Comment: Dr. Malik Zulu Shabazz: Obama has not been silent on the economy, nor the attacks in Mumbai, or on a number of other issues…Right now, Obama is between a rock and a hard place. He pledged support to Israel in the election process, now he is in a position to get politically burned by that because Israel does not share his vision of reconciliation and justice…
So, as Israel continues to illegally pound and invade Gaza, we are not premature in calling on Obama to take the right position. Because if we wait to warn him, we will be behind the process, if he does what he is predicted to do, back Israel unconditionally. If Obama does this, which we advise against, he will soon unravel the worldwide goodwill that made his presidency so attractive to the darker and oppressed peoples of the world.

Comment: Obama’s murderous double standard on the middle east defended: As more than half a thousand civilians have been slaughtered by Israel, the Moslem media is fed a litany of pictures of an apparently carefree Obama playing golf alongside horrific pictures of dead and suffering Palestinians. This is in stark contrast to the Mumbai attack when Obama came out with an immediate denouncement of the killing of a disproportionately fewer number of civilians.
It’s also a business as usual attitude from Bush who continues to defend the murderous actions of Israel to the very end. This comes as a slap in the face of Americans and foreigners who expected some basic “change” at lest in human compassion, from a Democratic, first black POTUS. Watching MSNBC’s 1600 Pa. Avenue last night, the distinction between the good and the bad guy became cloudier as it was none other than the ultra right wing Pat Buchannan who was a staunch defender of the Palestinians, as he made the inevitable comparison between Bush and Obama. Buchannan said “Obama has to denounce the collective punishment of the Palestinians, otherwise he is going to be a Xerox copy of Bush who has dragged the good name of this country to the lowest level in the middle east it has ever been….What is taking place in Gaza is a human rights catastrophe…Palestinians are killed at a rate of 100 to 1 of the Israelis.” In contrast to this, not unlike the Obama Azz kissers on this board, Harold Ford found a way to side with Bush and defend Obama’s double standard. BTW, David Gregory, the host for 1600 Pa. Avenue, is evidence that MSNBC is a Xerox copy of Fox. He claims that Israel’s actions are righteous, since 4 out of 5 of those killed are supporters of Hamas, not withstanding the fact that these 4 out of 5 supporters of the democratically elected Hamas are women and children.

Comment: President-elect Obama does not have and will not have free will to exercise viable options anywhere in the Middle East if the options go against the flow of whatever Israel wants because of AIPAC influence in American politics . . . . for those who don't know anything about AIPAC, AIPAC wipes out opposition to its purposes and it will not fear anything about Obama . . . . . 9/10/2007 Democracy Now: Amy Goodman interview of former president Jimmy Carter for his book, “Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid” . . . . .
JIMMY CARTER: "Well, there’s an inherent commitment in America, which I share as a Christian, of a deep commitment to make sure that Israel is safe and that Israel is free and that they can seek for peace. So there’s a strong inclination for all of us to support Israel’s continued existence in peace. And that is added onto by the very effective work of the American Israeli group called AIPAC, which is performing its completely legitimate task of convincing Americans to support the policies of the Israeli government. And AIPAC is not dedicated to peace. They’re dedicated to inducing the maximum support in America, in the White House, in the Congress and in the public media, for whatever policies the Israeli government has at a particular time. And they’re extremely effective."

Excerpts of a Washington Post book review by Jefferson Morley ____
"Jimmy Carter, Palestinian Sympathizer" ____
Jimmy Carter has emerged as the most prominent pro-Palestinian public figure in America.
In a new book, the former president offers a passionate defense of Palestinian aspirations rarely heard in the U.S. media and unprecedented from someone who once occupied the Oval Office.
Entitled "Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid," Carter's book has won him praise in the international online media and scathing criticism from U.S.-based Israel supporters. In the Israeli media, the reaction to Carter's defense of Palestinian rights has been more tempered.
"The bottom line is this," Carter writes in an online excerpt posted by his publisher." "Peace will come to Israel and the Middle East only when the Israeli government is willing to comply with international law, with the Roadmap for Peace, with official American policy, with the wishes of a majority of its own citizens -- and honor its own previous commitments -- by accepting its legal borders. All Arab neighbors must pledge to honor Israel's right to live in peace under these conditions."
In the United States, Carter's linkage of Israeli policy and the now-defunct South African system of racial apartheid has been greeted coolly by fellow Democrats, including incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. _____
When Carter was asked by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, why the plight of the Palestinians receives comparatively little discussion in the U.S. media, he said it was "a mystery."
Carter continued, "There is no discussion of these issues in this country that amounts to anything. There is obviously no discussion among the members of Congress. And even the American news media, wonderful ones like who you work for, The New York Times, The Washington Post and so forth, as well as the major networks and even cable -- rarely bring up any of the issues that are dramatized very accurately in this book."
Carter suggested that any congressional candidate who declared, "I want the Israelis to comply with international law," wouldn't have a chance to be elected.
"But it is a mystery to me why the news media don't at least give a sharp discussion of these issues. ... I go to Israel fairly often and when I go to Jerusalem, the debate is vociferous in the news media and among politicians. In Europe the same thing. In the U.S., no debate." ___ link: http://blog.washingtonpost.com/worldopinionroundup/200 6/12/jimmy_carter_palestinian_sympa.html

Comment: While I've long understood the disparity in support for Israelis and Palestinians in this ongoing dispute...Arabs are very racist towards Blacks but try and turn to us during their time of need. I'm all for Black empowerment organizations, but we need to leave other minorities out and grow stronger together because they "NEVER" return the favor when we are under attack. If anyting, they join in and take their swings at us too. Comment: What the f!ck ever to y'all. No matter what issue you take with his affiliations or nomenclature, the truth is the truth. The Presidency is unfortunately beholden to so many special interests. Do any of you even understand what he's talking about? Due to the religious power structure in America, both Jew and Christian, Barack had to say in his campaign that he would fully support Israel. WHAT IN THE F!CK DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH OUR ECONOMY???!!! How is that helping to reform America's image on the world stage??!!! THINK, PEOPLE!!!!

Comment: HHCassius, you shared a huge, immutable truth when you wrote "The Presidency is unfortunately beholden to so many special interests" . . . with regard to Israel, the US has been a fundamental, inflinching friend of that country since its founding in 1948 . . . . . with regard to the US economy, no domestic or foreign affairs issues, NONE, function in a void: all are intertwined . . . . . no one talks about the billions that the US gives seperately to Iraq and Israel annually along with incredibly expensive weaponry to Israel, so, IF we stopped giving those billions (trillions?) how might some part of the US economic plight be resolved? and who among the top 1% of the people who really run this country want economic resolution? . . . . . would Middle East conflicts be resolved if the US did not provide "bleeding edge" military technology to Israel? . . . . . last, bear in mind that the US economy is not as autonomous as it once was and it will never achieve that level again
