Comment: Mo, In all honesty, I had never heard of the woman before she was murdered, and my 1st thought when I saw her photos was "I wonder if she had been sexually %*$aulted?"

Comment: Thanks for being so honest about something most people either don't say outloud or only say in the company of friends.

Comment: MO, I felt the same when I heard what happened to Anne Pressly. Now they're saying she was sexually %*$aulted as well. Very sad case.

Comment: At the end of the day, there are way to many black folks involved in violent crime...period. We make up a small percentage of the population, but have more than I fair share of thugs. While getting p!ssed off that the media unequally covers black on white crime versus all other combinations is truly a valid concern, I still can't understand what it is going to take to remove the thug mentally from some of our people. The Hudson situation is sad, but they welcomed this known criminal into their lives and his estranged wife and her brother were somewhat involved in illegal activity with him. It's not to hard to connect the dots that violence might occur in that situation. Granted, I don't think anyone could foresee the extent of the violence reaching out to a child and his grandmother. At the end of the day, a lot of people that situation of something that would never happen to them, black or white, because they don't live that type of life. The Anne Pressly situation disturbs me because that could be me - just living my life trying to make an honest living and fall victim to a random act of violence.

Comment: Mo,I have to admit, as I was listening to the headlines on the news, I was sittin there prayin' "please don't be black, please don't be black"...and I caught myself. I hate it because it just adds more fuel to the fire to perpetuate the stereotypes of all of "us". I still pray for not only her family but for "ours" as well...great article...

Comment: I remember hearing a lot about Pressley's attack and feeling people's sadness and sympathy for it, but honestly, I have not heard a lot about the attacker being caught and didn't even know he was Black, so given that there hasn't been an exorbitant amount of press coverage (ala Natalie Holloway) I don't know if I'd say there was "public outrage," but your overall point is well-taken. I also see Angel's point. Progress is two-fold: "they" should be fairer in their coverage but WE have to be smarter in our behavior, stop giving them fuel for their fire so to speak. But it's an age-old quandry at this point, something that's been mulled over for years and years. Obama's presidency may help things, but as someone said the other day, "if he fails and Blacks are blamed, do we find ourselves even further back than before?" Personally, while I appreciate Blacks' communalism, I'll be glad when there is less "we" and more "I," at least in the sense that each person is judged on his/her own merit and we no longer have to feel embarrassed by all the Curtis Vances of the world, and we can get over all the "First Black..." chatter. It'd be nice to just be for a change, be whatever it is we are or want to be, without all the race baggage. If only...

Comment: H*ll yeah, I was hoping dude wasn't black. I was one of the people completely caught off guard when the crazy-azzed DC snipers were black - it was kinda a WTF moment. In this case, I was hoping it was some ex she couldn't get rid of or whatever. As for the comparison in coverage/outrage - well, I'm not sure where you're going with this, MoKelly. From my perspective, people I know were horrified that somebody shot a little boy in the head - horrified. And, in relation to Hudson being famous and all which meant she got a lot of coverage, well, this young woman was famous in her circle, too and as an NBC affiliate, the whole network was going to be on the case like flies on sh*t. This dude killed one of their own. The same outrage was present years ago when a black female news anchor was killed by her white husband - and yes, she was black and yes, the media was on it. So yeah, I do agree that blacks get more coverage in the news for committing crimes and I do get it that it appears that our lives are valued less but I have to ask a question. Do whites view us as less valuable because it appears WE view ourselves as less valuable by all the killing we do to each other??? Most crime statistically is INTRA-racial and not INTER-racial. So when it's different races involved there is more coverage, be it black on white or white on black. And I have to say that I am really getting tired of our men acting like this. I really am. Ball players acting like d*mned fools, thugs like this beating people to death, thugs like Balfour killing a small child. It's out of control and has been for a long time. And the thing is that we know how to stop it but we just don't - education, church, job training. Quite honestly, I thought you'd cover the dumb azz who shot his own self in the leg (bad grammar intended). If you ask me, ball players and musicians/rappers are the main black men people look at in deciding how black men are and it ain't a good look. I had 3 little thuglets try and steal my car on January 2nd and I cursed they lil azzes out til they ran away - 3 little black thuglets - black on black crime. Their mentality was that they thought they could just get in my car and presto chango it was their car. That's the mentality of our young men and it sickens me. So yeah, I did cringe when I saw his black face on the news. Yeah I did, but I wasn't surprised at all.

Comment: Good post Queen. LMAO at the "3 little black thuglets".....But I just new the Pressly killer was white, just knew it!..Then they showed his face, his "Black" face and I was so shocked. Shocked because the media had made it like the woman was being stalked by a viewer (and we all know them stalkers be white lol). Now today they are saying the woman was sexually azzaulted and the beating he put on her was heinous. Every bone in her face was broken and her jaw bone had broke through the skin. Made me sick!

Comment: TJ we're >< because I just "knew" this was a white dude. Don't know why, but that was my feeling. I was surprised that he was black. To address Mo, I always am silently saying "Please don't let them be black" whenever I hear a particularly heionous news story. I think it's somehow wired into our genetic code at this point to do that.

Comment: It's odd and ironic that you would post this story Mo. While not following the story daily it was on my reading back-burner. I had every thought that you expressed concerning the family, killer, and race. I still don't know if even a POI (person of interest) has been identified and questioned in this situation. However being paranoid doesn't make you wrong in any case.

Comment: Here is even more fire, they (bloggers) are trying to link Jermaine Taylor (top AR boxer) to her murder. (saying they dated and he killed her because she was pregnant), I am like OMG, here we go. Trying to duplicate an OJ Simpson Race issue. I didnt want him to be black, and given my suspicious of the South and Whites in generally. Vance probably did not do it. Its like pick a n#@#$ and plant evidence. We need more facts and they are not giving us any which is hella suspicious given the high profile of this case. My heart goes out to everyone affected by her death, but also to the countless black women who experience similar fates but never make the news.

Name: jazzfan
Comment: Isn't Jermain Taylor married with like 6 kids? Damn, I hope that isn't the case, anotha brotha throwing his life away chasing blondie.

Name: MelodyCool
Comment: They interviewed another victim on 20/20 this past Friday...She came home and Jermaine was hiding in her livingroom and approached her from behind with a weapon. Turns out he lived right across the street and a few doors down from this woman. He was caught outside a gym masturbating to the images of women exercising and stalked another married woman by going to her home not once but "twice". The woman said her neighbors called saying "he's in your yard again".
