Comment: Uh oh, DOG-PILE. This lady is out of her league. I hope O-B don't go Jesse on her. Though,nI'm getting a little tired of his "kill'em with kinddess approach. I guess he's just marking his time before he makes them look like fools.

Comment: Obama was just waiting to hear what the clowns at the Republican convention were going to say before making his move. He knows he can't treat Palin like a dude, people frown upon that. He has dispatched high profile female senators and governors (including his biggest weapon Hilary) to deal with Palin, while he and Biden continnue to focus on McCain and drawing in Independents. The media on the other hand are continuing to vet Sarah Palin for the McCain camp. Its all working out well..........

Comment: goodnplenty1957...good looking out on making this article available here yesterday....As MSNBC commented what was up with the Chuckie Cheese's ending of the Republican Convention?...Sarah Palin is somewhere brushing up on her "foreign policy" talking point's. Kind of like cramming for the Final's in High School....I kept listening for plans to put America back to work. All I heard were four more years of John Bush.

Comment: Palin's speech was very negative. Lots of smart comments. Obama must respond, I beleive he will. Obama is good a pointing out the ridiculous.

Comment: A large proportion of right wing voters on a conservative blog have vowed to switch over to Obama, they're saying Obama was so nice and understanding when he told folks to back off Palin's family and she repays him with insults (told ya Obama knew what he was doing), others are saying how can McCain start using the word 'CHANGE' when he admitted to voting with Bush 90% of the time. OOOOh its on now!

Comment: The first thing I said yesterday was that this woman had no business attacking that man's job and the work he did for people that her sidekicks didn't give a rat's %*$ about. Now I wanna see them stop this ball from rolling. They let the woman give a speech but won't let her talk to the media on her own. what are they afraid of? The "foot in mouth" disease struck a LOT of people in the RNC. all I could think about last night was "joy comes in the morning" because the RNC will be done. Hillary has commented and will be campaigning for obama in florida today where I am sure the community organizer but will be important. and us obama supporters showed up and showed out on the web. 10 million in one day?!?!?!? I can't even say anything. I have never seen anything like it. LOL

Name: javone77
Comment: msblake: you better believe it msblake. that's why I didn't even get with people saying he was too soft. he is trying to woo independents off the fence. you don't get out and get to acting wild if that is your goal. you do what you gotta do behind the scenes and then be gentle in public. Mccain's campaign has been hanging itself this whole time with no help from obama. when that pick was announced, Rak (quoting Boot) was probably dancing in the streets. he knew he had them then.

Comment: Thanks to Sarah "pitbull" Palin, Barack raised $10,000,000 dollars in one day after her speech (proud to say I was one of those contributers). Let them keep it up!

Comment: Everything will work out & Barak will tag their a/s/s/e/s in due time. Yesterday, someone slung "mud" in one of their posts about him being from Chicago, but he's not showing it. WTF? He's from the SouthSide, not the WestSide. So, there's no need to act like a ghetto hoodrat. JMO.LOL. I'm sure it won't be long before he shuts up McCaint & MonsterBytch. BTW, the "security" around Baraks house was quadrupled on the days Monster Bytch & McCaint spoke @ the RNC.

This is war, and you cannot afford to let them have their way with you. Vote, and canvas other potential voters. Get out the vote for Obama, or Nader, or Cynthia McKinney.

Comment: as i have been saying all along, its just a matter a time before that fraudulent little bag of bones is skewered and sent packing back to upper 49th. good riddence, you just helped to sink your partys hopes for slithering into 1600 pennsylvannia ave....as if u had any hopes of occupying that residence to begin with.

Comment: Javonne, yeah I noticed you didn't get with the Obama is too soft argument. Someone mentioned yesterday Obama is a leo (like myself), and he's like a lion, just walks quietly around and u think he doesn't know what he's doing then from nowhere he'll prounce on u. Obama knows whats up, I ain't even worried. Co-sign Justtelling, that is so true. Obama has seen that the angry black man, attacking the woman 'like a man' strategy backfires and is trying something different and its working.

Comment: soulmusic..told ya.. with this woman, SOMETHING IN THE MILK AINT WHITE. the GOP will do anything and say anything to get people to believe their lies against Obama. ...and as far as the "pitbull" joke??....well about 20 years ago when i was in the military, the pitbull joke went like this..whats the difference between a rabid pitbull and a woman with PMS....Lipstick...guess she didnt want to use that one.

Comment: You know the funny thing about this whole fiasco is the right wingetts are use to getting away with all of their incompetent actions. Why wouldn't the general public vote for McCain now that he has chosen an incompetent woman from the north pole with 20 kids who hunts and knows how to shoot a gun for VP. Thats all he needed to do to get Hilary's base. lol If thats the best he can do for his Vice he will be going to bikini bottom to search for the rest of his cabinet. lol

Comment: ^^^MsBlack Javonne: On Barack's demeanor. People seem to forget he showed his a.....ss at the DNC. He regurgitated (sp?) all of the slandered spewed at hims so eloquently. He shut up the nation. The pundits were like "There you have it folks" "He as almost indignant" But none of them said, D>amn we didn't see that coming. When Barack roared ENOUGH!!!!! I was like a lamb because it was like a calm father chastising a whining son *LOL* or a nagging wife LMAOOOOO. It was real business and they failed to realize calm people internalize their anger and process it because he is trying not to get saucy with it. LOL....Barack knows he is subjected to every negative stereotype coined for blacks and HIS team is careful not to let him fall into the snake pit. ***On Palin, her speech didn't impress me. She came to hard, too Karl Rovish, too defensive for no reason. She never formerly introduced herself to the nation and in fact here is video footage of her affiliation with the *********INDEPENDENCE PARTY IN ALASKA*****http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xmt0rLtgmK0 SO IF NOTHING SHE IS WILLING TO LIE BEFORE DAY ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comment: "Palin draws 37 million viewers, just shy of Obama" Sounds like how the election will be, very close but not close enough. I hope their elitist disregard for "Community Organizers" continues to grow and causes a huge backlash. This woman like most Republicans and politicians in general are robotic followers. They do not have an original thought but continue to tell their people how to think. How can Obama be an elitist because he wrote two books? I guess that makes me one as well! Meanwhile, McCain doesn't know the median income for middle class, the very people he said he will fight for! People stop being deceived!

He gets a little distracted at times due to his nature(love attention), but believe me he knows everything and everyone that comes in his circle..

Name: TGen
Comment: lol, I guess the fact that the lead story is about Palin and not about the nominee's [boring, couldn't watch-it-all] b.s. speech last night says it all! lol I agree it's sooo encouraging that supporters have shown up like they have after Palin's hate speech, 8 million, then 10 million in 2 days! Wowsers. But maybe some don't understand WHY people are giving that money. Um, RETALIATION. The money is for the cause of fighting back. What's the point of raising a lot of money and not putting it to use? Obama showed in Ohio and Texas primaries that you can have a huge bank account, but with weak ads and a weak combat plan, you um, still lose. I didn't read the story but Politico has a headline that says the Obama strategy on Palin is to "Sit and Wait." Other headlines are showing a new CBS poll that supposedly shows the convention bounce gone, and McCain tied up with Obama again. (Hmmm, wonder why, lol). Arianna Huffington agrees with many of you, that the Obama camp should ignore Palin. I am of a differnt mind because I've seen clearly what "sitting and waiting" does (reference CBS poll) over the horrific Bush years. I caught part of O'Reilly's interview with Obama and every question thus far is grounded in the azzumption that "People think you're weak Obama," it was pointed out repeatedly that he is trailing McCain in the "commander in chief" perception (whatever the hell that is, lol). So the "sit and wait" approach only reinforces this [probably erroneous] idea. Again, I wish yall were right, I wish the American people could be trusted to be mature and discerning voters, able to see through the b.s., but two elections of George Bush have just proven differently. So I sincerely hope I'm wrong, but at this point, I think the "sit and wait" approach is a big mistake.

Comment: The daily Gallup poll is the only poll that really means anything and it has Obama up 49% to 42% over McCain. And it looks like the Repugs are following Obama's lead AGAIN. They are now the "CHANGE" party?

Comment: Fuzzygoss, i noticed that, midway through Obama's speech I was like, hey wait a minute, he just answered his critics one by one and shut em down lol. Huey I'm guessing u really don't like this Palin woman. I don't wanna start something but some brothas have said she's eye candy, do u see her that way? *running way from board before the anti-interraltionship police come at me* lol

I have cut many fools down to size without raising my voice or calling them a little bit%& but then again I am a taurus and will fool around a mess somebody up. lol so it can be done. TGen: actually barack hit that 10 million before mccain did his speech last night so it was one day. and as for polls...I worry nauht cause those people are not polling the younger generation or the increasing number of people who are using cell phones as their primary number. I missed the interview...what time did it come on? anyway, like someone said yesterday...this is not a sprint...it's a marathon. and if he is so weak...mccain would have been killing him by now. Barack gonna come on strong at the end and shut the game down. JGGirl: yes Lawd I saw it. did all that to get a journalism degree lol mustang sally got problems

Name: MsBlake
Comment: That was anti-interacial relationship! Oh and Huey its funny u should say Palin comes accross as accusing others without evidence. Todays news says she did just that. She sent out a fundraising email saying The Obama-Biden Democrats have attacked her, her family and Mccain. When questioned to name a specific incident where Obama n' Biden attacker her, she backed down and said well um......it...wasn't them. Her spokesperson said it was actually the media and the blogs. Maybe she was referring to Eur, Palin's been reading Eur ya'll! lol

Comment: ""JaVonne TGen. Watch and Wait does not equate to being soft or passive. I read the article at www.politico.com and Barack is not criticized for watching and waiting. It's that cliche game of chess approach. What is the opponent going to do will dictate how he makes his move. It's mental. ***He watched Hillary crash and burn. As the article say she dug a hole so deep she had to concede to overcome her own self-defeat.*** I saw the O'Reilly interview and it wasn't so much as people are saying you're soft, **They want him to adopt that cowboy, gun slinging, shoot 'em stance, with no diplomacy. ***O'Reilly conceded, we do need some diplomacy*** As for the cowboy hats last night...Indian reservations nationwide I'm sure contracted bitter-itis because the hat symbolizes the rape of their culture and the theft of their land**** We have to see pass our anger and look at the broader picture. *****WHEN A DOCTOR SAYS LET'S WATCH AND WAIT, DO WE EVER CHALLEGE THAT LOGIC???????????????

Name: TGen
Comment: JGGirl, I agree, Gallup is the big one. I meant to check that one. So that's great news. But I think you are dismissing the idea of "perception." Notice I said headlines (on the most visited sites like Drudge) are running with that poll. Yes, there is an agenda, but don't dismiss how powerful the media is in promoting that agenda. If they talk about how "tight" the race is enough, guess what? It [mysteriously] gets tighter, lol. This is the same phenomenon that kept Hillary Clinton in the race too long, so long that even though she was in debt, she managed to damage Obama. Perception, not reality, is the name of this political game these days (unfortunately).

Name: fuzzygoss
Comment: TGen it has already been reported on the hush-hush that the race is not as tight as being reported. How did Hillary damage Barack? The undecided women, fickle independents, and the old foggie generational gap is what's going to decide this election. ***I smell fear and uncertainty in some of these posts*** It's about the long run. We have to look at the broader picture. The issues. If Barack takes his eye off the ball and let McPain (because he is hurt!!!!) resurrect that 9/11 fear-mongering with Googliani in tow, then we have a problem. Barack has to stay his change course because if McPain is really about 10% change he's promising, then another timed Bin Laden tape closer to the election should have no impact whatsoever. **It's all mental. It's all mental** Again, So far, Barack is winning on fundamentals. McPain is just mobilizing and so-called broke with his party. That's an issue. ***********HOW CAN HE BE FOR CHANGE AND HIS ALLIES ARE AGAINST IT?????*******************He allegedly broke with his party because Karl Rove pays close attention to the polls and the media and that was echoed throughout. He has to distance himself. But without a solid plan to fix the AILING ECONOMY. JOBLESS RATES ARE RELEASED TODAY....IT'S ABOUT WATCH AND WAIT......

Hello!!! *walks off still talking to self* I guess she gets no love! LOL

Name: TGen
Comment: Fuzzygoss: "How did Hillary damage Barack?" lol Is this a joke? Oh, let me count the ways. 1) Running with the "bitter" comments, STILL used against BO to this very day. 2) "Whites vote for me," creating a racial rift that had not previously been there or at least not as prevalant, 3)Running with the "not ready" line, basically creating McCain's center message for him, lol, 4) Running with that b.s. "3 am" nonsense, bringing back into the fore the erroneous azzumption that Dems are weak on national security, which again, laid the path for McCain to step right in, 5) Running with the "sexism" b.s., laying the path for McCain to appeal to women supposedy disaffected by Obama's "sexist" campaign. Need I go further? Or were you just joking? I hope you were just joking Fuzzygoss, I really do.

Comment: MsBlake, I'll bite. I would venture to say that Palin is most likely a racist or racist sympathizer (because she supported Buchanan's presidency) and she's probably more trailer-parkish than classy, BUT, I will give credit where it's due. I would be lying if I said I didn't find her story fascinating, I do. In her own way, she's an everywoman, and that's what a lot of women strive to be, and it's what a lot of men admire. Men like women who can be feminine and kind-of tomboyish at the same time, and she seems to have that down pact. Also, she's probably too power-hungry, but the fact that she is a woman who does have power and seems to wear it confidently is impressive, I must say. I will also concede that though she probably isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, she doesn't come across as a dummy and in fact she's quite articulate, at least she was that time a while back when I saw her on C-Span. So there you have it. If she wasn't a mean-sprited, power-hungry, selfish [in motherly terms], probably racist person, she'd be quite admirable! lol

I bet the word elitist will never be spoken in reference to her name. You can't see it when it's you but you don't hesitate to point it out if its someone else. I just know the puma (partyunitedmyas.s) that support sillary will be voting for Obama.

Name: huey
Comment: as for me, i am lost on the idea that people somehow find her story "fascinating". it seems to me that on contrary her story is not so much compelling or fascinating but a story of the american white status quo. you see it everyday on your jobs, both personally and professionally. she is a white woman, whom most white men seem to find attractive. she knows how to shoot a gun and shoot her mouth off probably at the same time. she has a minimal education at best. she went to pta meetings, became somewhat popular in a town the size of mayberry, people got behind her pushed her to mayoral position which is not impressive considering the size of the town. she was able to beat out an unpopular incumbant for a governership job. and the rest is white-wash history. why is that story so compelling? she was popular and subscribed to the white mainstream racist ideology and was tapped for a v.p. roll by a washington insider who needed a right wing white woman to shore up an withering defeated campaign. it could have happened to most any "white woman". it happens everyday on your jobs, an unqualified white woman is tapped for a management position because she is decent looking, drinks beer with the boys and surrounding empty headeded white women give he a high five and say go girl. fascinating? i-dont-think-so.

Name: goodnplenty1957

On a serious note though while i feel its exciting for some folks to see Palin become VP and possibly prez, they should also be very concerned about her lack of knowledege on issues affecting minorities. Its all nice and sweet living in a small town all your life but what about the rest of the world. As prez do u think she'll take issues like Darfur, rise of aids in the black community, killings in Philly seriously? she can't fully understand these things from watching only the discovery channel!! Lawd help us all!!

Comment: Once again Obama shows that he either doesn’t care or still doesn’t get it. CBS polls now have him tied once again with McCain at 42%. All he had to do was have a timely proper response to all the crap they said on Wednesday night. Sending emails to supporters?! Your supporters already got your back. You need to be worried about everybody else that will be influence by that stuff. Gallup poll still have him ahead, but those more accurate polls takes a longer time to be compiled. The CBS type quick polls have a larger margin of error, but they are usually not that far off. Expect the Gallup poll to follow a similar trend.

Next you have to do something effective with that information. Posting it to your website and sending emails to your supporters will have virtually now effect on the polls. The people who goes to his website are already his supporters. He needs to seek out the doubters by targeting them with ads. He can’t afford to wait and hope that MSM will voluntarily spread the word. BTW, the polls does matter. It is the only way, so far, that we were able to gauge the effect of the conventions. Comment: This shows more error by the Obama campaign. He should have, long ago, continued to push the role that community organizers play in america. That THEY reach the everday man. He's mentioned it on the trail but he should have hammered home about commun orgs. He didn't. That's why you had the repubs mocking it as if it were nothing. His next ad should be a 'rak of community organizers or people who have benefited from their work and pair that w/the insults/demonizing from the repubs. BTW, I saw the first installment of the 4 'Reilly interview. I'm glad that he is doing it and Bill seems to be doing a good job w/pushing him. This is a good thing. Especially if he handles himself on next week when dealing w/Wright and 'em. As long as he don't bullshyt around..he should be ok.

He even had some women (Sebellius/Schultz) speaking out against Palin. But, it wasn't really covered in the press. IT could've been because of the convention or just one of the many things that the media allows to fall through the cracks.

Comment: YLawdY: "It diminishes his position to skirmish with the #2 for the other team." Disagree, esp when the #2 is gunning for you with lies and ridicule in tow, especially when Rasmussen has a new poll showing Palin [supposedly] more popular than both Obama and McCain, lol. I'll reiterate, Palin is the ticket, not McCain. If they knock out Palin, it's a 2-for-1, they automatically knock out McCain on the judgement issue. Beating her is their ticket to victory. McCain is French Fries, they can handle him, but Palin, the new "star" is the loaded baked potato, she's the biggest challenge imo.

Comment: Musbdherbs: “…But, it wasn't really covered in the press.” ….And that’s the crux of the matter. He can’t afford to depend on the media to cover it. When Obama was in Europe drawing huge crowds, McCain was nervous enough to have an ad criticizing his every move the day after. That’s when McCain started closing the gap. Obama should have done the same with the Palin speech. It’s going to be more difficult to counter it later, now that they got a momentum going.

If she pus syfoots around..then we have another problem.

Comment: Creenj, what about the two people she fired when she became mayor because they didn't support her candidacy? Should they have been fired too? What about the librarian she fired for refusing to take books of the shelves that Palin didn't like (freedom of speech anyone?) Should she have been fired too? Hmmm

Comment: Crenee..after Nov. 4, Clinton can fall into obscurity for all I care. BUT, for her party, considering that SHE is a large part of the reason for the anti-Obama sentiment, she needs to campaign her a ss off despite how some of us may feel about her. We're not political operatives. We are voters w/opinions. I have no doubt that had Obama flamed racial tensions to the extent that she has and her support among blacks looked shady, pro-hillary folk would EXPECT Obama to do the same. The Clintons would try to Million March Obama's a ss all 'cross the country. AND HE SHOULD.

Name: YLawdY
Comment: TGen...I agree with you. I just don't feel Obama should be the one doing it. IMO he's far more better served exploiting the fact that Palin is more of a draw than the actual candidate. Obama should be relentless going after McCain and his most visible supporters should be relentlessly going after Palin.

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: Crenee..give me a break. Prior to choosing Biden, pro-Hillary people were all over themselves clamoring that Obama NEEDED Hillary to win over her supporters and to ultimately take the yt house. Now that she's not...these same people are saying that he needs no one but himself and should leave her out of it. In that case, he never needed her then. Another case of sour grapes if you ask me. She lost..get ovet it.

Name: CRENEEJ
Comment: TGEN, you're really splitting hairs on that. if the brother in law was being physically abusive to his wife or anyone else, he doesn't deserve that badge. now for the other people, i can't ride for that, but let's not lump everything together w/o looking at individual circumstances.... MUSB... i'm so far over it... but what i'm saying is that a lot of BO supporters wanted HRC to sit down and STFU, so why call her now and act as if she has to do this. she doesn't.... i said he needed her supporters, not necessarily her. so whatever happens, happens. he needs to be able to adress the criticism from wherever it comes from. you can't always send a delegate....

Comment: BIG DILEMMA: OPRAH BALKS AT HOSTING SARAH PALIN; STAFF DIVIDED Fri Sep 05 2008 08:55:46 ET Oprah Winfrey may have introduced Democrat Barack Obama to the women of America -- but the talkshow queen is not rushing to embrace the first woman on a Republican presidential ticket! Oprah's staff is sharply divided on the merits of booking Sarah Palin, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT. "Half of her staff really wants Sarah Palin on," an insider explains. "Oprah's website is getting tons of requests to put her on, but Oprah and a couple of her top people are adamantly against it because of Obama." One executive close to Winfrey is warning any Palin ban could ignite a dramatic backlash! It is not clear if Oprah has softened her position after watching Palin's historic convention speech. Last year, Winfrey blocked an appearance by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, timed to a promotional tour of his autobiography. Oprah and executive producer Sheri Salata, who has contributed thousands of dollars to Obama's campaign, refused requests for comment. Developing...

Comment: HARRISBURG, Pa. - Barack Obama's campaign plans to employ high-profile female supporters in an effort to blunt GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's potential to persuade women to vote Republican. ADVERTISEMENT Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano and Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius all were scheduled to campaign for Obama in the coming weeks. Republicans say they hope Palin, who made her national debut with a feisty speech on Wednesday, could put some female voters in play. "We respect her. She's a skilled politician, as she proved last night," Obama strategist David Axelrod told reporters aboard the campaign plane Thursday. "She's deft at going on the attack." But it's not clear exactly how Obama and his running mate Joe Biden should respond. They keenly remember how women rallied around one-time Democratic front runner Clinton when they perceived she was a victim of sexism. They don't want to appear with a weak response, either, and certainly they also don't want to send independent women flocking to the GOP.

Name: bigchassie
Comment: The solution, at least in the short term, will be have top-tier female supporters vouch for Obama to largely female audiences and keep the candidate himself away. Sebelius started on Thursday, linking Palin to the unpopular President Bush. "She mastered the words written by the Bush speechwriters and delivered them well. But what we didn't hear was what people talk to me about every day," Sebelius told reporters. Clinton, a one-time presidential front runner, was set to arrive Monday in Florida. Obama aides had long planned to have Clinton as a surrogate even before Palin was named. Clinton's camp says the message will be honed on her long-standing appeal to kitchen-table issues that helped her win 18 million votes, but not the nomination. There are no plans for Clinton to directly engage Palin, largely because the election is about the president, not vice president. Obama's senior advisers say they cannot allow Palin to paint herself as the come-from-nowhere insurgent — a role that once belonged to Obama. "For someone who makes the point that she's not from Washington, she looked very much like she'd fit in very well there when you see how she brings these attacks, they all felt very familiar to Americans who are used to this kind of thing from Washington," Axelrod said. Obama himself dodged the question about how to treat Palin, only the second woman nominated as a major party's vice presidential pick and the GOP's first. "I think she's got a compelling story, but I assume that she wants to be treated the same way that guys want to be treated, which means that their records are under scrutiny," Obama told reporters in York. "I've been through this for 19 months. She has been through it — what — four days so far?" It was slightly more polite than Axelrod: "She tried to attack Senator Obama by saying he had no significant legislative achievements. Maybe that's what she was told." The McCain campaign, keenly aware of the potential of their nontraditional pick, immediately used any criticism of Palin as a sign of sexism.

Comment: Crenee wrote: "but what i'm saying is that a lot of BO supporters wanted HRC to sit down and STFU, so why call her now and act as if she has to do this. she doesn't." Let me state again, after 11/4 she can fall into obscurity. But for her party, if she can be a bullhorn against what she helped to create..then for her party (damn my black a ss) and what she wants for her country, she should roll up her pants leg and get the ball moving. The same of which would be expected of Obama regardless of how her supporters may hate him. She has lost political capital. That's factual. I never said she didn't have any. BTW, you're right. She doesn't "have" to do anything but put on another pantsuit. I'll rephrase by saying that it would be politically advantageous for her if she does. Better?

Comment: Disagree, I think Oprah should do it. For her own sake and reputation. But not on Palin's terms, ie no "you can't ask me that" condition. Bring it on Oprah. PLEASE ask her why she chose to get on an 8 hour flight in labor with a special needs infant, and why she miraculously didn't look pregnant for her fifth child when most women look more and more pregnant the more pregnancies they have, and why she didn't tell anyone about the pregnancy or labor (on the flight) and why her daughter was taken out of school during those same months her mother was supposedly pregnant. Then ask her how much time she plans to spend with a special needs infant and four other kids. Then ask her how effective she thinks abstinence-only education is, and why she didn't practice it before getting knocked up and eloping herself, and why she thinks it didn't work for her daughter, lol. Hmmm somehow after typing all that, I think Palin might not even agree to an Oprah interview, lol. *Sigh* If only...

Obama showed in Ohio and Texas primaries that you can have a huge bank account, but with weak ads and a weak combat plan, you um, still lose." Words right out of my mouth. You guys need to look at what's happening here. It's great that 'Rak and the gang were able to raise a lot of money to fight the Rethugs. But the point is that if they would have taken an offensive position and defined this woman before she got up the talk, they might have changed her speech to be more defensive or reduced her effectiveness. Remember that for three days or so before she spoke she was kept in silence... no media contact, no public statements after being introduced on last Friday. But instead of going all out and defining who this woman was... or wasn't my boi went soft and allowed the buildup to her speech, when everyone thought she would come out sounding like a scared doe. Damn, even if you're not a professional political strategist, you would have known from a cursory look at her past interviews and she's actually pretty articulate. And she used to be a sports reporter. Even if her resume is thin to nonexistent on foreign policy issues (that most of you are betting on her to be) she's no dummy and truth be told she'll probably do just fine with a little bit of coaching. But you guys and my boi 'Rak underestimated her and 'Rak and 'em played the gentleman role and allowed her to come out unchallenged to set the agenda. And now 'Rak is in the same position as he was when Hillary attacked... playing damn DEFENSE. I don't need him to play defense. His acceptance speech gave a firm gameplan for an offensive Barack. I want THAT guy. I don't need him to be spending our money playing catchup to a no-name lady who no one knew about before last week. I need him to lead and take the fight to the Republicans. There's enough legitimate stuff to bury them on, but he won't be able to make his case if he's too busy being distracted by a crazed and brazen no-name governor with a screwed up family life. Comment: ST. PAUL, Minn. — As Sarah Palin transforms herself from obscure Alaska governor to the Republican Party's newest rising star and most effective attack dog, Barack Obama's campaign will largely sit back, watch her rise and hope she falls. The Obama campaign has no silver bullet to use against the Palin. Instead, Obama has decided to largely avoid directly engaging her and will instead keep his focus largely on John McCain and on linking the Republican ticket to President George W. Bush. The Obama campaign will leave Palin to navigate the same cycle of celebrity that Obama has weathered, and the same peril that her nascent image will be defined by questions and contradictions from her Alaska past. Thursday, Obama and his senior aides cast Palin as little more than a surrogate for McCain and her party, leaving the more direct engagement to a newly prominent group of female surrogates. Chief campaign strategist David Axelrod called Palin a "skilled politician" who "had an assignment, and she went out and she discharged it." "She is deft at going on the attack. For someone who makes the point that she is not from Washington, she looks like she would fit in very well there," Axelrod told reporters on the campaign plane in Pittsburgh. "These attacks all felt very familiar to Americans who are used to this kind of thing from Washington."

Copycat is the best form of flattery. They have been hit with the "YES WE CAN" bug - but in a twisted way. That's power and influence in action when your opponent starts to incorporate your themes into their campaign messages. Overall, the RNC convention was boring and more about mudslinging and attacks over substance. They didn't discuss relevant issues that are important to the masses and how they would implement their platform. To win this campaign, they are going to have to rely on psycho-social weaponry. Because other than that, it's a wrap. It's over. Welcome Barack Obama to the White House! Going to Expedia.com to book tickets for inauguration. See you there!

Comment: To those folks who think Obama is too soft, ever heard of the proverb "You can catch more flies with honey than vinegar"? For one, I am elated to see an acknowledgment of metaphysical principles by an aspiring Presidential candidate. The laws of the universe supercede any religion, superstitions or beliefs. They are in effect whether you believe in them or not. These laws can not be amended, ratified or destroyed. When you understand higher principles, you operate from intellect - not emotions. Obama operates with a heightened sense of spirituality or cosmology that I have never seen in any political candidate of the past - or present. Who would have thunk it? You can win using a positive campaign. Meta physicists, Quantum physicists, ancient sages, priests and shamans have always known universally that positive energy is 1,000 times more powerful than negative energy. Water actually puts out fire. The bar has been raised and it is a testament to the power of positivity that has awakened dormant masses of people who haven't or hadn't ever participated in an election for years. It is this same power that's going to immobilize the fear mongers, agent provocateurs, anti-social change agents, and other mind warfare tactics. And, it is our collective positive vibrational energy that's making history - RIGHT NOW!!! Obama 2008

That is his VP job, Biden too take of her. Palin is the new star on the scene and she is taking the spotlight from Obama, Biden and McCain. Over 37 million people tuned in to watch her speech and she wasnt on the 3 big networks like Obama during his speech and almost drawed as many viewers. McCain campaign is going to the battle ground states as we speak trying to get women voters because they are the key voting bloc in this election year. Now the Obama campaign is releasing Hillary to push back against the McCain campaign in their push to get the women voters. Even through Obama campaign said they planned to release Hillary the whole time. If Dems lose this year that have themselves to blame because Hillary and Obama would have been the Dream ticket for the party. It is like the media is moving from Obama because Biden didnt add any excitment to the ticket as compared to the McCain campaign. I dont know who said it but someone mention that the Dems play Checkers and the Reps play Chess. I say if Obama lose it has nothing to do with Hillary it is his campaign so he win or lose it is up to Obama!

Comment: Back to Alaska Howard Fineman reported tonight (and I heard something similar) that Sarah Palin will, after a brief stretch on the trail, head back to Anchorage and away from the national media. "They're basically taking Palin back to Alaska," said Fineman, citing a senior McCain campaign official. Fineman's source (and mine) said she'd spent much of the time between now and the middle of next week (when her son leaves for Iraq) straightening her affairs, tending to her official duties and packing her bags — having departed abruptly for the national stage. She also seems unlikely to do many major media interviews between now and then, and the campaign seems to feel no urgency about putting her on the Sunday shows. The campaign will "also use the plane time and time on the ground to begin the education of Sarah Palin," Fineman said. "They want to take that pause to train."

Comment: crenee - "if her brother in law was whoopin her sister's azz, he shoulda been fired." Since he is employed in law enforcement maybe there are some ethics policies that would require him to lose his job if he is CONVICTED or PROVEN to be abusive. Still, there is a proper and legal way to go about this. Palin was 100% wrong if she tried to use her authority as governor to interfere. I can't wait for the results of that CURRENT investigation to come out. Palin has admitted that her staff called the Chief of Public Safety at least six times. And the Chief has turned over emails to investigators, and says Palin's husband met with him about firing the brother-in-law (what the heck is he doing talking to the Chief?) Have you seen any facts that the brother-in-law was CONVICTED or PROVEN to be abusive? Besides, if the man is unemployed he can't pay child support or alimony, so it might be dumb to cut off your ex-husband's source of income.

Comment: Ginger..in a utopia yes. However, Obama's positive energy wasn't enough to combat the negative energy from the Clinton campaign considering the loss margins in the last states. Yes he won. But, IMO the universe responded and not in his favor. Hence, the position he's in now. Kats...thanks for proving my point. The only time Clinton would/should be an as.set to Obama is if she were on the ticket. Not choosing her means that she shouldn't be expected to campaign for the democratic candidate. Sounds like sour grapes to me. Shula..the only time eduation or lack thereof matters is when the candidate is black. Had Palin been headed the harvard law review/graduated from Columbia and Obama went to five schools and majored in communications..education would have mos def been important. BTW, uhm..the ne-yo essense article is yet another rumor.

Comment: shulamite, I agree. But again, I believe folks are underestimating this woman. I, for one, do not think that she'll show herself to be a terrible debater. She will probably make up in tenacity what she lacks in substance. And if Biden plays it like he's doing now, the difference will be little. Frankly, I don't see her making a fool of herself there. Perhaps in answering questions to the media, she will slip up a little. But anyone who is a governor of a state should have the chops for national politics. So I don't see why everyone thinks she's going to appear out of her league. I find her rather articulate. And when you combine her prior skills as a sportscaster in front of the camera, I actually think she'll come off very well. My gripe is that we're always responding to someelse's agenda rather than setting the conversation. I have a transcript of Barack's acceptance speech. He layed out a tremendous foundation for a direct and pointed strategy of attack. And, but for the announcement of Palin, the Right had nothing... nothing to criticize about Obama's acceptance speech. IMO, it was because it came at them and it was very specific. A message like that you've got to not only take it on the road with stump speeches, but you have to get the ad people juiced up to produce as.sertive ads like the speech. You also need to be creative and create forums to highlight some of his plans. You've got to lay this out to the American people. The strategists on our team seem to be tired and now they've left an opening to this woman Palin and put on defense mode.

Comment: This is going to be a 'values' election," Rep. Thomas M. Davis III, R-Va., said Thursday morning at a convention roundtable in Minneapolis. But if independent and swing voters are the key to the election, reaching those voters with appeals to values attractive to the conservative flanks of the Republican Party may be difficult, warned Terry Nelson, the political director of President Bush's 2004 re-election campaign who ran McCain's campaign until last summer. "It's a conundrum," Nelson said Thursday. "The key group of voters in this election is independent voters and some conservative Democrats." For those voters, the driving factors in voter decision making are likely to be energy, the economy or national security even if the outcome of the presidential election will determine how major conservative causes will fare over the next four years, said Kansas Republican Sen. Sam Brownback. Obama, and his running mate, Sen. Joseph R. Biden, Jr., focused on the economy during last week's Democratic convention and have positioned themselves as a ticket in touch with "middle-class" Americans. Obama said Thursday he was not surprised by the attacks, and blasted Republicans for offering no prescriptions to address economic problems. "You haven't heard a word about how we're going to deal with any aspect of the economy that is affecting you and your pocketbook day-to-day," Obama told reporters in York, Pennsylvania. "Haven't heard a word about it. I'm not exaggerating. Literally, two nights, they have not said a word about it." The charge that McCain is ignoring the economy is also worrying some in the GOP. Republican strategists say that after a week of speeches focused largely on reform and national security, McCain's biggest hurdle remains the economy. "I think it's the greatest challenge," former McCain adviser Mark McKinnon said, at a Thursday discussion looking ahead to the fall campaign, referring to economic and health care issues. Palin's speech on Wednesday appeared to indicate that the GOP ticket will also appeal to white blue-collar workers -- whom Obama continues to have trouble attracting -- on issues including abortion rights, the Iraq war and Obama's comment earlier this year that rural voters "cling to guns or religion" out of bitterness.

Comment: Republicans say Palin's selection will help win the backing of disaffected Democratic supporters of Hillary Rodham Clinton, though Democrats counter that her conservative positions on many issues will keep them in the Democratic column. Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., blamed Obama and other Democrats for launching a cultural war by attacking Palin and criticizing small-town Americans for their gun ownership and evangelical values. "We didn't start this. He started this by saying one thing in Scranton and another thing in San Francisco," McCarthy said. "He is the elitist." Social conservative leaders say Palin has motivated the evangelical base to work hard on McCain's behalf this fall -- something McCain could not take for granted before last week, given his uneasy long-term relationship with the party base. A huge turnout among conservatives was widely credited as a key element in Bush's 2004 re-election. Davis of Virginia noted that the general election is beginning to look like "almost a replay of 2004 in terms of cultural alignment." But Republicans are trailing the Democrats in party identification and registration. Democrats have registered record numbers of new voters. That probably means independent voters must be part of any winning equation for the GOP.

Comment: The Daily Show (TDS) did an excellent piece yesterday where Karl Rove was praising Palin ("she was mayor of Alaska's second largest city"), then flipped to a clip from earlier in the summer where he was belittling the resume of a potential Obama VP pick who, prior to becoming governor of VA, had only been mayor of Richmond, a "small town," according to Rove. TDS continued with flips from O'Reilly and Dick Morris. O'Reilly was preaching that the pregnancy of the 17-year-old was a family matter, but in Dec. '07, he choose the parents of pregnant teenager Jamie Lynne Spears as "Pin Heads of the Week" for not being better parents. And in the piece on Dick Morris, they showed him rebutting Palin's critics as sexist, but in the flip piece from months earlier, criticizing Hillary for making the same charge. TDS may be a parody show, but they do some incredibly powerful pieces sometimes that, for some reason, never make it onto the regular news channels.

Comment: Huey: “Reds ---u seem to be pretty good with the polls, well correct me if im wrong but if memory serves me correctly, didnt nearly every poll have hillary over bed-rock throughout much of the entire primary? ” …….That is correct, she was ahead in the polls for most of the campaign, but the primaries follow a different format from the general election. If the Democratic primaries were a winner take all format and there were no caucuses, she would have won the nomination. That’s a known fact. Obama did well in the caucuses, and even in large states which she won, it didn’t help her that much. Take Texas for example. Hillary barely beat him in the primary, and he beat her in the caucus, so they came out with almost the same number of delegates. If that was a winner takes all format, with no caucuses as in the general, Hillary would have cleaned up all the delegates. The same thing can be said about California.

Comment: I find it not surprising that you didn't deal w/what I clearly stated in all of my previous posts..the role of democrats in an election cycle INCLUDING the losing candidate. You never saw me write that people on both sides would not be upset had their choice candidate lost. What I did infer is that it is completely irrational for people to think that Hillary should not be expected to campaign hard for Obama. I clearly stated that I (and the feelings of other supporters on both sides) are irrelevant. What is relevant is what happens in all elections across party lines which IS..that they campaign for the nominee. We don't know that Obama will lose by choosing biden or McCain going after her voters. We don't know if Obama would have won had she been on the ticket. What we do know is that based on polling, the problems Obama is having are the same that he had in the primary...racial/gender. I would have included experience but that card is off the table w/the pick of Palin. Based on that, we can conclude that if he loses..(barring some other event) it will be for those reasons. A month from now..that could be different. As of right now, the polls suggest that the "problem" people have w/him were set in motion by his opponents (Clinton included) and has continued after her supporters threatened to switch sides and vote republican for the first time. Elements outside of his control.

If he tears her apart, he will be labeled sexist. If he doesn't then he loses. I don't know how to get around this. Any ideas? (And by the way, if Hillary was VP this wouldn't be an issue because McCain would never have gone with a woman as a running mate) Please Hillarites, let it go!!)

Comment: Mush, this election is nothing like the past because the Dems had a woman and black man running. Enery was all on the Dems side because not only only blacks and the young were very excited about Obama but a lot of woman was very excited about Clinton. So what has happen in the past has gotten put aside this election year. Many these women fair or not didnt like how Hillary was treated so the Dems have this problem. Party unity and an enernized Dems party was unstoppable and the Republicans knew it. Once Obama didnt chose Hillary and then PUMA the Dems was open for Republicans to move in. So people can say Hillary supporters should just let it rest wont because the selection of Palin just reinforces it! Like the woman I saw on news yesterday said she was voting for McCain because of Palin even through she voted for Hillary in the primaries. Again, smart move McCain.

Comment: musbdherbs.. agreed re issues of race and gender being the "wedge issues" in this election and on both being out of his control. If he loses the election based on that, then in my opinon he hasn't lost. America will have lost. But that doesn't mean that he can't TELL America NOW that if they vote on those issues that we will have lost as a nation to become something greater. This is my issue with Obama. If he's going to go down, then go down putting us on notice on WHY he went down.

Name: Exmun
Comment: You guys still keep harping on these debates. This race will be won and lost on the day-to-day, not on some debate a month from now. By then most of America will have already made up their minds, even if their guts haven't yet told their heads who they're voting for. Perception is the name of this game. And you can't sit and wait. You've got to take the fight to the opponent now to control the conversation and refocus on the economy before the warmongers start to control the conversation and make it about war. Palin is somewhat of a distraction, but she has to be dealt with. Personally, while I believe female surrogates can help, the VP candidate has to be able to either deal with her directly or start a war of words with the Opponent's Presidential nominee to balance things out. But instead, 'Rak and Joe have taken the whole gentleman's approach to dealing with Sidney. And all the while, perception of a strong, proactive Democratic party is being lost to sound bytes RESPONDING to Sarah Palin.

Comment: Katsy>I will somewhat disagree. Yes the dems had the excitement on our side. But the opposition to Obama started during the primary and continued AFTER Hillary lost. This was the whole angry yt women crew. But let's call a spade a spade. During the primary, they didn't want Obama because Hillary was the most qualified on the ticket. When that didn't work, then it was due to "his" sexism/racism. Then it was the democrats didn't believe in democracy because they abided by the rules established and agreed upon by all the candidates. At this point, it was still "all about Hillary." After she lost, here comes PUMA (PARTY UNITY MY A SS) stating that they weren't voting because of the aforementioned established rules of the party. Then both groups demanded that no other woman be placed on the ticket BUT their gal. Then it was "if u want us pay her debt." Then it was choose her. Then it was put her in a speaking role, then it was put her husband there. Then it was have a roll call vote. Obama did it all except choose her. You would think her rabid dogs would say "well he did 99% of what we asked him too..now let's support him." Well that isn't happening as it should. Not only are they still holding back, these same rabid dogs are now considering voting McCain because he put a woman on his ticket w/less experience on a national scale than Obama. BUT, her being a woman is now enough for them and what they previously held against Obama (experience) is now irrelevant. IMO, this comes down to race/gender. I agree w/shula and will take it further, if Obama loses because angry hillary supporters didn't hold up to their end of the bargain, then so be it. It won't be an Obama problem. It will be an "I always voted democrat until Barack Hussein Obama ran for president" anti-Obama problem.

Comment: I didnt have to see this poll I said this morning that Palin was popular than Obama and McCain: A week ago, most Americans had never heard of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Now, following a Vice Presidential acceptance speech viewed live by more than 40 million people, Palin is viewed favorably by 58% of American voters. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 37% hold an unfavorable view of the self-described hockey mom. ADVERTISEMENT The figures include 40% with a Very Favorable opinion of Palin and 18% with a Very Unfavorable view. Before her acceptance speech, Palin was viewed favorably by 52%. A week ago, 67% had never heard of her. The new data also shows significant increases in the number who say McCain made the right choice and the number who say Palin is ready to be President. Generally, John McCain's choice of Palin earns slightly better reviews than Barack Obama's choice of Joe Biden. Perhaps most stunning is the fact that Palin's favorable ratings are now a point higher than either man at the top of the Presidential tickets this year. As of Friday morning, Obama and McCain are each viewed favorably by 57% of voters. Biden is viewed favorably by 48%. There is a strong partisan gap when it comes to perceptions of Palin. Eighty-nine percent (89%) of Republicans give her favorable reviews along with 33% of Democrats and 59% of voters not affiliated with either major party. She earns positive reviews from 65% of men and 52% of women. The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll shows that Obama continues to lead McCain among women voters while McCain leads among men. The Friday morning update??????the first to include interviews conducted after Palin's speech--showed the beginning of a Republican convention bounce that may match Obama's bounce from last week.

Comment: We need to keep our eye on the prize and refocus our energies. Why? Because she is more popular than Obama now and the latest news is that MORE people tuned into see JMacs speech than Obama. What the h*ll is up with that? Obamas historic speech and more people tuned into see John. The more we call her white trash, and stupid and her children sluts and her husband gay we are truly doing a dis-service to Obama's campaign. Focus on what you need to do. We think we are on the right side of history and totally dismiss the other side as uneducated hick racist. That is wrong. There are just as many of them as us. We think we are right and they think they and their candidate is right. Its either going to be a blow out with Obama emerging victorieous, or a very close race- which always ends in the Republicans favor.

Comment: ooooh...*BREAKING NEWS* Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin attempted to quietly have her daughter Bristol get married before news of her pregnancy leaked out, the NATIONAL ENQUIRER is reporting exclusively in its new issue. Palin planned for the wedding to take place right after the Republican National Convention and then she was going to announce the pregnancy. But Bristol, 17, refused to go along with the plan and that sparked a mother-daughter showdown over the failed coverup. The ultra-conservative governor’s announcement about her daughter’s pregnancy came hours after The ENQUIRER informed her representatives and family members of Levi Johnston, the father of Bristol’s child, that we were aware of the pregnancy and were going to break the news. In a preemptive strike Palin released the news, creating political shockwaves. The ENQUIRER has also learned that Palin’s family is embroiled in a vicious war that is now exposing her darkest secrets, threatening to destroy her political career. Palin’s ongoing war with her ex brother-in-law Mike Wooten, a state trooper, has caused multiple sources to come forward with shocking allegations about the governor. Details of those allegations, the family feud, and Palin’s attempt to cover up her teen daughter’s pregnancy are in the new issue of The ENQUIRER. TAKE HER DOWN!

Comment: I guess I'm gonna have to stop watching the political news. I can't take much more of this Palin love. Found this on the Huffington Post. so true:.................................. If you get 18 million people to vote for you in a national presidential primary, you're a "phoney." Get 100,000+ people to vote you governor of the 47th most populous state in the Union, you're "well loved." SoyAA says: If you are biracial and born in a state not connected to the lower 48, America needs darn near 2 years and 3 major speeches to "get to know you." If you're white and from a state not connected to the lower 48, America needs 36 minutes and 38 seconds worth of an acceptance speech to know you're "one of us." If you give your wife a dap on stage, it's actually a "terrorist fist jab." If your daughter licks her palm so that she can slick down your youngest child's hair on national TV it's an "adorable moment." (Seriously, forget about abstinence only, teach these folks some grooming skills). DTD SAYS: If your pastor rails against inequality in the United States of America, you're an "extremist." If your pastor welcomes a sermon by a member of Jews for Jesus who preaches that the killing of Jews by terrorists is a lesson to Jews that they must convert to Christianity, you're a "fundamentalist." If you're a black man and you use a scholarship to get into college, then work your way up to being the president of the Harvard Law Review, you're "uppity." If you're a conservative and your parents pay your way to Hawaii Pacific University . . . you only have four more schools to attend over the next five years before you somehow manage to graduate (it might be five more schools over the next five years. No one has yet verified whether or not Palin was actually ever registered at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. But, you know how shady people are who ever attended any kind of school in Hawaii). SeanOcali says: If you're 18, white, and get a 16 year old girl pregnant "life happens." If you're 18, black, and impregnate a 16 year old girl, you're a "registered sex offender." If you spend 18 months building a campaign around the theme of "Change," it's just "empty rhetoric." If one week before your party's national convention you SUDDENLY make your candidacy about "Change," that's "red meat." And that's the way it is in America!

Comment: There are tons of these hypocreses on the Huffington Post under John Ridler's column. Another one>>>>>>>>>>> If you're white and grew up in Alaska, that's a "fascinating story." If you're Black and spent some of your childhood in Indonesia, you're "alien". - Four hundred anti-war protestors being arrested in St. Paul are a non-story. One woman with a McCain sign in Denver is a constituency. If you're a former POW running for office as a Republican against an opponent without military service, you're "the only man in the race who has actually fought for his country." If you're a war veteran running for office as a Democrat who has won the Medal of Honor (Kerry) or who has lost limbs (Duckworth, Cleland), you're a traitor. - If you eat an animal (moose) which most Americans haven't tried, that's "interesting narrative". If you eat a vegetable (arugula) which most Americans haven't tried, that's "elitism". If you're a Black Democrat whose spouse once made a remark that implied that he/she had not always been entirely proud of America, you both have "a lot of questions to answer." If you're a white Republican whose spouse belonged for several years to an organization that was trying to secede from America, that's not America's business. If you're white and you go to a church with a controversial pastor, you're religious. If you're African-American and go to a church with a controversial pastor, you're a threat to the world. When Palin taxes the rich (oil companies), then distributes a check of $1200 to the Alaskan population, she's "standing up to corporations", "looking out for the people". When Obama, or any Democrat so much as even talks about taxing corporations to even out the burden, he's "a socialist" , "a marxist", "a communist". Same action, different vocabulary! If you're a strong, intelligent, accomplished black woman who speaks honestly, you're an "Angry Black Woman". If you're a white woman "pitbull" who attacks her opponent with lies, you're a breath of fresh air that will re-vitalize the Republican Party.......And the best one of all..... If you raise 300 million dollars and build a 2 million donor base with new technology and beat the most feared political team in recent history, you havent acomplished much, but if you accept a phone call from someone you met once and accept, you are the new star of the republican party.
