Comment: Even if it WAS a memorial service, or funeral, etc., the fact remains that Isaac Hayes was a Scientologist (something I find very shocking), and his beliefs/faith should be respected.

Name: JustTellingTheTruth
Comment: If the memorial service was being held @ a "neutral" nonreligious place such as an arena, the Scientologist folks wouldn't be making any noise. They're tripping bcuz the memorial is being held at a "church". Either way it's silly. As long as they're participating in the the memorial or the final services, all of this drama is unnecessary. I guess next Tom Cruise will show up to have a "showdown". Whatevah..they all need to G.A.D.L!!!!

Name: B00TANEB00TUS
Comment: ...Isn't scientology the one where the space-ship comes down and beams it's followers up? Maybe there wasn't enuff clearance for the mothership to land at that church...Just asking...Don't know much 'bout the religion...

Name: Luke_Cage
Comment: What the fugg B00T? Did you say the followers get beamed up? -LMAO!!! And not to say anything about anyone's religion, but what is it exactly? Everytime I look up Scientology, it's not quite clear what form of religion (if that's what they refer to it as) it actually is.

Name: JustTellingTheTruth
Comment: @BOOT-- that was a good one! Anything can probably be classified as a "religion" these days especially if it has a "celebrity" following. Next week, the Man on the Moon will probably be featured as the new spokesperson for Scientology -- give Tom Cruise a break.

Name: Ky901
Comment: If this is a memorial and nonreligious event, why have it in a sanctuary or a church...

Name: nightshift
Comment: With the exception of wearing "spock" ears or My-favortie-martians antenae, how can they know a scientologist is walking in the door?

Name: SilentJay
Comment: Personally this is one of my biggest hangs up about Religion. Issac Hayes has passed on, whether it the angels or a spaceship is besid the point. Who he worshiped and what he believed is for no one to judge. The competition of who's faith is greater which is what Religion is ALL about should not have played in to his memorial service.

Name: detroitgee
Comment: Why are they making his death and memorializing him a negative. Whether a Scientologist, a Budist, Baptist or Democrat or Republican attends the fact remains he's dead. These services are for the living and they always want to make the a big deal out of nothing

Name: DawnDuhDuh
Comment: For those who are interested: Scientology is a body of teachings and related techniques developed by American science fiction author L. Ron Hubbard. It began in 1952 as a self-help philosophy, an outgrowth of his earlier self-help system, Dianetics, and later described itself as a new religion. It says it offers “an exact methodology” to help humans achieve awareness of their spiritual existence across many lifetimes and, simultaneously, to become more effective in the physical world. The name “Scientology” is also used to refer to the often controversial Church of Scientology, the largest organization promoting the practice of Scientology, which is itself part of a network of affiliated corporations that claim ownership and sole authority to disseminate Dianetics and Scientology.

Name: FiveMore
Comment: Scientology and Scientologist give me an unsavory feeling about them. One scientologist in particular,Tom Cruise's, behavior has bothered me from some time now, he's seems a little off in the head. It's your religion and your choice to follow what ever floats your boat because we all have the free will to choose. Issac is gone but definitely not forgotten.

Name: nightshift
Comment: Dawn, we don't need your manifesto, if we wanted info on this we'd google.

Name: BlkATLTop
Comment: JustTelling The Truth- I don't think the Scientologists are the ones making the noise- the article states the "critics of scientology" are the ones making the noise. Most likely they're Christians.

Name: DOne
Comment: It's not Scientolgist that's making this an issue, it's a bunch of holier than thou Christians. The service is being held at the church because no other facilty with enough seats was available on such short notice and the pastor offered the church because it seats 5000 plus. At the end of the day, it is just a building.

Name: FiveMore
Comment: Grace, You did not know that some black folk fall prey to different types of "cults"? Jim Jones' Jones Town was filled with black faces and some of them knew they were in trouble, but they waited until it was to late to leave!Sad!!If any red flags start popping up, it's time to hit the bricks/door with the quickness!

Name: Smokie1
Comment: OK, here is a question. Since he was a Scientologist why is there not a place for them to hold a funeral/memorial service? Then this not a fight against religions it is a harmony amongst themselves. You can't be mad that the church does not want certain things going on in their building even if you do rent it. Boots you are crazy.

Name: DOne
Comment: <Smokie, there is a separate, private funeral service been held. They needed some place that could hold thousands. Plus, if you were to read the original article, it's not the members of the church that is complaining, it's so call Christains who don't even attend the church complaining about what a particular church is doing.

Name: Teigh
Comment: Now if Isaac were alive would those at the church tell the scientologist to back off -- heck no! I say if you respect the man then respect the man. If you respect the man you don't have to agree with his beliefs but one should respect what he believed.

Name: Mas90
Comment: Boot and others... (Watch South Park episode about Sceintology) but Scientology claim our souls were cast off from another planet by a alien leader who was trying to kill the souls. The souls were deposited into volcanos here on earth. The volcanos were supposed to be covered to keep the souls from escaping but they did. The souls inhabited bodies and that's how humans were formed. UNDERSTAND THIS STORY is fiction. The writer of the book actually was killed by his following because so many people were infatuated with the story ( i.e. Star Trekies). The author was trying to stop them from fooling people but was killed. I've been to Scientology Celebrity building in Hollywood. It is real strange. While you're sitting in the lobby waiting to be seen the receptionist will come in the lobby and press the video for you to watch the video of Scientology on like 3 monitors. Young people go to school here. Really strange group, mostly white of course.

Name: Quanli
Comment: The people of at the Church where the service was held are mad because in their eyes these Scientologists are not even of the Book. Why did they not hold the services at a Scientologist facility is the real question? I honestly think they did not want to reveal their practices in regards to the dead. They have spent a lot of money cleaning up their image from what I understand.

Name: Mas90
Comment: Anyway getting back to the story... my comment... just like religious folk being hateful and stopping this minister from coming to see someone who was his fellow worshipper.

Name: travis
Comment: BOOT : LMFAO.. friend in my head . U are fu***** hilarious. Spaceship clearance

Name: Closet_Nerd_Girl
Comment: This is just plain tacky. Isaac's friends should be able to pay their respects without being harrassed. It's about ISAAC- do these "chuch folk" (yes, I said CHUCH) think that Isaac would want to them keep his friends away from his memorial service? Get a clue!

Name: B00TANEB00TUS
Comment: ...Yeah, Mas...Are you sure it wasn't Darth Vader that wacked him?...Volcanoes...Star Trek...So...I wasn't too far off with the beam me up Scotty, huh?...

Name: Mas90
Comment: BOOT... No sir you wasn't! LOL!

Name: BlkATLTop
Comment: Quanli- Weren't you taught that it's the people who make a church and not the building that makes it a church? As someone else pointed out, it's just a building at the end of the day.

Name: Mas90
Comment: The title of South Park episode is called "Trapped in The Closet". It features R Kelly, Tom Cruise and tells the story of Scienctology at the beginning. It's Season 9, episode 137. Understand this episode was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2006. MOre info go to link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trapped_in_the_Closet_(So uth_Park)

Name: Mas90
Comment: no spaces in link

Name: Quanli
Comment: BlkATLTop, don't get me wrong I believe that's true. I just don't see why the people he was affiliated with didn't see fit to hold the service. I can see where the people there were like "they didn't see fit to bury the man, yet they want to roll in here?". Some of the offense probably came from the fact that Scientology claims to be an "open religion" in which you can also be a Christian, a Jew, a Muslim AND a Scientologist. I think that is apart of why people find it so offensive. Believe what you want, but don't claim it "falls in line" with everybody because it does not.

Name: DOne
Comment: >Quanli, this is a tribute, not a funeral. His body willnot be there; the funeral services are private. The family needed a large venue. Like I said earlier the church in question holds over 5,000 since this is open to the public. Other than the mega churches, there are few churches of any religion that can sit that many, and other larger venues were not available.

Name: DOne
Comment: The church in question has also open it doors for non-religious events such as graduations.

Name: dede0320
Comment: Boot, do you think that is why the body is not there, has it been beamed up already? or when does the beaming supposedely happens? BTW I am a big fan of Issac's but this is so crazy. Scientology theories are so far out in left field, but anyway, lets pay tribute to the man,Darn Shaft!!!

Name: B00TANEB00TUS
Comment: LOL dede...Maybe they've beamed his "life-force" up and left the physical host behind...He coulda been beamed into another host body already...Watch...if you notice a dude who suddenly shaves his head and starts to wear chain link vests... gives long azzed monolouges before he starts singing....Then, hey...Could be Issac re-beamed...

Name: Angel
Comment: What I find amusing is how people find the origins of Scientology hilarious, but many believe that a virgin gave birth to God and there's a red dude with a pitch fork controlling evil deeds. Is either really more ridiculous than the other?

Name: B00TANEB00TUS
Comment: ...Whatchu talking 'bout Angel...You betta not be playing wid that mean old debil up in hear...He's gonna get you fo sure...And your name is Angel...

Name: Mas90
Comment: ANgel you better watch it.... these religious Christian females up here will punch you in your ovaries and cut off your head!

Name: Gurlfrand
Comment: LMAO at Boot - you are a straight up fool! Anyway, all of these other "alternative" belief systems should be very carefully thought of before you ascribe to them - and I do mean very, very carefully before you join it and live by those precepts....because once you leave this earth, it's too late, you can't go back and change your mind if you get my drift...............

Name: JustTellingTheTruth
Comment: @BlkATLtop--you got me. I don't usually post before 1 pm CST, so I was out here too early. You're right, it's the Christians clowning. People usually trip when they don't understand something i.e. certain religions or just don't want any parts of it.Perhaps they should've had a memorial service for the Scientology folks @ the Memphis center Isaac helped found. @DawnDD--thanks,the explanation, but that made Scientology sound like a Science Experiment.(LMAO) @Mas--last Summer me & my peeps were in Hollywood and we ran into the Scientology folks on Hollywood Blvd. They "invited" us to come in to checkout things and to get a "consultation". Hmmm... Truth was like HELL 2 DA NAW cause your consultation might include a bag being put over our heads, us being pushed into a white van and being driven out to the Dammn desert. Sorry, I wasn't trying to hear NUTHING they had to say or end up on the back of a milk carton!!!

Name: mandinka_99
Comment: BOOTANEBOOTUS re: "Watch...if you notice a dude who suddenly shaves his head and starts to wear chain link vests... gives long azzed monolouges before he starts singing...." ...especiially if that person was ahigh-voiced tenor and all of a sudden he's singing b%*$ as deep or deeper than Barry White!! And if you hear a wah-wah guitar from outta nowhere playing the intro to the "THEME FROM SHAFT" ... RUN!!

Name: JustTellingTheTruth
Comment: @MAS--you know folks don't have to resort to cyber violence. No need to cutout ovaries or cutoff heads. You know the power of the people. We dealt with the Da Candy Man a few weeks ago and she's been relatively "quiet" every since. ;-)

Name: DOne
Comment: BTW, this tribute is today, Hayes was buried yesterday.

Name: martha
Comment: it doesnt matter anymore issac gone only he &god no where he is so pray he gone be with god doesnt matter what kind service he has he not here: he soul gone

Name: khufu
Comment: :--) at the end of the day no matter what---if yo family is Christian, they gone funeralize yo Muslim azz in a church

Name: adifferentpath
Comment: The "No You Did Not Say That" comment: "ANgel you better watch it.... these religious Christian females up here will punch you in your ovaries and cut off your head!" ....tee hee, punch you in your (cyber-)ovaries...

Name: Angel
Comment: LMAO @ MAS & Bootus - My only point was that we should be tolerant of others beliefs because none of the stories about the origin of any religion makes logical sense--hence, the need for faith to be a part of any religion.

Name: JustTellingTheTruth
Comment: @Angel-- I think most folks are cool as long a 'ligion don't involve folks howling at the moon or Scotty beaming up folks into a UFO. LMAO...

Name: Angel
Comment: JustTellingTheTruth - So howling at the moon is not as acceptable as speaking in tongues?! Scotty beaming folks up in a UFO is more believable than folks going to a place in the sky hanging out on clouds?! Umm..ok Again, I think people should respect other folks beliefs, so long as it doesn't affect them personally or involve violating children.

Name: Mas90
Comment: ANgel & Thetruth... lol

Name: Angel
Comment: MAS - We should just be honest. If most religions didn't include emotional blackmail (i.e. if you don't believe you are going to burn in a fiery pit for all eternity), most folks would think they are all full of ish.

Name: zionna
Comment: Sciencetogly founder Herb called it a religion so he wouldn't have 2 pay taxes because he had tax prblems. And the mess. That the family left about it not being a religious service I believe that was wrong because he passed we don't know where he will end up and when he was here he shun Christianity.

Name: Grace12_34
Comment: FiveMore, I know all about cults and how black folks (and others) fall prety to them. What I find shocking is that THIS PARTICULAR INDIVIDUAL, Isaac Hayes, was a Scientologist.

Name: Grace12_34
Comment: "prety" = prey

Name: Grace12_34
Comment: I co-sign with Nightshift. We don't need the manifestos around here. I know I sure as h.ell don't. I have been courted by the Church of Scientology as I walked down Hollywood Boulevard when I lived in Los Angeles.

Name: DawnDuhDuh
Comment: Nightshift: Kiss my %*$. Someone questioned what the scientologist belief was and I just delievered the information. I don't need your %*$!ed up remarks...grow the %*$! up.

Name: kwrob
Comment: It's interesting some of y'all are talking about religion, and are cyberly cussing each other out in the process. All religions are manmade, and the concept is designed to divide God's people. That's apart of the reason why His people don't all get along.
