Comment: Hell, the Time reunited on Michael Basiden's show about a month ago or so and ain't miss a beat. Jerome, Jimmy, errybody was up in that piece. Morris Day and Jerome did their dance together, it was wild.

Name: jazzfan
Comment: He needs to reunite with Karyn White and do a disc on her!

Name: MOTHERSHIP
Comment: Jazz, yeah, whatever happened to Karen? Ol' girl had some horns on her!

Name: Teigh
Comment: not sure if they are still married (in fact I think they aren't) but Karyn was married to Terry Lewis....I have a four disc compilation of the music of Jam & Lewis and I have to say it's the definitive sound of the 80's. Shrewd businessman, they also have regained most if not all of their publishing -- had one of the most innovative deals I've ever seen. I always wondered why this set was never released commercially...probably because they don't own the masters (costly) and would need artist permission. Given their very distinct sound of the 80's I'd be very curious to hear what they sound like now.

Name: Platinum
Comment: I saw The Time (minus Jam & Lewis) in concert this past summer, Morris Day is still the showman he was back in the 80's. They had everyone up on their feet with all the classic, had a good time so the reunion should be fun.

Name: MOTHERSHIP
Comment: Yeah, Teigh, that's right. He did marry Karen. I don't think they're still together though either.

Name: DCGG
Comment: I say fuvk Janet..Jimmy and nem made her whack azz...picked her azz up off tired azz "dream street" and put her in "control"...

Name: Sigmatherunner
Comment: This will be a CD worth buying along with catching them on tour.

Name: MOTHERSHIP
Comment: DCGG, where you see Janet at? LMBAO!!

Name: katgrrrl
Comment: DCGG: LOL, too true!

Name: dcdouglass01
Comment: The Time. The last great self-contained performance band of that 70's-80's era of energetic, funky, male-dominated R&B. Terry & Jimmy left too early, but the consolation was their incredible catalog of music ranging from Alexander O'Neil to Janet. Jesse Johnson did his thing for a minute too. The new album should be interesting, as all the music will be totally independent of Prince (I'm assuming; Prince, with Morris on vocals, wrote and performed most of the music on the Time's four albums from the 80s).

Name: soulmusic101
Comment: Teigh....Thanks for the idea of making a Jam/Lewis compilation for my iPod.....Good to see others showing love to Karyn White, not a bad idea with Jam and Lewis behind the board.....Please Jam/Lewis and the rest of The Time make sure the CD is better than the "Pandemonium" CD. "JerkOut" was kind of cool but the rest was blah......Jam/Lewis and Janet back together would be cool with me.

Name: mandinka_99
Comment: I say do a whole damn Flyte Tyme tour package! Get Cherrelle, Karyn White & Alexander O'neal with The Time as the backing band for errybody!! BTW ... and I'm just speculating ... part of the reason Terry & Karyn White ... was all that "studio time" Karyn put in with BabyFace!! You know, it was Babyface that put Karyn on the map by writing most of the hits on her first solo album! Terry & Jimmy produe=ced her 2nd & 3rd albums with not nearly as stellar results. Teryy prolly was saying, " ... hey-all NAW I ain't lettin' my wife get holed up in no studio wit dat' sensitive hate-song writin' muh-f**ker AGAIN!! Dammit woman, I'mma do all yo' producin' from here on out!!!"

Name: soulmusic101
Comment: I forgot too add just Jam/Lewis and Janet writing/producing, no outsiders. If the Time member "Monte Moir could come up with a slamming groove, that would be the exception. Just my 2 cents.

Name: soulmusic101
Comment: mandinka_99...I think a lot of people slept on the 2nd and 3rd Karyn White CD's. "The Way I Feel About You", "Romantic", "Do Unto Me", and "Tears Of Joy" were outstanding tracks. You couldn't pay me too delete the previous tracks listed.

Name: Teigh
Comment: soulmusic101...that disc has been staring me in the face lately...I'm going to give it a serious listen this afternoon.

Name: Teigh
Comment: soulmusic101> for a great tracklist, check out ebay. From time to time they offer this compilation. It's called The Hits of Jam & Lewis. Sometimes the track listing is visible.

Name: coach123
Comment: I was in vagas in june and get to see time man they are back in a big way.

Name: soulmusic101
Comment: dcdouglass01...I agree on the first CD "The Time" but when it comes to "Ice Cream Castle" and "777-9311" I hear "The Time" performing the music. Prince may have wtote the tracks and laid the blueprint on how the music should sound tho. Hard to say what Alexander Nevermind and Jamie Starr was up too.

Name: soulmusic101
Comment: Teigh....gracias...going to Ebay for the track listing.

Name: WordUp
Comment: oh please. Even Jimmy and Teri's hit days gotta come to an end. Can't nobody revive Janet's career. She has hit her peak. Ole gurl oughta have a family of her own and just chill. Quit tryna bring the dead back to life puhleeze.

Name: Teigh
Comment: Word up...I hesitantly agree. It's very hard to stay relevant throughout multiple decades and only a very few have done it. Miles Davis, Quincy Jones, and Herbie Hancock are three who easily come to mind...now what do they all have in common (although each has experimented across genres)

Name: mandinka_99
Comment: soulmusic101 re: Karyn White's 2nd & 3rd CDs ... I think by the time she did those two CDs, Babyface pretty much owned R&B lock, stock & barrel. Plus the fact, that female urban R&B singers were trying to either be Mary J Blige or Mariah Carey clones. In addition, Jam & Lewis have always pretty much looked at Janet as their bread & butter franchise artist. As talented as they are, Jam & Lewis never did too well producing a 2nd or 3rd release of an artist ... outside of Janet. Real quick ... how many of y'all can name artists that Jam & Lewis produced outside of Janet, Alexander O'Neal, & Cherrelle?

Name: mandinka_99
Comment: Teigh ... what Miles Davis, Q & Hancock all have in common is that they are MUSICIANS first & foremost!! More specifically, all of them are fundamentally rooted in jazz musicianship!

Name: Mas90
Comment: Alexander ONeal has been releasing new music in Europe and UK. He's huge over there in the UK. He has a myspace page.

Name: Teigh
Comment: mandinka_99> Jam & Lewis produced and wrote for the SOS Band, Human League, New Edition, Mint Condition, Sounds Of Blackness, Solo, Ralph Tresvant...and had a huge hit with Thelma Houston (You Used To Hold Me)...Jam & Lewis did very consistent releases with Alexander...his drug use killed his career in the US; and yes Miles, Q and Herbie are jazz musicians, that was indeed my point

Name: Teigh
Comment: Mas90...you're right Alexander is doing very well in the UK...because in the UK it's about the music; in the US it's about the genre.

Name: Mas90
Comment: Karyn White was supposed to have relase an all new album about 2 years ago but it got shelved for whatever reasons. But one or two songs did make her greatest hits collection released this year. I think it was more feasable to keep the money within the family after Terry & Karyn got married but she still worked Face on the 3rd album. "Ritual of Love" is the cut you should check out Teigh besides Do Unto Me but I love every track on the album.

Name: Mas90
Comment: mandinka... Jam & Lewis worked with Mya, Bryan Adams, Mariah, Caron Wheeler, Mc Lyte, Usher, and I believe Blu cantrell.

Name: mandinka_99
Comment: Dayum, Teigh ... did you miss any??? Well you did miss one (lol)... Yolanda Adams (Open Up My Heart)! Teigh it so sad that the music business is rife with "business types" (producers, record execs, managers, promoters) ... celebrities posing as singers, rappers & dancers ... so precious few musicians who can actually PLAY (!!!) an instrument. Even worse, too many "singers" (and many so-called music fans) have so little knowledge and appreciation for the musical instrument that is the human voice!

Name: Mas90
Comment: Janet shouldn't stop making music just because the United States is so fickle! The last album was LA Reid idea not Janet's. Lets get that straight! Janet needs to continue on just liek Madonna does. FVK da haters!

Name: WordUp
Comment: That Teigh sure sounds like an industry insider. I appreciate your knowledge!

Name: mandinka_99
Comment: Mas90 I think that's when Jam & Lewis hit that phase in their caeers when they were contributing "hits" to people's CDs as opposed to producing whole works from top to bottom. Come to think of it I think that when the industry became more interested in artists putting out multi-platinum products rather than givin' em room to do good music

Name: Teigh
Comment: mandinka_99...because the truth of the matter is that the music industry was and has been introuble for a very long time. When the CD format was introduced, it was masked because sales went up again...people were upgrading their music and the industry wasn't thinking long term or about nuturing artists as they did in the past. With this new format (digital file) and no plan the recording industry has become software for an IPOD and song marketed...the kids don't care about a whole project anymore it's "Did you hear the new song"......There are plently of music fans who appreciate artists and musicianship...but if you're listening to US radio to hear what's out there then you won't. Mas90> I absolutely agree LA ALWAYS wanted to make a janet jackson record and he failed miserably. Janet should hook up with Van Hunt -- she'd have a killer album and folks would finally realize who he is and maybe just maybe his Popular project will see the light of day!

Name: Mas90
Comment: Mandinka... I hear what you're saying but Jam & Lewis is no different from everyone working with THE Dream now. If you make more than one hit close together then everyone wants to work with you. You go up the peak and down.

Name: bigchassie
Comment: DAYUMMM TEIGH> i bet you got a serious music collection! what you got, sweetie?

Name: mandinka_99
Comment: Mas90, I agree with you that Janet should continue. I'm a Janet fan too; got them two albums (yeah ... the original vinyl releases) prior to CONTROL. But to tell the truth, Janet hasn't reinvented herself over the years like Madonna has. As a "performer" Janet is STILL an A-lister in my book. But musically ... sonically ... seems like everything she's done for the past 10 years has been retreads of THE VELVET ROPE. As much as I like Janet as an artist and enjoy her as a performer, I haven't bought anything since ALL FOR YOU. The releases I've heard seem to always have her cooing and mewing like some over-sexed alleycat. Vocally I want her to re-capture the passion she had on RHYTHM NATION, again. On that CD, you could actually make out what the hey-all Janet was saying (singing).

Name: Mas90
Comment: Van Hunt!!!! Really... I would not even think to put her with him. I can see Randy Jackson which manages Van Hunt. I think Janet should work with the Underdogs, Mike City, european music producers that's starts with a "M".

Name: mandinka_99
Comment: (Feeling jealous) bigchassie ... bet'cha mine's just as big as Teigh's ... maybe bigger!! My music collection, that is!!! LOL!!

Name: Teigh
Comment: mandinka_99>I know you didn't direct the comment to me but has Madonna really re-invented herself or has she done what Mas90 spoke about in his recent post (The Dream). Madonna went back to club records because that was and has always been her bread & butter...in my opinion Hard Candy is the answer to her plea to Timbaland "Give a record like you gave Nelly Fertado"

Name: Teigh
Comment: Mas90...Van would give her a groovable funk edge, can work with her very light vocals and give her a different sound. Van is very diverse...remember now he wrote "hopeless" (Love Jones soundtrack)and that was huge and different for black radio when it came out -- and it worked!

Name: Mas90
Comment: European music producers: Stargate

Name: Mas90
Comment: Teigh, Mandinka... I like Van Hunt. I saw in concert at the Hollywood Bowl with Seal. I like his first single "Dust". Teigh.... u might be right... light vocals over some funk like "Got Til It's Gone" was a great song vocally to me for her that had some funk.

Name: mandinka_99
Comment: Teigh, I agree with ya that digital music has changed the game quite a bit. Even though a lot of music fans are 'singles'-oriented nowadays, I'm old enough to remember the day when music fans has multiple stacks of 45's!! People toting around Ipods with thousands of files is pretty similar to us old-schoolers who had stacks and stacks of 45's. But I've been primarily an album-oriented music fan; although I still have a shyt-load of LPs that only have one or two "hits on 'em ... and I catch pure hey-all every time I move to a new place!

Name: mandinka_99
Comment: Teigh ... re: Madonna, I'll admit I'm not as up on Madonna's "music" lately. From the little I have observed, she still ain't recycling the LIKE A VIRGIN tour. The last time Madonna really caught my attention, musically was when she did the theme to the Bond movie DIE ANOTHER DAY.

Name: Mas90
Comment: Janet needs Diane Warren!!!!! That who she needs too. So this is who I would have on Janet's next album.... Jam & Lewis, Mike City, the Underdogs, Stargate, Diane Warren, Bryan Wilson, Andre Cymone (some Jody Watley 80's "Don't You want Me" type of feel), Kieth Crouch and even give Keri Lewis a shot cause I did like "The Heat" track and others from toni.

Name: soulmusic101
Comment: Did somebody forget that Jam/Lewis also worked with Cheryl Lynn...Hey Teigh let's compare who has the biggest music colletion.....joking...lol

Name: bigchassie
Comment: OOOH...MANDINKA!! I BET YOU GOT A BIGGGG ONE!!!!LOL!

Name: mandinka_99
Comment: Mas90, Janet never was a hardcore singer per se; her pipes and range are rather limited. But she picked her material well; thanks to Jam & Lewis. RHYTHM NATION is about the best example of the widest musical range of songs Janet ever took on. As good as VELVET ROPE was, seems like evrything she's done since then has been ... more or less for better or worse a repeat. I know Janet can do better and maybe Jam & Lewis along with Van Hunt might be able to get it out of her.

Name: Teigh
Comment: Mas90...Janet doesn't need a hit machine, she needs an overhaul. A stargate production would just sound like everything else they've done with everyone else.

Name: Mas90
Comment: I will admit I sick of Neyo & Stargate working together.

Name: Teigh
Comment: Mas...that's a formula record. Kind of like B using If I was a Boy to introduce a new sound that was only one song. Janet needs one producer and I vote for Van Hunt!!!

Name: Teigh
Comment: and if we are going to honest doesn't some of B's song sound like Rhianna....same producer or writer.

Name: mandinka_99
Comment: bigchassie ... oooh it's a monster!!! At least 30 years long and still growing!! And gurl ... this son of a gun weighs about 700 lbs!!! LOL!! (If you include all the vinyl, CDs AND c%*$ettes I still lug around!!) And hey ... quit laffin' ... hell naw I ain't got no 8-tracks ... even if I WAS a teeneager when them damn things were popular!! LOL! Thank God, I've digitized 95% of all that stuff onto my desktop! Took me 3 1/2 years to do it! But some'a them album covers are HARD to let go of ... like them Earth, Wind & Fire ... and ... them Ohio Players covers!!

Name: soulmusic101
Comment: Add Pia Zadora (lol), Geoge Michael, Kelly Price, Eric Benet, Rod Stewart, Jordan Night(NKOTB), Gwen Stefani, The Sounds Of Blackness, Boyz II Men, and The Spice Girls (lol).

Name: Mas90
Comment: Teigh u r so right!

Name: soulmusic101
Comment: Nah Janet only needs Jam/Lewis, it's like Quincy and Michael.

Name: Mas90
Comment: Then Diane Warren is my pic for a new sound cause she can offer soul and adult contemporary.

Name: Teigh
Comment: soulmusic...even Quincy told Michael that it is beyond expectation to expect to create another Thriller. That was a moment in time. Quincy wasn't interested because MJ wanted to work with Q for all the wrong reasons...and don't discount the magic of Bruce Sweiden...he could make a record sound good!!!

Name: Mas90
Comment: Janet has never worked with Prince. That would be a new sound.... his sound. LOL!

Name: Teigh
Comment: mas..I like Diane but that would be a straight pop record...no edge

Name: Mas90
Comment: Yes Janet doesn't have the powerful pipes.

Name: mandinka_99
Comment: Teigh ... Mas90 ... Beyonce' is this generation's "Janet"! The big difference is that B can actually sing! You don't get to do duets with Luther Vandross if you ain't got no pipes!! Come to think of it, Janet WAS the weakest vocalist Luther ever sang with ... that hit they had from the Mo' Money soundtrack (another very underrated Jam & Lewis production) was pretty good! That song had Janet singing in her lower register for a change!

Name: mandinka_99
Comment: Mas90 ... Janet & Prince, together??!! Yeah right ... an ex-Jehovah's Witness and neophyte Witness convert ... God (Jehovah) only knows what that would sound like! I'm down for it ... but only IF Prince brings the REAL FUNK!!! I'd like a to hear Prince & Janet on a duet! Bet'cha it'll have even more edge than Janet & Michael on SCREAM!!

Name: soulmusic101
Comment: mandinka_99...Sorry but I don't follow sales all the time, it's about quality and good music.

Name: Teigh
Comment: janet would never do it because it would have the 'appearances' of following Beyonce....and my collection I have no idea the number buts lets just say it consists of reel to reel, extensive c%*$ettes, yes some 8 tracks, extensive albums, loads of CD's and many digital files. I will not give up my vinyl because also digital files are compatible, the sound quality is not the same.

Name: Mas90
Comment: Yeah, "The BEst Things in Life Are Free" was a good song. TEIGH... not all of Diane songs are pop... Xscape "the softest place on earth", Tracie SPencer "Nothing Broken But My Heart". It depends on who produces it. You can make anything into SOUL... HELLO "I will Always Love you" - country to pop - (not a good example, sorry at work can't think) But if Diane Warren allows you to change or add... (kind of strick on sharing credit, I've heard)

Name: Mas90
Comment: Does anyone know who Janet is trying to sign with???

Name: Teigh
Comment: very strict on sharing credit! I hear you on Diane I just think Van should get a shot!

Name: Teigh
Comment: digital files are portable but the sound quality is questionable...that's what I meant to say

Name: Mas90
Comment: Teigh... I take it that u know Van personally?

Name: Teigh
Comment: no I don't know Van personally; a huge fan of his talent (writing and producing) and what he can do with that guitar...the base line on "N The Southern Shade" walks...very dissapointed at what Blue Note did although it had more to do with EMI collasping than just throwing Van under the bus. I'm just so sick of everybdoy going with the formula pick...it's like that Digital Underground song "All around the world the same song" (I think that's how that line went).

Name: Teigh
Comment: dang my typing is getting ugly but I think you can understand it!

Name: Mas90
Comment: Van Hunt... BLue Note shelved his album and didn't even give him the masters ( $$$$ ). But anyone I know I you feel. I'm a huge fan of CHante MOore. Her latest album is good.... I love the only uptempo dance song "Can't DO It".

Name: Teigh
Comment: Mas....Listen to "Highlights", "Down Here is H e l l", and "out of the sky" off Van's Debut and tell me he and janet wouldn't make some serious magic in the studio

Name: Teigh
Comment: the opening guitar riff on "Down here..." would make Sugafoot (ohio players) proud!

Name: Mas90
Comment: I know the song "Down Here In Hell". I remeber the video too. I'm still trying to put him with Janet. Someone call/email/ Van hunt.... I'm sure he has a myspace page. Teigh thats your task.

Name: Teigh
Comment: last I heard It hink Van is touring in Japan but I'll tell you this...when you can find Popular on Ebay it makes serious money and I'm tempted to sell my copy (but I don't bootleg). I've seen that promo go as high as $100. Van and janet would have people saying "Dang That's janet" and it would have folks lined up wanting a Van Hunt song. HIghlights is funky, check out that one!

Name: BigPauley
Comment: Teigh, you forgot about Force MDs and their only hit, written by Jam & Lewis: Tender Love. Outside of that, you are a true funkateer. Prince has worked with quite a few paper-thin-voiced sirens (Vanity, Appolonia, Paula Abdul), so a Janet collabo would be nothing new for him. It just needs to rock, it needs be funky, and it needs a catchy hook and it's all good.

Name: BKLYNVIAMAHATTAN
Comment: Force MD's had a lot more hits on that first album. Tender Love was one, I think there was about 4 of them. They were at their best when they use to sing on the Staten Island Ferry. There is where they were discovered. Half of them are Dead Now. Much Talent.. so much talent!

Name: BKLYNVIAMAHATTAN
Comment: Karen and Terry have been divorced for years. Heard it was Cherrelle that brought that on! I guess she felt that she could snag a big time Writer/Producer. She wanted to be in the same league as her Cousin..Perri Reid, aka Pebbles.

Name: Teigh
Comment: I intentionally left off the one hit songs...Don't think Prince would be good (or cost effective) I'm a Van fan...

Name: chryshelisonline
Comment: I LOVE VAN HUNT!!! When I first heard Seconds of Pleasure, I just knew it was from an ol' skool kat. I saw this young-ish dude blowin' and had to cop the CD...I like the whole thing. It is in my rotation in my truck. I missed the Seal concert but didn't know Van Hunt was the undercard...I'm mad that I missed it. He was supposed to be in concert with Joss Stone (what!) but I was going to see HIM. It inexplicably got cancelled. I check online every now and then to see when he is performing. He, Raheem DeVaughn, and Chrisette Michele are truly slept on. I may be forced to see Robin Thicke in concert in order to see Chrisette again...she is opening for him here in L.A.

Name: chryshelisonline
Comment: And I am the ultimate Ohio Players fan...that guitar riff on Down Here in Hell does kinda have that vibe.

Name: Teigh
Comment: I think not sure but I think Van is from Ohio...Ohio has produced some killa R&B & Funk bands throughout the years....

Name: Teigh
Comment: yeah "Seconds of Pleasure" is just gritty....but right now I'm loving "N The Southern Shade" and "There's Never a Good Time 2 Say Goodbye" from Popular. Van can go gritty, croon with the best of them and then give you that funky cut that makes you dance. He's the real deal...

Name: Mas90
Comment: He's from Dayton, Ohio ( little detriot )
