Comment: Good Morning and Happy Monday! January 12 * James Farmer, educator, administrator, activist, and founder of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), was born on this date in 1920.
He was raised in an environment that valued education and religious faith. James Farmer was an outstanding student. After skipping several grades in elementary school, he entered Wiley College in Marshall, Texas at the age of 14, graduated in 1938 and then graduated from Howard University's School of Religion in 1941. James Farmer founded CORE in 1942, which was at first called the Committee on Racial Equality. Some of CORE's first actions included restaurant sit-ins, which were so successful that they greatly influenced student activists nearly 20 years later.
In addition to sit-ins, stand-ins, and boycotts, CORE pioneered the technique called Freedom Rides. Always risking violent retaliation and often risking jail for their efforts, CORE members were specially trained to maintain a peaceful, nonviolent demeanor. Eventually, their work led to the desegregation of more than 100 southern bus terminals. In 1968, Farmer ran for U.S. Congress on the Liberal Party ticket.
In 1998, President Clinton awarded him the Congressional Medal of Freedom; James Farmer died a year later on July 9th 1999.

Who saw the Golden Globes last night? it was a trip! Kate Blanchett looked like she wanted to kick Shiddy in the azz when they were presenting the award.

I watch pro football with him if I don't have anything better to do. I wanna see slumdog millionaire too. I had never heard of it before last night. We were supposed to see Marley & Me this weekend but never got around to it. I didn't even open my eyes yesterday until a little after 2pm. I had waaaaaaaayyyyy too much fun Saturday night with my girls (me and "Pam" made up, she apologized and we had a LOT of margaritas to help wash the anger away).

GURL, I GOT TO SEND YOU THIS EMAIL YOU WOULD LOVE IT!! when EUR crashed friday evening, my mentor sent me this wonderful Email from youtube.com it featured THE DELLS. and there was this song called, "I'M ONLY A MAN" and hunny, it had these awsome pictures of our New Beloved President and it was a slideshow while the music was playing. gurl, when you see this, pull out your Kleenex cause you will cry. and also there is another viewing when they sing the Star Spangled Banner with a slideshow of pictures showing our history to now. gurl it's moving. i must send it to you.

Comment: Hey everybody!!! Happy to see EUR Free4All is back up and running. I think they got jacked last friday. Hope everyone had a good weekend. Juicebox...prayers up for you and the little ones. On the Golden Globes...I had heard that Slumdog was a good movie, and I intend to see it. I was truly happy for Mickey Roarke! I can't wait to see The Wrestler. I like that he gave props to his dogs. He said "I've been alone a lot, and all I had was my dogs, so I want to recognize them." I just thought, "wow." On the Heath Ledger win...I don't think that movie would have gotten much recognition had it not been for Ledger's death. But, while I think he was a good Joker, I don't think he should have been recognized in that manner. Yes, I agree with the one of you who posted that is the reason why Jamie's movie was pushed back to an April release date, so there would be no real competition in that category. Overall, I felt there were a lot of upsets in many of the wins. I think that Alec and Tina should have won, but I know folks were like WTF on Anna Paquin's win for True Blood (Round of applause for her.) OK...things are going on at my job. Y'all know this is supposed to be my last week at this job. I start a new one next Monday. But, I can't stand folks who are really plain and simply, HATERS, and do things to try and undermine your joy. So, to that I say, ain't nobody mad but the devil.

Comment: Chass>> I like that Bruce Springsteen won song of the year for The Wrestler, and then to find out that Axel Rose let them use Sweet Child O Mine without any strings was fantastic. I want to see Milk, but I'm getting a little tired of the gay thing right now because of the attack on Rick Warren being selected to do the Invocation. I originally wanted to see it, but I'm boycotting things gay right now, especially Rachel Maddow (who I happen to like btw). I love 30 Rock...That is just a funny show with a funny cast of people. I like shows where there is a lot going on with different characters all at once. Tracy Morgan is a fool...there is one episode where he and Alex Baldwin are in therapy, and Alex takes on the role of each of Tracy's daddies. It is hilarious! And Beyonce was nominated, but she didn't win...I thought it was for the song, but I'm not sure. I know Springsteen won for the song, but I can't remember if that was the category Beyonce was nominated for.

I love Beyonce (Lord knows I do), but why was her ponytail practically bleached blonde while everything above the ponytail was a darker brown? I didn't like that. Her dress was really pretty on her though. My man damn near broke his little cripple neck trying to see Eva Mendes - I hadn't laughed that hard all weekend!!

Comment: Actually Lovely, the movie was very good...in my opinion. I'm into movies like I'm into music so I can't break it down but I can say that it touched me on several levels. I thought I was going to see something preachy being that it was a TD Jakes movie. But it took me back to a time when I could feel somebody's anger without all the F-Bombs or having to have the movie director show us soft porn just to make the viewers believe that two characters made love. I'll endorse it. If you think it sucks then you can throw a cyber egg at me...and on another note, Taraji Henson is about to BLOW UP! Baby girl did the damn thing...she has unique eyes.

Comment: Yelley - I'm still sitting in admiration of you being able to handle a whole day. If me and my goddaughter aren't out shopping or having lunch, I don't know what else to do with her. Luckily she's getting older so I'm getting better with her. She just turned 11 in December and now we're able to at least have interesting conversations and she can see adult movies and actually pay attention (as opposed to talking to me the whole time like she used to).

Comment: We tried to keep it fairly PG since the kids were with us but we did get us a lil' taste in on the top deck around 2 or 3 in the morning. **praying there is no tape** My kids had a ball especially my manish azz son. I recommend two-way radios for anyone traveling with tweens. We lost him 15 minutes after boarding the ship. Before the trip was over I bet 90% of the people knew him by name. My daughter and I kicked it in Cozumel after we ditched the guys. We ended up in a club, drunk and my daughter won some 'shake your azz contest'. That was too funny. You could tell she wanted to cut loose but wouldn't because of me. I had to egg her azz on so the 25/20's wouldn't win. I have a gazillion pics and I tried to scale them down. If anyone wants to see........you know the drill......

Comment: Giants star Amani Toomer is splitting with his wife, claiming she not only reneged on a pact to have kids with the veteran wide receiver but went so far as to abort four pregnancies, according to bombshell court papers.
Toomer has sued to annul his marriage to Dr. Yola Dabrowski, who won't get a dime if a judge upholds Toomer's argument that she committed "fraud" when they wed. She is seeking a divorce.
The divorce trial is set to begin tomorrow in Hudson County, N.J., Family Court.
Toomer, 32, alleges his wife refused to have the "big family" they had discussed before getting hitched in a Las Vegas civil ceremony in October 2002.
"This false promise was never delivered," he charges in documents filed in court.
Instead, Dabrowski "had up to four" abortions "against Toomer's wishes [and] without his consent," the Giant claims.
The footballer also alleges that Dabrowski, 34, "refused to change her last name to Toomer," and won't cook, clean or take medication to treat her depression.
And, she allegedly "disrespected [his] integrity and manhood."
Dabrowski, a chiropractor and law-school student, vehemently denied the claims.
In her filings for divorce, she alleges "extreme cruelty," accusing Toomer of being "relentlessly demanding . . . insecure and paranoid."
The grid great insisted Dabrowski "cater to his every whim and need," she claims.
And when she didn't want to have sex, Toomer acted "irrationally and outrageously" - once urinating on her clothes, and another time tossing her BlackBerry into the Hudson River.
Dabrowski says she became "fearful" of having kids with Toomer, losing "all hope" that he would be "emotionally or physically available" to a child.
She also charges that Toomer, who helped pay for her education, was an overbearing hubby who later insisted she "back-burner" her goals so she could manage his finances, travel with him and entertain his family.
Despite months of mediation, Toomer and Dabrowski have not been able to reach a settlement.
Dabrowski, who has been granted $11,000 a month in temporary support, wants permanent alimony and half the couple's marital %*$ets.
Toomer, who missed much of last season with a knee injury, is in the middle of a $20 million, five-year contract with the Giants.
Saying "all he ever wanted was for [Yola] to love and respect him," Toomer's filings also include claims that his wife:

* Forced her to put her chiropractic career on hold so she could spend two years decorating their $2 million West New York waterfront condo, "demanding" it "reflect a style and d?cor consistent with his position as an NFL athlete." After that was done, he told her they were moving - and made her do the same thing with the new place.

All he could think was "WTF?"
The California man's 13-year-old daughter, Reina, racked up an astonishing 14,528 text messages in one month. The online AT&T statement ran 440 pages.
"First, I laughed. I thought, 'That's insane, that's impossible,' " the 45-year-old dad said. "And I immediately whipped out the calculator to see if it was humanly possible."
He found it was - barely.
It works out to 484 text messages a day, or one every two minutes of every waking hour.
"Then I thought maybe AT&T made some mistake on the bill," said Hardesty, of Silverado Canyon.
The reporter for the Orange County Register grilled his daughter on her texting habit - by text message, of course.
"Who are you texting, anyway? Your entire school?" he asked.
"Well, a lot of my friends have unlimited texting. I just text them pretty much all the time," she explained.
She messages a core of "four obsessive texters" - all girls between the ages of 12 and 13 - on her LG phone.
Reina had a karaoke birthday party, and while other people were singing, she was texting her best friend sitting right next to her.
She even texted her friends to brag about the high number of text messages she had logged when her parents got the statement.
Her texting soared last month because "it was winter break and I was bored," Reina told her parents.
Luckily, Hardesty has a phone plan that allows unlimited texting for $30 a month. Otherwise, he estimates, he would have owed AT&T $2,905.60 at a rate of 20 cents per message.

Many also had their feet bound in an excruciating process aimed at making them look more dainty and marriageable.

Goldman represents the Florida-based lender that was trying to get the star of Broadway's 'The Color Purple' repay money it loaned her in 2006 for tax payments on the property.
If the agreement between the two parties had not been reached, the 24-year-old singer's home would have been sold at auction on Monday, Jan. 12 by the Mecklenberg County Sheriff's Office.

Defense attorneys for 17-year-old Daniel Petric didn't contest that Petric shot his parents in October 2007, but insisted that the boy's youth and video game addiction made him less responsible.
But Lorain County Common Pleas Judge James Burge said Monday that is not a defense and there was evidence of prior calculation and planning.
Petric faces maximum possible penalty of life in prison without parole.
Prosecutors said Petric planned to kill his parents because he was angry that his father would not allow him to play the video game "Halo 3," in which players shoot alien monsters that have taken over the Earth.

The .45-caliber handgun slipped down the first-grader's pant leg Wednesday while a clerk at the Victorville school was helping him put on a belt.
San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Karen Hunt says the boy took the gun from his father's vehicle. Investigators in the town about 80 miles west of Los Angeles say the weapon was stolen during a November robbery.
The boy's father Michael Lewis has now been arrested and booked for investigation of receiving stolen property and possession of a firearm by a felon.
The 6-year-old boy, who will be expelled under the school's zero-tolerance weapons policy, has been released to the custody of his mother.

The lawyer for Dawnell Batista, 44, asked Judge Jeffrey Grob to place a gag order on the case after her estranged husband, Richard Batista, held a news conference last week accusing her of adultery.
Though Grob denied the motion, lawyer Douglas Rothkopf also argued that his client was the victim of a "hyper-suspicious" husband and that no adultery had ever taken place.
"He would rummage through her underwear drawer sniffing her underwear [to see if she had cheated]," Rothkopf said inside a Mineola courtroom.
Batista, a vascular surgeon at Nassau University Medical Center, said that his wife left him after having an affair with her physical therapist.
The Batista's were both in court this morning, but never made eye contact with one other throughout the proceeding.
"This is a man who put his life on the line and his wife has treated him like a piece of dirt," said Richard Batista's lawyer, Dominic Barbara, adding that his client has the right to speak publicly about what he had been through.
The couple is due back in divorce court tomorrow.
