Comment: Disgruntled workers make for a bad meal. They're not getting paid because he's using one of those LARGE round #2 pencils that we had to learn to write with in kindergarten. Jermaine, banks don't accept transactions with erasures!!

Comment: NIGHTSHIFT>LOL! I know that's right. i saw those employees on TV and most of them could not show their faces because they signed an agreement to not to talk to reporters, but this YT chick that was one of the hostesses was able to talk to reporters. she told everything.

Comment: JGGIRL - Yes, some restaurants are still crowded, but obviously Cafe Dupri isn't one of them. There are several restaurants around Atlanta that have closed. Some of the Houston's and Ruby Tuesday, and all of the Mick's are gone. Last summer a friend and I pulled up to Ruby Tuesday on Pleasant Hill (in Duluth) and there was a sign on the door directed towards employees and patrons. It told the employees how to get their checks. How lowdown to close a place of business without giving the workers advanced notice. People aren't working for charity, they need their pay.

Comment: I agree that it is terribly non professional and definitely not business like to be shady with folks payroll checks. "Go to Suntrust bank, the funds won't be in there until after 12 Noon?" WTF is that? Folks come to work, they expect to get paid. JD has millions and millions of dollars. HOw in the Heyell do you not have enough money to cover payroll. It doesn't sound like a slow economy, it sounds like somebody just didn't know how to handle the business and it ended up folding. How dirty to notify everyone at the same time of the closure. The writing was on the wall before the day they put that note on the door. A meeting should have been called at the end of the previous day/nights shifts and all employees should have been told AND given good paychecks without having to worry about them bouncing or not being honored. JD and his Mama should be ashamed of themselves.

Comment: Sorry to be the EUR grouch, but restaurants are high stakes affairs and have among the highest failure rates of any business venture. This is not national news. Restaurants close every day. I can understand how these employees feel, but outside of the fact that this place is owned by Jermaine Dupri, this is a local Atlanta eatery that didn't survive the economic downturn. Simple and as complicated as that.

Comment: Black folks ain't looking for the healthiest eateries - we look for food with soul and vegetarian cuisine doesn't cut it! Put some fat back in those greens and some real cheese in that mac and cheese for heavens sakes! Try using some pork bacon and sausage the only thing turkey is good for is thanksviging . . . and pay those people the money they earned!

Comment: Exmun...Restaurants are an extremely risky business proposition -- true; however, if reports are true about the payroll situation, it doesn't appear that business was handled properly from the start. The demise of the business probably has more to do with the fact that it was mismanaged by incapable managers moreso than the decline in the economy. I'm all for celebrities helping their family members out and employing them in capacities in which they are qualified, but don't have them handling business affairs in which they have absolutely no knowledge -- JD's momma fits into this category.

Comment: All that $$$ he got that he CANNOT POSSIBLY spend in a lifetime and he can't pay 12 people minimum wage, even if it had to come out of his pockets. That's foul, yo! People have already worked, spent gas or Marta fare, and now they're out because JD's business failed. It's not their fault. Perhaps if he had promoted it in addition to all his other activities, it would still be open. Hmmmmm makes me wonder how is Justin's doing in the ATL.

I remember gourmet soul food at Mr. Leo's in NY, owned by the same owners of the Collibron (later THE SECOND FLOOR). The waiter sat me down, placed my napkin in my lap and brought me my cream of collard greens soup!! Holla!!! Truth be told, when I get really hungry, all I want is some good ole Soul Food.

Comment: bigchassie, like the Busy Bee cafe. Busy Bee even got neckbones as special <<lol>,but Aunt Hazel and Granma are in that kitchen throwing down and most days you can't even get in there. Can you say liver and onions??? When I initially heard the story, I was thinking that he just lent his name to the venture is all but had nothing to do with the day to day operations.
