Comment: Anthony Samad's commentary provides no factual evidence to rebut the LA Times %*$ertion that Superintendent Brewer should be fired. Like many other commentators, Samad's reasons are based on emotion, and racial loyalty. It seems that the black community never supports the removal of ineffectual or even criminal leaders (Carol Truscott who sent a child molester back to work at Markham Middle School)simply to maintain a black person in that position of power. How could it be that black people in power never make mistakes? I would like for one black commentator to name one black leader who has been called for removal by the black community. Name one, please. for this reason, no one listens to commentaries such as these because they are all too predictable.
Do not give Brewer credit where it is not due. Schools are being built because of the legacy of Roy Romer. Violence in schools is down? Cite your sources. At Locke High School, violence is down because Brewer abdicated his power and ceded control to Green Dot, which has done a good job in turning the school around. And bat teachers being removed? I had to put down my cup of cofee to laugh at that one because everyone knows it takes an act of God to accomplish that. Again, cite your sources.
I would like to get to a point where people stop having knee-jerk reactions based on racial loyalties and judge people on their own merit. One place I will give Brewer credit is he has gone out to visit schools, while I never saw Roy Romer or Ruben Zacarias (previous sups)on campus in the past. However, anyone who works for LAUSD will tell you Ramon Cortines is running the show, not Brewer. In light of this, Brewer's contract should be cancelled, and that money should go to helping reduce the painful effecs of the upcoming budget cuts so that the kids, which are more important than all of us, can continue to be served.
