The "foot in mouth" disease struck a LOT of people in the RNC. all I could think about last night was "joy comes in the morning" because the RNC will be done. Hillary has commented and will be campaigning for obama in florida today where I am sure the community organizer but will be important. and us obama supporters showed up and showed out on the web. 10 million in one day?!?!?!? Comment: lol, I guess the fact that the lead story is about Palin and not about the nominee's [boring, couldn't watch-it-all] b.s. speech last night says it all! lol I agree it's sooo encouraging that supporters have shown up like they have after Palin's hate speech, 8 million, then 10 million in 2 days! Wowsers. But maybe some don't understand WHY people are giving that money. Um, RETALIATION. The money is for the cause of fighting back. What's the point of raising a lot of money and not putting it to use? Obama showed in Ohio and Texas primaries that you can have a huge bank account, but with weak ads and a weak combat plan, you um, still lose. I didn't read the story but Politico has a headline that says the Obama strategy on Palin is to "Sit and Wait." Other headlines are showing a new CBS poll that supposedly shows the convention bounce gone, and McCain tied up with Obama again. (Hmmm, wonder why, lol). Arianna Huffington agrees with many of you, that the Obama camp should ignore Palin. I am of a differnt mind because I've seen clearly what "sitting and waiting" does (reference CBS poll) over the horrific Bush years. I caught part of O'Reilly's interview with Obama and every question thus far is grounded in the azzumption that "People think you're weak Obama," it was pointed out repeatedly that he is trailing McCain in the "commander in chief" perception (whatever the hell that is, lol). So the "sit and wait" approach only reinforces this [probably erroneous] idea. Again, I wish yall were right, I wish the American people could be trusted to be mature and discerning voters, able to see through the b.s., but two elections of George Bush have just proven differently. So I sincerely hope I'm wrong, but at this point, I think the "sit and wait" approach is a big mistake.

I would venture to say that Palin is most likely a racist or racist sympathizer (because she supported Buchanan's presidency) and she's probably more trailer-parkish than classy, BUT, I will give credit where it's due. I would be lying if I said I didn't find her story fascinating, I do. In her own way, she's an everywoman, and that's what a lot of women strive to be, and it's what a lot of men admire. Men like women who can be feminine and kind-of tomboyish at the same time, and she seems to have that down pact. Also, she's probably too power-hungry, but the fact that she is a woman who does have power and seems to wear it confidently is impressive, I must say. I will also concede that though she probably isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, she doesn't come across as a dummy and in fact she's quite articulate, at least she was that time a while back when I saw her on C-Span. So there you have it. If she wasn't a mean-sprited, power-hungry, selfish [in motherly terms], probably racist person, she'd be quite admirable! lol

Comment: as for me, i am lost on the idea that people somehow find her story "fascinating". it seems to me that on contrary her story is not so much compelling or fascinating but a story of the american white status quo. you see it everyday on your jobs, both personally and professionally. she is a white woman, whom most white men seem to find attractive. she knows how to shoot a gun and shoot her mouth off probably at the same time. she has a minimal education at best. she went to pta meetings, became somewhat popular in a town the size of mayberry, people got behind her pushed her to mayoral position which is not impressive considering the size of the town. she was able to beat out an unpopular incumbant for a governership job. and the rest is white-wash history. why is that story so compelling? she was popular and subscribed to the white mainstream racist ideology and was tapped for a v.p. roll by a washington insider who needed a right wing white woman to shore up an withering defeated campaign. it could have happened to most any "white woman".
it happens everyday on your jobs, an unqualified white woman is tapped for a management position because she is decent looking, drinks beer with the boys and surrounding empty headeded white women give he a high five and say go girl. fascinating? i-dont-think-so.

All he had to do was have a timely proper response to all the crap they said on Wednesday night. Sending emails to supporters?! Your supporters already got your back. You need to be worried about everybody else that will be influence by that stuff. Gallup poll still have him ahead, but those more accurate polls takes a longer time to be compiled. The CBS type quick polls have a larger margin of error, but they are usually not that far off. Expect the Gallup poll to follow a similar trend.

Obama himself dodged the question about how to treat Palin, only the second woman nominated as a major party's vice presidential pick and the GOP's first.
"I think she's got a compelling story, but I assume that she wants to be treated the same way that guys want to be treated, which means that their records are under scrutiny," Obama told reporters in York. "I've been through this for 19 months. She has been through it — what — four days so far?"
It was slightly more polite than Axelrod: "She tried to attack Senator Obama by saying he had no significant legislative achievements. Maybe that's what she was told."
The McCain campaign, keenly aware of the potential of their nontraditional pick, immediately used any criticism of Palin as a sign of sexism.

They don't want to appear with a weak response, either, and certainly they also don't want to send independent women flocking to the GOP.
The solution, at least in the short term, will be have top-tier female supporters vouch for Obama to largely female audiences and keep the candidate himself away.

For one, I am elated to see an acknowledgment of metaphysical principles by an aspiring Presidential candidate. The laws of the universe supercede any religion, superstitions or beliefs. Meta physicists, Quantum physicists, ancient sages, priests and shamans have always known universally that positive energy is 1,000 times more powerful than negative energy.

Even through Obama campaign said they planned to release Hillary the whole time. Huffpost is reporting that she went to 5 colleges in 6 years, majoring in "general studies" along the way until she finally decided on journalism. Howard Fineman reported tonight (and I heard something similar) that Sarah Palin will, after a brief stretch on the trail, head back to Anchorage and away from the national media.
"They're basically taking Palin back to Alaska," said Fineman, citing a senior McCain campaign official.
Fineman's source (and mine) said she'd spent much of the time between now and the middle of next week (when her son leaves for Iraq) straightening her affairs, tending to her official duties and packing her bags — having departed abruptly for the national stage. She also seems unlikely to do many major media interviews between now and then, and the campaign seems to feel no urgency about putting her on the Sunday shows.
The campaign will "also use the plane time and time on the ground to begin the education of Sarah Palin," Fineman said. "They want to take that pause to train."

She will probably make up in tenacity what she lacks in substance. And if Biden plays it like he's doing now, the difference will be little. Frankly, I don't see her making a fool of herself there. Perhaps in answering questions to the media, she will slip up a little. But anyone who is a governor of a state should have the chops for national politics. So I don't see why everyone thinks she's going to appear out of her league. I find her rather articulate. And when you combine her prior skills as a sportscaster in front of the camera, I actually think she'll come off very well. My gripe is that we're always responding to someelse's agenda rather than setting the conversation. I have a transcript of Barack's acceptance speech. He layed out a tremendous foundation for a direct and pointed strategy of attack. And, but for the announcement of Palin, the Right had nothing... nothing to criticize about Obama's acceptance speech. IMO, it was because it came at them and it was very specific. A message like that you've got to not only take it on the road with stump speeches, but you have to get the ad people juiced up to produce as.sertive ads like the speech. You also need to be creative and create forums to highlight some of his plans. You've got to lay this out to the American people. The strategists on our team seem to be tired and now they've left an opening to this woman Palin and put on defense mode.

Obama, and his running mate, Sen. Joseph R. Biden, Jr., focused on the economy during last week's Democratic convention and have positioned themselves as a ticket in touch with "middle-class" Americans.
Obama said Thursday he was not surprised by the attacks, and blasted Republicans for offering no prescriptions to address economic problems.
"You haven't heard a word about how we're going to deal with any aspect of the economy that is affecting you and your pocketbook day-to-day," Obama told reporters in York, Pennsylvania. "Haven't heard a word about it. I'm not exaggerating. Literally, two nights, they have not said a word about it."
The charge that McCain is ignoring the economy is also worrying some in the GOP. Republican strategists say that after a week of speeches focused largely on reform and national security, McCain's biggest hurdle remains the economy.
"I think it's the greatest challenge," former McCain adviser Mark McKinnon said, at a Thursday discussion looking ahead to the fall campaign, referring to economic and health care issues.
Palin's speech on Wednesday appeared to indicate that the GOP ticket will also appeal to white blue-collar workers -- whom Obama continues to have trouble attracting -- on issues including abortion rights, the Iraq war and Obama's comment earlier this year that rural voters "cling to guns or religion" out of bitterness.

Comment: The Daily Show (TDS) did an excellent piece yesterday where Karl Rove was praising Palin ("she was mayor of Alaska's second largest city"), then flipped to a clip from earlier in the summer where he was belittling the resume of a potential Obama VP pick who, prior to becoming governor of VA, had only been mayor of Richmond, a "small town," according to Rove. TDS continued with flips from O'Reilly and Dick Morris. O'Reilly was preaching that the pregnancy of the 17-year-old was a family matter, but in Dec. '07, he choose the parents of pregnant teenager Jamie Lynne Spears as "Pin Heads of the Week" for not being better parents. And in the piece on Dick Morris, they showed him rebutting Palin's critics as sexist, but in the flip piece from months earlier, criticizing Hillary for making the same charge. TDS may be a parody show, but they do some incredibly powerful pieces sometimes that, for some reason, never make it onto the regular news channels.

If the Democratic primaries were a winner take all format and there were no caucuses, she would have won the nomination. That’s a known fact. Obama did well in the caucuses, and even in large states which she won, it didn’t help her that much. Take Texas for example. Hillary barely beat him in the primary, and he beat her in the caucus, so they came out with almost the same number of delegates. If that was a winner takes all format, with no caucuses as in the general, Hillary would have cleaned up all the delegates. The same thing can be said about California.

Comment: I find it not surprising that you didn't deal w/what I clearly stated in all of my previous posts..the role of democrats in an election cycle INCLUDING the losing candidate. You never saw me write that people on both sides would not be upset had their choice candidate lost. What I did infer is that it is completely irrational for people to think that Hillary should not be expected to campaign hard for Obama. I clearly stated that I (and the feelings of other supporters on both sides) are irrelevant. What is relevant is what happens in all elections across party lines which IS..that they campaign for the nominee. We don't know that Obama will lose by choosing biden or McCain going after her voters. We don't know if Obama would have won had she been on the ticket. What we do know is that based on polling, the problems Obama is having are the same that he had in the primary...racial/gender. I would have included experience but that card is off the table w/the pick of Palin. Based on that, we can conclude that if he loses..(barring some other event) it will be for those reasons. A month from now..that could be different. As of right now, the polls suggest that the "problem" people have w/him were set in motion by his opponents (Clinton included) and has continued after her supporters threatened to switch sides and vote republican for the first time. Elements outside of his control.

A week ago, most Americans had never heard of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Now, following a Vice Presidential acceptance speech viewed live by more than 40 million people, Palin is viewed favorably by 58% of American voters. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 37% hold an unfavorable view of the self-described hockey mom.

The figures include 40% with a Very Favorable opinion of Palin and 18% with a Very Unfavorable view. Before her acceptance speech, Palin was viewed favorably by 52%. A week ago, 67% had never heard of her.
The new data also shows significant increases in the number who say McCain made the right choice and the number who say Palin is ready to be President. Generally, John McCain's choice of Palin earns slightly better reviews than Barack Obama's choice of Joe Biden.
Perhaps most stunning is the fact that Palin's favorable ratings are now a point higher than either man at the top of the Presidential tickets this year. As of Friday morning, Obama and McCain are each viewed favorably by 57% of voters. Biden is viewed favorably by 48%.
There is a strong partisan gap when it comes to perceptions of Palin. Eighty-nine percent (89%) of Republicans give her favorable reviews along with 33% of Democrats and 59% of voters not affiliated with either major party.
She earns positive reviews from 65% of men and 52% of women. The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll shows that Obama continues to lead McCain among women voters while McCain leads among men. The Friday morning update??????the first to include interviews conducted after Palin's speech--showed the beginning of a Republican convention bounce that may match Obama's bounce from last week.
