But I find it pretty sad that she does not approve of marriage and I know folk might say marriage is old foggy but three different dads makes you look like a baby receptacle. Did she purposely set out to have relations with three famous guys and have a baby with each of these men? Comment: Yeah Janissi, I was thinking the same thing. Wasn't this already public knowledge? lol Anywho Fivemore, I didn't read that she "doesn't approve of marriage." Did I miss that somewhere? I'm inclined to think she, like most women, would love to be married. Now why she's not married, who knows? Re: her multiple babies by as many baby-daddies, I think it's very disappointing. I would be lying to say I have not lost respect for her, indeed I have, especially because she's been one of my favorite, if not my favorite, music artist over the past few years. But as long as she puts out good music, I'll support, trying to look past her personal life decisions, hoping TO GOD she doesn't become another "Lauryn Hill," someone unable to overcome the consequences of poor personal decisions to still deliver a quality product. We'll see. *Sigh*

Comment: Please stop hating on my girl. I loves me some Erykah. While I know that this may not be a good moral image in most people's opinion, I think we should just mind our own business on this one. She's not hurting anyone and her children are well taken care of both financially and spiritually. Everyone isn't lucky enough to find and marry that special person in their lives. I'm sorry, but I don't think women should force a marriage just to keep other people from talking about them. She fell in love with each of these men and had a child with them. While she was with them, she probably thought it might last but it didn't and we don't know why. She also said in her post that she does not have anything against marriage. I don't think she shouldn't have a baby with another man just because it didn't work out with the first one. Not saying that I would do that but it's not my place to judge anyone else. Everybody has a different sense of what values are. I agree, using protection is very important but she specifically said that each child was planned so the use of condoms isn't the issue. This is a message board so everyone will have an opinion. But it's not like anyone posting on here is a saint.

having children implies COMMITTMENT, rules, standards, limits, discipline...all the things she seems to be against.
i've always been a fan of her music, and probably always will, but i find her lifestyle questionable.

Comment: Mstoast I'm not into making excuses for bad behavior and how in de heyell can you say financially AND spiritually when if she was spiritual not only would it have occurred to her after the first one 'being in love and. . .' but at least by the second one she should have known to think twice. Sure she can support them but look around, that's what half the problem in the black community is about. She is all out front and in spite of the fact that parents need to talk to their daughters more extensively, these girls still use singers and actresses as role models. Like was said earlier 'this ain't a good look.

I went to one of her shows a few months ago and while she had her moments, she is not the same Erykah people went hard for. Comment: On the real, three kids (in a stable parental environment) is not that overwhelming. But three kids by three different fathers is hella silly, especially someone who recognizes the difficulties of single parenthood. Her decision shows bad judgment. I guess all that it takes is a single moment, but one would hope that a grown woman would have a contraception plan. Whether a woman is financially capable or not of taking care of her children, there is a greater likelihood of healthier children and healthier parenting if the parents are in a committed relationship with each other... and preferably in the same household. We've so lost our way.

Comment: After child 1 and 2, she should have realized that her judgement was skewed when it came to picking that forever love and stopped having kids. The big question is how does this affect the children and what message does it send? To the girls, it's o.k. to have a baby by every man you fall in love with? To the boys, it's o.k. to spread your seed and keep it movin' let alone spread your seed behind dude's #1, 2, 3....? And what about the level of paternal involvement? How do the children feel if they have varying level of interaction with their respective fathers? I think her decision, while her business, shows a sense of selfishness that is definately not promoting healthy spiritualality for her kids.

I know that was awhile back but well, see, if I knew that I wouldn't go near anybody from that group with a 12 ft pole. Women get passed around in those circles. I know it's years later but nah. Wouldn't be me. I'd have to go with him to the doctor, personally eye the AIDS/HIV test and then watch him like a hawk til the test came back to even think about touching him in a way other than a handshake.

My Mom raised three of us (same father though!) and we all turned out well. No jail, drugs or serious issues. Comment: Browntwo no we haven't forgotten the role SOME strong black women have played being single and raising decent kids. No it's not the ideal situation but its more prevalent with black women who weren't ready to reproduce and had nothing to teach the kids from the several men they slept with. We've got to stop applauding this behavior when it's a big part of the downfall of the black community. So what she can afford them - it goes way past that! Three fathers who have God only knows how many other kids and who may NEVER know each other - that's a problem. It's also a problem that this female gets pregnant every time she falls in love - that's not good either. At some point single mothers are going to have to admit the rug rats they had grew up without disipline or guidance and spend they're time taking or trying to take what everyone else has worked for. Or they have no thought to spray a neighborhood during the day when children are at play or at night when innocent families are spending time with each other. We all suffer from the single mothers that don't fit the mold you laid out and that's more than just a notion!

Comment: I'm glad to see there's a lot of folks here who see what a sad situation this is, and see that marriage is important thing. Sometimes I get the impression that black folk as a whole dont value marriage anymore like we used to, which is sad. I remember a homegirl of mine in her late 20's,(married to a black brotha) told me she was asked by a young black woman if she was married. She said yes. The woman then asks "do you have kids?" She said no. The woman was kinda puzzled for a minute and asked her "So why did you two get married if you dont have any kids??"...Sistagirl was actually puzzled as to why two young black people who dont have kids would be getting married! Needless to say, my friend was flabbergasted by the question, as was I when I heard the story. That was one of those moments when I think to myself: I love my peoples... but we gots to do better.
