It's a slap in the face if I spend money on your brand and you don't even wanna tell me more about the real you? Funk dat. Folk like that got suttin to hide. Don't get me wrong. I respect and admire Latif, but a chick never seen on the arm of a man must be gay. Just tell the truth. Don't go to your grave as a public figure and hide who you really are.

Comment: Tell 'em baby! They don't get that part of you. I'm feeling that. What's happening WordUp? I understand that sometimes, most celebrity's personal lives come out for the world to see. Sometimes it's of there own doing, sometimes without their consent. But do you really believe that because we spend our money to see an actor in a movie or put down our ducats for a singer's album that we should be entitled to some of the most intimate aspects of their lives? I don't know about that. And I don't think it's as harsh as a slap in the face if they refuse to share that part of them with the public. Don't get me wrong. I'm a fan of some singers and actors (Latifah definitely being one of them. Her badazz royalness) and I wouldn't mind knowing a little something deeper about them. But I wouldn't think that keeping it private to their inner circle is a bad thing. Not passing judgment. Just wondering about your comment.

Comment: All a celebrity owes me is a good performance. They are just there to entertain me in whatever capacity their art calls for (singing, acting, sports, whatever). It's a bonus if they want to share their interests, personal details, favorite vacation spot, whatever, but it's not required. If they choose to reveal certain details (abuse, alcholism, learning disability, etc.) with the idea that they may be able to help others, that to is commendable but not required. I just say live and let live. Now if I see a celebrity and I walk up to them to commend them for a brief second, I do expect them to be courteous because it is my dollars that pay for their lifestlye. But beyond that, I don't expect anything else....

Comment: >WordUp - you're full of sh*t. None of them owe you a d*mned thing but good work as Papasmurf said. She gives you good albums, good movies, and beautiful pictures and commercials of a real black woman for CoverGirl and Jenny Craig. Knowing all of her personal information should mean nothing and should not be required. These celebrities are being preyed on and hounded because of ig'nant people like you who buy the stupid tabloids. Truth be told, I wish I knew less about certain celebrities because I love their work but in real life, they seem like total assh*les. Can anybody say Terrence Howard??? You need to check yourself. We live in a society where people know too much about people in the public eye. They are entitled to some privacy. It's funny because people trip off Diddy and Halle for practically having a news conference every time they sneeze or fart. I know it annoys me so it is refreshing for a celebrity to say, "no comment". Denzel refuses to discuss his personal life, too and people let him alone. She deserves the same courtesy.

It is no secret that many fans and others obsess over actors it's happened since the beginning of televison and It's not going to stop now. Celebrities want all the glitz and the glamour but get mad when the nature of the job displays the facet of having no privacy. I like my girl Latifah, but she needs to shut up, we all know she is suspect so she should just either not say anything at all or just say no. It may sound strange but
don't like deceptive people and really just want to know about the actor\actress they support and pay there money to go see. Face it we don't always like actors because they look a certain way, we like to identify with them and know who they are aside from there acting.

Comment: Dang! Got real heated up in here! Every body is entitled to their opinion, man. In my own personal opinion, I personaly dont feel entertainers owe me anything, even in public, like an autograph. Especially if they are with their family and i happen to see them. They worked, gave me a product and i bought it, i paid for the product not their personal business. i either enjoyed the product of their work or not, but that's what i paid for, not them. of course i might buy something based on me liking that person or enjoying their previous products. many people are filthy rich because i and others bought their product. A producer or writer of movies or songs have great lifestyles because i bought that same product and we don't expect to know their business. it is not my right to know anything, except what they choose to share. the media has made us think we need and have the right to know these people business. keep doing you Queen and if you want to share anything about your life do so, if not don't. Comment: >Cappaucino - to people in the arts, their artform is their job, just like whatever you do 9-5 or whenever is your job. There is no requirement of them to have people dig all in their lives. Sure, they have to do interviews and walk the red carpet and all of that. BUT the only requirement of them in their interviews is to talk about whatever project they are working on. I saw Denzel on the Today Show back when he did "The Manchurian Candidate" and they asked him about his political affiliation. He refused to answer and said "Let's talk about the movie. That's what we're here for." He has also said "This is my job. It's what I do. My private life doesn't need to come into it." I have much respect for that. The other celebrities choose to put all their business out there. Many don't. It is a choice. As I said, all that is "required" of celebrities in terms of the public is that they do the interviews on the night shows, the morning shows, etc. So, as I did with ole evil WordUp, I have to disagree with you.

Without the fan supporting them or them being the next big thing they don't get invited to A-List events, it's harder for them to get the best roles. In fact when you are Hot bcuz of public buzz scripts are written for you. So it's the nature of the beast. Him on the cover, "I'm gay" - I was like "No sh*t you're gay! Who actually thought you were straight?"... So Queen Latifah does a cover of People Magazine with a rainbow shirt on holding hands with her woman. What then? How will that change your view of her? Her reasons for keeping her life private are hers.

Comment: Cappaucino - Okay. You're right. Their PR people do all of that. And Queen Latifah has done all of that and yet she still kept her life to herself. How do you explain that? She's been as successful as a superstar can be in the 20+ years she's been in the public eye and she still kept it all to herself. Why do you think she needs to put the rest of her business out there now when she has been successful that long without doing it? Please explain...

Comment: queeniebunz: You have the right to your own opinion. Just like Queen has the right to deny telling her business. But she can't expect the game to change for her, people are still going to ask, bcuz it's the nature of the business. As for my man Zel he is an Icon, a Legend and people will do anything just to have him on the show so what Zel say's goes. When you say I want to be (famous)or agree to be (famous)you have to understand what that means in fact one of the definitions of famous is worded as(suggests well-deserved public attention ) so again just like I mentinoed cinnamonqueen, it comes with the territory.

An actor I know or feel I do anyway I will go straight to the movies to see. Why bcuz it's human nature so while she is relevant I am sure bcuz she has a loyal fanbase she would probably be even bigger he she wasn't so defensive about it. I mean interviews sell products it's a commercial so if someone wants to interview her and she is like my personal life is off limits then they say ok lets go get Dave Chapelle. Why do you think Sara Palin keeps trying to identify with Moose hunters and Hockey moms? Because it sells, as a matter of fact Politicians take lessons from actors to become better at this identifying process.

Comment: I agree about the nature of the business. It is a beast! I think it's disgusting how people get chased down by photographers etc trying to get info and dirt of celebs. I don't feel sorry for them, that's that industry. I'm not moved in a positive way by that. I think the interviews, booksignings, etc is promotion, that's business. If you are selling something retail or advertsing something you have to promote it to sell. you are trying to convince me to buy it, same as with them promoting a movie etc. it's business. i just don't like how the public has been convinced that these people OWE us their private life. They don't owe us anything except good product for my money. if i read a promotion about a book or film and i don't recognize or know the people in it or the author, i go by what it's about and determine do i want to buy this. don't get me wrong if denzel's name is on it i get it or go see it, because of his previous work it's prob money well spent. that's all he owes me though. I'm just saying, tell your business or don't tell it, it's up to you. I don't take it personal, don't care and don't think I have the right to know it. Again, just my opinion, which is something else everyone is entitled to.

Comment: I can certainly agree with you on all fronts, but actors create a hype and phenomenom around themselves and excpect all hysteria to go away after the movie leaves theatres. If so they would be broke so I say just enjoy being relevant. Hey you don't have to tell us everything but you know being an actor it's in the job description. So IMO it's arrogant to think the game is going to change for them. They knew all this going into the job, so she shouldn't get mad or defensive.

Well - I'm assuming she's GAY. Do I care? NO I don't. Because who she is does not affect her talent or her achievements as an entertainer.

Comment: >Cappaucino - I believe Queen Latifah to be an icon too at this point. She's been in the business for 20+ years. She had a successful TV show, "Living Single" (which I love still! Max was my GURL!), she has a successful music career rapping AND singing, she's done countless movies, including "Chicago" in which she was nominated for an academy award. She's done comedy and drama and done both well. She has a modeling campaign. She's worked with some of the best in the business because SHE is regarded as one of the best in the music AND film business. The woman is a superstar. She has done what many have tried to do unsuccessfully - be a music and film superstar. She's done better than Madonna in that sense because as much of an icon as Madonna is, she still has never really made the transition with the success that Latifah, Will Smith and even LL have done. To me, she's up there with Will Smith. She may not have the paper he does but she's up there with him because she's done EVERYTHING. So having done all of that, with a fan base of all races and with the respect of all of Hollywood, how can you possibly say that she still needs to tell you if she's gay or not? She doesn't need you to buy anything of hers because she'll do fine anyway because other people don't care as long as she's fantastic in her work. I may sound like I'm sweatin' her or whatever but I just have a serious problem with people who think it's their right to get in famous people's business. And I have so much respect for all she's done. I was in high school when she came out with "Ladies First" and it was the bomb to me and my peers that she was such a strong young woman rapping about empowering women. She's up there with Salt-n-Peppa as a female rap superstar. And having done all of that, it's more important to y'all that she tell you whether she kisses girls or not. Wow.

When you think madonna you think Vogue. Madonna told people hey I am bi so what! People still buy her music in fact it's through the roof, she is the highest netting female artist of all time(still). Celebrites make public service announcements and stuff telling or informing us to do stuff, well who is this person I am listening too? What are his\her beliefs? I love Madonna regardless, I'ts not that I want to know all her personal life but fans just want to know more about the person, I don't want to know who she is doing, I don't care! But dang open up a little, it's not like folk don't know already! But yes she is very successful but not as successful as people who divulge a little about thier life, look at Will and Jada! People love them and embrace them, why? Because people feel like they know them and that's the whole point of being famous.

Aaaahhh NO, he didn't and folks kept moving right along. To this day, no one (woman or man) has outright confirmed a 'personal' involvement with him. So, if Queen chooses to air her personal bizness or not, how does this add any value to anyone's life outside of her social circle? Personally, I could careless if she's doing Tony or Tina. She's one of the more dignified entertainers around. So, if she wants to keep her bizness to herself, so be it. There are more important things in the world to be concerned with.JMO.

Just because someone doesn't come out to world doesn't mean that they are struggling in their own personal life. Most celebrities already came to grips that they are gay long before but didn't or don't feel need to put their business out on front street. CAPPAUCINO... the person on the cereal box is only an image not a personal diary. You don't even need them on the box to buy the product. You're just stupid to fall for the product to buy just because "such & such" is on there. It's cereal. You're buying cereal not the celebrity on the box. GEEZ! Also acting, singing & other entertainment fields are jobs just like doctor, lawyer, etc. Their personal lives is not your business. These actors/singers usually are not in the closest... they do their personal business and other industries insiders know this but we're not faze by it like the public cause it's the norm.

You wouldn't see him inside People "running errands" in sweats if he were still alive. Bottom line, people are prying with her because the writting is seemingly on the wall (as with Ellen and Rosie) AND she is an all around celebrity in the way more private stars (Luther) never were. Yes, folks are going to take notice of her looking butch with her "trainer" in tow. And I agree, just like we all have to accept BS on the job how are these folks immune?

Comment: Mas I say that because from what I've heard she was not exactly comfortable openly persuing women at first. That to me says that yes, maybe it was a little hard for her to accept. And you are living in a fantasy if you believe your personal life does not effect work. People have been fired/placed under review for personal situations such as divorce, substance abuse, and even cigarette smoking. If the company feels like their interests are not being served by your PERSONAL DECISIONS then they intervene. Celebrities chose a lifestyle of attention-seeking, but do not want the flip side. Such as LIFE....

Comment: Most celebrities, including Queen Latifah, discuss some part of their private life. Particularly when they are trying to sell something or it works in their advantage. A lot of publicist will probably tell a celebrity that they should share a little bit of their private life with the public because the public likes this type of information and it makes the celebrity appear more human. But the problem is that the public seems to think that they are entitled to know anything and everthing and this is wrong.

Comment: MAS kizz my azz. U always gettin cussed out by somebody on this board anyway cuz u always moufin off to somebody ain't even talkin to you! Dizzyazz. Like it or not, people stylin and profilin in the spot light should be truthful about their lives. Naw, Latifah ain't gotta reveal a dam thang about her personal life. But that surely won't make her endearing to others. She's a fraud! Living the human experience is about acknowledging the truth. If you don't do it, you leave a legacy of lies that blocks your entry into heaven. Many peeps goin to hell for failing to tell the truth!

Comment: As a matter of fact, if you want to know about uninhibited human behavior it's best to study children. When I was young I had all my favorite rappers on the wall Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, Salt and Pepa. I wanted to know a little about them because they were like me, I identified with them. As i said b4 I don't want to know every detail about anyones life but heck it seems like she brings the issue up when no one is talking about just to stir up controversy, she announced she would be marrying her long time trainer friend in a magazine then... silence! I must say I don't care about her like that anyway, you can argue, call me crazy but I know about the business in fact I been in it, and was married to someone who was in the biz and can tell you they(many) crave the attention but not always what comes with it. Thats why they get into it in the first place, try ignoring them at an event and see what happens.

Comment: Like it or not, our insatiable curiosity regarding the personal lives of celebrities is a sign of the times. Today, even 'regular' people put way too much personal information (IMO) on Facebook and MySpace. (No wonder we want to know EVERYTHING about celebrities!) Gone are the days when gay celebrities (like Rock Hudson, Richard Chamberlain, etc) could hide their orientaion from the public for decades. The Latifah question will keep popping up until she comes out, then there'll be a collective yawn - like when Clay Aiken made his anti-climactic announcement!

Dam what goes on in her crib. That ain't the point. The point is she won't be real. Stand for something like the truth or fall for a life full of lies. AND BURN BABY BURN!

Comment: I believe we are put on this earth to tell the truth about our lives. TO CONFESS. That goes for everybody, but particularly people who want to make a statement by getting in the spotlight. Whether they want to or not, whether they like it or not, celebrities serve as role models. They are supposed to be truthful about important parts of their lives. That includes sharing what and who makes them feel whole. If Latifah is a lesbian, she would garner much respect in this day and age if she just told the truth about it -- since rumors keep surfacing about it. It would not hurt her career.

Comment: >WordUp - You truly are ridiculous. You said: " I wanna know if you sweet on women, gurl! I wanna know the truth about your sexual preference. I ain't askin to know what you do with your main squeeze, but I would like to know who you wanna squeeze. He11, errybody else in your world shares who they wit, what's up witchu? Why can't you be truthful about who you wit? Honey, don't forget, the truth sets us free!" - Why the ham sandwich do you care so much? What? You want a date with her? My goodness but you're pressed. I don't understand why you or Cappaucino care so much. Why does it matter so much to you? You have said that you don't understand lesbians and what they do while saying you don't have anything against it. I think you are lying. I believe your desire to know is so you can judge her. Funny thing is you already think you know. I daresay that most people on here and in general think she is a lesbian. Okay. So what? So she dates/sexes/marries her female trainer. Why is it so important to you that she shout it from the rooftops - "HEY! EVERYONE! I'M QUEEN LATIFAH AND I'M 100% GAY! I'M GAY, EVERYBODY! I'M GAY!" - So she does that - then what? So you then you would know and could stop your obsession with knowing. What would that do for you? She doesn't seem like a tortured soul to me. She doesn't seem as if not stating her sexual orientation has lost her sleep. It's her business and it's her choice to divulge whatever she chooses to the public. Those close to her have never said a peep about it. Perhaps that's because she is "out" to her inner circle and feels no need to tell the rest of us. She's close to her mom. What does that say to me? It says she has the support of her mom in whoever she dates and in how she lives. That is what's most important - your family and friends. To the rest of us, she owes whatever she feels like telling us about her life.

But what the ham sandwich does that have to do with your obsession with Queen Latifah's sexual orientation? And why does my hair have to be nappy? And even if it was, why is that bad? Besides, nappy is relative. I would refer you to my myspace page so you can see "my weave" but I really don't want you on there. Quite frankly, you frighten me.

Comment: MAS you might want to GTFOHWTBS because nowhere in here did I say I had a problem with this woman. NOWHERE. You are sensitive to this subject because I believe you relate and so you are trying project what has not been said. Again, from what I hear even in the gay clubs she was not trying to go for her back in the day for whatever reason. Now I guess she is cool with herself and is doing her. Secondly, I stated the job comparison because you wanted to make a point that none of this should matter when in reality people's opinions carry weight. That is why folks will continue to pry, whether she wants them to or not. Thirdly, don't ever address me like that again. I WAY outta your league trying to paint me as some hater. Comment: Bottomline some people are nosier than others. In generally I don't care what any celeb does unless it involves illegal activities with children or animals, or perhaps if they are an Enemy of the State. No one owes anyone the truth, as long as they are true to themselves. I've gone by whether someone is entertaining or not, not who they are with if they are of legal age. I can feel why many people don't like folks in their business, I don't like it myself and try to find other things to talk about other than my personal business, I'm not ashames just simply if I want you to know I'll let you know if, not oh well I'm sure you have enough business that you will surely get over not knowing mine. Latifah is my girl whatever---who she is with who really cares, will it do anything more than satify your curiousity if she told?

Comment: >SweetieDarlin - I don't know if you got my response yesterday to the Halle Berry not being married thing but I wanted to respond to you...Have I mellowed/changed my mind? -> I don't know. Maybe I did mellow. I guess it's a matter of respect. Halle isn't being disrespected by this man (to our knowledge). And, the decision not to marry seems to be hers. As far as we know, this guy isn't traveling around the country dropping seed everywhere he goes like Diddy. I can't really put Kim Porter and Halle Berry in the same category in that sense. I do still believe a woman should stand up for herself in a relationship and not take the mess Kim took. I guess it seems different to me because she seems to be the one running things. For me it's a power/control thing. I still do believe in marriage, though. I won't have kids myself until I'm married. And, I guess it also has to do with her not being dependent on him for money and support as Porter is Diddy. Halle isn't having a baby to keep a man close or to earn his love as Kim seems to be doing. Gabriel could disappear and Halle and her baby would be fine. I don't know. I hope I don't seem hypocritical. I don't mean to. I guess I just see the relationships differently. And, I understand that some people just are burned out by marriage. She did it twice already. Diddy never even asked Kim to marry him once yet she kept dropping babies and you can't tell me she didn't hope that he would finally marry her once she had the twins. Of course he didn't. Then what did he do? He got another woman pregnant at the same time! Jeez. I may have mellowed or I may have gotten less judgmental. I don't know. I'll have to think about this for a moment. I'll get back to you... ;)

Comment: This just illustrates the double standard that is in place when it comes to things like this. If a masculine Black man were to come out publicly, his career would be OVA! My Mistress Earth told me that's why Luther died at home alone, after endless eating binges and fad diets, all because we would not allow him to love who he wanted to love openly. If Latifah comes out, there might be an initial backlash, but, eventually, she will regain all the ground she had lost, just like Ellen, cause America loves lesbians...PEACE.

Comment: Hey Queenie, Thank you for your response. It could be a combination of both, it's one of those things where you keep your own values but understand those whose values are not quite the same as long as there is no harm done. I do believe in Kim's case you may have been feeling her pain, here she was pretending that her lifestyle and relationship with Diddy was cool as it was but secretly wishing they were married, especially since he was vocal about wanting to marry Jennifer Lopez but not her. Thinking about your article now, it was more towards, have pride, don't keep having all these babies wanting to be married but accepting that he doesn't want to marry you, yet you have carried his children (three times!) Let me know what you think of my analysis, when you think about it...

Comment: >BBR - I don't disagree with you. Lesbians are more accepted in our society. Here's something to think about, though. I believe that the double standard you speak of is about men, not women. Men have fantasies about lesbians and even want to get in on it! Men really don't mind the idea of lesbians. Me, I don't care about gay men. I actually love gay men. I think they're adorable and great as friends. But men, and especially black men, can't stomach the idea of gay men. There's your problem. It's y'all, not us. WordUp is the exception not the rule. Most women don't care if a woman is gay or not. As long as the gay woman respects our right to be hetero and doesn't try and push up, we really don't care. That's not true for most men at all. I feel sorry for Luther and the life he lead. It sounds very sad.

Comment: BigBlackRod, that was Luther's fear but was it valid? Johnny Mathis is known to be gay and he still sells records. Most people knew Luther was gay, he just never said. I think perhaps Luther may have had his own 'shame' and projected his thoughts on others and no I am not saying he should have been ashamed about being gay but perhaps thinking others would be upset because of the way he was raised to feel. From what I read, his fad diets and diet yo-yoing were from his shame about being fat and not being able to control it not loneliness, he wanted very much to look good, not be a sex symbol but simply look good. Then again binge eating usually has an underlying factor. I think Luther had issues far beyond what we suspected, would someone really chose complete loneliness to have a career (too easy to do thing on the low, we actually do NOT know everything that goes on with celebs.) Heck even the book about his life did not mention who he was with male, female, cat or dog.

Comment: >SweetieDarlin - You are correct. I have a good friend who had a baby with a guy she KNEW wasn't faithful to her and she knew he didn't want to marry her and she knew that even if he did, he wouldn't be faithful to her. I was very upset with her for knowingly having a baby and bringing a child into that situation. It ended up being as bad as I knew it would be. When their daughter was born, we were all in the hospital room and he was holding her and I said to him, "You're in love, aren't you?" and he just smiled and looked down at her. When he left the room for a minute, my friend said, "He's not in love with his daughter enough to be with her." I knew she meant to be with THEM. And it has been awful for that little girl. Her mom has subtly been trying to turn her against her dad and it angers me. That's what happens when you bring children into situations like that. What is Kim Porter saying about ole Diddy in front of or to her children? My friend is what drove me to write that article. It had nothing really to do with my own experience. I don't have kids. I just don't like to see a woman put herself in a situation she knows is bad for her and I dislike it even more when she brings a child into the equation. It's not healthy for the woman or the child/children. I honestly don't see Halle doing that if she and that fine piece of vanilla candy break up. She seems like she could take him or lose him. That's the difference. She won't harm her child in the process AND she isn't giving up her power.

Comment: Well, Clay Aiken used to say the same kinda things for a while... till he finally felt like coming out of the closet. It'll probably be the same way with Latifah. I guess she'll come out when she's ready. And if she doesn't... well, let's just say the closet door is wide open anyway. Even Stevie Wonder can see what's up. So, let's keep it moving. Next.
