serious look on his face and the tone of his voice that made his words 4 times as funny. My prayers go out to his family. I'm sure heaven is really cracking up as Bernie joins Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx, and Robin Harris. Life is short, folks, so let's make great memories and don't sweat the small stuff while we are on this side.

Name: SpecialK
Comment: I feel like a relative died. I just got out the shower on saturday and heard the dj say the "late" Bernie Mac. I almost bust my azz trying to get to the tv. What a blow to the black entertainment industry. Two greats gone in two days. May God bless and comfort Bernie's family. I still can't believe he's gone.

Name: CrazzeeGyrl
Comment: I met Bernie in 91 or 92 when He and DL were in Pennsylvania. He got on the elevator with us and one of the things he kept talking about was his wife. He was friendly and so cool.

Name: Quanli
Comment: Feel likes I lost an uncle! It's still hard to believe. R.I.P.

Name: 6footah
Comment: This makes me so sad. I am going to miss Bernie.

Name: 6footah
Comment: I loved when he would say, "I'm gonna bust you in the head til the white meat show." I had so much respect for him once the Bernie Mac show came out. He had a lot of integrity.

Name: gingerg
Comment: My thoughts and prayers go out to Bernie Mac and his family. Some things should remain private. The sister-in-law was wrong to disclose that information, but I'm glad that Bernie was with the person who loved him most in his final moments.

Name: duckapoo
Comment: I'll miss you, Uncle Bernie.

Name: SpecialK
Comment: gingerg: I thought the same thing. That was a private moment that should stay private. I don't need that visual in my head.

Name: ATLGirl
Comment: With all due respect, who is Najee Ali and why does he get so much press here? I never see him mentioned on other websites.

Name: Southernbelle
Comment: My heart is heavy this morning yall. Two great men in one weekend is too much to bare. RIP, brother Mac. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Name: katgrrrl
Comment: R.I.P. Mr. Funny Man. Mack is one of my favorite comics. It'll be weird not hearing anything new... I remember seein' Kings of Comedy in the theater. I swear, people were sleeping/snoring. The only one who got laughter from the audience was Bernie. I'll miss his stand-up and his movies/tv shows.

Name: dcdouglass01
Comment: I was watching some clips---from some old Def Comedy Jam standup to some of his movie work---and it was clear that Bernie, from about the start of his TV series forward, had reached a level of comedic genius that few comedians will ever realize. He was totally comfortable with who he was, understood his own brand of comedy better than anyone, and could translate it (without compromising it) to the audience, even in something as simple as, say, a five minute cameo as a used car salesman in "Transformers" (youtube.com/watch?v=rHHxbvlD-4s&NR=1). Fifty is way too young, but at least he was able to fully blossom into the awesome talent that he became.

Name: bigchassie
Comment: DCDOUG>you are soo right. fifty was way too young to go.

Name: MzTee
Comment: I'm still shocked over Bernie Mac's death. Saw the Kings of Comedy when it was in theaters and enjoyed everyone's set, but Bernie stole the show with all of the bits other commenters have mentioned. I don't think I ever laughed so hard in my entire life. I am going to miss his brand of humor. He was truly one of a kind.

Name: Closet_Nerd_Girl
Comment: This is so sad. This has been an awful weekend for black men in entertainment. It's always sad when a young person leaves here. 50 is YOUNG!RIP Bernie, and I know you ain't scared! :-) My prayers go out to his family.

Name: VeeCee
Comment: I learned this sad news while on the Eastern Shore (MD) this weekend and my prayers go out to the MacCullough family. The Mac Man will definitely be missed....

Name: JustTellingTheTruth
Comment: ATLGirl--- I was wondering the same thing! Maybe Najee Ali is related to someone at Eurweb? I guess you get your airtime or your 15 mins the best way you can! Last I heard, they're supposed to have a public memorial this weekend at the House of Hope for Bernie. Not certain if that's where the funeral is being held on Friday.

Name: AngieBee
Comment: It was indeed a sad weekend. I was still processing this sad news when I heard about Isaac Hayes. My hearfelt condolenses to the McCullough family and to Bernie Mac's friends as well. Rest In Peace, Mac Man. I know you got heaven laughing out loud!!!!

Name: whynotme
Comment: this same thing happened in 2006 with ed bradley & gerald levert dying back to back ......RIP bernie & isaac.

Name: MomaKnowz
Comment: Yes, this was too much sad news for one week. God bless the families of both these great men. To any family or those close to the McCullough family, please, please investigate as to whether or not Bernie was diagnosed and properly medicated. As someone else mentioned, Sarcoidosis can be misdiagnosed as asthma and then mis-treated (perhaps-compromising the ability to heal). It bears looking into. The pharmaceutical world has gotten callous of late. You've seen the commercials - "This medication may cause - and they recite a horrible list of "complications" that can include death from taking that med. While it won't bring Bernie back, if there was mismanagement of his illness, Mrs. "Mac" can seek remedy. It's all so very sad, because he was so young and so great. God Bless.

Name: PTown
Comment: Pretty tough weekend for family, friends, and fans. Bernie Mac. **SIGH**. Pretty tough pill to swallow. And he suffered tremendously. This is not easy to hear. I keep seeing his face and hearing his voice. And his life on earth here is gone. What a great talent.

Name: PTown
Comment: ATLGirl: Good point. Najee Ali is more of a local faux pas celebrity in the Greater Los Angeles Area. . And, I did say faux pas. HOWEVER, Lee Bailey used to be very prominent/dominant in the Los Angeles area during the legendary prime time of R & B - the eighties. And since Lee Bailey manages/owns this site. . . Well, Um. I guess we can all do the math. I, personally, would like to know what he does as a verifiable w-2 source of income. 1099, something.

Name: 4462DG
Comment: I was working and well internet surfing and I saw the mention of Bernie Mac's passing, I thought, wait they rumored this earlier this week, let me see some more confirmation after I got it I had tears in my eyes, for some reason his passing got to me. Perhaps it was because he seemed like an favorite uncle, needless to say, I didn't stay at work much longer, life is too short!!!! Deepest sympathies to his loving, devoted family and fans!!!!

Name: librason
Comment: Someone posted that it felt like they lost a relative. That is so true. Funny... u never know how many lives you touch. His voice could make you laugh. Even his small skit on Kanye's CD made me laugh. Talking about his back pack. Damn! We gonna miss you brother. May God keep you and love you as much as we do. Peace & Blessings.

Name: nightshift
Comment: Quick question...during the "Kings-of-comedy", I had always heard that there was tension between them, especially Steve Harvey..him wanting to be the big-kahuna and al. I ask because when they interviewed him about uncle Bernie's passing, he was wishy-washy in his remarks. Just wondering.

Name: Southernbelle
Comment: Can someone please tell me what's up with Steve Harvey? This morning I tuned into his show b/c I thought i would have heard a dedication to Bernie this morning and I got nothing. I brushed that off and tuned into TJMS and they had DL Hughley on talking about Bernie in tears. I've also heard from Cedric but nothing from Steve. This morning I decided to check out Steve's web-site b/c I figured he may have decided to say something there and all I found was a link to another site mentioning the death. But, BAW has a whole dedication on their front page. Were Steve and Bernie beefing? Maybe it's just me but I was expecting much more from him on this.

Name: Winn30344
Comment: I remember seeing him in Atlanta at the Kings of Comedy and the crowd just erupted when he came out..fine, tall; darkskinned brother walking out there with all that confidence..I ain't never seen anyone with such a sexy walk..listening to TJ this morning I was just crying..he will truly be missed.

Name: Southernbelle
Comment: Damn nightshift we were ><. Man I hope that is not the case. I'm hoping someone will come on here and say it ain't so b/c if it is. I am so done with Steve Harvey.

Name: bigchassie
Comment: to be real honest, Steve Harvey was not my cup of tea in the first place. shoot, Cedie was funnier than him. when i think of Bernie Mac, i think about him in the movie, "The Players Club" "THERE'S GONNA BE TRUB-BULLE, TRUB-BULLE!! LOL!

Name: khufu
Comment: thank you Bernie Mac for the time you spent here and the gift of self-reflection and laughter you gave us

Name: Janissi
Comment: Like everyone else, I am deeply saddened at the passing of two wonderful icons: Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes. What a weekend this has been. My 77 year old mama loved her some Uncle Bernie - and so did I (she said she can't watch the show anymore after his death). Bernie was a comic genius. He is one of few comedians that could make me laugh so hard, I'd be in tears. Damn, I'm gonna miss him. Thank God he lives on via movies and television. Can't forget Black Moses. I remember my brother playing the "Shaft" soundtrack so much it would skip. I loved me some Isaac. Even though they aren't physically w/us, they left us w/so many memories. RIP Mac Man and Black Moses.

Name: nightshift
Comment: Southernbelle, based on what you wrote, I guess there must be something to it. The very least he could've done was play a track. I never got a good vibe from Steve, I listen to his show, but he always has to be the one that KNOWS everything.

Name: SweetieDarlin
Comment: We all miss Bernic Mac, he did so much but there so much more---of course that is just wishful thinking for one of his fans. He is a Chicago's own, and never really left the Chicago area, because unlike others, he appreciated the area and truly considered it his home. His talent can not be topped plus the fact that he wasn't afraid be himself and 'make us like it'. So many times he was ahead of his time----y'all remember Midnight Mac on HBO? A variety show in modern times like the one that our generations (those of us born in the late 50s, early 60s) used to watch with our parents (but for grown folks) His sitcom was sublime because he didn't show sassy azzed kids without a counter adult reactions and the human part of the show always come through, it never seemed contrived. Shoot I could go one and on, so let me stop now. SOUTHERNBELLE> To answer your question Steve Harvey host Chicago's Bud Biliken parade saturday when the news was announced, he said that he and Bernie had their issues but they were resolved and he was going to dedicate his Monday show to Bernie---that didn't happen? HMMMM maybe he decided to let Tom Joyner do his first, then he would do his (hoping.) Although I'm not a great fan of Steve's I can see him being that petty to take a beef to the extreme that he could not honor someone who in a lot of ways was very much like him (of course Bernie was an legit family man, and had more class...)

Name: ladybyrd
Comment: bigchassie> I hear what you are saying but that wouldn't have helped Bernie. He went to the doctor often which is how he learned of the disease. I am going to miss this man.

Name: whynotme
Comment: i listened to steve harvey this morning and he had cedric & DL call into the show and they all were talking about their memories of bernie mac. he was also playing music in memory of bernie mac & isaac hayes but maybe that was just on WHUR in DC.

Name: Southernbelle
Comment: Thanks, whynotme. I heard Steve mention that he was only in the mood for old school music today but I didn't hear him say specifically why (even though I had a hunch). Maybe I missed his dedication. It must have been a hit and miss b/c I listended for a good half hour before I decided to move on. I hoped that any problems they may have had is forgiven, at least in death.

Name: whynotme
Comment: --->Southernbelle it was during the 9:00 hour and even before that he mentioned both bernie mac & isaac hayes. steve said that when he is sad he only plays old school music.

Name: Venus
Comment: >SweetieDarlin, I remember Midnight Mac on HBO. I have been a fan of the Mac Man since the early 90's. I saw him do his routine on a unmemorable comedy show and I was hooked. It was the funniest routine I had ever seen. The way he talked and the way he delivered his jokes. I was so happy when he finally got the recognition he so richly deserved. RIP MAC Man. You will be truly missed.

Name: Fragrance
Comment: R I P Bernie Mac! I listened to Steve Harvey show out of Los Angeles so it must have been taped...but he did justice to dedicating his whole morning show to Bernie Mac. He had George Wallace call in (as well as DL Hugley and Ced)and George Wallace said that he knows death comes in 3's and he didn't sleep last night (so they joked but gave Bernie much love and respect)

Name: Zumbagirl
Comment: I'm glad to hear Steve Harvey did include a dedication to Bernie Mac on his radio show. Several years ago, when his radio show was here in L.A., he mentioned a rumor that Bernie had allegedly complained that Steve had tried to wrestle a role won by Bernie for himself (Steve) and that Bernie further lamented that for Steve everything is always "all about him." For many weeks/months thereafter, Steve and his radio crew clowned about the "all about him" remark.

Comment: Zumbagirl I remember that!

Name: missgee
Comment: This is how rumors get started as mentioned in some post here. Steve Harvey did mention Bernie Mac and Issac Hayes passing on his show Monday morning, and as stated Cedric, D.L. Hughly and George Wallace called in and gave their respects to Bernie Mac. So people don't start trying to start confusion where there isn't any. Some of you are the same ones that blasted Bernie Mac a few weeks ago for whatever was said at the Barack Obama Dinner so keep it real.

Comment: the comedian world will never b the same. I understand what Rhonda his wife must b going through on this day of his funeral.i'm on my way to church 2 bury my last grandmother. Be Becourage Wanda! and Je'Niece! Earth has no sorry that heaven can;t heal!!!!! Praying 4 U and UR Family!!!
