Comment: Shyt comin' to bite mofo's in the azz! Minn. rep calls talk show appearance `big mistake'
Wed Oct 22, 7:16 am ET 'Anti-American' Controversy Not Bachmann's First. 'Anti-American' Comments Hurt Michele Bachmann - ABC News ST. PAUL, Minn. – Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann says she regrets using the term "anti-American" while discussing Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's views, a remark that could threaten her re-election bid.
Bachmann told the St. Cloud Times on Tuesday that she "made a big mistake" by going on MSNBC's "Hardball," a show she said she'd never seen before her appearance last week. Her statement to host Chris Matthews that Obama "may have anti-American views" drew condemnation and helped her opponent, Democrat Elwyn Tinklenberg, raise more than $1 million in just a few days.
During an interview with the Times' editorial board, Bachmann said she walked into a trap and did not bring up the term "anti-American." Still, she said, "I should not have used that phrase."
Earlier in the day, Bachmann told St. Cloud Rotary Club members she would like to "take back" the statement.
"I did not say that Barack Obama was anti-American, nor do I believe Barack Obama is anti-American. He loves his country, just as everyone in this room does," she told the crowd. "Nor did I call for an investigation of members of Congress for their pro-American or anti-American views. That is not what I said."

Comment: Crenee..well yes and no. The new information we have about this (which is why it was reported in full on y'day) is the seemingly nefarious use of the taxpayers money to pay for unofficial travel..even to the point where Palin (as late as August) amended her travel voucher to reflect 'official travel' for her kids. TMK, The previous revelation you are referring to was about her and the whole per diem/charging for nights spent at home thing w/scant attention to the details of the kids travels. Also, not to jump on Jamer's point, BUT, the reason that some people would think you have 'other' intentions is found in the rationale of your post. You defended/concluded that this story is a non-issue because it had been found that she charged much less than her predecessors. Yet, you go on to ask whether they had [been fair] looked into other governor's of the past. The contradiction is...if they concluded that she charged less than her prede's...then y do you wonder if they looked into other governor's. Shouldn't that be obvious from the conclusion? I doubt if they compared what she did to what a schoolteacher did. They did compare her to other gov's. So you are both right and wrong.

Comment: The Norwegian newspaper VG has reported a truly amazing story about a newly-wed trying to get to Norway to be with her husband, and the stranger who helped pay an unexpected luggage surcharge. The blog "Leisha's Random Thoughts" has translated the story.
It was 1988, and Mary Andersen was at the Miami airport checking in for a long flight to Norway to be with her husband when the airline representative informed her that she wouldn't be able to check her luggage without paying a 100 surcharge:
When it was finally Mary's turn, she got the message that would crush her bubbling feeling of happiness.
-You'll have to pay a 103 dollar surcharge if you want to bring both those suitcases to Norway , the man behind the counter said.
Mary had no money. Her new husband had travelled ahead of her to Norway , and she had no one else to call.
-I was completely desperate and tried to think which of my things I could manage without. But I had already made such a careful selection of my most prized possessions, says Mary.
As tears streamed down her face, she heard a "gentle and friendly voice" behind her saying, "That's okay, I'll pay for her."
Mary turned around to see a tall man whom she had never seen before.
-He had a gentle and kind voice that was still firm and decisive. The first thing I thought was, Who is this man?

Comment: Although this happened 20 years ago, Mary still remembers the authority that radiated from the man.
-He was nicely dressed, fashionably dressed with brown leather shoes, a cotton shirt open at the throat and khaki pants, says Mary.
She was thrilled to be able to bring both her suitcases to Norway and assured the stranger that he would get his money back. The man wrote his name and address on a piece of paper that he gave to Mary. She thanked him repeatedly. When she finally walked off towards the security checkpoint, he waved goodbye to her.
Who was the man?
Barack Obama.
Twenty years later, she is thrilled that the friendly stranger at the airport may be the next President and has voted for him already and donated 100 dollars to his campaign:
-He was my knight in shining armor, says Mary, smiling.
She paid the 103 dollars back to Obama the day after she arrived in Norway . At that time he had just finished his job as a poorly paid community worker* in Chicago , and had started his law studies at prestigious Harvard university.
Mary even convinced her parents to vote for him:
In the spring of 2006 Mary's parents had heard that Obama was considering a run for president, but that he had still not decided. They chose to write a letter in which they told him that he would receive their votes. At the same time, they thanked Obama for helping their daughter 18 years earlier.
And Obama replied:

Comment: In a letter to Mary's parents dated May 4th, 2006 and stamped 'United States Senate, Washington DC', Barack Obama writes:
'I want to thank you for the lovely things you wrote about me and for reminding me of what happened at Miami airport. I'm happy I could help back then, and I'm delighted to hear that your daughter is happy in Norway . Please send her my best wishes. Sincerely, Barack Obama , United States Senator'.
The parents sent the letter on to Mary.
Mary says that when her friends and associates talk about the election, especially when race relations is the heated subject, she relates the story of the kind man who helped out a stranger-in-need over twenty years ago, years before he had even thought about running for high office.
Truly a wonderful story, and something that needs to be passed along in the maelstorm of fear-and-smear politics we are being subjected to right now.
UPDATE: Thanks for the recommends, folks! Also, remember this was 1988, when 100 dollars was quite a bit of money, compared to today's value.
By the way, this would be the perfect antidote to the Smear E-mails going around. If anyone has a good long email chain list, shoot it out, and let it be passed along.

Comment: In addition to that, Palin had the paperwork amended after reporters started looking into the trips. She had them add language about the kids performing official duties and/or tying their trips to the business reason for her visits. I don't have a problem with her taking all of her brood, but taxpayers shouldn't have to pay for their expensive flights, rooms and meals.

stumble digg reddit del.ico.us news trust mixx.com
WASHINGTON — Al-Qaida supporters suggested in a Web site message this week they would welcome a pre-election terror attack on the U.S. as a way to usher in a McCain presidency.
The message, posted Monday on the password-protected al-Hesbah Web site, said if al-Qaida wants to exhaust the United States militarily and economically, "impetuous" Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain is the better choice because he is more likely to continue the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"This requires presence of an impetuous American leader such as McCain, who pledged to continue the war till the last American soldier," the message said. "Then, al-Qaida will have to support McCain in the coming elections so that he continues the failing march of his predecessor, Bush."

It's not old news. It's news as of 10/21..meaning y'day. IMO, being "fair" means that you would've just said that "they looked into others governors of the past and concluded that she charged less than her predecessors." You did the complete opposite and posed a rhetorical question while feigning ignorance at the same time. And there are racist democrats as had been noted during the primary against Obama. Comment: I also think that most people..including McCain try to get freebies. Once you finish reading, you'll find the issue isn't the non-abuse of her position by taking her kids along...the issue is the hypocrisy. What Senator doesn't wear nice and sometimes expensive clothes? Prolly none of 'em. Yet, John "Ferragamo" McCain, Cindy "800/month amex" McCain and now Sarah "125k wardrobe/Salt of the mother earth" Palin have been caught w/their hands in the cookie jar but accused Obama of being the out of touch elitist. Palin pushes being a reformer but uses tax payer funds to pay for her children on unofficial travel. Yep, many prolly do it neway. But, don't make an issue about it and it won't have to come back and bite u in the azz. Remember Hillary had the same problem during ther primary. Really? I would like to meet them bcz I see and know many people who pa.ss by homeless people everyday and don't even open their mouths to speak let alone give them nething. RE: newsworthy stories. U know how the game is played here. Joe the plumber isn't newsworthy but he made the news. lol I'm a lil confused here becuz u directed your "sarah spent less" comments to ginger and attempted to correct her on the story being old news. It has to do with organizing a 50-state collective that will encourage African Americans to be supportive of Barack throughout his presidency while, at the same time, empowering themselves to be the best they can be through programs that are available to them. And, if programs don't exist, to obtain commitments from mentors, etc. If this sounds like something of interest to you, hit me up at di.mgmt_pr@yahoo.com.
