Comment: rapper Bump J has been arrested on bank robbery charges.
Bump J, whose real name is Terrance Boykin, was the subject of a national manhunt after a grand jury indicted him in September on bank robbery and gun charges.
Police in Carbondale arrested Boykin, 28, earlier this week after a routine traffic stop. His last known address was in the South Loop.
Boykin is accused of holding up a Chase Bank in Oak Park on Jan. 4, 2007. He and an unnamed man allegedly made off with $100,000, according to the FBI.
Boykin faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
His Kanye West-produced "Move Around" has been featured in a McDonald's commercial and in the "Madden NFL 06" video game.

Comment: NEW YORK – Italian con man Raffaello Follieri, who went from dating actress Anne Hathaway to serving a prison term for fraud, isn't enjoying the "unspeakably unsanitary" conditions at a federal jail in Brooklyn.
Follieri's lawyer sent a letter to a judge this week complaining about the facility.
"Mr. Follieri reports that he is in a windowless dormitory with approximately 120 other men," the letter said. "He says that he cannot eat because the food appears to be spoiled and that the toilet and shower facilities are unspeakably unsanitary. e.g., there is excrement in the shower and rats are roaming freely in the area. He says the stench is intolerable."
The lawyer, Flora Edwards, said things are so bad, it has made Follieri ill. So far he has had a fever, blood in his urine, intestinal problems and shortness of breath.
Edwards asked the judge to have the 30-year-old transferred back to the federal jail in Manhattan where he was previously held.
The judge asked the government to look into Follieri's complaints.
Follieri was sentenced to 4 1/2 years in prison in October. He pleaded guilty to cheating investors out of millions of dollars by falsely claiming he had Vatican connections that enabled him to buy church property at a discount.
The proceeds supported a playboy lifestyle that included a $37,000-a-month Manhattan apartment and lavish vacations with Hathaway. The couple dated for four years.

Comment: LONDON — Kanye West is to music what Michael Jordan was to basketball — at least that's what West thinks, in his humble estimation.
''I realize that my place and position in history is that I will go down as the voice of this generation, of this decade, I will be the loudest voice,'' he said in an interview on Wednesday. ''It's me settling into that position of just really accepting that it's one thing to say you want to do it and it's another thing to really end up being like Michael Jordan.''
Kanye says mom a victim of his success Twitter: Kanye says he doesn't deserve award
The Grammy-winning rapper-producer said Justin Timberlake had a chance to be music's MVP, but hasn't put out enough material. (Timberlake's last album was in 2006, while West released a CD last year and is releasing his latest — ''808s and Heartbreak'' — on Nov. 24.)
''There were people who had the potential to do it but they went on vacation, so when Justin went on vacation I made albums,'' he said. ''And it just came out to be that.''
West, 31, said life has been difficult since his mother's death. Donda West died last November after having plastic surgery.
''I'm just going through balancing that. And I always used to have that support system, you know. My mom would be there; no matter what, she was there before everything,'' he said. ''We were together for like 30 years. And you know now when I'm on that stage and I look out and I say, 'What am I going to do with the rest of my life?' Like when does a real life start?' Because I have sacrificed real life to be a celebrity and to give this art to people, which is great. It is great that I was able to do that, I'm not trying to shun that in any way, but it's definitely a Catch-22 and it's bittersweet.''

Comment: Police say a 15-year-old Lincoln Park High School sophomore who went missing from her Northwest Side home for two days took a bus ride by herself to Indianapolis, Ind., and left Chicago on her own accord.
Tisha Muentes left her home in the 5000 block of West Wolfram Street about 7 a.m. Monday and was on her way to Lincoln Park High School at 2001 N. Orchard St. on a CTA bus, but never made it to school, according to a missing person alert from Grand Central Area detectives.
But Grand Central Area detectives said the girl called her father just after 9 p.m. Wednesday to let him know she had returned. Two detectives went to the family's home Wednesday night to interview the girl, who "looked well," police said.
Police early Thursday said Muentes "felt she needed to get away for a while'' for personal reasons and had saved up the money to take a bus ride, eventually arriving in Indianapolis, Ind.
"She seemed mentally stable and healthy,'' according to a detective who interviewed her in person and said foul play is not suspected in the incident, which he called a voluntary absence.
"I asked her if she was meeting anybody in Indiana and she replied no,'' the detective said.
Police believe it was the first time she had ever been missing and no charges will be brought against her.
"It was a happy ending so that's the important thing,'' the detective said.
Muentes did make contact with "known acquaintances" since she was reported missing, police said.
Family members and friends were out Tuesday night in the Lincoln Park neighborhood handing out flyers, posting flyers on streetlights and asking passersby to look out for her.
Muentes is the daughter of a Chicago firefighter and many firefighters joined the effort to find her. Prior to her return, a $10,000 reward was also offered for information leading to the girl's whereabouts.

Comment: For $100 and a copy of your fingerprints, U.S. citizens flying from abroad into O'Hare International Airport can skip passport-checking lines and proceed almost directly to baggage claim.
The Global Entry program, unveiled at O'Hare last month by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, is designed to let travelers get through the airport faster but also affords a key benefit for the Department of Homeland Security: It makes it easier to track who is coming into the country.
Global Entry has been rolled out this year at seven of the nation's busiest airports. The number will be expanded to 20 within the next year. The nearly 5,000 people who have enrolled nationally are able to pass through security at automated kiosks instead of standing in sometimes painfully long lines to have their passports stamped. The process at the kiosk takes about a minute and involves having your photo taken, letting both index fingers be read on a scanner and answering a few questions on a computer screen. Passports are not stamped for people in Global Entry, and customs declarations are done on the kiosk screen.
"The goal is obviously to make things faster," said David Murphy, director of field operations for U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Chicago.
Only travelers deemed "low risk" are eligible, he said, and must undergo background checks. Any criminal conviction—even misdemeanors—is grounds for rejection. The $100 fee is good for five years.
In the first month of the program at O'Hare, more than 50 people have used the kiosks stamped with the Department of Homeland Security logo. Officials expect the number to increase dramatically, particularly among business travelers.

Like many in this troubled economy, Shirley Forte has wallet issues. But atypically, she wants to get them into more hands.
And Salem Baptist Church is working to help her -- as well as other entrepreneurs pushing products and services at a black business expo and career fair Saturday. The event, running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the House of Hope, 752 E. 114th, is designed to showcase the wares of graduates of Salem's ARISE Entrepreneur Program.
Forte's Personally-Me line of stylish wallets discreetly hold panty liners, a calendar and tampons. The $15 wallets (Personally-mewalletpouch.com) even have places to stash other essential items.
About 150 students were in the 2008 ARISE class. They graduated from the six-week training program Monday.
Mellody Hobson, president of Ariel Investments Inc., is guest speaker this year.
Admission to the program, which the church says is the largest annual expo featuring black-owned business in the area, is free.

Comment: Sactown, I saw your post ^ there about the DJ position...All I can say is that we're going to have to do this thing like in the movie "Juice" and have a showdown. You bring your BEST six songs and I'll bring mine and then make a mixtape...and let's have them judged by a non-partisan member or group. Whoever gets the most thumbs up claims the title, gets the bragging rights and also gets crowned as "THE OFFICIAL DJ". Whoever loses has to take a picture holding a Vanilla Ice LP and post it to the EUR family photo album. The gauntlet has been thrown down...game on?

I was up at 1am reading the board. Shortey, congrats on your 1 year anniversary. Seem like yesterday you were talking about your new man. Asize, I wouldn't stress to hard about PD's ACT score. They really determine if you will be afford a scholarship from the school and if you have to take a pre-course like pre-algebra instead of college algebra the first year. If she's not trying to get into a Ivy League school, I wouldn't let the score get me down.

My favorite little gay asian salesboy was like "you were just here girl, what do you need now". I showed him exactly what I needed and I spent about 100 bucks at Banana, then only about 30 at Gap. I'm about to get up and go to the Gap outlet and buy sweaters for all the kids on my list and then I'm gonna go to Banana @ Town Center and see if I can find some more stuff for me. I love 30% off!!!! Thank you again!! This is gonna be a good weekend! Tomorrow I'll go to Oak Park and then I'll end Sunday with online purchases! Did I say that I love 30% off??!!

I'm not sure if it's the economy or the fact that I went at about 1:30 on a Thursday but there were only a handful of people in Banana. I bought some black cuffed trousers at Gap (like I really need another pair) for $30 (down from 69). There were a few sweaters I liked but I wasn't in a sweater mood yesterday... came home and thought about it and I think I need them. There are a couple of dresses I need to order from banana online. I'm ready to spend money this weekend! he shouldn't have left me here by myself this weekend (technically, he hasn't left yet but he's leaving in a few hours and not coming back until tomorrow night). Hmmm, I hadn't even thought about shopping for him. Maybe I'll buy him something too.

The houses where dilapidated and sad, the people were scrungy and the streets were raggedy as f*ck and littered with trash. When I finally found a street I knew, the highway exit was closed so I got lost again. I called my man at work talking about 'I'm lost in KCMO and feel like they're trying to hold me hostage... please tell me how to get back to Kansas.' He talked me through it but I swear I'm not coming back to KCMO any time soon!! I know how to get to the Plaza and back home and I know how to get to work and back home. One of my co-workers has a son that just graduated in '08 and he too was an honor roll student and like PD, planned on majoring in Engineering. He too took the test 3x and didn't score so hot and she had him in those ACT classes and he STILL didn't do too well. So, he decided not to go away to school...he got a full ride engineering scholarship to a local community college. He's gonna go there for 2 years then transfer to a Univ. I see absolutely nothing wrong with that. He's doing really well too...

Comment: JUICE>yes, Gene Tierny is a good actress. Dragonwyck. humm...sounds good. what is it about? I love me some Vincent Price. actually when he first started out, he played some comedic rolls. one of my favorites and if you ever get this on DVD get it, you love it if you love the classic movies. it's this movie called "His Kind of Woman" with Jane Russell and Robert Mitchum and Raymond Burr who plays the bad guy. and there was this scene where Vincent Price plays this overly dramatic actor who thinks he's washed up. he tries to help out Robert Mitchum rescue Jane, so he gets in this boat with some other folk and he pretends he's George Washington crossing the patomic. well, as he is standing in front of the boat trying to look all brave, the dayum boat sinks! it is hilarious to see! lol! you got to see it! good movie!!

Comment: Nothing wrong with community college. Like DJ said it is a means to an end for some. Asize please tell PD to calm down. I am concerned. Tell her it is going to be okay. That score is just part of the equation, not the mitigating factor in the decision. I know of a girl who was so caught up in all this type of stuff and expectation that when she got to Vanderbilt our freshman year, she ended up flipping out. As a matter of fact a couple of students (black) flipped their wigs that year. to be completely honest, the girl ended up having a chemical inbalance but I am convinced that all the pressure she put herself under precipated her flipping out and having to miss the rest of the first semester. She did come back the next semester but she was stigmatized the rest of her college career. The other black guy flipped out and pulled a knife out on his roommate like the 2nd week of school. Back to the girl, I remember the first week of school for freshman is a time to get to know each other and go to activities, this girl was in her room plotting our her schedule etc.

His wife was not amused, and decided that she simply couldn't let such a comment go unrewarded.
The next morning the husband took a pair of underwear out of his drawer. 'What the Hell is this?' he said to himself as a little 'dust' cloud appeared when he shook them out.
'April', he hollered into the bathroom, 'Why did you put Talcum Powder in my underwear?'
She replied with a snicker. 'It's not talcum powder; it's 'Miracle Grow'!!!!!!

As she watches the dark secrets of the house unfold, she becomes more aware of selfishness, desire, and insanity while becoming more involved with Nicholas. The closer Miranda grows to the community and the Van Ryan's, the more she wishes she had never come to Dragonwyck.

Comment: "PETA, Need To Sit Down Somewhere"PETA Wants Higher Insurance Premiums For Meat Eaters. In a letter sent Monday to Bill Milnes Jr., president of Blue Cross Blue Shield Of Vermont, PETA's Executive Director Tracy Reiman urged Blue Cross to raise rates on meat eaters because -- she claims -- heart disease, diabetes and other leading killer diseases have been conclusively linked to the consumption of meat and other animal products.Given the latest news about the effects of E. coli on meat-eaters -- and the mountain of evidence linking meat consumption to some of our nation's deadliest diseases -- this change will benefit Blue Cross Blue Shield's bottom line while also helping to ensure that your policyholders don't flat line," Reiman wrote.Reiman went on to point to recent reports of an E. coli outbreak in Vermont. In October a Vermont slaughterhouse recalled a ton of ground beef after 10 cases of E. coli were traced to meat from Vermont Livestock Slaughter & Processing in Ferrisburg. The recall was voluntary.
Earlier in the month, three people were diagnosed with E. Coli in Orleans County. Health officials attributed those cases to raw milk as the source.
"As you might know, E. Coli grows in the intestines of many farmed animals. Slaughterhouses are filthy places, and when animals are eviscerated, feces often spray in every direction," Reiman wrote. She goes on to claim that vegetarians are less prone to heart disease, certain types of cancer, diabetes and obesity. "By giving your policy holders a financial incentive to go vegetarian -- and penalizing those whose meat-based diets fuel our nation's worst health problems -- Blue Cross Blue Shield could save millions of dollars in the long run," Reiman writes. But it doesn't appear that Blue Cross will be taking PETA's suggestion any time soon.

I dont think they should be able to get married b/c like you I believe that marriage is between one man and one woman period. Two people who shack up, live in sin on a long term basis whatever you want to call it should be able to be covered by their partner's insurance, should be able to make medical and legal decisions on behalf of the other. It is obvious this is their intention and family members should not be able to come in and say otherwise. That is just common sense. I dont see the moral and civil clash in this argument.

You have to factor in environment, experiences, EDUCATION, exposure and the list goes on. All of these will affect someone's interpretation of scriptures. It is all about Christ for me and not the pastor. I think so many people are searching for something or in need of something they subconsciously meld God and the pastor into one being. You have to be a critical thinker and read things for yourself and get your own understanding.

Comment: Marriage, socially recognized and approved union between individuals, who commit to one another with the expectation of a stable and lasting intimate relationship. It begins with a ceremony known as a wedding, which formally unites the marriage partners. A marital relationship usually involves some kind of contract, either written or specified by tradition, which defines the partners’ rights and obligations to each other, to any children they may have, and to their relatives. In most contemporary industrialized societies, marriage is certified by the government.
In addition to being a personal relationship between two people, marriage is one of society’s most important and basic institutions. Marriage and family serve as tools for ensuring social reproduction. Social reproduction includes providing food, clothing, and shelter for family members; raising and socializing children; and caring for the sick and elderly. In families and societies in which wealth, property, or a hereditary title is to be passed on from one generation to the next, inheritance and the production of legitimate heirs are a prime concern in marriage. However, in contemporary industrialized societies, marriage functions less as a social institution and more as a source of intimacy for the individuals involved.

Comment: Marriage is commonly defined as a partnership between two members of opposite sex known as husband and wife. However, scholars who study human culture and society disagree on whether marriage can be universally defined. The usual roles and responsibilities of the husband and wife include living together, having sexual relations only with one another, sharing economic resources, and being recognized as the parents of their children. However, unconventional forms of marriage that do not include these elements do exist. For example, scholars have studied several cultural groups in Africa and India in which husbands and wives do not live together. Instead, each spouse remains in his or her original home, and the husband is a “visitor” with sexual rights. Committed relationships between homosexuals (individuals with a sexual orientation toward people of the same sex) also challenge conventional definitions of marriage.
Debates over the definition of marriage illustrate its dual nature as both a public institution and a private, personal relationship. On the one hand, marriage involves an emotional and sexual relationship between particular human beings. At the same time, marriage is an institution that transcends the particular individuals involved in it and unites two families. In some cultures, marriage connects two families in a complicated set of property exchanges involving land, labor, and other resources. The extended family and society also share an interest in any children the couple may have. Furthermore, the legal and religious definitions of marriage and the laws that surround it usually represent the symbolic expression of core cultural norms (informal behavioral guidelines) and values.

Comment: I think politics has muddied the issue of gay marriage. The rhetoric spewed by the religious right has got yall thinking that heterosexual marriage is on the wane and in danger of extinction. Pardon the term, but gays will continue to practice their lifestyle all the same regardless of whether or not gay marriage is legalized / criminalized. Legislating morality should never have crept into the purview of politics and only did so when the Republicans found themselves losing political ground in the 60s and needed to find something for the people to vote them into office. (Sound familiar, folks? Something like the national issue being voted on back in 2004 when the country was continuing to be bled dry by war and hedge fund managers and the subprime mortgage lending market?) As far as I'm concerned, all voting yes on Prop 8 did was create more animosity and a reason for more people to hate black and brown people because a majority of them voted yes on Prop 8.

Comment: Ylawdy I get what you are saying. I guess what they are being denied is a title and possibly crappy social security benefits which wont be there anyway. In California where all this brouhaha is occuring, the gay couples and other domestic partners already have all the rights and priviledges that married couples have anyway. So their argument is about a title and they want to force people to accept them and their lifestyle. I dont have to accept your lifestyle I just cant discriminate against you because of it. Ultimately you are right this is between them and their god, but I dont have to vote yes on it. If it ever does pass, then it passes, but if it doesn't, Pass the couvoisier!!!!!(just kidding)

Comment: Now let's keep it real though. Let it not be said that I don't find gays' comparison of their struggle to earn equality in marriage rights to blacks' struggle for equality in civil rights to be EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE. All I have to do is think about Isaiah Washington, and while he was a dumba$s, I found it very telling about the power structure in Hollywood where gay gets preferential treatment over black. Jasmyne Cannick, a black lesbian journalist / blogger, has said on several occasions how the gay movement at large pays about as much attention to gays of color as society and the government pays to people of color, i.e. the gay rights movement is mainly white, affluent professionals who care nothing of the struggles of the gay everyman who has economic and ethnic and racial struggles stacked on deck. Even with all the hoops and fire Isaiah Washington jumped through to do his penance and show his remorse, Shonda Rhimes was apparently given no choice other than to show him the door and write him right out of Seattle Grace.
And let us not forget about protests on the passing of Prop 8 in Westwood, California, where gay blacks were walking by and treated to racist epithets hurled by gay whites.

Comment: Neverland Ranch Not MJ's Anymore
Michael Jackson has given up title to his Neverland ranch, transferring the deed to a company he partly controls.
The singer filed a grant deed on the ranch Monday that makes the new owner an entity called the Sycamore Valley Ranch Co. LLC, Tom Pearson of the Santa Barbara County clerk-recorder's office said Wednesday.
Sycamore Valley Ranch Co. is a joint venture between Jackson and an affiliate of Colony Capital LLC, according to a person with knowledge of the transaction who was not authorized to speak on the record and requested anonymity.
The person could not say what would become of the 2,500-acre property in the bucolic, oak-studded hills of Santa Barbara County's wine country, 120 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

Comment: And to be honest, if the issue of marriage is up for legal debate, why is it wrong for a justice of the peace to perform a ceremony that will make a couple a married couple in the eyes of the LAW as opposed to the eyes of the church or God? Justice of the peace is a strictly governmental / legal ceremony. Yes, we mix church and state by having witnesses and elected officials take oaths on a holy book, but marriage can be defined as just the legal ceremony. If a religious oficiant wishes to perform a religious ceremony signifying the bond between two people, why would you care about that? Would your pastor do that? Would you go to a church where that was allowed? Then what's the point?

I know the arguments that have been made, but I also think that if religion, faith, or whatever is part of you, then it is going to affect the state. If I am a legislator who is a hypocritial southern baptist, how could that no affect the decisions I make and they way I vote. If you vote the way your constituents want, and your constituency is washed in the blood of the lamb, then that affects the state as well. To me it is all semantics.

Comparing the two trivializes the very real sacrifices made by black people. You can look at me and know that I'm black. No one has to know you're gay unless you choose for them to know it.

(Abnormal is a harsh word but cant think of a more pleasing one) Male and female parts fit together. A woman's body is made to recieve a man. It fits unless a stomach gets in the way. They come together and can produce life. Two males come together and produce a busted anus. To women come together and produce friction maybe.

My church doesn't support homosexuality, and my pastor preaches/teaches that opposite sexes are supposed to be together. I don't support domestic partnerships, gay marriage or civil unions. Comment: Juice - There is a moral and civil clash to me. The civil decisions (domestic partnerships, civil unions) don't line up with my moral beliefs. What's the difference between civil unions and gay marriage? In either case the gay couple is recognized as being in a committed relationship, and has legal rights. Shouldn't heterosexual couples be able to have civil unions instead of marriage, so the long-term boyfriend/girlfriend can make legal decisions, get on their partner's benefits, etc.? Because my religious interpretation is that fornication and homosexuality are not condoned in the Bible, shacking up and gay marriage are no different. How ironic that hetero marriage is not valued as much in today's society, while gays want to get married. And some gay couples are more committed and stay together longer than hetero couples. Interesting times we live in.

Comment: So often we look at the world without really seeing it. We go about our daily life without noticing those around us who may be hurting. But what would happen if we began to really see the people around us? To see their hurt and joy and pain? We would be seeing with God’s eyes.
When you begin to look at people the way that God does, you see that we are all hurt, broken, and in need of love. You begin to see the real needs around you. And when you are looking with God’s eyes, you feel compelled to help. You may not be able to help everyone, but you can certainly help someone. You may not have money, but you might have time, stuff, or skills. Ask God to show you the world through his eyes and to teach you how you can begin to help his people.
Matthew 25:35-40
For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me. Then these righteous ones will reply, “Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?” And the King will say, “I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!”

Comment: Breaking The Silence: Fulfilling the Promise by Marimba Ani (One of Our Elders) Author of Yurugu......
Amura Onaa tells us that when our Ancestors were being torn apart from each other, we looked into each other’s eyes and made a solemn promise. We promised to reconnect with each other so that this tearing apart would never happen again. It is the Afrikan belief that we are our Ancestors reborn, and through this spiritual rebirth, we gain eternal life. The promise could only be fulfilled by future generations returning as Afrikans who had made this sacred promise to each other. What our Ancestors suffered over centuries, could only have been survived because they had hope.....
But what could possibly have given them cause for hope? If they had not survived and bore children who bore children who bore children, we would not be here. It is the Afrikan belief that we choose to be born when we are in the spirit world, and that we make a contract to fulfill a purpose in this life. All of this can only mean that we have chosen to be born Afrikan and that we are the hope of our Ancestors. Our purpose on this earth is to avenge our Ancestors and to achieve the victory: Afrikan sovereignty through a Pan-Afrikan world order based on the principles of MAAT. It is our choice to fulfill The Promise to our Ancestors by achieving the victory denied them......
It is now Tuesday, November 4, 2008. Is this the final act of assimilation, accommodation, and integration? Is this how we are fulfilling our promise to the Ancestors? Has America made restitution for what was done to them, still being done to us? Is the Maafa over or has it merely morphed into another, more insidious form of genocide? Are we now experiencing a life-threatening condition of cultural AIDS in which our immune system has turned on itself? Has the Yurugu virus mutated so that it looks like us? Are we participating in our own self-destruction?.....
We are witnessing a time of the most blatant acts of genocide such as “Katrina” (Maafa - 2005), in which thousands of our people were slaughtered, left to die, placed in disease-producing holding pens, forcibly relocated, separated from their families and support-systems, and their (our) children “lost”, all this for the purpose of corporate profit and for the illegal misappropriation of land.....
In our time, Afrikan mothers are being incarcerated in increasing numbers, so that their presence in the u.s. prison system almost equals that of Afrikan men and fathers, who have, for more than a century, been sacrificed to the prison-industrial complex.....

Comment: We are living in the time of Blackwater, mercenaries used by government and corporations. We are living in the time of American support of European Hegemony taken to the most extreme levels ever in history. We watch as America’s bank, the so-called “world bank,” sucks the life out of Afrika, Jamaica and other Black nations. We are living in the time of the IMF, the Federal Reserve, the Trilateral Commission, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Bilderbergers and more.
The Patriot Act is an updated McCarran Act of 1950. We are living in a time that can be understood as part of “the process of Fascism”. Fascism creates a demon, sells this demonization to the public, then uses it to control (intimidate, detain, torture, kill) anyone who challenges the state’s abuse of human rights. In the l950’s the demons were the “subversives,” and the “communists” ´throughout the “cold war,” in 1968, following the %*$assination of Dr. King, the demons were those suspected of being “guerrillas”, and by 2001 the term “terrorists” had been accepted as describing the new “demons.” Should we allow the original, the real terrorists to define “terrorism” ?
This brief statement is only meant to point to the reality of the times in which we live, the political legacy that we have inherited as “americans,” and what we need to be aware of at this “historic” moment. In the 1960’s, our people were regarded by the rest of the world as leaders in the struggle for human rights as we fought to expose and confront the genocidal policies perpetrated by the american government towards Afrikan people in the u.s.

Comment: What's the point of a civil union, when you can designate via medical power of attorney, wills, etc. who you want to make decisions for you? Juicy - I agree about not agreeing with 100% of what the pastor says and not being "sheeple" (excellent word, Misscharli). People kill me with, "My pastor said this, my pastor said that." What do YOU say? The Bible says to "study to show thyself approved". For me, one of the purposes of the church is to as-sist me with understanding the Bible. However, the bottom line is for me to consult with God to get my own understanding.

Comment: We stopped organizing. We stopped confronting “the system.” We became part of “the system.” We sent our sons to fight for u.s. monetary gain. We did not see value in self-determination, self-definition, and self-reliance for our people. Those who were politically conscious read and talked about ancient history. We no longer concerned ourselves with contemporary events, systems, or political realities. Instead of expanding our movement to become a world movement, a truly Pan-Afrikan movement, we were content to become “individuals” in the “greatest” (most materially powerful) country in the world.
So now we are “making history” by being swept up in someone else’s definition of what history is. We are “making history,” by capitulating to integration, accommodation, and assimilation. We have reached the mountain top, for we have been able to vote for a “first to.” The struggle is over. We have won. We can proudly say that one of our people represents the most repressive, destructive, inhumane, anti-Afrikan nation ever to have existed! We are proud to be part of a multinational corporate structure run by sociopathic adolescents who think nothing of stealing from their own people. (Imagine what they will do to us.)
We say that we vote because our Ancestors died to get the vote. Yes, if you decide to vote, that is your “right.” Do not, however, blame it on “the Ancestors.” That’s like saying Black people died to go to school with white people, so I will make sure that my children go to white schools. I have a personal experience of that Movement. Registering to vote in Mississippi was a means of confronting a system of oppression head on. Today we vote toavoid confrontation with a system that is Fascist. In Mississippi, attempting to register, meant putting your life on the line, if you were Black. This effort became part of a strategy to expose the system of oppression that existed in this country, which continues to exist even though we, Black people, can now “vote” (even in Mississippi). No, that is not what our Ancestors died for. They died to fulfill The Promise. And that is the question that we should raise. “What are we doing to fulfill The Promise?”

Comment: Is this occasion “historic” because it represents the abandonment of our sacred obligation to the Ancestors? Will we go down in “his” story as having finally capitulated and become satisfied with the evil that is represented in contemporary globalization, privatization and international capitalism? Have we aborted our movement for freedom, liberation and sovereignty? Or have we merely redefined that objective in “american” individualistic, “what’s in it for me” terms? Have we now “won”? Or have we simply taken the easier road, finding it more comfortable to be colonized than to fight for liberation? Are we excited about the possibility of being closer to power than we have ever been beforeS, even though that power rests on the exploitation, even murder, of Afrikans and other non-Europeans throughout the world? Have we even dared to ask ourselves “what kind of person wouldwant to be president of the United States of America?”
What is the significance of this moment, Tuesday, November 4, 2008, in “our” story?
Let us make this a time for re%*$essment of our lives, each of us. Let us reconnect with each other in ways that will help our people to become self-sustaining. Let us read and study and become aware of what this country stands for in the world. Let us teach and learn about the monetary system.
Organize, Organize, Organize!

Ye without sin cast the first stone, blah, blah, blah...it all comes down to majority rules. What's good for the majority is is what rules over the land. There will always be pockets of disillusioned tribes questioning authority...there has to be a limitation somewhere, although everyone might not agree at what point or level it should stop at. Comment: Some hetero people enter into marriage more lightly than gays enter into civil unions. YLawdY - Comment: "Whether or not, i agree w/ the morality of their decision doesn't mean that their rights should be limited." What rights are we talking about? As I mentioned ^^ you can prepare a power of attorney, will, etc. and give anyone the authority to make decisions for you or inherit your property. However, state laws set certain legal rights for married couples, like in common law states a spouse automatically gets 50%. Shacked-up hetero couples and gay couples aren't married, so this wouldn't apply to them.

Mostly because you can hide the fact that you are gay; you can't hide being Black. /Juicy - What is "MO"? /khufu - My grandmother got married at 14, I think she was pregnant because my aunt was born 7 months later, big and healthy. My grandfather was 17. I couldn't imagine a 14 or 17-year-old getting married today. Oh, except Bristol Palin and her baby-daddy. Now that Sarah lost, I'm taking odds on how likely a wedding is going to occur. /HHCassius - Good point, marriage is primarily a legal (i.e. civil) event. Whether or not a church/mosque/synagogue is involved, the marriage ain't recognized legally unless a marriage license is filed at the county.

Comment: I got some good gossip from Survivor Sucks this morning about The Real Housewives of Atlanta's Kim Zolciak. Who knows if it is true or not? Seems plausible to me....
"Turns out Kim really is 30.
Geez, she's only 30 years old yet she looks ten years older. Guess that must be because of all the cigarettes and booze she does. Am I remembering right, when Miss Jan asked about Kim's smoking habit, didn't she say she smokes 2 packs a day? Wow. Two PACKs. That's a helluva lot of cigarettes in one day.
I found a divorce record for "Kimberleigh Zolciak" from Dan Toce. Dan and Kimberleigh were divorced in 2003 (the initial divorce papers were filed in 2001). Additional records are available if you go to the court house.
At another website a "reader" says Kim's ex is Daniel Toce (who, according to the reader, is 70 years old and a multimillionare). The reader goes on to say that the poor bastard pays Kim $30k per month for child support for both kids plus she gets $250k per year for alimony. Hope that's not true. They couldn't have been married all that long. Hell, the divorce proceedings probably lasted longer than the "marriage".
She had an affair with a Sgt. in the Windsor Locks, CT police department at the age of 17 which resulted in him being fired. There are several articles in the archives of The Hartford Courant, but you have to pay to get them.
I feel bad for her daughters."

Its been raining for 2 days already though and its starting to depress a sista! I hear you on the economy thing. That is really what matters to me today as my chips aren't taking me as far as they used to 12 short months ago - someting is wrong with that to me. As far as the Prop 8 thing goes. Whether we agree with the lifestyle or not, homosexuality is not new, has always been around and is not going anywhere. With that said, I don't have a problem with homosexual couples entering into civil unions ANd receiving the same benefits as married couples. If they have a loved one in an accident and it was necessary for someone to sign the paper consenting to surgery or something like that, they want to be able to do that like married couples do. If they work for an employer, they want to be able to put their life partner on their health insurance coverage. They want to be able to recognize their union, period. So, if they are okay with that, so am I. I see no harm in that. I'm not getting into whether its a sin or if this sin is larger than any others, b/c it is not for me to judge them. That is between them and God.

Comment: Ame, come again because I'm not sold on that 'born gay' argument. IMO it's a learned behavior. As far as the struggle, I agree with that. I've never seen a 'gay' water fountain or witnessed 'gay' people having to sit on the back of a bus. Their plight is based on a behavior or a social norm. If necessary they could swicth it up and stay in the closet. Our plight was about our race and we can't shed our skin...over the past twenty years or so I've seen the tolerance level for their lifestyle creep more and more into our everyday lives. Back in the 80's you didn't see all this TV programming with all this attention to that community. Now, it's as if reality isn't reality TV unless you have the 'gay' community represented. That took time to eveolve and 20 years from now? I dunno, y'all do the mathematics. >Khufu, my point is...when in Rome, do as the Romans do. I've traveled extensively around this planet and I've seen the good, the bad and the downright ugly. There are nations that will stone a 13 year old girl to death for being raped...yet, this nation is arguing about gay marriage? I'm all about perspective and reality. Like I said earlier, I have my own personal convictions but I don't feel a sense of urgency to force it on anyone else. Just don't bring any foolishness to me and my family and I won't bring any to anyone else. Don't start none, won't be none. My focus is simple...Give me my check, get out my face, stay out my business and have a nice day...that's real talk. If you live a different lifestyle and you believe this or that, whatever. When it's all said and done I'll let judgement day take care of that.

Now, I have no problem with that, considering that I've spent the bulk of my career in retail, and all you find in retail are geigh guys, ugly ball breaker women and Barbie dolls who will sleep their way to the top. Anyhoo, he prefaced the thing by saying that he wasn't interested in the nuts and bolts of my experience although he was mighty impressed. What he was concerned about was my personality and how I would fit in with this brand new department they're creating. Well, I believe it went well, but he's one of those folks that you can't read 100%. I say that, and I also thought the same thing about the first interview on Monday. At any rate, interview wrapped (before I met with geigh guy, I spoke with potential boss lady) and spoke again with boss lady, who shared that she would complete all second round interviews and I would hear from them one way or another by Thanksgiving. That's when HR would have me to fill out forms for background checks, etc.. When I left, she was on her way to confer with geigh guy. So, basically, it's in God's Hands. Get to praying, y'all.

Comment: For example, I have a lesbian cousin who was heterosexual but was raped repeatedly by her step brothers at from 13 to 15 years of age before she told her Mama and she and her Mama pressed charges and kicked rocks. After that point though, despite counseling, she never really felt comfortable in that way towards men. So she became a lesbian and has been good ever since. On the other hand, I have a guy cousin who is homosexual and although he hid it quite well when his Mom and Dad were still alive, there was always something about him that leaned a little more toward the "girlie" side and we all knew it. He said later on after his parents passed that he ALWAYS knew he was gay as when he was little, he felt like a girl trapped in a little boy's body. He's not flamboyant or over the top with it, but he is who he is and he offers no more apologies about it. Our family loves them both the same as they are good people when it comes down to it.....

Comment: khufu - Preaching about what's wrong does not require hatred. Like crenee said, you can disagree with the sin while loving the sinner. Everyone should be treated with love and respect, that's what Christian behavior is to me.

Kanye West was arrested after an alleged %*$ault outside a U.K. nightclub, but was released without charge, according to British press reports.
The 31-year-old artist was detained in the early hours of this morning (Nov. 14) after an incident involving a paparazzi photographer.
The incident took place outside the Tup Tup Palace club in Newcastle, north-east England, after West's performance at Newcastle Arena last night.
He is currently on his "Glow in the Dark" U.K. tour that continues at the Birmingham NEC tomorrow (Nov. 15), Glasgow SECC (Nov. 16), and the Manchester Evening News Arena on Nov. 17.
A spokesperson at Mercury Records, which releases West's recordings in the United Kingdom, tells Billboard.com that the label is issuing no statement.
The alleged U.K. fracas comes shortly after the star was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport last month when he was filmed struggling with photographers. No charges were brought over that incident.

Comment: Father we thank you for your favor with the hiring manager and any personnel in MC's interviewing process. We thank you for blessing her with this job. We thank you that this job is just a resource but you are the ultimate source. May there be no lack in her life, may she prosper in this job and may this job prosper because of her relationship with you. May all that is needed for and in this job come in alignment right now. Stay the hand of the enemy from her life, her family and from this job in Jesus name. Amen.

Comment: Limlocc, Idk anyone in my fam that is gay but statistically speaking there has to be. I am going to love my family member regardless of their sexual orientation. I dont have anything against gay people. I dont judge them either because I do believe that all sins are equal and God is no respecter of persons, so I need to be concerned with my own shiggidy. I am of the opinion as long as you are not molesting children and abusing people, your life is on you.

Comment: Its like summer outside!! Bout to head out. MC>> Yayy sounds like your interview went well. I'm still praying for you till you say you have the gig. Last thing about gays. People talk about it being learned but I know a bunch of straight men who are totally straight raised by only women in the household. One of my moms teachers is this big ol rough man whose 10 yr old is the biggest battyman I've ever seen. That lil boy been acting gay since he was a baby and I used to babysit him. His dad is p!ssed but where he does his best to make him "man up" I wanna just tell him to let it go your son is gay but he would probably kill me. LOL Have a good weekend fam!!

Comment: DJ - I have a cousin who Notesinger and I both knew was gay since he was about 4 years old. I don't know if he was molested or anything, but we knew the day would come when the closet door would fling open, and it did. His mother and sister was shocked and upset. Note and I were like "They just been in denial the past 20 years."

Comment: Crazzee, Amen. >MC, we got your back. >Lil Mocc, Ame...this born 'Gay' thing...I'm not feeling it. As we all learn how to scoot, crawl, walk then run I also feel that behaviors surrounding sexual attraction/preference is learned. Most of us learned our behaviors from our parents or caretakers example. Others from their daycare, babysitters, schools, etc. Yet still we have television, movies and books. My jaw doesn't drop anymore when I see a 4 year-old that can do all the dances on a rap video but can't spell their name. It's learned...

Comment: And I think molestation is probably the most unreported crime in history...it destroys lives. While you can find stories of recovery I also feel that this abominable act plays a huge role in sexual confusion.

Comment: DJ, I'm with you on the molestation thing. It's inexcusable and I don't think that there is punishment severe enough for them. But our darling Fruit Loop (and we love him dearly) wouldn't let a woman do a thing for him starting as an infant. Bottle, diaper change, cuddle, nothing. Had to be a male handling and tending to him. And it continues to this day. Loves him some "him"

Comment: MC, and I'm not saying that this is the case but it sounds to me like a child that was molested at a very early age. I volunteer here in VA working with abused kids and I see babies months old that are being molested and raped. We don't have molesters we have MONSTERS that are around these kids and until the collective gets a grip on how they are jacking up society this will continue to go unreported.

Comment: Oh, what the heyell? Check this out: San Jose police have arrested a Wells Fargo branch manager and two other men suspected of setting up a fake robbery at a bank Wednesday morning, a police spokesman said Friday.
Police were called around 9:40 a.m. to the Wells Fargo inside a Safeway store in the 3200 block of Story Road, police Officer Jermaine Thomas said.
The branch manager and a bank teller reported that the teller had walked out to his car when he was approached by an armed suspect who ordered him back to the bank.
The manager told police he was forced to open the bank's door, letting the suspect inside, and to turn over more than $100,000 cash from the safe, Thomas said.
However, when detectives began interviewing witnesses about the alleged robbery, inconsistencies in the story became apparent.
"It was all false," Thomas said.
The branch manager, bank teller and supposed gunman are friends who arranged a fake robbery in hopes of pocketing the six figures in cash, according to Thomas.
Police discovered the manager had ordered extra cash for his branch a few days before the robbery and the supposed gunman never had a gun, Thomas said.
About 12 to 14 hours following the robbery, police arrested the manager, 25-year-old Brian Deguzman, the bank teller, 22-year-old Armando Mendez, and the unarmed gunman, 25-year-old Allen Vu.
The men were booked into Santa Clara County Jail and were scheduled to appear in court this afternoon for arraignment on second-degree robbery charges, according to the district attorney's office.
The cash taken from the bank safe was allegedly recovered from the home of one of the suspects.
