Comment: MOTHERSHIP, he can't JUST BECOME a citizen. Many emigrants believe that somehow becoming a citizen here is an afront to their country back home. They don't realize the benifits of being a citizen in this country or feel that the benefits outweight that feeling of connection to home. Sometimes it's just ignorance of the process. This is not Ricks problem now. He has a record, and that can put haults on that process. He has most of the qualifications, but the same thing that is causing him issues with immigration would kill citizenship.

Comment: Gov. Patterson pardoned him, so he should be able to manuver some. I think the problem stems from the home end though.

Comment: Naturalization is a long process. It already takes about 10 years when your affairs are in order. Now, add to that INS always being behind on applications, deportations on the rise ("terrorism"), and committing crimes and serving time while not being a citizen...then you have Slick Rick.
