Comment: I loved this interview. Obama and Michele are so in love and they respect each other. They have a warm inviting and honest quality about them. I found Obama to be so easy going but firm when he needed to be. I found myself smiling the whole way through. There will be many kids writing school projects and book reports about this man.

Comment: A lot of people liked this interview for some reason, which makes me in the minority. I found BO to be more cautious than usual (which is a lot), and though there's no question the first couple are a wonderful blend, they seemed kind-of out of sync to me in this interview, like they weren't really in the same place mentally. In fact, Barack mentioned that he was learning that the presidency is/ will be a lonely place to be. He seemed older (lots of gray!), more mature, the youthful zeal from Candidate Obama seems to pretty much be gone. He said he felt like he's where he's "supposed to be" so maybe that explains the seriousness (also evident in his victory speech). I heard Anderson Cooper mention how "different" and older he seemed too, so I think my observation is not so far off. All that said, I'm pretty sure he'll be one of the best presidents this country has ever had, he'll outshine a lot of his predecessors per a lot of Blacks' M.O. when given a chance to show their stuff. P.S. On a strictly superficial note, Michelle O looked nice, well-groomed, her make-up was done well.

Comment: this was a nice interview, not the best from him but i will let him slide. He been busy planning to clean bush sheet and meeting with his enemies to keep them in his pocket! LoL!!!!I loved how he corrected him on the comparison of his mother n law and the dig. He came out like a pitbull. They was very affectionate holding hands etc. One thing I really liked was that he made it clear that Michelle was not there for money or title and that she is his rock. They dated when he was broke, now look at what she reaped. (snickering ladies). A hole in his car??? She really love him.

Comment: I liked the part about how more people are hovering around them since the election and that there's constant momentum . . . . . The Obamas already have impact and have already been impacted . . . . Barack is getting a daily intelligence briefings and Michelle is mulling over which DC school her girls will attend . . . . . I hope that Michelle's mom comes to DC to be their foundation because the family really needs her and I include them in my prayers

Comment: ...I dunno, I watched the interview and I think Rak was too cautious around Chelle...It was like she'd kick his azz if he said some wrong sh1t...He was hemming and hawing, aahing...He was broke temporarliy...It ain't like he was gonna go flip burgers somewhere...Yeah, she's his rock and will hit him upside his head with it if he fuccs up...He cracked me up when he told dude "C'mon man"...I'm joking a bit here.... but why did he haffa make it clear that Chelle wasn't there for the money?...Personally, I think this shoulda been a one on one interview...My first thoughts on this whole thing is...We're all gonna help him during this time...Dems and Repubs have to help him get through this...He's new and needs all the help he can get...McCain, Clinton, Bush, Carter have offered assistance and advice...Kennedy has risen from the dead to offer support to the new President...It's like they don't think he can handle this job...I just hope he's given a chance to do his thing...What I'd hate to see is the Repub contender get a news show and second guess Rak every Sunday..."Here's what I woulda done"...That's what Rudy did to Dinkins and that sucks....C'mon man, He didn't have a hole in his car...Not in freezing Chicago...Imma agree with T-Gen...They did seem outta sync but given all thats transpired I can understand...It's been a whirlwind for the family...They'll be aieght

Comment: Boot you right on point. A friend of mine did not like how Michelle would interrupt or answer the questions that were strickly for Obama; I found it rather cute because O did not answer fast enough. I told my friends she is the rock of the faM and where she see her man slippin' she's there to pick him up and run with ball. Nice interview...I'm so glad the first lady looks like a real sister for a change! we can believe in. Huey....too funny

When he looked over at her and said, "I'd like to take you for a walk" why did I think he wasn't talking about a 'walk'. It was the way he looked at her...I was thinking, you can take me for a walk too! Sookie sookie now!

Comment: i found the interview very informative and it showed that the Obamas are human. especially when they showed old clips of him when he was in the kitchen cooking and walking in the neighborhood. too bad he had to now give up his blackberry. well it's probally for the best. he and Michelle has to send each other smoke signals. and yeah, Michelle did look lovely and they were just so cute holding hands. yeah, he was cautious in answering things cause he was not ready to reveal some of the things that was still on the decision table. and i like the fact that what he will do is announce to the people about what is going to happen as far as plans for changing the economy and so forth. so overall, the interview was on point to me. i'm just looking forward to the inaugrual.

Comment: it wasn't the greatest editing, very choppy which made them all look awkward and Steve asked a few silly questions...so some of that editing was to not make Steve appear any more stupid then the questions already were. Barack is no fool, he knows that he has the attention of the world particularly during this time. There are those still waiting for a misstep -- thus the caution. He is the President elect not yet the President, he really doesn't need any information to be withheld off a perception of cockiness that really isn't is character. Bush and crew have left him with enough mess to straighten out. I know this Harlem had serious energy Sunday afternoon early evening...streets was lively; round bout 6:45 - 7ish (cause the game ran long) you could hear a pin drop on the street -- quiet! almost no cars on the street; incredible!. This brother has serious influence; folks want to hear what he has to say. He could give an address on Friday night at 10pm and folks would go home. I love it.

Comment: Another thing I have been observing from Michelle is that she is very protective of Obama and her girls and she will not let u slip on that tip. Yet she may come off aggressive but she may have to play that role because for one it is in a sistas nature, two, she knows what her and her husband is up against. Barack is a smooth sailing guy but u come at him the wrong way he will "gently" put u in your place.

Comment: Co-sign Musbdherbs on the Hillary and Lieberman rumors, not feeling either at all. Bill Richardson (though I'm not a huge fan) should be a shoe-in for that job based on his credentials and there shouldn't EVEN BE A DISCUSSION if Lieberman keeps his post or not. Only in weak Demo land do people who actively demean and tear down "their" party and leader, would they even be given the time of day. If Dems screw up and let that loozer stay on (of ALL things) the committees dealing with National Security in the direct OPPOSITE position BO ran on, they will lose a major part of their base support and we are looking at at 94' Redux come 2010. This is not really about Lierberman, this is about the Dems' spine and their soul, both which are currently very much in question. *Sigh*

Comment: I seriously doubt Bill Clinton can pass the vetting process that would allow her to get the job but Obama could minimize her perceived power in that position than to have to deal with her in the Senate. Secretary of State is an oath position last I recall. The vetting process would also finally expose Bill Clinton which would also minimize both of them. These are chess moves...at least they appear that way to me.

There is a Right Wing Radio Watch currently active in this country following Barack's win. So, people reading tooooooo deeply into Barack hesitating. NONE OF YOU CAN PRETEND TO UNDERSTAND THE EMOTIONS, STRESS AND ELATION THAT MAN IS EXPERIENCING. HE IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED RACIST STATES OF AMERIKKKA. WHAT DID YOU WANT HIM TO DO, STAND UP AND RAP A COUPLE HIP HOP BARS?? LOL, LOL, LOL....Leave it up to Black folks to criticize their own without looking at the whole instead of the parts that don't add up to caution. For crying out loud, black, president, black successful powerful man married to a black woman, too! sheesh, heck yeah the world is hawking the Baracks. I WON'T GO AS FAR AS ASKING HOW ANY OF YOU WOULD MANAGE THE INTERVIEW for obvious reasons. LOL. Black people! Comment: Fuzzygoss, Obama knew what kind of devils he would be up against when he decided to run. The fact that there are people who want to see him fail does not mean he has to curb his actions in fear of them. He also has a lot more people who want to see him succeed, he cannot afford to be fearful now, too much is at stake. That said, I applaud your loyalty. He will need soldiers like you when the going gets rough--and it will--especially if a lot of the rumors (Hillary and Lieberman) are true becaue people like me will not idly tote the party line and pat him on his back just because I voted for him. People like me will hold him to a high standard and that might include criticism every once in a while. So brace yourself, Fuzzygoss, turbulence up ahead...

Comment: If Lieberman retains his seat, his loses control. Better to keep him still where nobody likes him and he can be watched then give him freedom to leave. Hillary: I think her people have been leaking info as to back BHO into a corner. Like if word is already out there and the media has ran with it, then it is harder to just snatch it back. This is the same thing she did with the VP spot, but lost anyone. BHO is smart because now all he has to say is that Bill didn't pass the process so "Oh well" and move on to who he really wanted. Politics is a game where as we on the outside tend to look at things as cut & dry.

Comment: Should politicians be rewarded by other politicians for their bad behavior? I say no. If the decision was left up to the voting members of the electorate, I doubt that either of the two would be considered. Despite the Hillary loving from pundits, I do not believe that running a campaign which at times behaved beneath the office they were elected to should be given recompense. Sure, keep Liberman in the democrat caucus (although I would oust him). But, why in the MickeyFlickyF UCK would Hillary be the most qualified person to run the state deparment. If she needed a cabinet post, put her azz as the head of HHS. Nope, don't like it...don't like it..don't like it.

But the same thing was about about her being VP..that "he" wouldn't pa.ss the vetting. I can't imagine why Obama would even entertain offering her the job if they don't expect bill to pazz the smell test. They say that as long as Hill can azzure that Bill's foreign dealings are disclosed beforehand and a liason created w/in the yt house which would monitor it...Hill has the best chance. Personally, I would rather the position of SOS go to someone who not necessarily supported him..but at least didn't behave so poorly. Just don't think u should be rewarded.

Comment: Musb, for me it's not even about her antics during the primary, I'm over that. It's about qualifications. I've read some VERY good arguments against her being SoS. Here's one from Politico: "talk concerning Hillary Clinton as the next Secretary of State seems to focus on her famous name and her general starpower, rather than discussing what--if any--specific and uniquely valuable contributions she might bring to the job. Senator Clinton has no original or pathbreaking insights on the issue of foreign policy and the conduct of American diplomacy. She has uttered nothing beyond the usual nostrums and bromides when it comes to discussing current foreign policy challenges--from how to deal with Europe, to how to counteract Russia's renewed efforts to establish a hegemonic presence in Europe and Asia, to how to deal with the Chinese challenge to America's superpower status, to what to do about the issues of Iraq, Afghanistan and the Middle East peace process in general..."

Comment: I love this man! Seeing his interview last night on 60 minutes just let me know how f**ked we'd be if McCain/Palin won the election. I just couldn't see them being the kind of deep thinking, well articulating their thoughts on these complex subjects...reading the books that he's read, studying government has he's done and just being hella prepared to lead the free world. I loved how he and Michelle interacted, I loved him joking about his mother-in-law and showing how real he is period. I loved that he's so well-rounded that he can switch to sports and back to governing and speak on any subject. I'm still very excited about the future because I can't wait to see him in action.

Comment: TGEN..yeah I thought about that too. But nah I'm not over her beginning (during the primary) what the republicans finished during the general. I actually believe that she could be an effective SOS not really because of any solid foreign policy experience (hell it's the same as it was during the primary) but because of her relationship to her husband AND that she's smart and from all accounts a policy wonk dedicated to performing the task at hand. So I don't believe she's the most qualified (neither was Obama) but could be the best person (because of her husband's ties) right now for the job. Obama's reasons for considering her could be pragmatic in that sense. I just 1999% disagree w/it. Her husband is very popular overseas and that love could and prolly will extend to his wife (as it did during the primary). She will tow the obama line. I also wish that she could get a job that won't in some way be tied to her husband. that's why I think HHS would've been better. I'm sick of bill clinton and his damn drama.

Comment: >Tgen - I think Obama was correct to be cautious in his answers. I would too if everything I saod was misconstrued and/or misrepresented. Remember the pig in lipstick thing? As others have said, you have to consider how difficult it is to be in an interview knowing that everything you say will be scrutinized. Think back on the Palin/Couric interview. We would never want a train wreck like that for the Obamas. As for their interaction, they've been together for 16+ years. They know each other inside and out. He knows she interrupts and clearly he lets her because he's used to it and fine with it. He didn't stop her. He was calm and let her talk. I thought they were charming and the walk thing was adorable. When she said I wouldn't go for the walk anyway cuz it's cold, I was so there with her. I only like to walk to and from my car when it's cold outside and I live in DC not cold, windy-azzed Chicago. I'd let that be his "me" time! LOL...And let me say it again - I am so in love with this family! Yeah, I'm partial, biased. I'm a Scorpio - when I got your back, I got it all the way. That's how we do. Just don't cross us! ;)

Comment: Enjoyed the interview..just got finished watching it in its entirety on the CBS website. The Obamas are a picture of what respect, honesty, love and commitment are. To be married for 16 years, and still look at each other as if they are the only two people in the room is something to behold. Barack and Michele compliment each other, ALL THE TIME. Malia and Sasha have great parents and I think they will be normal kids in the White House. I can't get enough of the Obamas.

Comment: Queeniebunz, I didn't say I didn't know WHY he was cautious, that's like a "duh." I just didn't find the interview to be particularly revealing, everything seemed to be this "big, bad secret" he couldn't let the American people on, which I just found less than appealing (Just MY Opinion). Re, my and Boot's saying they seemed out of sync. I wasn't even talking about the "interruptions," don't even remember if there were any to be honest. They just gave answers to questions that made it seem like they had not experienced the whole past week or so together, they seemed to have different views of what happened and what will happen, and unlike before, seems like they didn't go over their "talking points" before the interview (which I admit I found refreshing), like being prepared for all the change: he said "not really," she said "we've been transitioning for 2 years now" (paraphrasing). That's what I meant. Even though they were affectionate, holding hands (which I LOVED), the whole nine, they didn't seem as familiar with each other's experience as in the past. Just an observation. I think if you checked out the interview again, you'll see where I was coming from. But it doesn't really matter either way...

Comment: smurfy: that's fine but that is strictly your own personal opinion. The fact that you even started your post out with "ya'll are all so blind" is dismissive of any one else's opinion that doesn't agree with yours. That is what is not cute in this particular instance. if you have a problem with her perceived "putdowns" then that is okay...it's your opinion...but to dismiss anyone who doesn't agree is rude. besides no one knows how their marriage works. she never struck me as june cleaver. Barack obviously loves her mind and how she talks and that is all that matters. I would much rather have them act like a regular couple than be faking and shaking to give off some fake version of who they really are.

Comment: Wow! If you saw that interview and didn't see love...wow, then you must not know what love is. I also saw mutual respect and understanding and a strong bond between two very strong people. That's the kind of relationship I seek. In any event, as for being 'cautious' you've got to be kidding me. What I see is thoughtfulness and critical thinking. I am very excited to have someone who actually stops and 'thinks' for a change in the White House. Not only are the critics monitoring his words, but I truly believe that he doesn't care about that as much as he wants to articulate clearly what is on his mind. I do that often when people expect an answer right away and I'm like--could you let me think for a minute. Thinking! Quite a lost art, I see...

Comment: >Tgen - I see what you are saying but what you are seeing is reality. People can experience the same situation and perceive it differently. "Your perception is your reality" comes to mind. His head is still spinning. She's his "rock" for a reason. She has been transitioning / planning / strategizing how her family will come through this while campaigning for him, too and he's been campaigning / strategizing / etc to be president. She's been planning out the transition she and her children will have to make and assisting her kids along the way so they adjust as they go along. He's been moving nonstop and now he has stopped and looked around and his head is spinning from the briefings, meetings, etc. And that's not to mention the f---ed up economic / diplomatic mess GW left him with. I think I'd jump out the Oval Office window on Jan 20th if I had to deal with that mess. But he's cool as a cucumber about it and that's what I want in a president. Yes, I do see what you are talking about and it's really a fascinating phenomenon that they have such different perceptions of the "same" situation. As she said, they've adjusted as they went along so the kids won't face such a shock when they get here. Michelle has done what most women do in situations like this - she multi-tasks between wife/mother/career woman as women have been doing like forever. That's why he defers to her and complimented her on her mothering skills.

Comment: >smurfy - I'd be interested to know if you're a man/woman, too from your comments. That aside, you mentioned that she "puts him in his place". Well, sometimes that's what a man wants/needs - particularly a high-profile man like Barack who has EUR women throwing cyber-panties at him. The comment about the walk - I'd say that to my man and he'd say it to me because we both hate the cold. I'm sure he understands that about her. Just like he understood that she wasn't hardly having the hovel he lived in here in DC. That was banter. My man told people he beats me up when I limped into church in a sling because I tore my rotator cuff and blew out my knee. He told them "I had to learn!" and they laughed at our "abusive relationship" as they were supposed to. Lighten up. It's all good. When you have a level of comfort/closeness, you can banter like that. I'm sure he lets her know he's the man of the house and as a woman from a 2-parent family, I'm sure she respects his role as the head of the household.

Comment: jamerdelta: I agree with you on rak. I am glad he is not like bush saying one thing and then doing completely something else. His team are focusing on getting the right qualified people to get the damn job done because right now this country is in the pitts of hell, and right about now he doesn't have time for people to grill him about what he is doing, the people voted so sit back and chill the hell out and let him do his thang. The party ain't even started yet. And yes he knows what he is up against but u don't see him in a rage or all bent out; for what when we know there is no magic jennie out there to mend it. As far as the Obamas, they are meant to be despite upbringings etc. Sixteen years with somebody means a lot during these times especially when marriages don't make it to 2 years. I like their structure so far, it impressed the hell out of me considering the plight of black men/women relations. The media will try to depict Michelle as harsh and selfish which is false because how many sistas would give up a six figure job so they husband can be president...a black man at that in these ages!! LOL

Comment: Yes Queenie, I think you give very plausible explanations about why there seemed to be a little dissonance in their answers in that interview. Like her not knowing he was feeling disappointed about not being able to take a walk or go to his favorite barber shop anymore, seemed like she was hearing that for the first time, which seemed odd, as it seems like something intimate a husband/wife team would have already discussed. But again, your explanation for that--that his "head is spinning" from all the ish he's facing--is very likely. Like everything else in their lives, the dynamics of their marriage will likely shift a little. They will remain best friends but there are about oh I'd say 300 million people itching for her husband's time too now, lol.

WOW doesn't that sound just like how people viewed the Clinton's?..lol To this day they say that Clinton is always thinking two steps ahead of her husband. That's why I made the sexist statement but even that may be too strong of a term. We are accustomed to seeing women defer to their husbands. In fact, it's almost the opposite sometimes. She's shown that she can be the breadwinner and HWIC when need be. I think it's a dynamic that people of both genders are gonna have to grow accustomed to cuz I for one am tired of the perfect first lady and even president for that matter.

Comment: Exactly Queenie,
Being married does not mean you're able to read each other minds or that you always have the time and/or inclination to express every little thought to your partner. If you knew everything then where would the room for continued growth and evolution together be?
Further, just because we're sitting on a roller coaster next to each other does not mean that we will have the same exact feelings, thoughts and experience of the ride. What's important is that you're sharing the experience together and bring your own interpretations to it.
What's also important is your commitment to each other and how you handle it when your partner expresses feelings or thoughts that you may not have been aware of or had time to fully process. I see Michelle and Barack demonstrating that they have that commitment and they're ready to take the Presidential ride together.

Comment: PgDn, your post is indisputable but I think you're missing the whole pr element. Since BO started running, it was evident (esp after the "proud" bruhaha) that they had decided on certain talking points to feed the media. That interview made it apparent that either they didn't have time to do so or were easing their way out of that kind of staging. That's all I think some have said, not that there's anything wrong with their marriage for goodness sake, lol, just that that interview was awkward in that it showed them as two separate entities when before usually in interviews they seemed to be able to finish each other's sentences. But this convo is not that deep, not like you're making it seem.

Comment: Also I would think Mr. Obama was alittle bit out of sink during the interview because he's still grieving the death of his grandmother in spite of everything else that's going on. I mean it's been less than a month.
To me the death of a cherished loved one would explain looking tired, older and being quieter that usual.

I'm not kidding when I say that sooner than later viable third and fourth parties will begin to emerge on both sides, right and left. Both bases are pizzed at their party's non-leadership. If Blacks could just somehow get out of this "I'm a Democrat no matter what" mindset, and really start to leverage their support, they along with netroots and others could make the Democratic party stop taking them for granted. Comment: bigchassie, yes, they got a love thing sure nuff. Smurfy, you got to see the whole thing to get what im saying. He said he misses the old things he used to be able to do like taking a walk. Then she said, "you want to take a walk?" the way they talk to each other is cute. On another point -- My sister raised a good point from a woman's perspective. Michelle holds Barack accountable as a man and as a husband but the love is still there and they are still in love and you can see that in them and the way they are with each other. Its great she still holds him accountable as her husband and the father to their children. They are beautifullu grounded and their kids keep them grounded too. For once we are seeing REAL PEOPLE go into The White House! A welcomed change!
