Comment: Get the hell outta here! I loved me some Norman Whittfield. Dude was on point with that music. He produced the errythang funky for the Tempts and changed the game for them after David Ruffin left. This is not a good year for us losing our greats. Rest In Peace, Norman. You truly did the damned thang.

Comment: Mr. Whitfield was on life support about a week or two ago. It was only a matter of time. He was only 65 years young which makes this very sad. It looks like our legends are departing us at alarming rate. So we need to give them all their roses while they are stil here. May Mr. Whitfield rest in peace. P.S. Mr. Whitfield's writing partner, Barret Strong is also in the hospital for almost a week now. Please keep him in your prayers.

Comment: Chassie,I knew that when you saw Norman had passed that you would reflect you are one of the "truest fans of the backndaday/oleskool music that I know. What's interesting is that there are so many great songs he wrote that while not as major as those listed here were also great, his writing, producing, and arrangement skills were so awesome, and the fact that people will still be singing these songs long after we're gone will be a testament to that.

Comment: Wow, what a loss. Last year I had the honor of meeting Mr. Whitfield when he was working with my ex-wife, a great singer, in the studio. He was ill but still creative and funny. A prolific giant, he will be missed. Thankfully his gifts will continue to be enjoyed for generations to come. God bless him and his family.

Comment: Mothership>>>>>How are you doing? I am still trippin over Norman. Brutha was a badddddd dude! (LOL!) He pretty much saved Motown after Holland-Dozier-Holland left. He produced Marvin Gaye's LP "That's The Way Love Is". According to other artists, Norman could be arrogant and cocky as hell. Marvin wanted to punch him out during recording sessions with him, but he got the best out of you. I'm telling you, "Cloud Nine" is my jam!!!! I knew my mother was home when that song was playing. I wonder did he finish paying his back-owed taxes?

Comment: My condolences go out to the Whitfield family. I had heard recently that he was sick. We've lost another very talented brother...songwriter and producer. He took the Temptations from love songs to songs about the world around at the time and sadly, these lyrics are still true. He took Motown to another level in the process. He took Motown to the next chapter in the 70s. The meeting of Rose Royce and Norman Whitfield was magic. Rest in Peace, Brother Whitfied. I know you're doing fine on Cloud Nine!!!

Comment: GHank, and you know it. I was one of his biggest fans. He also rocked with Dennis Edwards, wrote stuff tailor made for his voice. You should see me in here with my mic singin' and dancin' to "Cloud Nine." He created music where you could put your whole SOUL up in it. That's music, yo.

Comment: R.I.P. Norman Whitfield. He definitely helped update Motown's sound and helped them transition from the 60's into the 70's particularly the Temptations, when groups like Sly & the Family Stone came on the scene.
