Comment: Barack won on the economy. He and McCain were tied on Foreign Policy knowledge. In fact, Barack showed a deeper nuanced understanding of geopolitics than McCain, BUT McCain owned the "experience because I've actually been to these places over the past 50 years" image. Unfortunately, Americans don't appreciate careful thinking (Barack) but they do understand image. So, John McCain won Foreign Policy, but Barack showed that he knew enough to be credible and act in the best interest of the American people. On presentation, Barack won hands down. McCain looked ticked and half crazed the whole time ("when I look into Putin's eyes I see KGB" - WTH??). Now I see where Palin got her Putin comment from. Barack looked like a collegial professor. So overall... I give it to Barack.

Comment: Early voting and absentee ballot are two of the best strategies the Democrats have at their disposal to combat Republicans tactics to disenfranchise voters on Election Day. But this won’t be as effective if the Republicans have their way. “A battle over early voting in Ohio has brought a law passed by that state's Republican-controlled legislature three years ago to be challenged by the GOP before a federal court, while a separate lawsuit brought before the Republican-dominated Ohio Supreme Court is expected to be decided Monday. ….The one-stop voting Tuesday through Oct. 6 would be especially convenient for those Democratic-leaning voters who have traditionally had more trouble getting to the polls. ...On Wednesday, the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio filed a lawsuit asking a federal court in Cleveland to declare that newly-registered Ohio voters must be allowed to vote absentee….Meanwhile, on Friday the Ohio GOP filed a federal lawsuit to challenge the early voting period. Republicans say state law does not allow same-day registration and voting.” http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/09/28/politics/mai n4483617.shtml

Comment: Some really good pov's here thus far. I'm pretty much along the thinking of TokyoJoe and Shulamite (though I don't concede that McCain "owned" Barack on the foreign policy issue at all). I agree that BO had some missed opportunities, one that sticks out in my mind is when McCain tried that UNBELIEVABLE "he's just as stubborn as Bush and won't admit a mistake" thing, lol. That was a PERFECT time for BO to bring up McCain's temperament, which is now the big elephant in the room, and it would have been especially effective to tie it to Mac's erratic behavior coming into the debate. But those kind of things are done by people who fight from the gut not from the head like BO. So while on points it was a tie imo, the thing that tipped the scale towards BO was most absolutely the visuals (demeanor, respect, etc.) McCain's "he just doesn't understand" ish almost made me come through the screen, lol, was INFURIATING, although I knew it was payback for BO's "he just doesn't get it" during the DNC. Add the fact that JM didn't even look at the man, even when they shook hands at the beginning and end, and you have someone unable to hide his disdain. Not a good look at all. So a TKO (wish it was a KO but oh well) for BO. Now let's see if Biden can step up and make up for all his stupid gaffes on Thursday...

Comment: fanteeking --> Clinton is an enigma for sure. He is tepid about Obama personally and I think he truly feels that way. But, he may be filling a critical role in this way: "Yeah, I'm white, the kind of white that identifies with white, hardworking people, and I don't know Obama personally, and I'm not over the moon about him. BUT, with all my "comfort-level" reservations I have about Obama on a personal level, his policies are still the best hope we have for this country and I - your skeptical hardworking white compatriot - am still voting for him.". I think Clinton may have this (unintended?) effect, which is a net plus for Obama (and is sorely needed, since someone from the Democrats has to engage on the fence racists). Like someone mentioned, I wouldn't be surprised if now (esp. with all of Palin's gaffes) that we see a reverse Bradley effect. White folks avowing support for McCain with their friends and in the polls, pulling the lever for Obama instead.

Comment: Obama won me over with his economic plan and his demeanor. John McCain looked stiff, pompous, and cocky. And though he tried to tweak his answers to appeal to the masses, it still sounded like "same ol' same ol'" to me. Barrack had great counter points on both the economy and foreign policy and I have no doubt that he can lead this country and put some shine on how the U.S. is perceived abroad.

BHO did not talk hard enough on economic issues, spending too much time on that earmark amd corporate tax break territory that JMc likes to yak about . . . . . last week, when JMc postured about "suspending" his campaign and getting caught in his lie about his emergency return to Washington thanks largely to Letterman, JMc looked decidedly unpresidential . . . . . . now that the dust is settling on JMc's posturing, I wonder whether the posturing stunt including "postponing" the Friday debate was an attempt to cancel out the veep debate: the postponed prez debate would have been held this week with no room for re-scheduling the veep debate

Comment: HarrisThomas, I beg to differ on Michele's dress (not that it really matters for Obama's election). Generally, you don't wear prints to political functions or in a courtroom. She has a wonderful, curvaceous shape that she should show off but my suggestion is that she do so in a single color as she did at the "fist-bump" primary celebration in that purple dress). Solids are always safe.

Comment: Alright. I'll take the flame bait. It's early yet. :-) Flav-of-Flav has a style that is refreshingly his own. But he looks like he has no credibility. Obviously, Michelle can do what she wants in the name of individuality, but there's a reason public relations handlers dress people in certain "failsafe" ways. They are trained and paid VERY well to understand and pander to the American psyche. And the American psyche wants a first lady to look as ready for her role as the president does his. Cindy was on point. Michelle (this time) was not. Howard Dean's war rallying "whoop" in 2004 was a style of his own - but it cost him the primary.

Comment: Sexee --> that's a great point re "John" v. "Senator". Barack was as cool as a cucumber, but stung like a bee. Speaking of Palin, she got shut down by McCain in three different ways since that Couric interview: 1. He flew into Miss on the McCain plane, not the McCain/Palin plane 2. He had Rudy speak for him post debate, a role that is supposed to be the VP's role, and he and Rudy did a photop together while boarding the McCain plane on the return trip. 3. He completey backpedaled her Pakistani statement that agreed with Barack without even as much as saying that he respected her opinion. He can't take her off the ticket now (too late, since early voting has started) but he is definitely "putting her in her place". A sad day for women, but like a nut she fell for the "you're qualified" okey-dokey he sold her.

But, perhaps she got away with it becuase the dress was in style and the rest of the hostesses excpeting Walters roll up in anything (He11, next to Whoopie's jeans and tennis, anyone looks good). And, I reiterate, "The View" is NOT a formal Presidential function. It doesn't take an Einstein to figure that out. As far as relevance, it doens't matter to you or I b/c they already have our votes. It matters to people who aren't familiar with decent black folks. Comment: Shula, point taken. But I wasn't trying to "trip you up" (well maybe a little, lol). But my larger aim was just to provide balance because I think you were overly harsh in your criticsm. And you're right that "image matters," but given that she had what a 20-second spot on TV during that debate, it's not really something to be alarmed about. Now, I do agree with whoever said she needs to something about those problem eyebrows, lol, but anywho, back to more substantive issues...

Sexee, you are on point about the battle for control during the debate which was evidenced with JMc constantly telling BHO "you don't understand" . . . . . . great observation, BOOT, about whether JMc would have been considered the "winner" for the debate if JMc had looked grandfatherly instead of grouchy/nasty and you know what?, if JMc tries the grandfatherly approach, the generational political gap will kick in with people, young and old, wondering whether JMc has the stamina to hold the office: it did not help that JMc wanted to stop everything to work solely on the bailout as though a president in wartime can stop everything for one thing even if that one thing is economic meltdown

Comment: HarrisThomas, respectfully, when did this become about me and my need to disply (yet again on this board) some type of "black card"? One doesn't always need to follow a particular formula for everyday life (it's true that I have a preferred mold, as we all, do but I'm not wedded to it). But TGen made an important point. We saw Michelle for all of 20 seconds. We all noticed what she had on and formed an opinion (whether we liked it or not). And in cases like that, on a Presidential level, where those 20 seconds count volumes ("Blink" gives people 30 seconds), following the "formula" is a better bet than not becuase it catches the target audience in more numbers - and in this election the numbers are critical. If formula doesn't matter, why doesn't McCain lay off the makeup let us image his left side and show his radical melanoma resection in all its glory to the world? Because it displays his (imminent) mortality and reminds his base of an uncomfortable truth. If formula doesn't matter, why did Barack start wearing his flag pin and throw 4 flags behind him when he speaks? He needs to look an American and look like a leader. Why DID Cindy McCain wear red? Becuase her husband wore black/blue with a white shirt. The good old red, white a blue will never fail you.

There are standards followed w/everyone in politics in an effort to not look "too" much of nething. Usually it does vary according to the race/size of the person. Comment: The debate was another indictment of the media’s support for McCain and its willingness to give him a pass at every opportunity. The fact that it was moderated by PBS, a supposedly more objective journalistic voice, didn’t seem to matter. McCain was allowed to continue with the false surge success argument with no fear of even a challenge. Obama, on the other hand had to let him have his way, since if he spoke the truth about the surge he would be crucified in the media. This is really amazing since there is not a single study to support McCain’s claim, while all the evidence points to other factors in reducing the violence. Namely the Sadr cease fire, putting the Sunni insurgents on the US payroll, and ethnic cleansing. A UCLA study is the latest to support this, “UCLA study of satellite imagery casts doubt on surge's success in Baghdad” http://newsroom.ucla.edu/portal/ucla/ucla-study-of-sat ellite-imagery-62852.aspx Obama and the handful of surrogates he has in the media really need to keep up the pressure. The 527s, 501c3s and 4s now have to reaally get in the thick. Moveon.org is finally stepping up to the plate. They realesed an ad on the economy ‘McCain's Friends' Mess’ moveon.org.

For his part, Mr. Palin has worried about the frequent separation of his wife from her family, friends and Alaska staff, an adviser said. Accordingly, her family will be with her in Sedona during this week. Also, a key Alaska staffer joined the Palin operation Sunday.
Meanwhile, the more experienced advisers assigned to her by the McCain campaign are accustomed to working with seasoned candidates, not someone "completely green on the national stage," one strategist said. Several Republican backers have griped that the campaign has put the candidate in difficult situations, from sitting for high-profile television interviews to popping into meetings with foreign leaders, some of whom made sexist remarks, said several officials.

Comment: I LOVED Obama's use of "John" instead of McCain or Senator McCain, you can tell this really got on his nerves. When a man can't look at you, he does not want to be addressed on familiar terms. I also loved that job he took at Palin by saying "I am proud of my VP choice...". Funny I hear very little mention of that line, but I think people are looking for Obama to be "in your face" with everything, when subtlety is what gets you somewhere. The two seemed equally matched on foreign policy rhetoric, but Barack outdid him in strategy. His take on it was the most sensible. Economy, he knocked it out of the park. McCain's temper was on display and was not a good look. However, he did manage a somewhat more measured approach while speaking than did Obama at times. Michelle: I think she is trying to play to "soccer moms" at this point. I wasn't crazy about it, but I think there is a strategy to it. Her figure also helped her pull it off. Funny to hear black women talking about a booty looking too big/wide. I thought our figures were a good thing?

I was a bit disappointed in the fact that Obama said "McCain is right" umpteen thousand times! But, all & all, he did a good job. I wanted him to discuss the economy a little bit more, but hey, it was the 1st debate and he looked VERY presidential as usual, so I give him the grade of "B". I thought McCain was extremely condescending and he came off as 'preachy' as if he was preaching to his son or something. And I thought he was very disrespectful by not giving him ANY eye contact or acknowledgement. He acted as if Obama was 'beneath him' and I didn't appreciate his tone at all...I'm looking forward to the Palin/Biden debate this Thursday. Obama/Biden '08

Comment: McCain is a mean, unhappy old man. And he looked it on Friday night. He wanted to slap the s**t out of Barack Obama, that's why he wouldn't look at him. He didn't want to be there. His shady plan not to show up for the thing backfired and he was mad. And all of those references to Eisenhower and others back in his day were pathetic. So for those that like mean old men, who are mean because clearly they were traumatized when they got their azzes caught and taken prisoner, would see that debate as a tie. As far as I'm concerned, Barack was the only one that looked and acted presidential. Jim Lehrer's questions were stupid, he did a bad job during the 2000 race during those debates and he looks like trash. And as for Michelle Obama...yes, I want the woman that is going to be possibly this country's Black First Lady to look nice. And she doesn't. God help me I hate to say this, but she needs to talk to Condi Rice. I hate her guts, but she always looks immaculate. One more thing: Bill Clinton is nothing but a f***k***g liar. Tom Brokaw asked him yesterday to say something nice about Barack, like he had been doing about McCain and Palin, and he said, 'I just met him for the first time in Harlem'. Well...Billy Boy...there is a picture of you with Barack in Lousiana during the Hurricane Katrina aftermath, so yet another lie. He and his wife need to go take naps somewhere until after November 4th if they're not 'over it'.

Comment: LazySusan, I though Jim Lehrer did alright, except for the childish instigation trying to get them to admit the OBVIOUS, that they would have to alter their spending because of the economy. Duh! But what alarms me is the next one, I think Brokaw will be doing that one. That cracka cannot stand Obama and lubs him some McCain. Thus far, he has been unable to hide as much in his MTP interviews and during the primaries. I doubt he will be able to hide it in the debates. I hope the BO camp is gearing up for another ABC-like gotcha debate, Brokaw cannot be trusted. I hope someone in that camp is paying attention and prepares accordingly...

Comment: Friday night was not a debate, it was an opportunity for mccain to show the america's how he puts Obama in his place. When mccain sayed "you not understand" I (Obama) would have sayed yes you are right, I don't understand why a senator that's served the america people can't see the america people are and have lost there homes, jobs, and a way of life that other countries only dream of. I don't understand why you think giving corporate america more tax breaks and giving the middle class more financial hardship is the answer to solving the wall street mess. I wish Obama would stop letting this man walk on him and just kick his a$$. But, Obama thinks playing the nice guy roll will win over white america I guess.

Comment: Quanli worte: "Michelle: I think she is trying to play to "soccer moms" at this point. I wasn't crazy about it, but I think there is a strategy to it". Sure, no problem with this pitch, if off the cuff. Taking her daughters to ice cream. Or shopping in Jackson, MS. I just didn't like it for the debate. And the dress was quite expensive; most soccer moms couldn't afford it. The dress just didn't look "presidential" to me for a formal TV appearance, that's all. And the contrast was all the more stark next to Cindy, who did look very good that night.

Comment: my 2 cents: i thought it was pretty close, but obama narrowly eeked out a win in this debate.
he did miss some opportunities, particularly on iraq. he could have confroonted mccain with the iraqi govt's demand that u.s. troops withdraw. after all, mccain says the u.s. was seen as a liberator, but the iraqi gov't now says 'you ain't got to go home but..."
still, i LOVED the way obama always directly addressed mcain. it showed he was confident and backed up his position. mccain, on the other hand, never even looked at obama-let alone address him by name.

Comment: Okay, I have to speak for my girl Michelle. Y'all need to let it go. 1)She is being compared to Jackie O, as someone already said - one of THE fashion icons of them all. 2) The dress she wore on the view got so much play that the designer was inundated with requests for it - thousands wanted that dress. And, ohmygosh - it was a print dress. 3) The woman is tall and curvy and BEAUTIFUL with black features = beautiful brown skin, a shape anyone would envy and "black" features. 4) She has a hairstylist to die for that makes her hair shake in the breeze. Why are y'all trippin? And yes, it is SO superficial to focus so much on that when Obama is kickin azz and takin' names! Jeez!!!... as for SNL - I'm gonna be watchin the first 5 minutes every week because Tina Fey is da bomb!!! Every time I see the Katie Couric interview I just laugh and laugh. I can't wait til the debate on Thursday! As for McCain - every news channel was talking about his utter and total disrespect for Obama - over and over again they mentioned it and thought it was low and small. It is very true to say that people always reveal who they really are. Nobody has to do it for them. I'm thinking this - God forbid but McCain becomes president. Is he gonna show that level of disrespect to foreign leaders? Is he gonna talk at them and look through them and actually expect to improve our standing in the world? Unbelievable. That's all I have to say. Leave Michelle alone. To quote my favorite Project Runway designer Christian - the woman is FIERCE!!!

They chose the safe route by putting America's "favorite" boy, Guiliani, on the mic. Interesting information on her husband though, do you think they could be posturing her up for an exit? MUSH>That is a classic funny. You are so right, there is definitely a count down to the explosion of that anuerysm and God forbid he wins, dies and Palin becomes President!! HARRIS>I am also glad that Obama mentioned that his first term in office will primarily deal with cleaning up this mess; EVERYBODY needs to keep that in mind!! Though I am sure it will be used against him.
Michelle's attire: While I would like to see her dressed to the nines, I think that it is a good idea that she still looks a bit "average". I think that it bodes well for the relatability factor. There will be plenty of time after he is elected for her to pull out the First Lady "Fits".

How much more "to the nines"/fashion forward can you get than straight from the runway? Cindy McCain - she looks like an aging Barbie doll. Her hair is too long and stringy. Her features are hardening. And her suits are boring. Between the two, Michelle has won just about every "contest". I'm a Scorpio. We are loyal. When we like someone, we defend them to the end. I love the Obamas, hence the defense of my gurl!...now on to important topics, I am just hoping that Obama and Biden continue to stress that McCain's party is the one that caused this whole economic mess. And I have to also say that I am glad that every time I watched CNN and MSNBC, (and it was a lot because I was home sick on Thurs/Fri) I saw time and time again that they were totally dissin' McCain and his farce of "suspending" his campaign and his posturing. They had a few interviewed congressmen who flat out said that McCain didn't do a d*mned thing except sit there. His attempt to look presidential failed miserably AND though y'all don't realize it, Obama won the debate before he really won it just by forcing McCain to participate. He is the reason it kept going. Had he caved, he would've looked like a punk. Instead, McCain looked indecisive and ridiculous. I love Obama! Obama! Yes we can! Obama '08!

“McCain should break the mold and acknowledge, even emphasize the crisis.”….I think he already tried that when he called for Cox’s resignation….
“With respect to his campaign, McCain needs to liberate his running mate from the former Bush aides brought in to handle her” …Now that would be interesting, given her track record with interviews so far. Now the Rev. Wright part is interesting also, but I think it’s too late for that, because most people are convinced that Obama is for the middle class. He is one of them, owning only one car and one home. Now making the case of McCain for the middle class with his legion of cribs and whips….

She has been living her life off her "charm" and it wore real thin after her "spunky" lipstick on a b*tch comment. For Americans facing war/family and friends dying or getting injured, an economy just to the left of a depression, and an entire world that hates our American apple pie guts, charm ain't gonna cut it. McCain is an inch away from a heart attack, death from skin cancer or something else old people die of. That means she could become the president of this country and that should make everyone who is for the McCain/Palin ticket wake up in cold sweats every night. What is she going to say in her Presidential statements? "I don't know what's going on in ___(whatever country) but I'll find out for ya!" WTF???!! Or, is she gonna say, "We're gonna beat those bad guys! Iranians and Russians are bad guys! I know bad guys when I see them! They are bad guys!" WTF???!!! Comment: Boot: "WTF is Biden gon do?...." I've heard that he should overlook Palin and basically debate McCain. I tend to agree with this. I think something like this would do the trick: "I'm sure you're knowledgable of your state and obviously given your ties to a group promoting Alaska secession, you believe it's a superior state, and that's okay. But the fact remains you've yet to articulate a clear vision or know-how about foreign policy. The fact remains (if you've noticed, this is like Biden's favorite phrase, lol) we, Americans DON'T KNOW YOU. The fact remains John McCain DIDN'T KNOW YOU. The fact that he would put someone on his ticket whose views he has no idea about shows a very poor decision-maker." If Joe Gaffe takes that approach, hard-hitting, but not against Palin, against McCain, I think he'll be alright.

Because her father is Janet Reno."
McCain's two-liner conveys some interesting insights into what he considers humorous (lesbianism, a young woman's physical appearance), particularly since it was delivered to a Republican crowd. Remember, this is the party that champions pro-family values." http://www.salon.com/news/1998/06/25newsb.html See also McCain's "joke" about rape: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/15/sources-recal l-mccains-jo_n_112955.html McCain supposedly asked the crowd if they had heard "the one about the woman who is attacked on the street by a gorilla, beaten senseless, raped repeatedly and left to die?" The punch line: "When she finally regains consciousness and tries to speak, her doctor leans over to hear her sigh contently and to feebly ask, "Where is that marvelous ape?" Yep, this is the jerk Bill Clinton "admires." *Sigh*

This is the same Michelle that wears her hair back in a ponytail on the trail and she does look like she is going to the PTA...no to Costco. From what you hear, that's exactly who she is and I can get w/that. As long as she ain't up there in a pair of apple bottoms and hoop earrings and Obama in a pair of Rak&rupublics and nike boots..I'm gud...lol Yep, Condi be looking gud like shyt. *thinking bout her in them dominatrix boots and red coat* TGEN..now you know damn well that Biden can't say that to Palin..then he'll be dismissing her..lol This debate will be a must-see cuz I seriously can't imagine how she's gonna go at Obama. I mean damn..you gotta know what the positions are and support it. If it gets down to which candidate does a better job @ going after the top of the other ticket.. Biden wins. More than likely, Palin will continue to "reform/maverick" schtick and "less earmarks will save the country from terrorism, economic crisis, crime, abortion, gays, education, energy, nuclear proliferation" that McCain did in this one.

Comment: >shulamite - I don't see them doing that anymore than McCain was able to do a no-show at the debate last Friday. As we learned w/the pres. debate, these things are set up months if not a year in advanced. They're not going to make an instant change to something that's been carefully planned for months. Now if McCain had actually pulled Friday off, I'd have thought that but since he had to cave, she'll have to cave too. As others have said, I'll be in front of my TV with popcorn, Twizzlers and soda to watch this one because it's gonna be hilarious. Even if the facilitator is biased and even if she had cliff notes on her podium and even if she has an earpiece and they're feeding her answers, she's still dumb as a box of ice cubes. She'll mess it up and smile and pose and think she was clever and charming. And as others have said, I'll wait to see how Tina Fey dogs her out on SNL again this Saturday! There are no lifelines during a debate, Sarah honey. None at all. Silly rabbit. Tricks are for kids...

Comment: TGEN...and KNOWING that, Bill still compliments McCain as if they are best friends. At this point, Obama is rising in the polls seemingly w/out the Clinton's help. If this is the best they can do..then they should just continue to campaign half-azzedly and expect to be on er'bodys shyt list after the election. No surprises there. It's rather sad tho' how Bill's pride continues to get in the way.

I seriously doubt if they want her pregnant teenage daughter parading around on TV to remind the world of what a mess Palin chose to leave in her family b4 accepting the VP offer. I have no doubt that will backfire if that's where they're trying to steer things. Btw, Re Palin "playing dumb." I don't think she's playing dumb, but I also don't believe she IS dumb per se, I think she's just out of her league. Honestly, I'm surprised she's done so poorly, can't even b.s. (like Bill Maher said, lol) like normal politicians. But I'm surprised because I saw parts of her gubernatorial debate and though she wasn't like a genius, she def wasn't as clueless as she seems now. She was also interviewed on C-Span back in Feb and again she seemed a lot less dense than now. (Check C-Span's website if you want to see for yourself.) So the BO camp must not sleep, Biden is right to not take anything for granted. He's studied her tapes, he said, so hopefully he'll be prepared for the Governor Palin rather than the VP candidate Palin, two totally dif people imo.

It's bizarre that anyone, but esp someone in public office no matter how low on the totem pole, could be that uncurious about the outside world. Hell, most of us seem to have a better grasp of national and international issues than she does. It's weird that she apparently hasn't read or paid attention enough to even form an opinion because if she had, like I stated earlier, she would have been able to b.s. through those questions in those interviews. She's been in a box it seems (freezer box since it's Alaska, lol) and that's just plain weird.

Lindsey Graham, who usually flacks McCain with a psychopathic, operatic zeal, got to a point Sunday morning on Fox News where he just sort of ... gave up. When it came time to respond to public support of Senator Barack Obama after the debate at Ole Miss, Graham at first attempted to pull out some good news from the polling data. Comment: Palin takes on Biden directly as debate looms
Posted: 02:00 PM ET
From CNN Political Producer Peter Hamby
COLUMBUS, Ohio (CNN) — Before hunkering down at John McCain's Arizona ranch for three days of debate boot camp, Sarah Palin used a Monday rally in Ohio to throw a few jabs at her Democratic counterpart, Sen. Joseph Biden.
She started by taking a swipe at Biden's age and 36-year tenure in the United States Senate.
"I do look forward to Thursday night and debating Senator Joe Biden," Palin said while introducing John McCain at a rally here. "We are going to talk about those new ideas, new energy for America. I'm looking forward to meet him too. I've never met him before. But I've been hearing about his Senate speeches since I was in like second grade."
Palin, 44, would have been eight years old when Biden was first elected to the Senate in 1972 at the age of 29. John McCain was 36.
Palin was 18 when McCain was first elected to Congress in 1982 at the age of 46. If elected, McCain, 72, would become the oldest president in United States history.
The Alaska governor has generally shied away from attacking Biden directly while on the trail, although she did use the "second grade" remark in an interview with Fox News two weeks ago. But Monday marked the first time she has openly engaged Biden in her stump speech.
She also challenged her vice presidential opponent on policy grounds. Speaking in a state that's among the nation's leaders in coal output, consumption and reserves, Palin tried to capitalize on Biden's recent criticism of coal production as environmentally hazardous.
"We're not supporting clean coal," Biden said last week in Maumee, Ohio. "No coal plants here in America. Build 'em, if they're gonna build 'em, over there and make 'em clean because they're killing ya."
Palin promised that a McCain administration will utilize clean coal technologies that seek to mitigate the environmental impact of coal production and use.
"Just recently, Sen. Biden made it perfectly clear that in an Obama-Biden administration, there would no use of clean coal at all," she said, drawing boos from the audience. "From Wyoming to West Virginia and especially right here in Ohio, American coal resources are greater than the oil riches of the Middle East.
"And yet Joe Biden says, 'Sorry Ohio, we're not going to use it.' As for Sen. McCain and I, we will make clean coal a reality, and to help power the American economy with clean coal technology, we're going to look to the hard working people of Ohio to help us do that."

But that’s also the policy with respect to running for presidency. You have to release your medical records. They also talked about the fact that he would be incapacitated in case of treatment for a reoccurrence of melanoma. But I found the Oreilly piece on it interesting, complaining about the PACs now that the shoe is on the other foot. Comment: the repug constituency needs to think with their pockets about how the repugs have taken of business for them, or not, and stop voting straight party lines because of so-called wedge issues on moral values [same sex marriage and abortion] . . . . . . Pelosi is right about how we got to this mess but she did not have to do that speech today . . . . . . Pelosi needed to think about the repug delicate sensibilities about their responsibility to clean up this financial mess that they created while they were in the majority, rubber stamping the president . . . . . the repugs and like-minded dems who did not like this bill needed to let go of their egos and think about their constituents as well as the global markets that reacted to how congress voted even before the vote was completed . . . . . . people on main street and wall street are feeling universal financial pain and horror because politicians are making brownie points for re-election

Paulson was once a Bigshot at Goldman and Sac's, now you want American's to trust your Plan....This Plan was forced down our throat and proves that Washington is broken...George Bush has got too go! Too much Money was being shifted to the uber-Rich.

Comment: Here is a transcript of the audio tape obtained by the National Enquirer of Dog the Bounty Hunter ordering his son Tucker to break up with his girlfriend who is black. Dog, who has 13 children total by 4 wives and other assorted baby mamas, doesn't feature Tucker in his popular show. Tucker was recently released from prison where he was serving 20 years on drug charges.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Duane "Dog" Chapman: I don't care if she's a Mexican, a whore or whatever. It's not because she's black, it's because we use the word ni**er sometimes here. I'm not gonna take a chance ever in life of losing everything I've worked for for 30 years because some %*$!(@! ni**er heard us say ni**er and turned us in to the Enquirer magazine. Our career is over! I'm not taking that chance at all! Never in life! Never! Never! If Lyssa [Dog's daughter] was dating a ni**er, we would all say '%*$! you!' And you know that. If Lyssa brought a black guy home ya da da... it's not that they're black, it's none of that. It's that we use the word ni**er. We don't mean you %*$!(@! scum ni**er without a soul. We don't mean that %*$!. But America would think we mean that. And we're not taking a chance on losing everything we got over a racial slur because our son goes with a girl like that. I can't do that Tucker. You can't expect Gary, Bonnie, Cecily, all them young kids to [garbled] because 'I'm in love for 7 months' - %*$! that! So, I'll help you get another job but you can not work here unless you break up with her and she's out of your life. I can't handle that %*$!. I got 'em in the parking lot trying to record us. I got that girl saying she's gonna wear a recorder...
Comment: HT..what's worse is that it is obvious that there is no such thing as bi-partisanship. Because of the politics the public was once again misinformed about the actual plan which was a loan that of which would have been recouped in part of full after the stuff had been bought back. After members from both sides crafted a plan..the republicans...in large..said thanks but no thanks. This is really amazing and less so if you consider how absolutely political the whole debate got..STARTING w/Mccain's suspension/nonsuspension/debate threat. His people were saying all along how McCain was instrumental in moving the process alone...as late as this morning. Now look at it. His campaign continues to shoot themselves in the a ss!
Comment: >musb- first let me be completely be superficial and talk about ole girl Condi. I liked the dominatrix look, too. I actually have an outfit like that. Years ago, I wore it once when I was teaching and a student told me I looked like a dominatrix, well, he tried to but couldn't say the word. I didn't help him, either. That was one vocabulary word I wasn't going to teach him that day. It was bad enough w/the idea of him imagining me with a whip saying, You've been a bad boy!" so I let it go. BUT my complaint w/Condi is that her hair is always jacked up. She needs to go to Michelle's hair stylist. I've heard Michelle doesn't even have a perm but her hair swings like she's Asian. Condi and that hair helmet gots to go! Next thing - I look at all of this mess as things falling into place to assure Obama the presidency. There are so many absurd thing going on that it has to be God working. McCain and his campaign suspension. WTF? Palin chosen as the VP? WTF? The stock market meltdown? WTF? It's like even the most biggoted redneck of the rednecks almost has no choice but to bite the bullet and vote for Obama. And I'm loving it. I can tell you this. I have never been interested in going downtown to be a part of that madhouse crowd during the inauguration in cold-azzed January, but WHEN Obama wins, I'm taking off that day and I'll be there! I'll be the one in the fly-azzed leopard print trench coat I'm making right now. That'll be me!
Micheal Baisden got this yt lady named Liz on the phone. she is from Ohio and she and her husband are voting for Obama and micheal asked her questions like "LIZ, LET ME HAVE THE TELEPHONE NUMBERS OF YOUR YT FRIENDS WHO ARE FOR MCSLIME" and he asked her why are they voting for mccain, of course she stated the typical silly narrow minded reasons: he's black, they think he's muslin and the yadda yadda. so he got liz on hold wanting folks to ask her questions on what they gonna do with this bail out.
Comment: We got a small but critical victory in Ohio today. Thank God for small gifts. OHIO UPHOLDS EARLY VOTING From NBC's Domenico Montanaro... Lost in the big news of the bailout failure and the subsequent plunging Dow, is a court decision in Ohio which could have big implications for the presidential race.
Republican-backed lawsuits went to the Ohio Supreme Court, and the court, by a 4-3 vote, "upheld a weeklong period in which new voters can register and cast an absentee ballot on the same day in Ohio. Another federal court decision was expected later in the day over the early voting window...." (The Ohio Supreme Court has six Republicans and one Democrat.)Previously, voters had to be "registered for at least 30 days before receiving an absentee ballot." This is the first presidential election in Ohio in which voters can vote absentee and early without excuse. Election officials have pushed the effort as a way to eliminate long lines and voting complications of years past. In 2004, Democrats alleged voter disenfranchisement in areas with large African-American populations, as voters waited hours and hours to vote.
Comment: dcdouglass01 - I tend to agree. I didn't cause all that mess and I resent having to pay for other people's mistakes with my tax dollars. I'm not rolling in dough but I've been responsible with the little I have. I resent it that I am going to have to eat the cost of people who knew they couldn't buy the big-azzed McMansion they got into w/an ARM or an interest-ony loan they knew they couldn't pay once it adjusted. It truly ticks me off. I feel for people being foreclosed on but at the same time, I want to pop them upside the head for not doing their homework and for being greedy. They knew d*mned well they couldn't afford the sq. footage they got. Why am I going to have to pay for their mistake when I bought w/in my price range?
