Comment: The fact that the media is still dwelling on this gives me pause... I'm so saddened

Name: MOTHERSHIP
Comment: Night, Johnson was wrongfully charged. They should right that wrong. Even back then, Johnson defied convention and never broke.

Name: MelodyCool
Comment: Jack Johnson is another OJ and NEVER gave a dayum about black folks so I don't understand you two giving two shyts about his legacy or treatment. All he did was backroll whorehouses and skin and grin like the lowlife he was.

Name: MOTHERSHIP
Comment: Melody, regardless of what he was and he wasn't just another O.J. He was wrongfully charged.

Name: McNasty
Comment: . . . and this is important because?! The laws were the sign of the times and he decided cause he had two nickles to rub together he would throw becky in errybody's face. He suffered the consequences and the history books tell the story. How it would be something anyone would be thinking about past this humongous buy out is beyond me!!

Name: Janissi
Comment: McNasty>>>I cosign 100%! I'm like, "What the???"

Name: MelodyCool
Comment: I agree McNasty, plus it should be ww championing his cause. Back in the day, Johnson did NOTHING to stand with blacks during those turbulent times.

Comment: yada, yada, yada. Just clear his name and get back to voting on an economic package. This man and the women he was sleeping with are all gone now. It ain't like he was punished for civil rights. He was punished for wanting to screw yt women. This country is not at the time or place to be focusing on this BS.

Name: tinkius
Comment: The man had balls! Dating white girls in that era. And just think lots of black women thought brothas were dating white women as a fad, unlike today's "independent, negative" black women who are now trying to date white men.

Name: Taurusingr
Comment: Ahh, PARDON ME!, but ain't this shyt TOO G D late!??? And "it's another damn trip" how, YT has to "think about" doing WTF they KNOW DAMN WELL they should do! Kinda think of it, "that's" a LOT like this election huh!?? One!

Name: oshun
Comment: but wait a minute: did he or did he NOT engage some of these white women in prostitution? i heard he did. if that's so, then is shoulda been found guilty!

Name: TMan
Comment: Interesting. 100 years later the period that biographers put a "period" on his lifestory, they now must erase and put a "comma" and tell the rest of this story with this news. Deep!

Name: MelodyCool
Comment: oshun, the women were hos but he bankrolled their establishments and paid bail when these places were raided. I doubt if he benefited from the profits thought...just being in close proximity and having the funds to serve ww was enough for him.

Name: Maqueen
Comment: >tink< sounds like a double standard. Some Sistas aren't TRYING to date white men..they ARE dating white men. In many cases, that white man initiated and pursued that Sista, not vice-versa. Just because a Sista will date a white man doesn't mean that she's "independent-negative"...that's crazy! White men have always had a longing for Sistas, and I think that now more Sistas are open to "Bob" then before. Nothin' wrong with that!

Name: McNasty
Comment: Maqueen tinkus has issues far beyond any one explanation. Some sistah walked off with his little bitty heart and he can't find her so we are all whatever he wants us to be!

Name: McNasty
Comment: I saw a black and white period piece that basically told the story. JJ looked like a pimp in a hat and overcoat and the white woman he had draped on his arm was swaddled in a full length fur. Yeah, I agree - let yt women champion his cause because he sure wasn't checkin' for women that looked like me, in fact, did he ever go back to the neighborhood?! - I think not!

Name: oshun
Comment: >>"the women were hos but he bankrolled their establishments and paid bail when these places were raided. .." sounds like pimpin' to me. his azz was guilty. serves him right. o.j. is definitely the modern-day jack johnson. we don't have to rally around EVERY black criminal just because he shares the same skin color. OJ was guilty of domestic violence. jack was guilty of engaging in prostitution. 'tookie' was guilty of terrorizing black commmunities. i wasn't holdin no vigil for none-a them mofo's!

Name: maxx2win
Comment: -- The simple truth is that Jack Johnson forgot he was black (instead he focused on being a Boxer/Athlete) and thought his "shyyyt didn't stink"--in an era when many truly innocent blackboys and blackmen were being detained for only the "hint" or "preception of impropriety" re: white women. Good Ole Boys -- ain't changing their MOA, no matter the who the fella' is. Get Lynched by a Rope or Get Lynched by Justice... It's all about balancing the choices and the consequences.

Name: MelodyCool
Comment: McNasty, I saw that 2 part PBS special "Unforgivable Blackness" and got the full scope of JJ. Blacks were embarrassed by his buffoonish character during that time. He wouldn't align himself in anyway with the movement...all he longed for was close proximity to hos and plenty of bm are like him to this day. In fact, he's the poster boy and icon to many bm who worship at the altar of ww and want the world to know it.

Name: MelodyCool
Comment: oshun, he wasn't pimpin them in the traditional sense...collecting their hard earned cash. He supported them just for the privilege of being allowed in their nasty company.
