Comment: Obama’s deadliest anti terror blunder may turn out to be his decision to not Bring Charges Against Bush Officials for Torture…. A former special operations interrogator who was part of an elite team of interrogators who helped to locate Zarqawi said: “Torture and abuse cost American lives. I learned in Iraq that the No. 1 reason foreign fighters flocked there to fight were the abuses carried out at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo. … It's no exaggeration to say that at least half of our losses and casualties in that country have come at the hands of foreigners who joined the fray because of our program of detainee abuse. The number of U.S. soldiers who have died because of our torture policy will never be definitively known, but it is fair to say that it is close to the number of lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001. How anyone can say that torture keeps Americans safe is beyond me -- unless you don't count American soldiers as Americans…The war after the war is a fight about who we are as Americans.... I'm actually quite optimistic these days, in no small measure because President-elect Barack Obama has promised to outlaw the practice of torture throughout our government. But until we renounce the sorts of abuses that have stained our national honor, al-Qaeda will be winning. Zarqawi is dead, but he has still forced us to show the world that we do not adhere to the principles we say we cherish.” http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2 008/11/28/AR2008112802242_pf.html…... Obama doesn’t need to outlaw an already outlawed practice. What he needs to do is prosecute Bush officials for torture. Failure to do so is a tacit approval of these techniques, and will send the wrong message to foreign fighters who will continue to kill Americans.

Comment: Even more than that Reds, his decision to not make a clean break from the Iraq War perpetuators sends exactly the wrong message not only to his most ardent supporters (ie the ones who funded his damn campaing) but also to the world, who wanted to believe that America would cleanse its hands from the blood of dead soldiers and Iraqis and from the stench of lies that led to that invasion. Instead, not ONE person in Obama's cabinet got it right on Iraq. Every.single.person he's appointed supported that illegal war. What the hell kind of message is that? I want my vote back.

Comment: Looks like I'm going to have stake out my post office to prevent those postal employees from getting 'frisky' with this latest Ebony. I wonder if they will send it in a plastic wrap like some publications do when they have special issues like this?

Comment: I don't see why anyone expected him to make a totally clean break from the Bush administration when they are the ones who have the most knowledge of the past 8 year. At a company, they don't give long standing accounts to newbies. I believe PE Obama has made a wise choice in keeping them on because he will need their wealth of understanding if nothing else. Also remember the "change" in this case is WHO is running things. Subordinates carry out the orders of the BOSS. Folks have been saying PE Obama was wrong all throughout election season but we see who came out on top.

Comment: Quanli, Obama "came out on top" BECAUSE of us! The only other major time he was criticized previously had to do with political manuevering. The record shows that he adapted to the criticisms, not the other way around. His campaign became more forceful (much moreso than in the primary when he almost lost) and he benefitted from that constructive criticsm. This though, is not about political strategy, this is about policy, even life and death issues. If people wanted to vote for someone who was Iraq-war lite, they would have voted Hillary in, she had much more of a record and at least they knew what they would be getting. He ran one way, but is choosing to govern another. That may be okay with you, but it's not with me. But I digress. Back to the topic: (Yet another) story about Obama being on a magazine cover. *Yawn*

Comment: Quanli, I thought he would break away from the old administration's policies but I have been quite taken aback by all of this so-called CHANGE(If you want to be be honest about this situation ummm.... I feel kinda used up...like a rejected participant of a one night stand. Maybe I am not looking hard enough for change, but I sure don't see it right now...

Comment: As long as He gets the job done it doesn't matter. I will tell u want change I want to see: more people employed, more homeownership with fair and legal mortgages, better and equal education, equitable health care, end of war, etc. Now what change is more important than that? Politics is politics, so get over it and get a life. The man haven't even made it in the office and u are scrutinizing his character. All talk but are u doing the real walk yourself??? I'll judge after the outcome of his term.
