Comment: Well, well - this is the best article on black priorities I've read. While I don't agree with states legislating gay marriage (or even gay marriage, per se), I also don't think we should continue to involve our time and resources on what some choose to do in their personal lives. That includes grown as.s men making decisions on abortions - a decision totally between a woman and her doctor. We can't overrule what has already been said and why we need congress to define marriage as between a man and a woman is beyond me. After having so many focused on the smoke and mirrors of gay marriage instead of what bushit and his cronies were up to - this issue should be left to each individual - its not a world, state or community decision and certainly not something that would unite communities.

Comment: I'm glad it was overturned. We have a amendment against gay marriage as well in Michigan. Like most people, I know individuals and family members that are homosexual. I love them anyway; that's their choice. What I don't agree with, is homosexuuals using gay marriage as a civil rights issue. This is not a civil rights issue, this is a moral issue. God says to love everyone and I can't and won't judge them only God can and will.

Comment: Who gives a shat about two big grown dusty azz men walking down a fuvkin aisle?? I'm so sick of faggies claiming injustice and comparing their nasty azz plight to that of black folks...take your gay azzs over to the middle east or Jaimaica and see how well ya azzs fare.

Comment: I hope Jazmine can explain this to them and especially that nutcase Melissa who don't want to pay taxes who seem to can't realize that it is over and other things such as this economy is on life support is more relevant than gay marriage.

Comment: Gay marriage is an abomination. It's a "curse" that comes from the sin of this world. And for the ones that don't know; They have mapped human DNA 100% they can make you in a petri dish, and they "have not" found a thing called a "gay" gene. So the argument, "I was born this way" is nothing but a lie because there is no gene to make a person become "GAY" So, just like the so-called "bisexual" (Funny how they never mention them in the gay marriage debate, "Should I "choose" to sleep with Cathy or Jim today, or both!) it's all a matter of choice and the person who's making it. I would bet most lesbians are full of misandry anyway. Yes, Jesus loves me Yes, Jesus loves me..........Read the bible lady that's all you need to know about your life.

Comment: The writer touched on something I've always noticed. The white gay community can be just as racist toward black folk as other groups of white people can be. Same thing with white feminist groups. They dont particularly care about black people, but they like to invoke the civil rights movement to further their own cause when it suits them. I've said for ages that white liberal activists can be just as racist toward black folk as some rednecks can be. Black folk better recognize that the ones who'll smile in your face (and depend on your vote) are not necessarily your friends.

Comment: Jasmyne...this is one great piece. The way you artfully (and correctly) connected the dots between the civil rights movement and Christianity was spot on. Outstanding piece.

Comment: LMBAO@DCGG! Girl they would find out they have it real good right here. Gay marriage doesn't exist in strong cultures like jamaica and the middle east - those folk are just looking for someone to put that gas soaked tire around!

Comment: Oh they can be VERY racist. And let's not forget who campaigned hard so that Isaiah Washington would lose his daymned job over at 'Grey's' He apologized fifty frickin' times and that still wasn't enough. But in the end, the gay groups in California were just lazy...period. Barack Obama organized and got his people out to knock on doors and talk to people. That's what the gay groups should have done. Gone and knocked on doors...called people and explained what was on this ballot, what it would mean, etc.. They might have swayed some people. But instead they thought they would ride Barack's coattails. The election of a man of color and gays being unable to marry, are not connected. At least they aren't to me.

Comment: >tinkus, blackgyrl The issue is one of basic human rights. Given all the grief one can receive, it is doubtful that one would choose to be gay. Just as we cannot choose to be hetrosexual. It certain situations we may act against our basic orientation. (ie men, women in jails will sometimes engage in same sex activitie(s) Our constitution protects the minorities from the tyranny of the majority. This is clearly the case with prop 8. Regardless of how you may feel abotut gay people, we as a nation cannot simply put the rights of one group up for a vote. Next we could go after undocumented workers, or women, or elderly. Pretty soon we will get to you!!! When you take away someone's rights your own rights are in jeopardy as well!!!!

Name: ss69054
Comment: The people voted and the result of it was still a no show so that's the end of it right there. People have the right to ban just as they had the right to fight for marriage. They need to get over it and know that the people have spoken. Sorry, it is what it is.

Comment: tinkius, co-sign. People here in California have voted on this twice. And twice we voted against gay marriage. Bottom line, marriage is a holy union between one man and one woman. I agree that in this day and age of knowledge, absolutely nothing has been found by scientist to prove that people are born gave. It is a foul, ungodly spirit from satan. Most people who are gay have, at some point, been molested, which is probably where the spirit was taken on. I don't hate gay people. I hate that gay spirit that has embodied them. Jesus is always in perfect agreement with God the Father and the Father considers homosexuality an abomination. I believe that spirit is put upon an individual not by choice, just like cancer or any deadly disease (in this case spiritual death), but the problem and abomination is when an individual chooses not to get rid of that spirit and rather chooses to embrace, enjoy it and act on it rather than praying for salvation from it. I know that there are others who actually choose gay-life simply because they want to try all kinds of sex. Jesus can deliver from all of this is you ask.

Comment: P.S.: God can not bless and unholy thing, which gay marriage is.

Comment: Great article Jasmyne.

Name: RodEckstein
Comment: In California, many gays are so angry with Blacks that they are vowing to get back at Black because of our overwhelming support of Prop. 8. In the comment section of many of our our news papers, they are planning to take action by not supporting Black businesses, not tipping or under-tipping Black waiters and especially not tipping Black barristas at Starbucks. You should read the racial bashing by gays against Blacks in many of the comments section of news articles on the topic. Unbelieveable.

Comment: Great article by Jazmine. What I find ironic is that no one has mentioned that race/gender based affirmative action has also been banned in California, Colorado, Michigan and I think, Nevada. How come this is not making any headlines???? Hmmmmm.....

Name: Fran
Comment: I generally do not agree with gays, but Jazmine is dead on. I get so furious when I hear the gays say "blacks of all people should understand where we come from." Um just like I dont know where a pedophile, R. Kelly, kissing cousins, and other unnatural sexual perversions, I dont understand where you come from. Moreover, who cares what I think. Ride on your movement. I am so sick of women, other minorities, riding on the sixties movement of AFRICAN-Americans! Blacks were getting shot, and beaten, RIDE ON YOUR OWN STRUGGLE. Then get Jesus. Anyway, Jazmine good article.

Name: ladybyrd
Comment: I have no problems with gays and I believe they should live the way that they want. Now with that said, I don't need to vote on their life style. The difference between Blacks & Gays is that Blacks were just trying to live.
