Comment: Good Morning everyone. I hope everyone had a great weekend. I went to church yesterday for the first time in 8 months. It felt good. Trader Joe's had thier grand opening this weekend and I am very fond of that store. I realized I have a 2 day conference Tuesday and Wednesday, so you will not be blessed with my wit and je ne se quoi for those days. Try to deal with the loss constructively.

Comment: WTF!?!?? "It’s the most talked-about, blogged-about and buzzed-about mascara in years. It’s been featured in People Magazine, O: The Oprah Winfrey Magazine, Vogue, InStyle and Allure. It’s Ôscillation, Lancôme’s first vibrating mascara. The battery-operated wand generates 7,000 vibrations, or oscillations, per minute and recreates the zig-zag motion that makeup artists use to get long, gorgeous lashes."

Comment: CNN) -- A southern Ohio community is bracing for possible layoffs as DHL Express -- the largest employer in the area -- planned to announce its quarterly earnings report and restructuring details.
DHL's parent company, German-based Deutsche Post World Net, will announce plans for its U.S. operations to investors Monday, said spokesman Jonathan Baker. He did not respond to published reports that Deutsche Post has ordered roughly 8,000 layoffs at DHL's Wilmington hub.
But Ohio officials were scrambling over the weekend to offset possible job cuts to the community. U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, sent a letter Friday to DHL Chief Executive Officer John Mullen asking for immediate information about layoffs in the Wilmington area.
According to a statement from his office, Brown also called U.S. Deputy Secretary of Labor Howard Radzely "to seek immediate attention to a state of Ohio request for emergency funds to assist workers and communities affected by DHL's loss in business since announcing a proposed outsourcing agreement with UPS."
In May, Deutsche Post announced plans to outsource air services with UPS (UPS, Fortune 500). Brown says the plan would mean shutting down DHL's hub in Wilmington and cutting at least 8,000 jobs. Brown testified at two congressional hearings this year that centered on the proposal.
"Everybody is watching to see what happens tomorrow," said UPS spokesman Norman Black.
He added that UPS has been in negotiations with DHL to become its air carrier between U.S. airports, which would reduce costs because DHL currently uses two separate carriers for this task.
Wilmington Mayor David Razik said he had no details about the DHL announcement, but he was preparing for the worst.
"Given the state of the economy and the worldwide economic collapse, we know it can't be good news," he told CNN Sunday night. "Freight is down significantly, DHL is losing customers, they have laid off sales personnel in other locations. We really think it's certainly not going to be good for Wilmington."

Comment: CLEVELAND – A contractor who found $182,000 in Depression-era currency hidden in a bathroom wall has ended up with only a few thousand dollars, but he feels some vindication.
The windfall discovery amounted to little more than grief for contractor Bob Kitts, who couldn't agree on how to split the money with homeowner Amanda Reece.
It didn't help Reece much, either. She testified in a deposition that she was considering bankruptcy and that a bank recently foreclosed on one of her properties.
And 21 descendants of Patrick Dunne — the wealthy businessman who stashed the money that was minted in a time of bank collapses and joblessness — will each get a mere fraction of the find.
"If these two individuals had sat down and resolved their disputes and divided the money, the heirs would have had no knowledge of it," said attorney Gid Marcinkevicius, who represents the Dunne estate. "Because they were not able to sit down and divide it in a rational way, they both lost."
Kitts was tearing the bathroom walls out of an 83-year-old home near Lake Erie in 2006 when he discovered two green metal lockboxes suspended inside a wall below the medicine chest, hanging from a wire. Inside were white envelopes with the return address for "P. Dunne News Agency."
"I ripped the corner off of one," Kitts said during a deposition in a lawsuit filed by Dunne's estate. "I saw a 50 and got a little dizzy."
He called Reece, a former high school classmate who had hired him for a remodeling project.
They counted the cash and posed for photographs, both grinning like lottery jackpot winners.
But how to share? She offered 10 percent. He wanted 40 percent. From there things went sour.

Comment: A month after The Plain Dealer reported on the case in December 2007, Dunne's estate got involved, suing for the right to the money.
By then there was little left to claim.
Reece testified in a deposition that she spent about $14,000 on a trip to Hawaii and had sold some of the rare late 1920s bills. She said about $60,000 was stolen from a shoe box in her closet but testified that she never reported the theft to police.
Kitts said Reece accused him of stealing the money and began leaving him threatening phone messages. Marcinkevicius doesn't believe the money was stolen but said he couldn't prove otherwise.
Reece's phone number has been disconnected, and her attorney Robert Lazzaro did not return a call seeking comment. There were no court records showing that Reece had filed for bankruptcy.
Kitts said he lost a lot of business because media reports on the case portrayed him as greedy, but he feels vindicated by the court's decision to give him a share.
"I was not the bad guy that everybody made me out to be," Kitts said. "I didn't do anything wrong."
He's often asked why he didn't keep his mouth shut and pocket the money. He says he wasn't raised that way.
"It was a neat experience, something that won't happen again," Kitts said. "In that regard, it was pretty fascinating; seeing that amount of money in front of you was breathtaking. In that regard, I don't regret it.
"The threats and all — that's the part that makes you wish it never happened

I didn't make it to a store to check my actual color so I just bought some Anastasia brow filler, some more lip gloss and some eye shadow. I started to order some perfume that someone smelled good but I don't know how it'll smell on me so I didn't order it. Damn that was dumb, I could just return it if I don't like it... I think the thing expires today, I'll order it tonight.

She got a lot of great gifts and the decor was fab. Her cake was shaped like a Tiffany's box w/ a white bow tied around it and it said "Chosen & Co." and even tho I despise the name, the cake was cute. She says she ain't having no more cuz she's been miserable the whole time. She carries around a 'spit cup' and she still vomits everyday. She says she NEVER wants to go through this again. I think she will, but she may wait a few years. Anyway, so wassup witch'all? How was y'all weekend? *scrolling up*

And WHYCOME did I almost fall OUT of the shuttle because as I was trying to look cute getting out because I noticed somebody from my staff on a smoke break and lost my concentration? WHYCOME the shuttle driver (who is a cool black dude who was helping me get out the shuttle) saved me by saying, 'I always have this effect on women...' Comment: Good morning all...just wanted to post this. May she rest in peace...JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (AP) -- Miriam Makeba, the South African singer who wooed the world with her sultry voice but was banned from her own country for more than 30 years under apartheid, died after collapsing on stage in Italy. She was 76. In her dazzling career, Makeba performed with musical legends from around the world -- jazz maestros Nina Simone and Dizzy Gillespie, Harry Belafonte, Paul Simon -- and sang for world leaders such as John F. Kennedy and Nelson Mandela.
"Her haunting melodies gave voice to the pain of exile and dislocation which she felt for 31 long years. At the same time, her music inspired a powerful sense of hope in all of us," Mandela said in a statement.
He said it was "fitting" that her last moments were spent on stage.
The death of "Mama Africa," as she was known, plunged South Africa into shock and mourning.

Comment: Hey -- how does everyone else feel about this? I hate the term "African-American" and I hate the word "minorities." I'll take the latter first. Minorities. I am not frickin minor by any count. Blacks, Asians, and Latinos, are by NO COUNT, minor. We are very much major. Real talk. I'd rather be referred to as "people of color" or "ethnic" rather than as "minor." It's a frickin insult. Well, enough about that. Now on to African-American. I feel this term only serves to DIVIDE as opposed to DISTINGUISH Black people. I can't tell you how many times I've heard the words "white" and "African-American" in the same sentence. It just doesn't make sense. We're black, have been black, will always be black. I'm BLACK and I'm PROUD. You never hear the term "Latino-American" or "Latin-American" or "European-American" or "Asian-American." We are Blacks. I ain't afraid to say it. What do folk on the board think? Am I alone in this?

Does that mean he loves me? hehehe BLACKDRAGON>> A lot of people voted for our president-elect because he is black just like a lot of people voted AGAINST him because he's black. The votes FOR him were rooted in pride, while the votes against him were rooted in racism. If we are to sit here and say that race was not a determining factor in this election we are delusional. What is your point, other than to stir up some shat?

I knew I wanted to vote for Barack Obama before he announced, as I'm sure many did. Heck, I have a videotape with both footage of my son in utero as well as Barack's announcement to seek the candidacy for the President of the United States. The tape is labeled with what I thought I wanted my son's name to be. That changed a few months later. So I knew I wanted him as president before I knew what I wanted to name my own son.

Comment: Detroiter's Obama story could top them all...Leola Brock-Reese learned who won the presidential race from the best source in America: President-elect Barack Obama himself. The 71-year-old Detroit grandmother and her best friend, Freddie Simmons, 77, drove five hours early Tuesday to her hometown. All day, she guided her friend through her Chicago: visiting the grave of her father, a city employee until he died at 87; seeing the remains of the Ida B. Wells housing projects where she grew up, and walking along the Magnificent Mile -- until their bodies reminded them they had been up since dawn. At dusk, they walked to Grant Park for what they felt would be the 8:30 p.m. victory rally to embrace indescribable emotions. But they couldn't face the throng, and their tired bodies spoke again. "We found some concrete steps, and we sat on those steps," she said. "But after 15 minutes, we said, 'This is not going to do. Let's go back to the hotel.' " They entered the Hyatt Regency and rode the elevator to the 28th floor, their comfortable room and CNN. But in the hall, they encountered men in black suits near a room marked "Employees Only." Suddenly, a group emerged surrounding a single man. " 'That's Barack Obama,' " she recalled her friend saying. "He walked toward us with his arm out, welcoming us," Brock-Reese said. "He put his arm around me and said, 'I want to take a picture with you.' We said, 'Oh, fine!' " She said she was too dazed to take a photo of her own, so as she gave Obama's photographer her address, a starstruck Simmons told Obama they were hoping for the best. And Obama told them: "It's over. I've won. I'm on my way to Grant Park now." Brock-Reese said his words didn't even register.
"Freddie just said, 'OK,' " And the two friends stood as a small army of people, all smiles, passed by. "I said, 'They sure are grinning. They are really glad to see us!' " Brock-Reese recalled as she laughed at herself. The two friends, who drove five hours to see the new America for themselves, watched history walk down the hallway. Once again, in a small and quiet way, Obama had displayed the kind of connection that he has made with voters nationwide. The hall empty, the pair went to their room and turned on CNN. The television flashed the news that they'd just heard from the man himself. "It still didn't dawn on me what he told us," she said. But the feisty grandmother, who had the day of her life and still needed a souvenir, finally remembered that she had her camera. "I took a picture of the TV."

Somebody should tell you that the term "African" is a noun and a specific ethnic designation regarding the genetic and geographic origins of a people whose genetic characteristics were "naturally selected" from their environment. The term "black" is an adjective that is sometimes used as a "symbol" for a person of African descent. There are black-skinned people in India who are darker in complexion than most Americans of African descent, but they are Indians or "East Indians," they are not Africans or of African descent. There are black-skinned, indigenous people in Australia generally called Australian Aborigines. They are not Africans or of African descent. The list keeps going in Nepal, Bangladesh, The Phillipines, etc. (although some Filipinos are of African descent). But the blacks in Jamaica are the Africans in Jamaica, the blacks in Brazil are the Africans in Brazil (over 65 million and the largest black population outside the continent of Africa), the blacks in Haiti are the Africans in Haiti, the blacks in the USA are the Africans in the USA, etc. Asian-American is a real term. It's used all the time. In fact, when describing those people, the term "Asian" is used instead of "yellow." I'm from NYC. That along with Chinese-American is used all the time (they don't commonly refer to themselves as yellow Americans). And yes, the term Latino-American is real, but it's just like Hispanic-American. Some white ethnic groups are the same. I've heard Bill O'Reilly, the late George Carlin, the late Tim Russert, Kathy Griffin, Dennis Leary and other white folks of Irish descent refer to themselves as Irish or Irish-American. Personally, I have no problem with black or black American. I just know it is not a real ethnic or racial designation. It's a symbol blacks used to reverse the negative image and symbolism whites had for us in their use of the term "black."

Comment: It was just a question. Calm down. To rayne, the fact that you don't know anything about the continent of Africa shows you're just as stupid as Sarah Palin. Africa is a continent, not a giant, culturally monolithic country. It's the second largest continent in the world. It's made up of over 50 countries. Each of those countries have their own nationality, culture, ethnic groups, languages, history, etc. Take Nigeria, for example. Nigeria is a country located in the western area of the continent of Africa (aka West Africa). People who are from the country of Nigeria are Nigerian. Nigerian is the nationality of people from Nigeria, just like American is the nationality of people from the United States of America. More to come.

Comment: blackdragon, let's keep it real. Who ever refers to Asians as "yellow" or Native Americans as "red"? Black and white and brown people are a fact of life and have figured significantly in references to ethnic pride. Nobody mistakes an aboriginal or an East Indian for a black person. And you know what I mean by black person. I KNOW some of those East Indians refer to that are darker than any black "American" I've seen. I would take care to point to Juicebox's reference to Naomi Campbell and Idris Elba being called "African American" in error. Do they call black Jamaicans Jamfrericans? Jamafricans? Naw, son! I'm Black. And I'm Proud. And have been since before November 5. I appreciate the info, and hope it sheds light for others, however, I'm Black. This in no way means I question your blackness, racial or ethnic pride. Just wanted to say how I felt as an individual.

Comment: I'm not trying to imply I'm better or smarter than anyone. I read the person's comment and it struck me as odd that someone would know nothing about the world they live in. HHCassius, many people over the years, even now, do refer to Asian-Americans as yellow and Native Americans as red. Redman and redskin are terms used to describe them. Yellow fever is a slang term used for people who are sexually attracted to Asian men or women. As for not mistaking an Indian or an Australian Aboriginal for black, have you ever been to the United Kingdom? Black is used to describe people of African descent and peopke South Asian descent. Fijian golfer Vijay Singh has been called black. It's the skin color. In Australia, the Aboriginals are called black. I've heard Aboriginals call themselves black. Basically, your skin color is not a real racial or ethnic designation. I agree with you about the refereces to blacks who are from other countries. As for blacks in Jamaica, they don't call themselves the terms you typed, but their culture is very African inspired.

Comment: I understand and applaud black Jamaicans for their cultural and racial pride that reaches back to Africa, the religion most closely associated with Jamaica in popular culture being Rastafarianism, looking back to the crowning of H.I.M. (His Imperial Majesity) Haile Sellassie I as Emperor. Haile Sellassie I being previously known as Ras Tafari (Ras being a title like Lord or General). I'm just saying, are we in Australia? No. And Americans are quite readily distinguished from any other nationality with the quickness. I believe if you put a bunch of native Africans and African-Americans (African-Americans meaning third- or fourth-generation American born people of African descent, not first- or second-generation African-Americans whose blood may not have mixed with colonial oppressors) together, it would be possible for most blacks, native African or African-American, to separate them on looks alone. I guess this points to the Obama "paying his dues" issue in which he's an enigma, not being a son by blood of the civil rights movement. I just feel the term African-Americans should be reserved for those who are first- or second-generation. Otherwise, what really ties us to Africa, BUT our skin? This reclamation of African culture is only natural, given that we were consciously stripped of all racial accoutrements, pride, and culture, but it's just that -- a reclamation. For those blessed to maintain traditions from the "dark continent," I envy them. But what I believe in fact ties most "African Americans" to Africa are physical attributes such as their skin, as opposed to cultural identity. Please don't take this to mean that I do not strongly believe in the HERITAGE we have as descendants of Africans.

Comment: 2. As “Black People,” we can no longer say that we do not know a family like the Huxtables, now we will say “I know one better, they live in the White House.”
3. “Black People” cannot abuse these four words, ‘My President is Black’. Which means do not pull into McDonald’s drive-thru and tell the person at the window, “I can have it my way, because ‘My President is Black.’” Drive across the street to Burger King.
5. Fellas, do not shoot up your whole ‘hood’, then expect “Black People” to stand behind you. That’s just plain ol’ stupidity and we won’t have any excuses for your black behind.
6. Ladies, be responsible for your actions and don’t allow yourselves to get pregnant by a no-good dude, then name the baby Obama-ichelle, and think that it’s okay. “Black People” and the Department of Family and Children Services will still look at you the same.

I'll subsitute something else (thinking some Hermes Kelly Caleche) and will do the shoulder throwback and rock on. Yelley, the main reason I went to see Soul Men was because it was Bernie's last movie. It had good moments. The best parts were the music scenes. Sam Jackson can sing and dance. All I will say is line dancing scene for a good laugh and surprise (they're performing at a hillbilly line dancing club)

Comment: flytetime, I don't want to give too much away for those who haven't seen Soul Men. Review in short: if you love Stax/boogie music, Bernie Mac and Samuel Jackson, and can forgive them for being suckered by a screenwriter who didn't understand the precious jewels they were working with (you'll understand what I mean with the plot twist towards the end of the movie with the Mac Man's character), go see it. It's really about honoring the Mac Man anyway. Isaac Hayes' part is so minimal - really a cameo anyway, but good to know that he was captured on celluloid in the last days of his earthly life.

Comment: Here are seven clear signs you might have a work spouse:
1. You depend on a particular co-worker for office supplies, snacks and aspirin.
2. There are inside jokes that you and a specific co-worker share.
3. You can be bluntly honest with this person about his or her appearance, hygiene or hair (and vice versa). You're comfortable enough to point out that the other's hair is sticking up -- or that someone's fly is down.
4. When something eventful happens at work, this co-worker is the first person you seek out for a de-briefing.
5. At breakfast, lunch and coffee breaks, your closest co-worker knows what to order for you and how you like your coffee (and vice versa).
6. You and your co-worker can finish each other's sentences.
7. Someone in your office knows almost as much about your personal life as your best friend or real-life spouse does.

I am interested in universal healthcare, getting out of the war, improving the economy, and not giving tax breaks to companies who operate outside the U.S. The fact that he is African-American was a huge plus. If he were not the most qualified IMO I would not have voted for him.

Comment: 12, I enjoyed it, but I just wished that the screenwriters had not let go of the thing towards the end. I wanted to see it for two reasons - one, to honor Bernie Mac. I have always been a fan. Two, I wanted to ensure that the money ended up in the hands of his family via the studios and not in the hands of a bootlegger. Black actors already don't make the money that their white counterparts do in Hollywood. Sure, Bernie left his family with some change, but not to the ratio that say, Will Smith would (perish the thought), or, George Clooney would leave his. Make sense?

Comment: "As we mentioned yesterday, William Balfour, the potential murderer of Jennifer Hudson's family, was being held by police in Chicago but it was possible he would be paroled on Monday if he wasn't charged with the murders.
However, today we find out that Balfour will remain in prison as police continue to investigate the murders.
A brief hearing was held this morning and the Illinois Prisoner Review Board decided that there was sufficient evidence to believe that Balfour had violated his parole in another incident, including being in an area where drugs were being sold.
The board chairman also said that a witness reported seeing Balfour with a gun that matches the description of the .45-caliber used to kill the family.
Don't forget that Balfour was out on parole for an attempted murder conviction from back in 1999.
Another hearing has been set for December 3rd.
As of today, no one has yet to be charged for the shootings, but officials continue to call Balfour a "person of interest." '

Comment: Bush popularity rating is lowest in history
A new national poll suggests that President Bush is the most unpopular president since approval ratings were first created more than six decades ago. Seventy-six percent of those questioned disapprove of how Bush is handling his job. "Bush is now more unpopular than Richard Nixon was when he resigned from office during Watergate with a 66 percent disapproval rating," said CNN polling director Keating Holland.

I voted because he taught me to stay the course when people spewed hate at him. I voted because he inspired me to demand better for my country because it is my right as a citizen. I voted because he epitomizes love for family. NO OTHER CANDIDATE during my voting lifetime has ever made me feel this way-- not Clinton, not Kerry, not Gore- none of them. Comment: Here are comments I contributed to another group. However, the 2008 election will be unforgettable for me because of several personal "firsts". 1) This was the first time that I supported a candidate so emotionally and wholeheartedly. I believe that President-Elect Barack Obama wants to help the country, and that his policies will improve my life conditions and those of others. Additionally, I was ecstatic that the best candidate for me was a qualified African-American who presented himself and his family as moral, hard-working, caring, and smart. 2) This was the first time that I contributed money to a campaign, displayed a yard sign and car magnet, and purchased clothing and accessories. 3) This will be the first time that I am interested in traveling to Washington, DC during the Inauguration period. Whether I actually see President-Elect Barack Obama take his oath, I will never forget being in the vicinity when he does. 4) This was the first time a Democratic presidential candidate won in my home state, North Carolina, since 1976. This is especially exciting considering that Jesse Helms, one of the most notorious conservative and racist Republicans in modern times, was the U.S. Senator from North Carolina with the longest term of service (1973-2002). It's ironic that he died in July 2008, before our first African-American President was elected. In summary, this is the first time that I have really felt like an American because the next President has succeeded in making me feel included in the American story. I really appreciate the inclusiveness of Mr. Obama's campaign. He demonstrated that he will work to improve the circumstances of individuals from various ethnicities, genders, generations, regions, and religions

Comment: >black, here are my REAL reasons for voting for Obama. Back in late January or early February (immediately after he won the Iowa in the primaries) I heard his speech on the radio and it moved me to tears. I was initially gonna vote for Hillary, that was until that day. I was in the car BAWLIN' as they played his speech. After that, I said to myself, "This brotha is deep...lemme see what he's talkin' about". So, I've followed his campaign daily ever since then. I did some research on his background and the fact that he was a community organizer was appealing to me. So, I continued to listen to what he had to say and I heard him talking about things that *I* care about like healthcare, teacher's salaries, education tax credit, lowering taxes. These things were all extremely important to me. He was offering more than Hillary IMO. The fact that he is black is just icing on the cake. I've always been a democrat so my choice would have never been McCain anyway. I don't like what they stand for. They don't give a damn about us middle-class folks...all they care about is making the rich more rich and McCain has proven that during his campaign. Obama has ran the smoothest, most consistent campaign in history and if he can run the country the same way that he's ran his campaign, then I know for a fact that he's gonna be an excellent president.

I'm tired, got a headache, Miriam Makeba passed away and I shall watch her haunting 1966 "When I've passed on" before I lay down, some fools cut off our water supply while working next door, super husband-in-the-making that is me expecting the worst spends good money on a set of tools only to find out that my little pliers is all I needed. I would always make one yellow w/ cream cheese icing & the other chocolate w/ cholate icing, add a few sprinkles and VIOLA! One year I made J a mud cake for his 11th bday. It was chocolate w/ crumbled up oreos, I poked a few holes in it and had gummy worms coming out of it, and I put some chocolate covered raisins on it for bugs...it was so cute! I have a pics if anyone wants to see it...

This was denounced for the real reasons e.g. his kids are cuter, he will bring red koolaid to the white house, gettin' in for McCain dissin' his first wife, Obama's waist was smaller, wife cuter, can tie his own shoes. Someone questioned Black vs. African-American, someone else started with some khufuesque lectures, was checked, came around and got hugged, another new chick that likes to shop, asize said we're intelligent, Juicebox said we aren't, Dora the Explorer, birthday cake, whipped icing vs. frosting vs no icing at all, Dr. Feelgood, Dr. Miracle (have no idea who those folks are), more coupons, blue eyed blond haired Jesus is wrong. Comment: Aah! YLawdY, you're still a queen. Thank you. Take a breath and a bow. We're still reading about Obama here, I didn't bother with the weekend's newspapers but from what I read in the online news...some white people can't accept that Obama is black. To a certain predictable section of white South Africans, Obama is coloured(a South African name for people of white and black heritage). However, they'd be happy to say he's black if there was something wrong with him. I just point and laugh at the stupidity.
You shouldn't be advising the cuzzin to give out business cards. She's been there with less success before, we don't like pieces of paper unless we want to hit it. Bumping her head while smelling some neck could at least land a "Are you ok?" response from which one thing could lead to another...unless cuzzin did the falling while on her (usual) 3am shopping on pyjamas with no makeup and unbrushed teeth. In this case, bro man can be excused for turning a blind eye. Maybe I should scroll up.

Comment: Wow! Great testament!
I DIDN'T VOTE FOR OBAMA
*I'm a middle-class white guy living in Jacksonville, Florida. *
**
*I've got a wife and two kids. Because the kids had no school *
**
*today, I took a vacation day from work, and took the kids *
**
*downtown to vote early. Fifty-nine minutes later, two smiling *
**
*children and I proudly sported "I Voted" stickers. But I *
**
*didn't vote for Obama. I voted for my ancestors, who believed *
**
*in the promise of this country and came with nothing as *
**
*immigrants. I voted for my parents, who taught in the public *
**
*schools for decades. I voted for Steve, an acquaintance of *
**
*mine from Kentucky (Killed by an IED two years ago in Iraq). *
**
*I voted for Shawn, another who's been to Iraq twice, and *
**
*Afghanistan once, and who'll be going back to Afghanistan *
**
*again soon -- and whose family earned eleven bucks a month too *
**
*much to qualify for food stamps when the war started. I voted *
**
*for April, the only African-American girl in my high school -- *
**
*it was years before it occurred to me how different her *
**
*experience in our school must have been. I voted for my *
**
*college friends who are Christian, Jewish, Mormon, and yes -- *
**
*Muslim. I voted for my grandfathers, who worked hard in *
**
*factories and died too young. I voted for the plumber who *
**
*worked on my house, because I want him to get a REAL tax *
**
*break. I voted for four little angels from Birmingham. I *
**
*voted for a bunch of dead white men who, although personally *
**
*flawed, were willing to pledge their lives, fortunes, and *
**
*sacred honor, and used a time of great crisis to expand *
**
*freedom rather than suspend it. I voted for all those people *
**
*and more, and I voted for all of you, too. But mostly, I *
**
*voted selfishly. I vote for two little kids, one who has *
**
*ballet in an hour, and one who has baseball practice at the *
**
*same time. I voted for a world where they can be confident *
**
*that their government will represent the best that is in this *
**
*country, and that will in turn demand the best of them. I *
**
*voted for a government that will be respected in the world. I *
**
*voted for an economy that will reward work above guile. I *
**
*voted for everything I believe in. Sure, I filled in the *
**
*circle next to the name Obama, but it wasn't him I was voting *
**
*for -- it was every single one of us, and those I love most

Comment: well, if anybody is interested, here is my two cents on why i voted for Obama. i got a real good look at america after 9/11. we went through a lot of sheeyt! ENRON, TYCO, and a lot of other big name corporations going defunk. i saw big buisnesses going down the drain, people loosing jobs left and right and we really felt it here in GA. Ford Plant closing up and other businesses up and down major street folding up. then came Katrina. a lot of peole perished a lot and still suffering (still puzzled me why louisianna voted for mcslain) and not to mention two freakin wars, then the gas started getting stupid, which made food prices get stupid. all this mess happened in a span of eight freakin years under rethuglican admin. Obama was like a blessing from God. we have hit rock bottom and we couldn't go any lower. to me, Obama instilled in the people a newness of hope. that the audasity of change is with in us to make it happen. and on Nov 4...WE DID! HE GAVE US THE WORDS, "YES WE CAN" AND "YES!" "YES WE DID!" WE ANSWRED BACK!

Comment: AP – President Bush and President-elect Obama walk along the West Wing Colonnade of the White House in Washington, … WASHINGTON – President-elect Obama and President Bush met in the Oval Office Monday, a visit that comes during a historic shifting of power to a new administration.
Obama and his wife, Michelle, arrived at the South Portico 11 minutes early with President Bush and first lady Laura Bush waiting for them. Mrs. Bush and Mrs. Obama enjoyed a warm greeting, while the president and his successor exchanged smiles and a handshake.
Taking a bit of prerogative, the president-elect put his left hand on Bush's back as the two couples entered the Diplomatic Reception Room.
Bush and Obama strolled along the Colonnade and waved for their cameras while their wives began a meeting of their own. The president and the president-elect then headed into the Oval Office to talk about the future of the country, with topics likely including the financial crisis and the war in Iraq.
It was the president-elect's first visit to the White House since his landslide election victory — and his first visit ever to the Oval Office.
The scene was a sunny fall day with moderate temperatures and colorful — but fading — autumn leaves.
Their arrival had the look of a foreign head-of-state state visit — although there were no fife and drum bands, speeches or official pageantry.
Earlier, Obama arrived in Washington, stepped of his plane and was greeted by transition manager John Podesta, the former chief of staff to President Clinton.
Obama climbed into a black limousine with tinted windows, instead of his normal SUV; the limo looked just like the one that the president rides in, without the seal or flags. The entire motorcade was upgraded from campaign mode to presidential-level, with a second identical decoy limousine, a black haz-mat truck, a communications truck and the counter-%*$ault team hanging out the back of an SUV.
Mrs. Bush was to give Mrs. Obama a tour of the first family's living quarters, including the bedrooms used by children of past presidents. White House press secretary Dana Perino said the two women were expected to talk about living in one of the world's most famous building, from family life to the help provided by executive staff.

Comment: The Obamas have two daughters: Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7. Obama started his day in Chicago, dropping the two girls at school, each with a kiss, and then going to a gym for a workout.
Ahead of the meeting, Obama told reporters last week that he was headed to the White House meeting with "a spirit of bipartisanship."
Obama won the presidency in an electoral landslide on Tuesday. He ran a campaign in which he relentlessly linked Republican opponent John McCain to Bush and presented his ideas as a fresh alternative to what he called Bush's failed policies.
Yet the tone changed almost immediately after Obama's win.
Bush, who had endorsed McCain, lauded Obama's victory as a "triumph of the American story." He warmly invited the Obama family to the White House.
Obama, in turn, thanked Bush for being gracious. The president-elect has made clear to the people of the United States and those watching around the world that there is only one president for now, and that's Bush. Obama is in the transition to power but does not assume the presidency until Jan. 20.
Josh Bolten, Bush's chief of staff, said Bush and Obama will likely each have a list of issues to go down.
"I know the president will want to convey to President-elect Obama his sense of how to deal with some of the most important issues of the day," said Bolten, interviewed on C-SPAN by reporters from The Associated Press and The Washington Post. "But exactly how he does that, I don't know, and I don't think anybody will know."

Comment: Unlike the incoming president, Bush knew his way around the Oval Office by the time he was elected in 2000 — his father had been president. Still, like many before them, President Clinton and President-elect Bush had their own private meeting, keeping up a tradition that temporarily puts the presidency above politics.
Obama has been to the White House before, including an emergency leadership session to deal with the financial crisis in September.
But an Obama spokeswoman said the president-elect had never been in the Oval Office.

Comment: NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Circuit City Stores Inc., the No. 2 electronics seller after Best Buy, filed for bankruptcy protection Monday, hoping the move will allow it to stock its shelves in time for the crucial holiday shopping season.
The move comes about a week after Circuit City said it would close 155 stores as it deals with a worsening economic downturn that has left more consumers with less money to shop. The company intends to keep its remaining stores open through the bankruptcy procedings.
Circuit City (CC, Fortune 500) said consumers should continue to shop at its stores."Chapter 11 is not a closing or liquidation," the company said in an e-mail to CNNMoney.com. "We remain committed to doing a better job of taking care of our guests, and making it easier to shop at Circuit City." For anyone that's on the hunt for a sweet deal on a flatscreen TV, Circuit City spokesman Jim Babb said it's "safe to assume" that consumers can expect deep discounts on TVs and other products in those Circuit City stores that are being liquidated.
In the rest of its stores, Babb said the company's prices will remain competitive with the market over the coming weeks.
Circuit City said it is seeking approval from the bankruptcy court to honor customer programs such as returns, exchanges and gift cards."Approval of such programs normally is granted," the company said in the e-mail.The electronics seller said it will still accept credit cards, including Circuit City-branded credit cards, which the company said are not impacted by its bankruptcy.Circuit City also said it will continue to honor its warranty plans, including its Circuit City Advantage Protection Plans.Despite these measures, one industry watcher remained unconvinced that Circuit City could still attract shoppers from here on and especially through the holiday season."Consumers will be skeptical about buying a $1,000 or $2,000 flatscreen TV with a warranty at Circuit City," said Craig Johnson, retail analyst and president of Customer Growth Partners. "In their mind, there's no guarantee that the company will still be around in the future." "Regarding gift cards, if you are buying a $50 gift card for Christmas, where would your comfort level be higher? At a Circuit City or a Best Buy (BBY, Fortune 500)?" Johnson said. The company's bankruptcy filing was also made at a crucial time of the year for merchants who are preparing for the year-end holiday shopping season. The November-December period can account for 50% or more of retailers' annual profits and sales. But this year, many Americans have clamped down on their shopping habits amid a weak economy and a shaky job and credit market.
Industry analysts warn that retailers will have to do whatever they can this year if they hope to have at least decent holiday sales.

They said the only time race was discussed is when outsiders asked them about it. They said from day one he was insistant on what time of campaign he wanted to run and he stuck to it. He said the voters would either accept him or not. They said they feel the one big difference between their campaign versus others was that they didn't have to prep him or persuade him to change his views or outlooks. They said that was time that was not wasted and could be focused on the bigger picture.

Comment: CASSIUS- I have been on this forum for quite some time, and I have never seen either one of you. I lurk alot myself. I was just wondering who you were as I have never seen a comment from you. As for Dragon, I was unfamiliar with him as well, and his question was rather pointed and 'messy'(for lack of a better term). Later he kind of clarified what he meant, but still messy none the less. YELLEY- I LOVE working Downtown! Girl I am all over the place on my lunch hour....lol

Comment: WASHINGTON – Tickets to balls and other events related to the Jan. 20 presidential inauguration will be hard to come by, but you can always join the crowds along the parade route, and Washington tourism officials say it's not impossible to find a place to stay.
Hundreds of thousands of people always gather along Pennsylvania Avenue to watch the procession from the Capitol to the White House after the swearing-in ceremony. You'll likely see marching bands and floats no matter where you stand, but you're not guaranteed a glimpse of the president and his family. Only bleacher seats require tickets.
The Monday holiday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day falls on Jan. 19, the day before the inauguration, which will also add to the crowds.
Be prepared for cold weather. According to Weather Underground's Trip Planner, since 1993, temperatures on Jan. 20 in Washington have run from an average low of 27 to an average high of 39. The temperature dipped below freezing in 11 of the past 16 years, and only once did it go as high as 60.
The official Washington tourism agency, Destination DC, advises that hotels do still have some rooms available, but they require a three to four-night minimum stay and prepayment. If you're trying to book online, entering information for a one- or two-night stay for Jan. 19-20 may not yield results. Destination DC offers online hotel booking at http://reservations.washington.org/953. On some Web sites like Craigslist, individuals are offering space in private apartments and homes.

Comment: The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies prints some 240,000 tickets for official events to be distributed for free through Senate and House offices to constituents, and through the Presidential Inaugural Committee. The official Web site http://inaugural.senate.gov/index.cfm advises that "members of the public interested in attending the Inaugural Ceremonies should contact their Member of Congress or U.S. Senators to request tickets." The committee site also states that "no Web site or other ticket outlet actually has inaugural swearing-in tickets to sell, regardless of what they may claim" and adds that tickets will not be distributed to Congressional offices until the week before the inauguration and will require in-person pick-up.
Fancy parties are a big part of the festivities, and the new president typically drops in on a few of them. Tickets for balls organized by state societies and other private organizations sell out fast, though you may find some tickets to these types of events being resold at higher prices online. The Hawaii State Society reported on its Web site that general tickets were already sold out to its island-themed inaugural ball. In 2001, President Bush and his wife attended the Texas State Society's Black Tie & Boots inaugural ball among others.
The theme of the 2009 inauguration, which is set by the official inaugural committee, is "A New Birth of Freedom," a phrase from the Gettysburg Address, in honor of the 2009 bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln's birth. Victoria Isley, spokeswoman for Destination DC, says that if you can't make it to Washington for the inauguration or can't get tickets to any official ceremonies, you might consider coming back instead for one of the Lincoln Bicentennial events, such as a recreation of Marian Anderson's concert at the Lincoln Memorial, planned for Easter Sunday.
Various Web sites offer information about the inauguration. Destination DC has created a 2009 Presidential Inauguration event on Facebook that anyone with a Facebook account can join. TripAdvisor.com has a forum with all sorts of information. Expedia is also offering booking and advice at http://www.expedia.com/inauguration.

He referenced Little Rock and an showed a clip of an interview Hary Reasoner had with some White protestors who thought that Negroes shouldn't be going to school. He then cut to Obama's election night speech when he was assuring those who did'nt vote for hoim that he would be their President too.....'Yes We Can'.?
